Went to the fox for Sunday lunch . Arrived early to find our table was ready . Drinks and food ordering was so efficient. We both had roast beef . Everything was excellent as if it had been the first dinner of the day . Plenty of everything, even gravy . Was the best roast dinner Ive had out in a very long time . Was a wonderful experience and a total Sunday treat. Will definitely be returning.

First time visit with our daughter Emma, first the food was excellent, fresh, nicely cooked, piping hot and delivered in a timely fashion, despite the Fox being extremely busy the service provided by the front of house staff was outstanding, Carol especially provided excellent customer service. We strongly recommend you visit the Fox on the Green the next time you pay a visit to the picturesque village of Finchingfield, we will be back.

Highly recommended by friends. But lousy and surly service. The tall lady with blonde hair (manager?) was particularly hostile. Not at all helpful when my daughter explained she had allergies. I was happy to walk out, but my family persuaded me to stay. We’ll not be back.

Went to The Fox on the Green for a business meeting with clients. Without doubt the best pub located in the village of Finchingfield - views directly over the duck pond and period properties. Wow factor!!! Booked a table for 4 last minute.., the staff at The Fox could not be more helpful and polite. It was a really busy day, but service was first class. Food excellent, the head chef really knows her stuff, food tasted great, we all had three courses and no complaints. Good range of drinks and beers available with a great atmosphere. This is a traditional pub, oak beams/brick fireplace , nicely decorated. The pub is dog friendly, the owners could not be more helpful, I will definitely be returning with clients again. They were very impressed. Highly recommend this pub for food, atmosphere and beautiful location.

The Fox on the Green is in a lovely setting. Unfortunately the restaurant was very busy. I ordered the Roast which I was looking forward to. The roast potatoes were hard and the veggies were not cooked. Not enough Gravy. And to be honest the food wasn’t that hot either. Then they put on service Charge which is a bit naughty. I won’t be recommending it to my family and friends.

Lovely location opposite village green with pond. That is all I am afraid.. We ordered fish and chips and a wrap. It took one hour to arrive. The fish was overcooked, the chips were burnt but cold (microwaved and reheated?) The wrap had a warm content but i could not distinguish what was in there - very oily. I was told it was because there were 40 covers and we didn't book - never had to book lunch at a pub before. Wont be parting with another £41 for a wrap, fish and chips!

A Sunday lunch in a rural village pub. You would think it would be peaceful. Not Finchingfield. Don’t visit unless you are a middle aged motorcyclist with no care for tranquility or residents. On our day at the Fox. Good: Location, pretty building, service, carrot, parsnip, cauliflower cheese, wine, Yorkshire pudding, cracking, sauce. Bad: Unrendered pork fat, undercooked roast potatoes, raw broccoli, loud music in the restaurant.

Excellent food, great friendly service and a really cosy atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Went for lunch here, for Mothering Sunday with family. We had a beautiful meal. All four of us. All had starters, 3x prawn cocktail and 1 Hock Terrine. We who had the Prawns did say we would have liked a little brown bread to mop up the sauce but what we had was lovely. We all had Roasts, 2x Turkey and 2x Beef. Cooked to perfection. A good plateful. I have read some of the reviews and can't agree on the staff being rude. They were very nice. We have been before, for fish and chips which were very nice, also. It is not the cheapest of places to eat, but it is a very lovely place, a lovely setting, and the food is really good. I am sure their overheads are huge and we all have to make a living! We will be back when we next need a fix of Finchingfeild.

Been here a few times, the last time being last summer. We haven't been back since then as it wasn't great, bland boring food in a gorgeous setting?? We decided to give it another go as we were re visiting Finchingfield, I'm so glad we did. Steak and ale pie. Pie veg was actually seasoned this time not just wet soggy veg on the plate like last time, everything was steaming hot and everything tasted delicious! Great pint to wash it down too. Different chef or new kitchen team???We don't know but something felt different and we're so glad to be able to come back to this pub again and enjoy a great meal and a pint in glorious Finchingfield, thank you fox!

Over charging with additional surprise supplements / services charges, average food quality / average service quality. You are charged way too much for the quality of food and have no choice but to pay the service charges and surprise supplements. Restaurant seems very focussed on charging as much as possible (too much) rather than focussing on food quality and customer service.

We visited after researching nice country pubs and thought that for a special occasion it would be a nice place to celebrate. Our visit was for my mother in laws 70th birthday. The food was really nice, home cooked, hot and fresh. The service however, really did let this place down. It wasn’t busy, but took a while to get our order, the waitresses were not at all friendly and didn’t engage in conversation or even smile. There was no atmosphere. We asked one of the waitresses if we could light some candles on the cake, she said she would check and come back. She didn’t bother coming back at all. They also had a board with the desserts but no prices and then added 10% to the bill for a service charge, which they obviously knew they were getting anyway so didn’t make any effort to be friendly or even smile. We didn’t feel welcome and it really did spoil her birthday celebrations. Finchingfield is a beautiful village and we would have come back in summer but unfortunately not to this place unless they sort out the service.

We met friends here at lunchtime as it is a convenient half way meeting place and we've done this before and been reasonably pleased. But not so today ! The pan fried salmon we ordered came looking like something you'd find at the bottom of a refuse bin. It was a green/grey colour and smelt revolting. We did try it but is was disgusting and inedible. The waitress apologised and even admitted that she thought it smelt odd ! So why did this even reach our table ? Surely the chef could have seen and smelt something was dreadfully wrong with the food. There were no apologies from the chef or management. It's a shame but the place seems to be going downhill fast and in spite of Finchingfield being an idyllic location we won't be returning.

We visited the lovely town of finchingfield and decided to go for lunch at the fox. We was visited by a very frosty reception from the Ice witch herself! Against our better judgement we decided to stay and have food. We both had a ribeye steak and requested these to be cooked medium rare. Oh my goodness. You could still see the heart beating it was that rare. At least it had more of a heart than the horrible manager! Nevertheless, I still ate it as I am a ravenous man. I only write reviews when the experience is exceptional. We visited last night and will not return. Poor service and poor food is not in itself a reason to avoid somewhere… everyone and everywhere has a bad day or a bad service and most people will make the most of it and oversee something if the food isn’t quite right or if they need to wait a little longer for their food etc. However, the attitude of the staff and in particular the lady who I believe to be the manager was the most unfriendly and rude I’ve experienced in any restaurant. Before writing this review I checked previous reviews to see if this was a one off - but it appears that others have had a similar experience regarding attitude and reading the owners replies it would seem that this prickly and ungracious attitude stems from the top, from owner to manageress and is systemic in this establishment Ive no doubt my honest feedback will be dismissed in the same obnoxious way as other similar reviews have been

It was very busy but despite that the staff obviously working hard were not stressed and very friendly. He stood and chatted to us for about 10 mins, was very warm, extremely friendly and welcomed us to the village. The chicken burger tasted fantastic. We have stopped for a pint and a snack at the Fox a couple of times now - a perfect end to a summer walk to Bardfield and back. While the snacks (starter calamari) were quite tasty the garnish has twice been lacklustre. On the...

Lovely pub in a great location but let down by the inflated drink prices. £9.95 for a large glass of Sauvignon blanc is ridiculous, as are the prices of the draught beers. I realise it’s a tourist hot spot and costs in the hospitality industry...

The village and the pub are both picturesque and characterful - but the main thing that impressed me, was the cheerful nature of the staff, who were able to deal efficiently with a lunch service that was extremely busy. The food was very tasty and...

Lovely location at the bottom of the hill opposite the green in Finchingfield. Busy restaurant so luckily we had pre booked. Food was great, baked camembert, soup, hunters chicken, chilli beef brisket and lemon posset were all delicious. We will definitely be back for more.

Last minute thing - booked the 'Fox on the Green' in Finchingfield for just one of those run-of-the-mill 'pub-grub' eat outs - who wants to cook on a Friday right? However, we got served some really great 'home cooked' food. OK so I think the...

I will start this long and concise review by stating I've been in the hospitality industry. We came here pre booked as a table of 9, including 3 children at 3 pm on a Sunday. This was for my mother in laws birthday. Now the reason I say this time is because by now the kitchen had run out of several key components of their roasts and other main menu items such as beef and mashed potatoes. This considering the place was completely dead at this time. Why is the kind of chef that can not ensure they have ordered in and prepared these items that are vital components should wander down to McDonald's where someone with more experience will handle that for you whilst you're flipping burgers. Most of the remaining menu items are just thrust into the microwave or deep-fried without soul or care. Our starters took a full 50 minutes to be served, we had enquired earlier why it was taking so long as the kitchen had no other orders to prepare and was informed they were just being plated up. Still took another 20 minutes to produce these 5 starters! I'd chosen the salt and pepper squid that contained neither salt nor pepper! Bland would be an understatement. The rest of the meal was no less a long awaiting for poorly presented mess. It's clear the chef has no passion for food, and I'm certain wears a plaster on his microwave finger from overuse. The food was bland, overcooked, and under prepaired. The lamb Shank looked as if half the meat was missing, the hunters chicken was overcooked and dried out, and the beef bourguignon had no red wine, making it a tiny piece of beef stew. The list of disappointed meals went on. I can honestly say this is the single most disappointing meal I've had the misfortune of being served (eventually). I will not return and would recommend others avoid.

Covid safe and clean. Was a pleasant day so could sit on their outside patio area. Had a bacon sandwich, friends had cake. Bread was dry and I wish places would use proper butter, not some spread. Even with bacon you could still taste it... Service very friendly and pleasant.
