Great little pub and food is amazingly tasty! So many delicious sounding “Specials” hard to choose one tbh. Had the Best Club Sandwich, lovely friendly staff and pretty good prices too! Deffo will be going again soon! Love this place ❤️

We have been coming to the Fox for a good few years, it has always been our go to for birthday treats. Tonight was a huge disappointment. My husband and I ordered sirloin steak and the quality was awful. It was tasteless, tough and overcooked. I did complain but was just told they would take 50% off one of the steaks. I didn’t eat mine. I think what was even more disappointing was that they didn’t seem to care. The waitress was lovely but if there was a manager on site then they weren’t interested in speaking with us. This is the first negative restaurant review I have ever written. Such a shame. We won’t be returning, and I’m guessing The Fox won’t be interested in responding.

Editing my previous 5 star review. So sad to see this place go down hill as it used to be our favourite restaurant and used to come every Sunday. Visited 7 months ago and was poor service and today it was service and the food was awful! A different chef for sure which is sad to see as he was outstanding. Our servers did not offer tap water, sauces, offer any further drinks, more gravy or the bill, we had to ask for every single thing. The waitress with the black top and dark hair had a terrible attitude when we asked for more gravy. The roast dinner was average at very best and for the price point it should be as it used to be. Your restaurant will continue to be full due to its location but sadly we won’t be returning due to the poor standard of food and service is shocking, would strongly suggest basic customer service training and hiring your original lovely friendly team back.

Called in for Sunday dinner. Service was average at best and even a little smile would have helped. Beef was pretty tasteless and the lamb was apparently too. If you are going to charge £23 for a Sunday dinner at least put more than half a carrot and a quarter of a parsnip on the plate plus a burnt flat Yorkshire didn’t help either. Poor really for what could be a good place to eat.

Kindly fitted us in last minute for Sunday lunch, beef was cooked to perfection, lovely home made Yorkshire pudding, plenty of vegetables, couldn’t fault the food or service. 👍

Went for a funeral wake. The buffet was delicious with a good selection of food on offer. The staff were all friendly, chatty and efficient.

Visited from Cardiff as Booked for a birthday meal. Decor is not up to much and it felt grubby.no atmosphere. Bar menu very limited on the black board behind the bar and the Al a Carte menu was given to us on a peice of paper was again very limited. Staff more interested in serving locals even though we had stood at bar for a good 5 mins before anyone else. Result being party of 4 walked out with no food no drink and we went else where.

The Dirty Fox burger was legitimately the tastiest burger I’ve ever eaten. Halloumi fries were thick and crispy, not soggy. Great atmosphere. Great service. Top quality food at a good price. Highly recommended.

So Clean Neat and smartly decorated.Food first class .Staff were top draw and the Young chef a credit to her profession.Excellentand will be going back.😋

Popped in today after a short notice booking, what can I say the food the service and the staff was brilliant amazing out this world good , thank you for a fantastic evening.

The food is lovely and the pub is great but I was a little disappointed that the £28 sirloin only came with some chips and no salad or veg. It’s not cheap and some salad or other veg wouldn’t have gone amiss. Have to say the Sunday lunch is excellent. I would recommend the pub to anyone.

We’ve eaten here on a Sunday four times and the food is generally very good but the service always seems to let the place down. It all feels a tad disorganised so there can be long waits between courses and it takes ages to get a drink. For the price, I think the service really does need to improve.

Staff so welcoming and friendly. Food was amazing, had steak and fries, stunning. Took my dog as its dog friendly. Staff loved him. Provided him with refreshments too. Was my first time but definitely not my last.

Was very disappointed with the food ordered asparagus parma ham starter they forgot the parma ham food was average at best service friendly but slow however left cash payment on table as service was so slow HOW EMBARRASSING WAITRESS RUN ACROSS THE ROAD INTO CAR PARK SAID YOU HAVENT PAID THE BILL MY PARNTNER WALKED ACROSS SHOWED HER THE CASH LEFT ON TABLE WOULDNT YOU CHECK BEFORE CHASING AND ACCUSING DISSAPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST wine was warm needed more ice added to wine bucket not ideal WONT BE BACK

A very welcoming and cosy interior reflects traditional basis with modern flair. An interesting and adventurous gastro pub menu offers good value for lunch. Thai fishcakes with coconut and chilli on a stir fried vegetables appetisers followed by delicate crab pancakes and a duck confit were very nice.

Nearly didn't lunch there today because of poor reviews, but so glad we did! Staff friendly & efficient without being over bearing. Food was very good.I had the smoked haddock & partner had the chicken burger. Can't help but feel some reviews are having a dig at the famous proprietor rather than his comfortable establishment?

It’s a shame, this place doesn’t live up to the renovation. It’s overstaffed with no processes leading to constantly receiving too fast or over attentive service. Sides didn’t arrives with main course and when it did it wasn’t cooked. Sunday roast was nice but not exceptional. It needs a good manager to put in processes which would improve the experience. Only atmosphere is the staff constantly in huddles trying to figure out what’s going on, not relaxing.

I haven't been to the Fox for many years and was very impressed by the new renovations. The service and atmosphere were also very good. Unfortunately we were too late to order something to eat but I'm sure there will be a next time. Big thumbs up 👍

Enjoyed drinks on the terrace at the end of a long walk. Good range of ales. Smart decor but very odd choice of minimal lighting for the toilets: all the walls and floors are black and there were spotlights only over the urinals and sink.

The food was delicious my only criticism is that I love a cheeseboard after a meal and, despite it being on the menu and it being the first day of a new menu, they didn't have it. It's not that they'd sold out, there just wasn't any..... First day of a new menu? Very disappointed indeed. That said, what I did have was top notch, delivered perfectly cooked and really well seasoned. I'll definitely be back.

Came to the fox on the way to the airport to drop of my father. Friendly staff and a lovely menu choice. I had mussels to start and my father and wife had the scallops. Very nice indeed. Mains were sea bass which came with a soft back crab.. Unusual. I had the ham hock and my wife had the duck. Everything was very nice. We also had a side of rosemary and cheese chips. Stunning. We will be back. ❤️

Feeling truly ripped off on Valentines day. Plate of fish with tempura veg turned out to be plate of tempura everything. Fry overload. No mussels, chilli jam or red pepper sauce as described. Limited menu choices, poor service. £80 for one sharing main course and two drinks. We had the chips discounted but was not nearly enough to remedy the poor exper. There's too much competition so won't be going back anytime soon

Sunday Lunch arrived at The Fox at 13:30, waited 1hr to order food. Starters wasn’t an issue but main course didn’t arrive until 15:50, we asked several times why the wait as other tables were arriving and eating and were told only 2 chefs. But really not good enough, when food did arrive I had lamb and the portion was tiny ( but I did mention this and they display more) and also my wife had the sea bass which had 1 very small fillet. We have been here several times before but won’t be rushing back.

Beautiful pub in a gorgeous location. Portion sizes were bigger than expected, the quality was exactly as expected - superb! A hidden gem, would highly recommend.

Invited to a 50th birthday party. Room upstairs was just right for the occasion. It's well maintained and clean. Buffet was good, needed more accompaniments for the cold meats, apple sauce/horseradish/mustard. Sausage rolls excellent, frittata was lacking abit and watery. On the whole I will be back to try the restaurant food. Please get Doom bar ale.

We went for Sunday roast, the staters were amazing! Venison shoulder and bruschetta. The mains took more than hour and a half to come, a table that ordered after ours was served first. When the order arrived they didn't bring the sides, we had to ask for more, we were 3 and they brought sides for 2 people only. They didn't offer more water or drinks, didn't picked up the dishes when we finished, or offered the dessert menu. I understand that the place can get busy but water/drinks and picking up the dishes are basics. They were focused on cleaning the other tables to get them ready for the next service, I get that it's all cool. But we felt forgotten, it was quite unpleasant. The food was very good and the place is nice, the problem was everything else. I wouldn't drive 40min and spend £30pp again.

Fantastic food, excellent service, well recommend

I often stop for lunch when passing...Gavin & Katie have got it right. Excellent chef who really knows how to turn classic fusion cooking into something special without it costing the earth. The Guinness is good, the wine list comprehensive with something for everyone.

Delicious food. Service lets it down. Staff are nice and polite but further training needed as they are busy and you quickly get forgotten. Starters came quickly and mains but had to wait over an hour for them to take away the dishes despite being asked 4 times if we can order desert and needed the plates taken away. This place could be phenomenal if they just had a bit more care for their customers. It’s unpleasant waiting around for an hour + for a simple task of taking away dishes

Great food and the service was excellent.

Amazing Food, lovely staff, handsome place with a spot on atmosphere. Really enjoyed our Roast Dinners and delicious puddings. Thankfully our dog was welcome too.

If you're in the area you should cancel your plans and try to go here. It's brilliant. The food is superb, the service is very attentive but not overbearing. The menu isn't huge but that's a good thing because it means what they do serve is freshly made and done well. The lamb fricassee was one of the best things I've eaten this year. The children's menu is good too with decent portions. I wish there was a place like this near where we live. Go try for yourself.

First time time dining at the Fox this year and it didn’t disappoint. We had 3 courses including Lamb Fricassee and orange & almond cake for desert. Special thank you to waitresses and chef for great service & helped advise us on wine pairings etc

I stayed here in the hideaway and I also ate here. The hideaway is above a pub, so if anyone decided to stop here there will be noise that you can hear in the accommodation itself but it stops around 11pm. I decided to eat here but didn't realise I would need to book a table, that was my own fault I should have looked into it first. However, I was still given somewhere to sit to eat. I had an appetizer, main, and desert with glass of red. It came to just over £45 just for one person. The appetizer was pork and apple. It was juicy with abit of a crunchy outer layer of filo pastry and had abit of a kick too leaving a lovely warming sensation in my mouth, it tasted like a nice balance of sweet and spice. The main I had the sir loin steak. The steak melted in your mouth as you bit into it, I had mine medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The chips where light and fluffy and the veg cook perfectly. I did leave my mushrooms but I'm not a huge fan of them anyway. For desert I have the orange and almond cake with coconut sorbet which I asked for one of the waiting staff to help me pick. She was definitely right, it was beautiful! The sorbet was refreshing and the orange and almond cake went great together. The cake was soft, light, bouncy and even sticky. The serving staff were super lovely and honestly everyone there was just so friendly and welcoming, even going out of their way to help you. You can tell alot of love is put into the food as well the place itself. Personally, I would have happily paid more for my meal, the prices that they are at the moment, you really are getting a bargain. In the hideaway where I stayed the room was bigger then I anticipated from the pictures. The bath tub was amazing to lay in after walking/hiking for a few hours and there was even little bits to make you feel welcome like tea, coffee, crisps, olives, water. It was a really pleasant stay and I can't wait to come back to stay here. I have no issue with sleeping with sound around me, I know not everyone is like this and some people may struggle with the noise. The only slightly negative thing was while I was in the bath, some drunk guys (not Welsh by their accent) tried the door to where I was staying. As soon as they tried the door (it was locked) another person in a Welsh accent scolded them for it. I won't lie, it gave me a lil chuckle but I know that this incident has nothing to do with the place itself and just some of the people you might encounter with it being above a pub. The door does lock automatically though so there was no chance of them gaining access. Overall this place is amazing and I'm suprised it isn't more popular.

Not eaten at the fox yet, but intend to. Really nice and relaxing bar area serving a good range of beers. 2 for 1 cocktails on Thursdays.

If you want a beer, better wait for all the cocktails to be done first. Staff are great, they do their best, but cocktails delay everyone. It would be higher if not for that. 20 mins at one point to get 1 beer. Staff were awesome despite that. So mixed review. Great atmosphere as well. Good pub. Also, don’t buy a Guinness unless your bank is aware.

Had a lovely lunch with the family here - food was delicious and I loved that the children's menu wasn't just sausage and chips but were smaller versions of the adult meals. Would recommend.

Just spent a wonderful few hours at The Fox . Food was delicious, enjoyed by everyone of us. Compliments to the Chef. The staff looked after us brilliantly. Can't wait to go again.

This month's 12/12 pre birthday meal was a visit to #thefox @thefox down in St brides Major, owned by Mr Gavin Henson... we had the absolute pleasure of being accompanied by Jackie, Ang, Stuart and Steve for this one and what a great night out it was, thank you x.... Ok back to business.... the food as you can see from the pictures looks fantastic and tasted even better, very tasty, did not have to wait very long for each course, value for money oh god yeah, in all fairness it was excellent... Service was great too, in fact the whole experience was very very good... I would highly recommend a visit, it's clean, tidy and just a really pleasant experience... do yourselves a favour pop in for a cold one and some proper tasty food....

Place was lovely and cosy, staff very welcoming. The food was nice, sorry to say we didn't think it was amazing. The service was poor in terms of timing, the staff were all lovely but we waited too long for all courses. The meals all came at different times, some of the party had to wait a lot longer than others and we had to ask for cutlery etc. We felt it was a lovely place with lovely potential but wasn't quite the experience we had hoped. Good luck on attempting to improve the experience

1 st time here since Covid 19/20/21 and Beyond, very impressed, pleasant Staff, Good Ales at a reasonable price (at present) can't comment on the Food,didn't have any,will definitely return, next time with female company, a place to impress the ladies for a nice Evening meal?

Just went for a drink but the inside looked nice and the food looked delicious...oldy, worldly looking from the outside.

Ten out of ten in a lovely location if your on the way to our fantastic coast line you can’t miss the pub it has been done up to a fantastic standard i hope the pub is going to stand out as serving the best food in the area

I felt compelled to write this review as the service staff food and drink is simply outstanding. The staff are absolutely lovely very accommodating and fun while the food is just stunning I had the Sunday lunch and it’s right up there with the best I’ve had. We chose to have Sunday Lunch with friends (we had pre-booked a table for 9) at this pub after a walk, based on positive reviews on this site. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The pub had two other tables of a similar size to us but was otherwise quiet. Despite this, the service was slow and very poor, both for our own table but also for the others in the restaurant. We were not able to place an order for about 30 minutes, and food was served to us (with lengthy gaps between different people receiving their meals) approximately an hour and 20 minutes after we arrived. We had ended up having to buy crisps prior to the meal arriving. The food itself was also, unfortunately, disappointing: the vegetables were extremely overcooked and even the waitress remarked how small the pieces of meat served were. I do want to acknowledge that we were grateful that a discount was given on our bill to acknowledge the delay. However, given our experience, which really did spoil a rare afternoon where our group of friends were all able to gather, I wanted to leave a review to balance the others on this site, for others who may be considering a trip like ours. Such a shame as the pub could be really nice with a bit of TLC, and could have been a great setting for a gathering. I do hope this was an off-day.

Had fish & chips, which is one of the nicest I have ever had. My wife had a homemade pizza' (which wasn't even on the menu) and was delightful. Super friendly staff, excellent service, nothing too much trouble. Would highly reccomend a visit to this pub, a little gem.excellent value for money, will definately return (probably for curry night this Wednesday!)

After a long walk across the common on a Bank Holiday weekend, we stopped at the Fox & Hounds for 'refreshments'. This is a great local pub with a warm welcome and generous measures. If you have dogs, they are welcome too!

We walked from Ogmore today (Friday) to have lunch..we had checked the website..it said the pub was open on Friday all day..it was shut when we called in at 2pm. Very disappointing. We had to get crisps from the village shop. Please update your website!

Booked for Sunday Lunch having never been before. The welcome was friendly from the owner/manager but the lad behind the bar looked unkempt and half asleep, not giving the best impression, The atmosphere in the restaurant part is pleasant with large and small pine tables and the food was very enjoyable. Will come again

Hicimos un mal apagar el domingo pasado después de buscar la ciudad de Porthcawl para un pub decente para comer! No hace falta decir que no había ninguna. Encontramos esta pequeña joya de un pub en la carretera de la costa de vuelta a Cardiff, y como estábamos hambrientos, decidimos parar. Estamos contentos de haberlo hecho! Nos recibió el más simpático de casos que tomó nuestra orden de comida, bebidas y llevamos nuestro fuera para nosotros. Nuestro almuerzo de domingo seguido en unos 5 minutos y era absolutamente precioso. Caliente, fresco y sabroso. Salsa real y extra para ir con las verduras. Preguntamos sobre postres y me dijeron que tenía una tarta casera. Dios mío, mi esposo y ambos estamos de acuerdo en que era el mejor que he probado. Fresas frescas y una taza de crema o helado para ir con ella. El pub es posiblemente el lugar más bonito en el que he estado y el mejor £36.00 que hemos pasado. (2 comidas, 2 postres, 3 pintas y 2 coca-cola). Dejamos aquí adecuadamente y tenía un resto de peluche encantador de una casa en coche! Una verdadera joya de un pub.

I popped in after a 3.5 mile walk at around 12.15pm for something to eat and were told they were closed until 4pm......poor show.

Me and my girlfriend popped into this pub on the way back from a very wet and windy walk along the Glamorgan hertitage coastal path. We was immediately welcomed by a friendly barmaid in a completely empty pub. The setting inside this pub is fantastic very warm, welcoming and clean. There is a good selection of ales, lager and ciders. We literally only popped in for a quick one but after being so warmly greeted and seeing the pool table, darts board and digital jukebox its safe to say we were set for an impromptu knees up. We had an absolute blast here even if it was just the two of us and the barmaid (who was probably one of the nicest people we met on our short trip away) I believe they only serve food on Monday's but its well worth going in for a drink infront of the large open fire. if were ever back that way again we will definitely be popping in for a "swift one."

I had one of the House Specials which was Meatballs and Chips. They were excellent.The locals are very friendly and staff were great as well.I will stop by on my next visit.
