The Forresters in County Durham

Went here for dinner. My husband had the French onion soup (which he had had on a previous occasion) and said it was not as good as the first time he had ordered it. I just had a steak & onion baguette which was pretty average. Service was okay but no-one checked to see if everything was okay with our meals.

Such, amazing food. Every time we come we are not disappointed. All. 4.of us had an amazing meal. Even the puddings are gorgeous and beautifully presented. 5 stars for us every time!

What a little gem of a restaurant. We had lunch for my husband’s birthday and were blown away by the quality of the food. I had the asparagus soup to start - and I have to say it is probably the best soup I have ever eaten- so full of flavour. My husband had the Gruyère soufflé which was also superb. The mains were fantastic too - the sauce on the chicken fricassee was out of this world. We couldn’t manage dessert as we were so full but we’ll definitely be back!

We popped in on the off chance that they had a free table and were very lucky as it was Mother's Day. The staff and owner (French) were great. The food was exquisite, we wanted something vegan, and there wasn't much choice, but that doesn't matter when what they do have is so good!

Popped in after our walk for lunch. It was our very first visit considering we only live 20mins away. Greeted by a very polite chatty young man who showed us to the dining room. We were attended to very promptly and served our drinks. The coffee was good. The food arrived very promptly too I had the mushroom and pancetta risotto it was really good so tasty and a good portion with nice crusty bread. My partner had the chicken goujons and triple cooked chips and salad and really enjoyed it. Sadly we had no room for pudding . We will definitely be coming back to sample more.

Authentic and delicious French cuisine. We were pleasantly suprised to find a super French restaurant in a small market town! They offer an extensive menu and every dish we ordered was superb. Beautifully presented, piping hot, generous portions and fresh ingredients. Everything is home made from cheese souffles, rich french onion soup, beef bourgignon oooh la la! We will be back!

The hotel is clean and it is dog friendly. Upon arrival we were given our keys to the room. They asked if we needed a dog bed which was kind, however we had bought our own. The location is great. Central to the main elements of the town and breakfast spots. We also completed the pennine way loop to high force which started and ended at the hotel. Our room was clean, especially given that it’s a dog friendly hotel and clearly popular with walkers and our mud! Tea and coffee is provided and the showers were nice and warm after a long day. The only negative is that the bar is open late and we could hear the goings on at the bar - not the hotels fault - but this included an argument between some people and them stomping back to their hotel room at 3am. It was a little annoying as it broke up our sleep! Take some earplugs with you just in case! Food. We ate at the restaurant and the food was really nice. Being French cuisine it is quite rich and filling. Overall a nice stay; but I’ll take ear plugs next time :)

The food on the whole was of good quality, I had the pork which for me had way too much apple sauce which overpowered the other lovely flavours, the dauphinois potatoes very good as was the side dish of mixed veg. My wife had the chicken fricassee which was very good. Couldn’t fault the quantities which were very generous, service was ok as is atmosphere.

What a great place this is with french style food. Very tasty freshly prepared food, we were a party of 7 and between us had belly pork, beef bourgignon, and buckwheat pancakes. Food came promptly with a lobely side salad, homemade coleslaw and lovely chips. I will be back

A gem of a restaurant. I had the pork belly with dauphinoise potatoes and apple fritters, which was a nice mix of flavours and textures. My companions had the beef bourginon, which had a fantastically rich, dark sauce. We finished with the creme brulee, which looked and tasted amazing.

Second time here in a week , we enjoyed the food so much, absolutely gorgeous presentation and tasted amazing. Will definitely be back regularly, can't rate highly enough

We stayed here as as a stop over to go on up to Edinburgh. We arrived on carnival day. The most amazing place. Rocking. Staff dressed up and servise 5* great fun. Wish we had a pub like this in Hereford!!

A French restaurant, well they do have French posters and knickknacks around but how many French restaurants label cognac brandy! Staff were friendly but our meal itself was poor. The boeuf bourguignon was not like any we have had previously, the beef was all in one piece and the vegetables we guess were steamed and carrots so hard a knife and fork could not get into them and the leeks were awful. We did tell the waiter but no comment made. The pina calada crème brûlée came with a spun sugar dome over and a piece of pineapple on the brûlée with a sloppy custard under. The French would never make a mess of a dish like this. An expensive evening meal badly cooked.

We have visited many times but just for a drink. Today we had lunch. We have to say the young man who served us was very attentive and pleasant. Excellent food and wonderful atmosphere. Unable to fault the staff or food. Generous portions brilliantly cooked and prepared . Has to be the goto place for lunch in this village.

After a lovely walk to High Force waterfall we stopped at the Forrester Inn for lunch. The better approach if on foot, is along the road rather than following the arrow to the terrace and car park. Friendly staff, simple but varied menu. The food was delicious, the baguettes ( one crab mayo, two tuna mayo) were generously filled and well presented. Everyone was pleased with their choice! I liked the look of the starters menu, and opted for the asparagus and duck egg option which was absolutely delicious , beautifully presented, and an interesting light lunch. Several of the other starters would also make a lovely light lunch. Two starters if you’re greedy! We would return here when next in the area.

We stayed a night here en route to Scotland. What a lovely place! We loved our room and we so enjoyed our evening meal. Breakfast wasn't provided but there was a choice of cafes that opened early nearby so that wasn't a problem. We would definitely recommend this pub and restaurant to others. It's very good value, too.

Éramos un grupo de 9 chicos en un viaje a pie, después de haber caminado por un sólido 6 horas cuando llegue a Middleton en Teasdale. We stumbled on this pub restaurant last month, on a drive out from our house we would have normally gone to the crown at romaldkirk but I find it now very bland and overpriced, so we veered west to Middleton in tees dale after all if its prince Charles and Camilla's hideaway when they were lovers, it must have something! We came across such a still quaint village very quiet although it was a Monday night, we went into the Forresters as it claimed a French menu, we were only 3 people inside but had a great bottle of wine followed by great food, so we booked for 12 May "the French night" as it is run by a Frenchman it should be good, It was outstanding!!!!!! I had cassoulet which I had never eaten, fabulous, my husband had Bouillabaisse, which he loved, and the profiteroles for desert!!!!!!! Fabulous. And with lots of good wine £60 for two.

Hemos comido aquí antes y lo disfrutamos muchísimo muched tuvimos que intentarlo. ¡La verdad es que no nos decepcionó. La comida era de una gran calidad cocinados muy bien.. Tengo que decir que los tamaños de las porciones son generalmente en el gran tamaño pero porque la comida es tan buena que encontrará para todo.

estar en Middleton tenemos la suerte de poder disfrutar de la comida de Forresters más regular que algunos. El lugar en sí es bastante acogedor, el personal es muy amable y la comida es siempre fantástico. Somos una pareja Foody y disfrutar de una buena comida, el faire ofrecen es de origen local generalmente, temáticos y calidad superior francés.

Comimos en el Forresters última noche (está en Middleton-en-Teesdale, no Barnard Castle) y convino en que era la mejor comida que he comido en un restaurante del Reino Unido. El servicio fue excelente y la calidad de la comida era excepcional, vieiras para comenzar luego filete mignon para ambos. Muy recomendable.

Went on one of their specials nights - French Casseroles. Excellent value and superb food. We were well looked after despite not booking a table and the restaurant being busy. Thank you for one of the best meals we have had in the UK.

La calidad de la comida y el servicio era muy alto y una buena relación calidad-precio sorprendentemente bueno. pararse desperdigados particular eran los principiantes - la sopa de pimiento rojo y la especialidad francesa de patatas, queso y cebolla, y de los principales campos, carne y pollo, aunque mis galettes (tortitas) pasaron muy bien. raciones de verduras eran generosos y al dente-lo a la perfección y el triple de cocinar las patatas fritas para probablemente el mejor que he probado en mi vida. Sí, para intentar cualquier Wellington requiere habilidades culinarias. Para hacerlo con chuletas de cordero - carne mediano, repostería crujiente y luz? Excepcional. En el medio de las booneys. Antiguo alojamiento de piedra. Patio. Amplio aparcamiento. Habitación grande. Brillante durante el día. Atento, el servicio es muy amable. selección estacional decente. influencia francesa. Toda la comida que tuve fue bien sazonada, no demasiado salada. Una buena selección de bebidas no alcohólicas además pop, jugo y agua. Merece la pena el viaje en coche.

Sé que este lugar tiene excelentes críticas, y probablemente es el mejor lugar para la comida francesa en las inmediaciones del hotel, pero sin duda no se lo recomendaría a cualquiera que realmente quiere cocina clásica francesa. Parece que han tratado de crear un menú francés ese traje el área local, pero el resultado es un desastre que falla las cosas mejores de ambos tipos de comida completamente. No hay ninguno de los buenos, simplicidad de comida sana en inglés, y ninguno de los frescos, estilo bien presentada de la cocina francesa. La carne estaba exageradas y seco, y todo lo demás estaba mal condimentada y prácticamente sin sabor. Añadir a esto, el hecho de que era tan oscura que apenas podía ver mi comida, y resultó ser una experiencia bastante desagradable. Lo mejor era la bebida. Los buenos vinos y cócteles eran un alivio de la comida horrible, pero sin duda no lo compensan. Los sibaritas - este no es el lugar para ti.

Popped in for some food on a Sunday afternoon and the added bonus is its dog friendly! It was a lovely fresh cooked meal and service was good. Nice rustic atmosphere too and the dog loved snoozing near the log burning fire

Reservamos una mesa para cuatro aquí el domingo y tengo que decir que superó todas nuestras expectativas, el entrante de tartiflette era tan sabrosa nos preguntamos cómo el resto de la comida podría seguir, sin embargo muy satisfactoriamente no! suculento pollo en salsa de calvados, mi principal de carne de mi marido con una hermosa rica salsa que claramente había tomado horas de trabajo. Seguido de postres y quesos con café. En general, un fabuloso almuerzo con excelente servicio, los dos caballeros estaban muy bien informados y acogedor. El menú Hogmanay parece increíble y estoy pensando en dejar mi trabajo para asistir a! (Estoy en hospitalidad, así que es la única manera de que será capaz de conseguir año nuevo fuera!) así que quizás un poco extremas, pero estoy seguro que vale la pena!

Todavía tengo que recordar yo en realidad, vivimos en esta hermosa parte del mundo. Este restaurante se suma a la sensación de que estoy en una vacaciones largas cuando vamos allí. He estado en este hotel un par de veces pero sólo había unas cuantas cervezas como tienen cerveza de tonel en de barril. Última noche tuvimos nuestra comida de noche y fue fantástico. Los platos son buenos precios y tamaño, como esperaba. La calidad es excelente, recomiendo encarecidamente la bourguignon de carne. El personal es muy agradable y servicial. Si vas a pedir algún pimienta!!

Optamos por el menú fijo de £12.95 por dos platos: la sopa de cebolla francesa fue el mejor que he probado en mi vida, incluso en Francia. Seguido por el boeuf bourginon - de nuevo, la mejor. Me recordaba al pequeño país cruces plantadas joyas que hemos sido bastante afortunados de sales en vacaciones de conducir en Francia. El servicio era muy amable y servicial.

No tengo claro si cenar aquí de nuevo, debe haber (hay) una mejor relación calidad-precio para ser probado en otros lugares de la ciudad.

Nos alojamos en este hotel en varias ocasiones y nos pareció que el servicio de primera clase.normalmente nos alojamos en la habitación 6 con bañera y es un placer.La comida del bar es muy agradable, la comida del restaurante (francés) es insuperable. Teníamos soufflé y Vieira sopa sopa de queso para principiantes y luego cerdo medallones en Normandía y salsa de marisco linguini principales - no podía soportar un pud. Todo muy bien presentado y degustación fabuloso. Un poco caro, pero nada exagerado.

At first I did't know what to expect but when they brought out the meal I was amazed the steak burst with flavour and the creme brûlée was the best I ever had. Definitely go there again one of the best meals I've ever had.

Vivíamos cerca de la forresters y comimos aquí un par de veces al mes, para ocasiones especiales pero la comida es tan bueno no puedo decir no!

Just got back from Sunday lunch @ Forresters. We had a wonderful meal. I had French Onion Soup, dark black and treacly and really tasty. Even my two boys wanted some and they would normally reject anything with onions in it. The ladies had crab cakes that were freshly made and had a real zing to them. The boys had moules frites as a main course which they loved, and the beef, chicken and fish pie that the adults had were all excellent.House red was good and the service is professional, attentive and warm.We will definitely go back and have already recommended to friends. We live only 30 mins away yet had no idea about this restaurant until we saw an advert in the local paper about some theme nights eg Crepe night, Casoullet night etc...If you are thinking of a meal out in Barnard Castle then you should consider coming here instead. Better than anything on offer in town.

Tuvimos una excelente comida en el Forresters, como otros han dicho no es el más barato, pero muy buena calidad. Yo tenía carneœuf bourgignon y mi compañero costillas de cordero, ambos eran muy generosas porciones y muy sabroso. El personal era muy atento y también disfrutamos de una buena botella de Malbec para acompañar las comidas. Definitivamente regresaremos al lado de la zona.

Al venir de una familia de muy buenos chefs siempre estoy en el daño para una buena comida. Este restaurante es, de lejos, el mejor que he encontrado en años! Mi amigo y yo tenía la más fantástica comida allí el sábado noche reservamos en el último minuto. Desde la reserva a pagar la factura toda la experiencia fue perfecto. El servicio atento pero no intrusivo. La comida estaba recién preparada y probado fuera de este mundo. Las raciones son en el lado grande así que cometimos el error de tener entradas y plato principal que era precioso pero muy abundante. Ambos somos buenos amantes pero lamentablemente meterlo en un pud!! lo que ambos nos arrepentimos cuando vimos los postres llegan en la mesa de al lado. La principal fue acompañada por una botella de la casa roja. nuevo excelente calidad y muy bien de precio. El proyecto de ley a un smidge 60 libras así con propina era el mejor 35 libras que he pasado en años. Después de la cena nos deslizamos hacia el bar, el cual estaba lleno y tuvimos una sensación muy agradable. Buena suerte a los dueños de este lugar. fue muy refrescante tener buena calidad bien servido en un entorno agradable y no te sientes estafado! Podemos recomendar encarecidamente y estoy deseando volver. he oído la comida también es muy buena.
