Bistro Citron Vert in County Durham

Came here for Sunday lunch with family and was greeted by the most relaxing atmosphere and tasty food. Definitely worth the visit. Friendly staff too! Was busy so would reccomend booking.

We really enjoyed our visit. Between us we tried a lot of the menu and there was nothing any of us didn’t enjoy. Friendly service and good food that the county as a whole is lacking. We’ll be back 😀

One of the best restaurants outside of the capital. Lamb for main course - ten out of ten, tart tartin - twelve out of ten. Youll never enjoy better food! We were given a couple of squares of Citron Vert chocolate fudge as the Tarte Tartin was still in the oven (no complaint there!), and it was unbelievably good! So much so, Id buy it by the kilo.

I can't rate this place highly enough. Food always excellent, service always excellent and owner helpful and kind. We love it here, and are looking forward to our next visit

I saw this restaurant on my work travels a while ago and a few weeks ago I finally got to visit and it was well worth the wait, I loved the relaxed atmosphere and spaced out tables and the food was absolutely delicious. The Tarte tatin was unreal. I will definitely be going back. Thankyou

Cary and her wonderful team are always so welcoming. They greet you like old friends and are always happy to accommodate any requests we may have for them, including allowing me access through the kitchen with my wheelchair. We have been visiting here for many years now and we have just been discussing how it's a place we can guarantee that we will have a lovely meal in a lovely environment. Thank you for making my mother in law's birthday extra special with yet another wonderful meal. The restaurant offers a selected menu, with meals cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed. Unlike many higher end restaurants, the house wine is delicious and very reasonably priced.

One of the best meals I have ever enjoyed. I was taken as a birthday treat and had read great reviews, but nothing will prepare you for the quality of the food qnd the wonderful menu. We both had a Sunday roast, which was perfectly cooked and was a superb joint of lamb, with a beautiful selection of freshly prepared and cooked veg. I finished with crumble and cream, which was unbelievably good. The waiting staff were young, but very well presented and extremely helpful. It was great to see Cary the owner and chef, who came out to clear our plates and see if everything was OK. Needles to say, the answer was a resounding "YES"!

We had been looking forward to this birthday treat for a while and we were happy to be seated in a lovely restaurant with a nice atmosphere, friendly attentive young staff and good music. We enjoyed amazing mussels to start. I chose steak in peppercorn sauce to follow because I’d read an amazing review. It was served with gorgeous triple cooked chips and fresh seasonal veg. The steak was cooked as requested and the sauce was lovely, but in spite of this, I struggled to cut through the steak due to gristle around the outer edge and tough connective tissue in the centre. In spite of this, I had no intention of making a complaint, especially as it was my friend’s birthday treat. I enjoyed the rest of the meal but left most of the steak. When the young waitress came to collect my plate, she asked if I’d enjoyed my meal. I said,” Well, it wasn’t great”. I explained why, she apologised and said she would tell the chef. The chef came to my table within minutes, flanked by another member of staff and said they had cut through my steak in the kitchen and it ‘cut like butter’. I was shocked because this implied that my complaint was unjustified. She went on to say that the restaurant had never had any complaints before about the steak, which further fuelled my embarrassment. She offered to adjust the bill, but this was all done in front of other guests. I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a restaurant simply because I answered a question about my meal.

A small out of the way restaurant with very attentive staff, food was exceptional.

We have been a number of times now as a couple and with friends and have never had a complaint. They do have a reasonably small menu, but I have always found something I liked and nothing has ever disappointed. The waitressing staff were helpful and attentive, and the few times we have spoken to the owner she has been lovely and welcoming, almost as if we were enjoying a meal at her home. Thanks again and I look forward to our next meal there!

My husband and I had a fabulous evening at Bistro Citron Vert. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and has a lovely, warm and relaxing atmosphere. My partner and I had a lovely meal tonight at Citron Vert. The food is clearly all homemade and freshly cooked. The white chocolate cheesecake was particularly good and perhaps the best I’ve ever had. The service matched the high standard of cooking - a really pleasant young man who was really attentive.

The food was amazing We all had a different dish and we all enjoyed our meals. The meats were tender and the flavours were excellent. Very friendly staff and a great conversation with the owner/chef. We returned the following night as it was so good!!

Cary and the team always warmly welcome us to the bistro. The food is, without fail, always delicious. A great wine list and a good selection of other drinks. This place is dog friendly which is great, because why should our furry family members miss out on the experience! I'm in a wheelchair and although the bistro has steps, I am always welcomed in via the rear door through the kitchen which makes me feel like a VIP!! We will most definitely be back soon!

A wonderful Parisian delight situated in a former mining village in County Durham. Service was excellent, young and cheerful staff, food was first class. We had Sea Bass and Steak both cooked to our liking. Who would have thought a carrot could be so enjoyable! (To eat anyway) Will definitely be going again.

It was a wonderful surprise to find this delightful french bistro in the heart of the Durham countryside. A small but select menu with something for everyone. The service was attentive but not in your face, just as it should be. Food was delicious and the wine choice was a perfect accompaniment. A delightful evening that lived up to our expectations. Visited this bistro with a friend for a traditional Sunday lunch. Firstly there are probably 35 covers there, not 14 as previously mentioned. Secondly, the staff were very friendly and efficient. My roast beef was excellent and served medium rare and the vegetables were al dente. My companion enjoyed her roast loin of pork. The downside? A man came into the restaurant with a dog and was seated 1 metre away from us. He asked if we objected to dogs and my companion said that she was nervous of them. He then informed us, without apology, that two more dogs were coming. These duly arrived and the man said to his two companions that "she", indicating my companion, was nervous of dogs. The three of them then carried out an hour-long, very loud conversation. I let the whole matter go in deference to other dinners and my companion. Should dogs be allowed in eating establishments? I don't think so. Would I go back? Probably not.

Never fails. My favourite restaurant

The bistro were having a special event to raise money for the Ukraine. Offering a range of pancakes, or crepes. They were very much enjoyable, especially the banana pecan with ice cream! We visited Citron Vert for the first time, even though it is quite close to home, and we are likely to come back at some point, as this was a very good experience.

Altogether a very enjoyable experience: very pleasant atmosphere, great service and attentive staff. The food was excellent, well presented and reasonably priced. There was quite a gap between the first and second courses, but overall we were very well looked after.

Disappointed on our visit with friends on a Saturday night in March. Portion sizes were much reduced compared with previous visits and we even wondered if they'd run out and were sharing portions out. It was our 'go to' for special occasions since DH1 closed but other places offer better value for money based on our recent experience. Sadly we won't be rushing back.

First time visiting last night, and devasted we have only just found this gem! Fantastic flavours on offer in each course and the presentation was equally good. The owner/chef came around, introduced herself and chatted about her restaurant. All ingredients are locally sourced and the menu changes roughly every month. The resturant itself is only small but creates an intimate atmosphere where you don't just feel like another table. We certainly would of paid more for the food and cant wait to go back.

Our first time tnite and it was very pleasent. We both had the lamb and it was lovely. my partner had the 3 mini cakes for desert and it was nice. I had the profitta rolls and although the chocolate sauce was to die for the rolls were tasteless. The owner/chef was on form as ever. The starters were delicious and of the right size. The meat in the mains was cooked to perfection: juicy, slightly rare lamb. Still full of flavour.
