I've never had any issues with this place, but apparently, you now have to book in advance to order food.

I entertained 30 or so employees in the upstairs facilities with the Duck providing a buffet meal. All my team had a great night with superb food and well looked after by the staff and the beer wasn't bad either!! Would recommend it as a place to hold an event

Lovely traditional pub serving proper ale and great food. Had their pie of the week, so nice to get a proper pie with all shortcrust pastry as opposed to a bowl with a pastry lid that a lot of pubs now serve as a pie.... The cask ale they have from Wharfedale brewery is lovely, good range and very well kept. They also do mini kegs to take away. Pub is lovely inside, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Now my favourite place to go for a pint in Ilkley.

Booked a table for food and drinks, only to arrive and firstly a staff member refused to give us menus, then after 20mins of sitting in the cold pub were told we would have a very long wait for food because the chef was already cooking for six people! Not sure how a pub can't handle cooking for 8 people at once, especially when we'd booked. Bizarre experience and glad we left to a much more welcoming and competent establishment.

We have always really enjoyed this pub when visiting Ilkley. But it came into its own as a venue for a Friday night 'wedding-eve' gathering of friends and family. About 50-60 of us spent a fabulous evening in the two upstairs rooms. The space was perfect for our event (notwithstanding the odd sore head from the low wooden beam between the rooms...). The buffet was just right for the occasion and presented with care (with full account taken of various dietary needs). The two staff who ran the dedicated upstairs bar and supported the whole event didn't put a foot wrong. Friendly, welcoming, accommodating, they made it clear that they enjoyed having our gathering with them. Every single guest was full of praise for the evening, for the staff, and for the venue. We'd like to put on record our heartfelt thanks to everyone at the Flying Duck for their part in what was a wonderful and memorable wedding weekend.

Shocked at the end. After spending an evening with two friends drinking and catching up, last orders came and went and yes, time got away but instead of being asked to leave politely (which we would have done as it was nearly midnight ) the manager turned the volume up stair's, playing everything from Children’s music to loud heavy metal. I presume this was to force us out! We left with a sarcastic comment from him about shutting at 11 o’clock. I will never step foot in the Flying Duck ever again and will tell everyone about the experience.

Not impressed. The staff are generally very good and friendly, albeit sometimes overcharging, and I have visited the pub weekly for several months with a group of friends. The beer is always good. I have never had a meal so cannot comment. The landlord however is obnoxious. Our group were upstairs, I was at the bar ordering drinks. The chairs in the small bar have no cushions, one member of the group got a seat cushion from the other upstairs bar which was, and usually is on the night we attend, totally empty. My wife thought this an idea and went to get one for me as I have pain issues, she tried to move a seat cushion, found it was velcro'ed down, and left it in situ. The landlord bounded up the stairs two at a time and shouted at my wife accusing her of trying to steal his cushions! She tried to explain, but he just shouted her down, The man who had brought a cushion explained to the landlord, but he still gave her a lecture and stormed off. I had heard the shouting, thought he was having a go at a derelict member of staff it was that vehement, but when In returned with the drinks and found my wife upset and wanting to leave, I went downstairs and asked him why he had spoken to my wife in that fashion, his response was "Right you want me to apologise do you" and he bounded up the stairs in anger and made a mock attempt at an apology, and left. Not a nice man, not a nice man at all. I have seen him angry several times and he has been sharp with me, when I have asked him to turn lights on etc. Basil Fawlty without the comedy. I will not be returning to the pub.

Built in 1709, what is now the Flying Duck is one of the oldest commercial buildings in Ilkley and grade II listed. It's been many shops in It's history including a dairy, a shoe makers and a sweet shop. It's currently one of the finest pubs in Wharfedale and offers a wide selection of beer's, delicious food, live entertainment and a very relaxed atmosphere. Two of It's most striking architectural features are the original oak joists and the stone fireplace. The pub has two floors, outside seating and it's also dog friendly. To anyone who loves a traditional and earthy pub with an interesting history then this is definatly a place to visit.

My favourite pub in Ilkley. The real ale is the best there is with its own Wharedale Brewery ales, and other local ales, too. Staff are always welcoming and helpful. Last May (2022) we went in soaked after a walk across the Moor and we were welcomed no problem. We sat right next to the real fire and dried off. It was perfect. It is often fairly busy, though I have never struggled to get a seat. It is dog friendly, I noticed. Toilets are very clean and well maintained. It's on the A65 itself, there is a main car park in the centre of Ilkley, or free parking in the streets if you can get it, but I like to pop in on the train, which is about half a mile or less from this pub. Honestly if I am able to have a pint in Ilkley this is always my first call, and I would recommend you get here, too.

Ordered a 16-inch family size pizza with half pepperoni and half chicken with vegetables. The overall taste was average. When I took a bite, the toppings and cheese kept sliding off, which made it a bit messy to eat. The cheese was quite chewy, and the pizza itself was a bit too oily for my liking. On the bright side, the vegetables tasted fresh and were probably the best part of the pizza.
