The Florentine in Sheffield

We booked a table for 7.15 and didn’t receive our mains until 9pm once received they where then wrong. The service was lovely but they did not communicate with us on how long the food was taking to come out, it seemed a comment theme throughout the restaurant. Having one member of staff serving a very large section of the restaurant made timings very slow. We didn’t eat our mains and just left, will not be returning which is a shame as it is such a beautiful pub. With it being valentines weekend and so late we could not get a reservation elsewhere and ended up having to go home. Very disappointed

Excellent! We had a lovely meal, good quality & served hot with great presentation. Staff were fab - we were made very welcome & well looked after. Got the impression they all got on well, were happy in their job & genuinely wanted us to enjoy our visit. We really enjoyed it & will definitely be coming back 😊

Lovely venue in Ranmoor (the most affluent suburb in the city). Bar service could be a little more attentive but the food and atmosphere is always great. Haven’t stayed at the hotel but my parents have and say the rooms are lovely. Make sure you ask for a room facing towards the car park as otherwise you may get one at the back with a limited view.

I have been visiting this restaurant for almost 12 years now and I can say the service is progressively getting worse. the staff have always been great and friendly and The food is good if you’re prepared to wait 2 hours for a meal. It’s a shame there used to be too many staff now just one per section. I can understand slow relaxed service but this isn’t that. Won’t be returning

Stayed out for valentines night with my husband the room.was very nice and comfortable. We have the three course set menu my husband had the steak that was cooked prefect. Prefect night and a great breakfast this morning. All staff was very polite. We will definitely be back.

It didn't seem like the Florentine we used to go to . The tables were full of empty glasses and crockery my husband had to take is lager back it was flat, waiting a long time to get served even though there was only one other person in the queue. Standards are not the same

Went on Sunday evening. Disappointed that there was no roast beef available. Also no pizzas available. Food was good - I had the roast - very nice but could have done with more vegetables.

The amazing staff at the Florentine came to our rescue after a run of bad luck meant we were let down by the original venue for our little one's much awaited birthday party. Despite our plea being very last minute, they kindly let us host in the private dining area. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind, and the room was set up perfectly for a small party. There is ample parking space, and the whole venue worked perfectly. We are so grateful to the staff for helping making our little one's birthday party a reality, and highly recommend anyone looking for a venue to host a party to consider the Florentine! Thank you so much!

This is our regular hangout on a Saturday morning, great coffee and breakfast. Lovely service especially the wonderful Julie.

A relaxed and comfortable place with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Emily looked after us very well. We enjoyed the food which, with 30% off mains, was good value.

Great food as always, the Sunday roast is delicious.

This hotel restaurant is truly amazing, attention to detail everywhere you look, room was well appointed, clean and had everything we needed. Evening meal was perfect, service spot on and food tasted great! Cannot recommend The Florentine enough if you’re staying in the area. Far superior to more run of the mill hotels!

Steve was really helpful, he was informative about gluten free options and let us know that there might be a delay due to staff sickness in the kitchen however the food arrived quickly. Would definitely return, thanks :)

AVOID THIS HOTEL - Checked out within an hour of arrival Hotel could not provide our booked room and so put us in a cheaper rate room without informing us either before arrival or at check in. When we queried it (showing them pictures the room we were in online) they said it was actually now more expensive to stay in that so we couldn’t be refunded. Staff and manager could not have been less interested in resolving it, we had to get Expedia involved and the hotel then complained to us about that! The manager then told us she would waive our first night fee due to quick check out…I lack words for that. Extremely dishonest behaviour. Aside from the rude staff, the room was dirty (large mud stains across the carpet) and sealed windows with fur on them. Bathroom was absolutely freezing and had 1 towel. Hotel is a lot more run down and dated than pictures suggest. We have never complained at a hotel before and have never left one before, but we felt so strongly about how awful this hotel was.

Lovely evening, despite the snowy weather, with quick and efficient service from our waitress, Georgia.

Fantastic evening celebrating our friends baby shower. Staff were very helpful, friendly and attentive. Buffet was delicious and plenty of choice for our group. We were grateful for the extra room for our food to be served and the private room we used was perfect for our party. Thank you very much to all the team.

Great service, lovely atmosphere but food was very underwhelming, sweet potato and chickpea curry was bland and watered down and the naan bread did not taste fresh and for the price you pay, disappointing. The female toilets also had an unpleasant smell.

Haven’t heard great reviews about the food beforehand, but decided to give it another try. Such a long wait on the food, pizza was cold, messed up a kids order and never received the second order of chips bear in mind the place wasn’t busy. Also, payment was taken on order which I don’t agree with.

Been to the florentine many times and have enjoyed it each time I’ve visited! Violet was our server today and she was really welcoming, hospitable and a lovely server!

We called ahead after visiting another local establishment which was full. We wanted to sit down after a lovely walk at Rivelin Valley and enjoy food and a drink for 5 adults and 4 children. We were welcomed by friendly staff and offered a private side room which was perfect for the youngest children to roam whilst we were sat down. Due to the warm welcome we all ordered main meals as opposed to nibbles, a mixture of burgers, steak and pizzas. Everyone enjoyed their food. The atmosphere was lovely and we would definitely visit again if we went for another local walk!

We have our family Christmas eve breakfast here every year and it's always been wonderful. Great communication when booking and sending preorders, fabulous service and excellent food. Our group seems to get bigger each year. 27 this year! Thank you again

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was polite and efficient. For my meal, I ordered the roast turkey, which was fine, however nothing special. The crumble for dessert was nice and a good finish to the meal. Overall, the meal was good but it didn’t quite stand out in any major way. If you’re looking for a simple, no-fuss meal, Florentine is a good choice, but don’t expect anything too special. I’d say it’s a solid option if you're in the area.

Have just had the best Christmas Day dinner we have ever had in our lives at The Florentine. We have eaten out several times over the years on Christmas Day and have never had such an exceptional Christmas Day dinner, or in fact, such a delicious roast anywhere else on any day in the year. We had both vegetarian and roast beef options on our table and both were equally impressive. The flavours of every single dish were absolutely incredible! The flavours from the carrots to the gravy, yorkshire puddings and main course came alive in your mouth. Whoever has sourced the ingredients has found the highest quality and it absolutely shows. The cooking and preparation of the food was gorgeous and the Christmas pudding was delicate yet flavourful, with a combination of vanilla, red currants and brandy all popping in your mouth. Even the Pinot Grigio on the drinks menu was impeccably chosen. The side dishes were very generous portion sizes, too. No skimping. Absolutely quality service and food at every stage. The mains and desserts were particularly brilliant. Steve and Violet served us and were both really lovely. We were in the last sitting so a hard part of the day for the waiting team and yet they were very warm, friendly and efficient, without being over the top or too pushy. Both were very on it without making you feel rushed at all. The manager was lovely too and obviously cared about both his customers and staff a lot. Genuine and heartfelt compliments to the chef, waiting staff and all the cooking team and anyone involved in creating the menu and food for such delicious dishes! I have never been so enthusiastic after a meal!

Very nice setting and a well looked after restaurant. The food surpassed expectations, all 8 of us really enjoyed our meals. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. It was sufficiently busy for there to be an atmosphere but we could all hear each other really well. Would definitely go back and happily recommend. Thank you.

We had a private party in one of the small rooms. A really lovely Christmas meal. An excellent festive menu, huge portions of beautifully cooked tasty food, attentive, efficient and friendly staff and all at a very reasonable price. A good choice of beers, wines and other drinks too. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Came here for our twins first birthday and had a little gathering. It was wonderful, the staff were amazingly tentative and the food was lovely. Would definitely recommend this place and we will certainly be returning to try out the pizzas.

Birthday celebrations for 15 people in the function room. Friendly staff,food came in same time,lamb shank was falling off the bone,steaks great and fish and chips big portions! Only the mash potato hard,and Sunday roast was a small portion for my fried,who is a big ,fit lad,he was a bit disappointed . The children enjoyed their meals, It was a great atmosphere,calm music,tv for the kids in the function room,and it was warm and cosy! Thank you for your service,I'd book again! Family celebration for twins 1st birthday. All the staff were friendly and helpful. In particular the 2 young ladies, Rads and Violet, who looked after our needs for the afternoon.

Excellent in all respects! Recommended.

3 stars given as overall everything was very average at not so average price. Nothing particularly bad about the food or service except my husbands steak was very tough. We've had very similar food at one of the hungry horse chains that was just a good at a fraction of the price. Don't mind paying the price but would have just expected a little more for the money.

Had a lovely meal here. Tom and Steve were very welcoming and accommodating and helped me navigate the menu taking into account an allergy. Portions good and nicely presented. Service excellent, thank you for a lovely evening! Will certainly be back.

Disappointing Sunday lunch. Staff and surroundings were really nice, the food was tasty but the portions were extremely stingy. My pork was a few wafer thin strips that barely amounted to a mouthful and my mum's turkey was a couple of meagre slices that brought to mind what poor Mrs Cratchit would have served before Scrooge was visited by his 3 ghosts. A sign of the times perhaps but I don't think we'll be back.

A normal 'pub' with standard food at a reasonable price. Loses a bit of atmosphere because of the high ceiling.

First visit after a recommendation, which was very appreciated as the food, venue, and service were great. Our server, Violet, was helpful and attentive. She recommended the caramel tart, which was delicious! Will definitely be coming back for more 🙂

What a wonderful environment, with fantastic and friendly staff. Emily and Violet served us with warmth and smiles - thank you for lovely service! My only constructive feedback is that a child-free area would be nice. There were a lot of families with young children running around and screaming a lot, which would have been nice to be away from, rather than next to. Maybe that’s something you can look at? Really enjoyed the lunch time meal. Very tasty food, great quantity without sacrificing quality. Steve was a phenomenal server and really sweet with our 2 year old and accommodated us brilliantly.

Good size carpark, it's on a slope though and there are big steps to get to the reception. Check in is at the reception on the side of the bar. All information given A couple of flights of stairs to get to the room. The room itself is a good size, the shower room was on the snug size! Bed is super comfortable Wifi excellent The shower was hot and powerful. Evening meal was excellent, a bit of a wait as they were quite busy. Breakfast is not included but could be added if wanted. The location is set on the edge of the city close to the university. Would definitely stay again when in the area.

Very enjoyable two night stay with b&b plus dinner. Food was excellent quality and the staff were efficient, helpful and accommodating, especially with room allocation. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient especially Violet. The bed was comfortable and the heating was efficient and easily adjusted for temperature. There is very little storage space in the room but it was ok for two nights. The shower was small but very efficient. Be aware there is no lift and rooms are on the first and second floor.

Food and service were both absolutely great. Violet and Sydney in particular were incredibly friendly and helpful all evening. Would recommend!

No roasts left by 4.30pm after we booked a table for Sunday dinner. Disappointing as it says serves until 9pm but no Sunday dinners left by 4.30pm. They need to prepare for Sundays having Sunday dinners in. Won’t be going back or recommending due to disappointment.

This place surprised me, good food, friendly staff and really nice atmosphere was created in the building. The rooms are minimal but functional and with really good taste. Bravi I'll come back surely.

Lovely food great atmosphere and good company

The Florentine was a lovely, cosy, clean hotel with fabulous, friendly, welcoming staff and great food.

We had a table booked for dinner on a weekday evening for the birthday of a family member. There were maybe 2 other occupied tables of diners in the bar area, and one large party who were seated in the dining area having drinks (which was quite loud although I appreciate this was out of the hands of staff). Staff were friendly, but not overly attentive (we had to wait a while to be seated, took a while for order to be taken, they forgot to bring dessert menus). The food was fantastic with one hiccup - having ordered a vegetarian meal I was actually presented with a meat dish. Thankfully I noticed before I started to eat, but this could've been really problematic for another diner. Subsequently I was still waiting to eat whilst others in our group were tucking in.

Really cosy atmosphere and nice decor. However WWE waited almost 40 mins for our order. One of our party had fish and chips and whilst the fish was really good the batter was like concrete!! Even though I had asked for the dessert menu after the waiter took our main course plates away I still had to ask another waiter about 20 mins later.

The Florentine was absolutely fantastic for our recent meal. I currently have tricky dietary requirements at the moment and they could not have been more accommodating

Went here for a work dinner. We booked a private room to dine in. It's a lovely pub with a great atmosphere. FYI - food needed to be pre-ordered at least a few days in advance (to ensure they had the right ingredients for the meal). There aren't many vegetarians/ pescatarian +/- alcohol free options. I ended up getting the seabass without the white wine sauce. It was lovely but the portion size was on the smaller side and I'm sure it would have been much better with a sauce. I got molten chocolate cake for dessert (they had run out of the lemon tart and cheesecake!). Overall, lovely place but has a shortage of options and need to order in advance!

Nice cosy warm atmosphere with friendy staff. Excellent food. Easy access for my Dad's wheelchair. I particularly like being able to use my tastecard.

Absolutely stunning room. Really spacious and lovely toiletries. We had pizza in the restaurant for dinner and had breakfast on one of the mornings- both were really nice. Unfortunately, refreshing your room each day does not come as standard. You have to request it, which we did. Tea bags were replaced and tea cups washed, but that was it. The bed wasn’t made, loo roll not topped up, and no other refresh done. I don’t think I’ve ever run out of loo roll in a hotel until now!

Honestly, this is a lovely, warm, welcoming place, and I was all in for going the full 5-star across the board. It was the “room refresh” that let it down. We stayed 2 nights, and had 1 “refresh”. This seems to have only involved replacing tea bags and freshening the cups. We came back to unmade beds, and we ran out of toilet roll. That’s was a red line for me. I hope you can look at this and improve as it’s a stunning location, beautiful room with great food, but just needs that extra attention in my opinion.

Fui a cenar con la familia. La comida era buena. Las porciones son un poco más pequeñas que en algunos pubs, pero parecen centrarse más en la calidad que en la cantidad. Solo dos cuestiones para nosotros: La camarera nos dio un menú de postres y luego no volvió por siglos. No nos molestamos en tener uno al final. También los baños eran un poco fragantes, lo que era una sorpresa dada la vibra ligeramente más lujosa que la mayoría de los pubs de cadena.

Came here on (an admittedly busier than one may expect) Tuesday for a birthday meal having been a few times before over the years. The place seemed critically understaffed and wait times were high for ordering, receiving drinks, and receiving food. At one point we ordered a bottle of wine and our waiter clearly didn’t know the menu as we had to tell him twice which wine we wanted and when it was brought to the table we had to ask again for glasses to actually drink it out of. These are small issues, but they compound when service is already slow and frenetic. The food was mostly ok, however two of our party ordered the (£20) steak which was disappointingly dry and bland - the tomato being the most flavourful thing on the plate, another of us ordered a pizza which for the price was also disappointing. It’s a shame to see the quality of The Florentine drop, as it used to be a favourite for celebrations. Hope they can turn their act back around
