I would never buy fish here as it never looks particularly fresh but each to their own. What is astonishing is that they’re charging £1.50 for a small bag of crab bait consisting of bits of mackerel guts and head - you know the stuff you throw away. So £1.50 pure profit taking it from small children or obviously their parents. Says a lot in my view - none of it good!

Went to Mudeford Quay April 13th lovely sunny day just a little windy. I bought a pop of Prawns, and I have to sadly say that in my opinion we’re definitely not fresh, they never had any taste of the Sea or sweetness what so ever, more like the frozen tasteless ones you buy in Cash n Carry…..wont be going to this establishment again.

Ordered 2 lobster to be picked up Sunday morning. Was advised they would be about £30/35 depending on the size. Collected them Sunday morning and a very helpful young lady, split the lobsters and cracked the claws for us, wrapped them up, and placed them on ice in a carrier bag. Cost £67.50 for 2 big lobsters that were absolutely delicious. I thought that this was very good value. Just wished we lived closer as I would be there more often. Highly recommend.

Ride Staff. I have been to Mudeford many times over the years and love the place, the whole area is beautiful. I recently popped into The Fish Stall towards the end of the day to buy some bits and found one female member of staff to be extremely rude. I appreciate people can have a bad day and get stressed but I hope they dont speak to all customers like that or they'll soon be out of business. I will definitely not be visiting again. From reading previous reviews this doesnt appear to be the first time. Time to buy a rod and catch my own fish. 🦀🦐🎣🐟

We were looking forward to our Valentine's seafood platter (£39.99) but we were so disappointed. The king prawns were very salty and did not taste fresh, the dressed crab had a thin layer of white crab meat on top of a thick layer of orange coloured brown meat. It tasted awful that nobody ate more after tasting it. The only positive feedback was the four oysters. They were large and ancient (evident from the shells) and were tasty. The small lobster was okay but I have tasted sweeter from the freshly caught ones from Lymington quay. We won't be buying from here again!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We went over to Mudeford with the express intention of getting some really fresh locally caught fish for supper that night. We've eaten fish from there in past as my brother in law and his family used to buy fish there when they were down on holiday and camping near to Mudeford and they would often buy mackerel or the like and then bring it to us for a barbecue. And we've often said that we should go over there to get some fish ourselves but never actually managed it. Earlier this week we realised why we've never bothered before and probably won't again. I think the first thing that puts one off is the car park which I fully accept is not owned by the fish stall or the adjacent pub but is the only place to park if you want to use either. The spaces are tiny and for anything larger than a super-mini they are difficult to get a car into and then open the door without banging the car next to you. And it's expensive. £3.50 was 2 hours (which I seem to recall was the minimum charge). And so to the fish stall itself. Having been to the large fish stalls in places like Brixham, I was expecting something a little more impressive. It's a small building with a covered walkway from where you can see the fish laid out on 2 counters, each about the size of a fish counter in a large supermarket but nothing like as impressive as the fish counters you get in the hypermarkets in France. And on the morning we went there was not a lot to choose from. One counter was mostly empty; the other had a few plaice, some segments of what looked like sea bass, some smoked haddock, tuna steaks and a few others. But nothing was labelled and there were no prices advertised anywhere other than on a board outside that listed their value packs which didn't seem especially good value to me compared to what I have bought from other local suppliers. But I think the thing that disappointed the most was that the fish didn't look fresh. None of the fish had that glossy look that really fresh fish exhibits and my daughter who was with us agreed, She has trained under 2 different Michelin starred chefs and is used to seeing what her current hotel's fish supplier brings in fresh each morning. We both wondered, and I have since noticed that others on here have suggested this, that the fish had been previously frozen although I do concede i have no evidence to back that up. It may have been a one-off day. It may have simply been my and my family's poor judgement, but either way it was enough for us to walk away without purchasing anything and deciding that we'll not waste £3.50 ever again down at Mudeford Quay. I was in 2 minds about a 1 or 2 star rating because the fish stall has no control over the car park but then the thing that tipped me towards 1 was the complete lack of information about the products. I've been to other fish stalls in other parts of the UK where each box of fish tells you which boat caught it and when it was landed. There was less information here than I would expect in a supermarket. I did give them the benefit of the doubt on customer service because we didn't really stay long enough to interact with them, but as has often been said, you have 30 seconds to make a good first impression. In that respect, the fish stall failed to make that first impression.

We were shocked to read Tripadvisors review of the stall, fortunately we read the reviews after visiting. I can only say that the numerous negative reviews have had the desired effect and service and selection of fish has improved.I am happy to say that the service provided yesterday was pleasant and informative. We ordered different types of shell fish which were extremely tasty. My only gripe is that I wish there is seating out front, unfortunately there is none and we looked and found a park bench to devour our tasty seafood.

Recently moved to the area and was looking forward to regularly buying local fresh fish however I have been hugely disappointed. Visited many times, all different days and times and have so far bought nothing!! Even the crab comes from Scotland and there has been no local catch. The service as many others have said is surly and unfriendly so I have given up. Tourists seem happy enough to buy crab lines and cockles but supermarket is better and cheaper for fish. This could be a real jewel but it falls way short why they don’t sell and promote the local fish is beyond me, I guess with so many tourists in summer they don’t have to try very hard.

We have bought fish from mudeford fish stall severaltimes and always be happy with service, however visited yesterday, had a sullen unfriendly welcome. When my husband asked in a friendly way how the fish stock was today, he bluntly grunted I am just looking. Tried to talk to young man but he wasn't interested. An older man came out and said we were not happy with the attitude and had not experienced it before! We have been several times. The young man said well I've never seen you before. The older thought it was funny ,my husband said it's not funny to be rude when taking money from customers. He then said it must be a clash of personalities! On top of this the young man was going to put prawns in package when it clearly said on board smoked salmon.I queried this and he very rudely said . Well it's on my list.I showed him the board outside advertising the family packand it did not have prawns but smoked salmon. There was no apology.

Then she went on the phone. Rude Rude. ....finally on Thursday we got the mackerel but not very happywith the service. Lad said that would be £2.10 then when asked to fillet it he couldn't a other man did it. He weighed the fish again and said £3.50 what... First £2.10 ??? We told him this and he said he was talking to someone else. Advice get some staff with customer training.

If cockles and shellfish are your thing for the day then this is sort of OK but The Fish Stall is a very poor fish shop that sells a lot of frozen fish, and the rest is rather expensive for what you get. There always appears to be lots of choice but there is not much of it and it therefore sells out very quickly. The attitudes of the staff there varies a lot and you often get a young lad with attitude serving at weekends, so he is best avoided.
