Used this restaurant and takeaway a few times and the fish and chips are always very fresh and excellent. Service with a smile

just had a really really nice bit of haddock and fantastic chips - definitely recommend.

We've just had the best service and food and a brilliant laugh with such a lovely bunch of people, Ray, Holly and Kerry! Thank you so much for the amazing food, the prawns were to die for, very much needed to soak up the alcohol drunk today. When we return to Christchurch we will definitely come and see you again 🥰

We found this little goldmine whilst walking through Christchurch town and can honestly say we have never had cod and chips like it,everything including the chips are fresh and tasty,we come down from London to Christchurch 4 times a year and our highlight is to go into the Priory,besides the food been amazing the owners and staff go above and beyond for you,so anyone looking for the best fish and chips in Christchurch give this place a try because I promise you you won’t be disappointed x

Stopped by yesterday for 2 cod and chips on a day out. The fish was cooked fresh, no skin and batter was lovely and crispy. Chips were very good too. You could tell this was a very well run shop and the owner takes great pride in delivering a first rate takeway. Just wish the chippies around Pinner were half as good.

Had the most amazing Haddock and chips, the batter was light and crispy, the chips were lovely and not greasy at all. We dined in their small restaurant which was so clean and comfortable. The staff were all polite and friendly, the chef was very friendly The shop was so busy so obviously very popular in the area Would advise booking the restaurant as it gets busy. When I am back in Christchurch I will definitely go back!

Fantastic fish and chips and king prawns. Generous portions and delivered right on time by a charming delivery driver. Recently visited an awarding winning fish and chips in Fife and I have to say the Priory Fryer was 100 times better. Absolutely excellent.

My friend and I were visiting Christchurch and were lucky to spot this little gem for our fish and chips recently. The young lady that served us was really polite, friendly and helpful, I think it was the owner, another lady that took the time to come and say hello also. We ate in the restaurant at the rear of the shop, which was very clean and comfortable. The fish and chips really were amazing, it was actually the best I'd had in a long time and I would highly recommend if you're in Christchurch to definitely eat here, thank you to the staff.

While passing through the city this was the best fish and chips we've ever had.

Fish ok but chips were just a solid mass of grease all sticking together. How difficult is it to make them crisp. We threw them in the bin.

Amazing fish & chips. This is the second time we’ve been & it didn’t disappoint. Near to Hengistbury Head as well as beautiful Christchurch.

Positives: fish was great, lovely light batter Negatives: chips not great, several bones in haddock, the lovely waitress we started with went awol at the point we wanted to pay and leave In summary, I wouldn’t rush to go back sadly

Very disappointed- have used before and delivery and food has always been great. Last nights order arrived at the end of the half hour slot given. It was the only order in the bottom of the insulated bag, we were obviously the last delivery on the run. The order was hardly warm and the fish was dry and chewy and small for a large cod ☹️

Genuinely some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The curry sauce was also excellent. The kids meal was great and good value for money. I hope to visit every time I come to Christchurch

The chips are fantastic but sadly the service lets it down. Staff were quite unfriendly and even though this time we simply ordered two chips to takeaway we were waiting for over thirty minutes. Completely understand a wait for fresh chips, other orders etc but this seems a little excessive

We were on a day out, wanted some fish and chips. Did a Google found priory fryer, The owner certainly knows how to run a chip shop. There is a sit down restaurant at the back. We were on a Monday night and the shop was busy. God knows what Friday and Saturday are like. Brilliant and chips, very tasty. Recommend you try this Excellent

I recently took my class to have fish and chips here. The students loved them and what great value for money. Kids meal, drink and a sauce. Cheap as chips! The staff were helpful and friendly and made our day out so plesent. Thank you very much. So far, you're top of their list. Even better than Swanage and Sandbaks. 5 stars from the class. And that takes a lot.

We got a take away from here a couple of nights ago and I can honestly say, it’s the best meal from a chip shop that we have EVER had!! We ordered fish, halloumi, chips and pineapple fritters and everything was cooked to perfection. We ate every last mouthful and enjoyed it all. The staff were lovely and friendly too. We aren’t local (we live near Fareham and stumbled upon you by chance when in the area) but we will certainly be popping back very soon. Can’t wait to try more items from your menu!

GOBSMACKED myself and a friend who live and work locally decided to pop in on our lunch break. We entered and was seated by an absolutely lovely lady who gave is menus. Just as we were about to order an extremely rude and arrogant member of staff confronted the staff member told her she shouldn't have sat us there and that it's to late she shouldnr be taking our order, bearing in mind ots 1.30pm at this point so lunchtime. There is no way this should be done to start with and it certainly shouldn't be done in front of customers. I wasn't having it I'm extremely angry at how the lady who was serving us was treated it was out right bullying. I told the offender that she clearly has a problem with us being there, it was both rude and aggressive and if she had an issue she should have taken the member off staff to the side, definitely not at the table. I can't comment on the food as we didn't get to try any, after the outright rudeness we didn't feel welcome and got up and left. Literally due to a member of staffs appealing attitude and she clearly has something better she wants to do £50 of custom just walked out the door, and we won't be back. I sincerely hope the lovely lady who initially sat us and was about to take our order is ok, as she did absolutely nothing wrong and in no way deserved to be treated so disrespectfully. If I had a position available at my business I would have offered it to her there and then. As I was so disgusted at how she was spoken to.

We ate cod chips and mushy peas. The standard was fantastic and the portions were very big.I have eaten at many similar establishments in the UK but this was up to the very highest standard. Brilliant.

Lacked a little music so overall the atmosphere was a wee bit flat. However, the food was amazing. My partner and i went in for a evening meal yesterday ( Monday). The chef was very attentive as i have certain allergies. The young waitress was very polite. As for the food, i was amazed. Light and not greasy at all. We will be going back!

Ordered the cod chunks and chips the batter on the cod chunks was nice and crispy and cooked perfectly, chips were fluffy on the inside and crunchy on outside not a thing over or under done. Haven't had a chippy for ages most have gone down hill but recommend this one will be back for more

I’ve tried many fish chips across Bournemouth to Christchurch and this is my number 1 place. Ate in restaurant had Cod chips curry sauce and Apple tango from the OSP menu for £11 ! Very smart and clean toilets. Nice staff.

Fantastic Fish and Chips. Ordered 1 Senior Citizen and 1 Regular Fish and Chips. Freshly cooked so had to wait but boy was it worth it. Chips were crispy and dry and Fish batter was same. Will highly recommend. And we will return again

As overnight visitors to Christchurch to were pleased to find an eat in fish and chip shop and we weren’t disappointed. The staff friendly and the food delicious served as generous portions. With drinks it cost the same per head as it costs at home for takeaway, no drinks, smaller portions and fish overcooked so delighted we found this place. Well done Priory Fryer 👏

I discovered this Fish & Chips place last July while visiting Christchurch. We were very impressed with the quality of the food ... Meaty cod freshly cooked in an amazing fluffy batter and lovely chips. Even the local Vicar recommended this place ! Back in Christchurch yesterday for work, I had to visit again as I had been looking forward to enjoying a very tasty Fish & chips. I certainly wasn't disappointed.... I ordered a large cod and small chips. I tucked into it and I enjoyed every mouthful. Freshly cooked and as tasty as ever. Best Fish & chips shop in Dorset !!! Thank you to the Lady ( cook ) and young girl for an excellent service. Well done. I'm already looking forward to my next visit, shame I live in west London.

Went Tuesday and wasn't open. Popped in for lunch Wednesday. Cod , chips and a cuppa. Seniors price £11. Basic surroundings, food quick and good.

Great chippy! The food is really good quality and well priced. The staff are friendly and make sure you are looked after. Our order was all cooked fresh and well enjoyed. I would recommend the Priory and will happily return next time I'm in the area.

Best chippie ever! We love Priory Fryer. Great fish with the option of breadcrumbs over batter, really chunky chicken pieces, a far cry from a nugget and perfect chips. Portion sizes are generous and it's all freshly prepped and well served. Add in the lovely atmosphere and the great service from a happy team and this is bordering on the perfect take away. Highly recommend if you're around the Christchurch area. Oops, review asked for photos, but too late, demolished!

On a visit to Christchurch we came across this chip shop and thought we would have lunch , soon as we walked in the man who was cooking ,very friendly,said we wild eat in ,there small dinning area is very clean plus decorative,waitress was very polite,friendly and professional,BUT the fish and chip Was the BEST I have ever HAD,I have eat fish and chips all over England but is is the BEST ,thank you so much ! We are going to travel from Portsmouth to have fish and chips here again

I’ve been to a few fish and chip shops around the area but none compare to this one. The food is always delicious not to mention the staff are always friendly and polite, they are always smiling and very welcoming. The owner, ray, is very friendly and makes a clear effort to build relationships with his customers. Not only does he cook fantastic food, he also interacts with everyone and makes them feel valued. The batter is amazing and is not the same no matter where you go, every time I buy from the priory fryer it is golden and crispy and the chips are always perfect- a great mix of in between fluffy and crispy. The waitresses are all very polite and patient with customers and with each other which makes the atmosphere very comfortable to be around. The food is absolutely incomparable and service is constantly 10/10. They repeatedly prove they are willing to go that extra mile to make every customer feel happy. Highly recommend

Absolutely disgusted, came in and ordered food for my family following a 12 hour shift as a nurse, I sat waiting for my food and observed the two young ladies at the counter eating food with their fingers, wiping their mouths, and then serving our food.. I did point this out to who I believed to be the lead chef/cook.......needless to say after spending £40 on food nobody wanted to eat...DISGUSTING

We had a fantastic meal at Priory Fish and Chips. The fish was cooked to perfection - hot, crispy, and flavorful. The chips were also delicious, with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and fluffiness on the inside. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The cozy atmosphere makes this little restaurant a great place to enjoy classic fish and chips. We will definitely be back to Priory Fish and Chips next time when visiting Christchurch area. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Got takeaway was awful, cold food, chips were the worst chips I’ve ever eaten. Forgot some of our order then was rude when we rang up and told them, wasn’t willing to help at all! Would avoid at all costs

The only reason I'm giving two stars and not one is because the chips were passable, but honestly this place left a lot to be desired. The owners need to get to a real chippie, ideally in the Midlands, and learn the basics. A large chips was half the size of a small you'd get in Birmingham and double the price, and the quality was sub par in comparison. Same for curry sauce and mushy peas - portions were absolutely tiny, and the mushy peas were smashed minted peas. Fine, they're nice - but also not what I ordered. Scrimped on salt and vinegar, and the batter on the fish was limp, soggy, milky, insipid, flabby, flobby, generally bad. Seriously, go somewhere where the owners are less pretentious and charge less for better quality (it won't be hard).

We were staying in Christchurch and had a list of places and restaurants to visit and were so grateful to be given your name. What an Amazing fish and chip shop. We ate in and service was impeccable (didn’t get waitress name unfortunately) 3 ladies in their seventies who ordered extra tartare sauce! And had fish and chips and fish cake. The most delicious meal and everyone was so friendly even in the shop as we went out. Brilliant food. Highly recommend you…..

Was meeting friends and just wanted quick bite big queues and service was quite slow but mostly cooked fresh 2 order and the only chippy in main high st! Just had kids cod bites box 3x decent chunks fish small portion chips and a drink £5.30 was plenty for smaller appetites and nice to takeaway and sit by castle ruins&river

Overpriced and poor quality. £3 for a regular portion of chips! Which was tiny more like a small. Half the chips were overcooked, whilst the other half were undercooked. Super greasy definitely not fresh oil. Then curry sauce! £2 for that you get a tiny pot and it's so watery, nothing that I'd you expect from chip shop curry sauce and had little flavour. Sorry nice people can't fault that but all round aweful food and prices wouldn't waste your money, there's much better chip shops out there

Incredible! The crispiest chips, staff are so lovely and efficient. The batter on the fish is so crispy and light! Would give more stars if I could, curry sauce and mushy peas were incredible and all food is made fresh to order. No wonder they’re so busy! Waited 10 mins for an order of 8 meals which is so well worth it, short turnaround times and impeccable service. Must must MUST try!

Came in today for lunch with some freinds who came down to Christchurch for the day. Sat in the restaurant to eat, greeted by a few staff members/waitresses who were ever so friendly & polite. I had the cod & chips which is my usual from a chip shop, food arrived hot & oh my god how delicious it was, the chips were amazing aswell as the cod, cooked to perfection. Even my friends said how amazing the food was as I recommend to come here for lunch & it didn’t disappoint. I will be recommending you guys to people looking for a good fish & chip shop to eat at 😊

Not “fast food” I waited 20mins for my meal, it was just me and one other person in front of me. Never have I ever waited that long for a portion of chips and a pea fritter. I sat and watched my pea fritter dying for 15mins as the team proceeded to push my order back to continue with the home delivery orders first. I got my meal, it was cold, chips were hard and sharp and the curry sauce was so thick, I was very disappointed. After reading the reviews I was so exited to give it a go but seems I haven’t been missing out.

Certainly the only place to go for fish and chips. We ate in and although it was a tad slow due to loads of take outs. It was certainly worth the wait. Beautiful fish and batter just right not over powering.

Quite literally the best fish and chip shop in the county. Not cheap, but well worth every penny - and I'm fussy! Can't believe how much we both ate. Big portions, all cooked fresh, friendly service and a great selection on the menu. Really friendly staff and owner too. Definitely go there!

Good piece of tuna in breadcrumbs, but maybe cos it was late evening the oil it was fried in migt have been a tad stale, but nothing too bad. Friendly service.

Really disappointing. Not sure if the staff was new but they were running around like it was a really busy service only three tables had customers. Everyone has to learn. The food really poor. I had cod they take it off the skin. I like the silver skin. So doing this means it came up all twisted and not flat and hardly any fish it was all batter which was not the best. Rest of my family liked the chips again not a fan no flavour. The Rock was really watery. Wish I had said something to the owner but never mind. Really expensive too. Dont worry on holiday so not going back xx

Having never eaten here before, my wife and I decided to get a fish meal before we went to the Regent Centre. I can honestly say that this was probably the best fish we have ever had. We shared a cod and a rock and both were cooked to perfection. The batter was golden and crisp and no soggy bits anywhere. Well done Priory Fryer

Husband had large cod and chips and I had the cod chunks with chips, can only say scrumptious, beautifully cooked and very fresh tasting, can only add one piece of advice, go hungry, servings are very generous.

Decided last minute to have fish and chips from my favourite place to take home. I eat gluten free so I can have this on a Weds. Its always great from here but last nights was soooo good and tasty I had to write a review. Gorgeous fish and chips with a pea fritter too. Batter was perfect. Always lovely and friendly and quick service too. I don’t have it very often but you never disappoint when I do! Thank you Priory Fryer.

I ordered onion rings and then the beef burger MEAL after waiting for 45 minutes for it to get to the door I find the onion rings and then one other item the burger WHERES THE CHIPS when you state something as (meal) that means it comes with chips not just the burger thanks for ruining my evening with your false advertising
