The smacks were hard , so was the peas and the fish was soggy cos it was in between the gravy and peas

Giving the occurrence below the benefit of doubt, I gave the place another go today (04/07/2024), but unfortunately, no change. Fish was dry, again looking like its previously frozen. Chips this time were overcooked too looking slightly burnt. I didn't get a clear answer from the owner last time if they are using previously frozen fish which would explain what we have found on the last couple of occasions (the answer was just "it's exactly the same as always"), but I would think that previously frozen is the case here, which is a shame. There just doesn't seem to be many chippies round here that serve fresh fish. More than happy to be convinced otherwise. ---------- We've used this chip shop a few times (would be more but we've missed the short opening times a couple of times). Up to now, we've been very pleased with the quality of the fish and chips. The chips are crispy and the fish has always been fresh, with glossy flesh and lovely crispy batter. This is really good for the area as I'm very fussy with the quality of the fish and this is one of the chip shops which, in my opinion delivers on this. Unfortunately, there's a exception to the above.... On Friday 17 March, we ordered Fish and Chips x2 and a jumbo sausage. The service was good and efficient and I was on my way in less than 10 mins. Got home and found, again the chips to be nice and crispy and the batter on the fish the same. However, the fish was pretty poor and not up to standard. The flesh was dry, dull and lacking that glossy finish you get with fresh fish. I suspect, on this instance, that maybe previously frozen fish was used as this characteristic is seen when using frozen fish as once it's defrosted and then fried, most of the moisture is lost. My question to the owner would be have you begun to use frozen rather than fresh fish? Maybe due to cost ? Or is this (hopefully), just a one off?

Food was good but curry sauce was forgotten and the kids meals have no option to leave sauce, I thought it would come in a tub but doesn't which isn't good when some people have fussy kids that don't like any sauce, maybe change option to no sauce or put into a tub, also no option to have sausage chips and curry so costs more ordering separately

Chips could be better. Some were hard as they were mixed with freshly made ones.

changed delivery times about 4 times when finally arrived was cold wasn’t nice at all

nothing much to tell other than my daughter and wife like it so I don't get a choice . I find the quality of the chips to be extremely poor then again I have not had a decent chip shop chip at all in over a year today's were completely tasteless yet again.

food wasnt arrived , delivery driver called me ,sayed go outside, then i was outside cant find him there, no answer to phone calls. Delivery service the worst in all the world.

Lazy, did not even eat the food the gravy was put on top and underneath the fish, which made the fish soggy and wet. We ordered the gravy separately the mushy peas and fish had the same issue.

food is always hot but today's food just wasn't of previous quality. the meat and potato pie wasn't cooked the potatoes inside were hard. the chips were totally bland and tasteless. Service was quick but I have to say I think there has been another price rise which is now making us think our very regular Friday tea time order isn't looking positive going forward

Driver decided to go to Byrn which is opposite to my address. Then went back to the shop and spent a extra 20 mins there. With My food. So when finally arrived was a hour late. So food wasn't the best

Fabulous fish and chips here. Best I can remember having. Beautiful fresh and flaky fish, not too heavily battered. Perfectly cooked chips also. Well staffed so long queues, even at Fridays tea time. Staff were lovely and very friendly.

Apologies to Barry and the team, Previous review was aimed at Just Eat and not The Fish at Goose Green! This is the best chippy ever - massive portions and the nicest fish I’ve ever tasted.

I made a complaint to Just eat regarding the driver who made an attempt to put his delivery bag on the bonnet of my very expensive car, also the food had been spilt and dropped out the bag and was ruined. The food is always of the best quality from this take away and the response I got from just eat was to leave a negative review for the take away as that apparently use a private delivery company. I’m not prepared to leave a bad review for you but this has made me think about the customer se

Excellent food, delivered promptly and always piping hot. Only question is why is there a 10p charge for a paper bag + £1.49 delivery charge + £1.99 service charge? I appect the delivery charge but I don't think there should be a charge for a paper bag and not sure what the service charge is for? This isn't applied if you go into the shop and it's the same method of packing - just something to think about as its an additional £3.58 on top of the food price.

New to Wigan and found a chippy we love. Lovely fish and chips and friendly delivery driver.

Although the order came on time, they didn't give clear indication on ordering things separately and therefore I spent £22 on pudding, chips peas and gravy and 2 pies but when I contacted them directly I was greeted with a very arrogant and cocky manager who did nothing to rectify the issue so based upon the horrific customer service I will not be making any more orders I will stick to Yates chippy thankyou !
