The Fish At Goose Green in Wigan

Have been eating here for years but lately it appears to have gone down hill. Portions have got smaller. Ordered a Large fish and chips this week which i thought myself and mother in law could share, when we got home and opened the paper we was shocked to see how small the fish was and it wasnt enough for one of us let alone two!!! Sadly thats the last time any of our family will eat from there. Time to find a new chippy!

our meal was pre ordered around 4pm, first delivery estimate 4.30 pm then 4.45pm then 4.56pm finally arrived 5.25pm. I have never had a late meal before from this chippy, the meals have always been of top quality, this time it was warm and the batter on the smacks was soggy, just not the quality I expect from this chippy.

very average taste wise but to be fair the chips across all chip shops of late are rubbish. arrived hot and on time other than that nothing special. noticed the prices have gone up again. I think soon they will price themselves out of the market. nearly £11 for pudding chips peas and gravy is a lot to pay by anyone's standard add in a service charge of nigh on £3 it's fast becoming out of reach.

Mixed review. Fish & chips good. Scampi went in the bin, it was terrible. I ordered large curry sauce & gravy, they didnt come in pots as expected, they were poured on the fish & chips, very watery. Delivery was quick and driver pleasant. £18:50 all in. I wont be ordering again.

The smacks were hard , so was the peas and the fish was soggy cos it was in between the gravy and peas

We use this chippy and delivery service every Friday. They are the best at what they do. Guaranteed excellence week after week.

Giving the occurrence below the benefit of doubt, I gave the place another go today (04/07/2024), but unfortunately, no change. Fish was dry, again looking like its previously frozen. Chips this time were overcooked too looking slightly burnt. I didn't get a clear answer from the owner last time if they are using previously frozen fish which would explain what we have found on the last couple of occasions (the answer was just "it's exactly the same as always"), but I would think that previously frozen is the case here, which is a shame. There just doesn't seem to be many chippies round here that serve fresh fish. More than happy to be convinced otherwise. ---------- We've used this chip shop a few times (would be more but we've missed the short opening times a couple of times). Up to now, we've been very pleased with the quality of the fish and chips. The chips are crispy and the fish has always been fresh, with glossy flesh and lovely crispy batter. This is really good for the area as I'm very fussy with the quality of the fish and this is one of the chip shops which, in my opinion delivers on this. Unfortunately, there's a exception to the above.... On Friday 17 March, we ordered Fish and Chips x2 and a jumbo sausage. The service was good and efficient and I was on my way in less than 10 mins. Got home and found, again the chips to be nice and crispy and the batter on the fish the same. However, the fish was pretty poor and not up to standard. The flesh was dry, dull and lacking that glossy finish you get with fresh fish. I suspect, on this instance, that maybe previously frozen fish was used as this characteristic is seen when using frozen fish as once it's defrosted and then fried, most of the moisture is lost. My question to the owner would be have you begun to use frozen rather than fresh fish? Maybe due to cost ? Or is this (hopefully), just a one off?

Food was good but curry sauce was forgotten and the kids meals have no option to leave sauce, I thought it would come in a tub but doesn't which isn't good when some people have fussy kids that don't like any sauce, maybe change option to no sauce or put into a tub, also no option to have sausage chips and curry so costs more ordering separately

nothing much to tell other than my daughter and wife like it so I don't get a choice . I find the quality of the chips to be extremely poor then again I have not had a decent chip shop chip at all in over a year today's were completely tasteless yet again.
