Very convenient hotel to catch the ferry to the Orkney Islands with comfort. Although there were only two of us, we had a family room on the ground floor as it was the only one left when we booked, and we found it very dated with damaged furniture and uncomfortable mattresses, as well as quite noisy, but still clean.

Excellent location for those wanting to take the ferry to Orkney. We had a small, somewhat outdated but spotlessly clean room. The breakfast was excellent.

Tasty food with a great view over the harbour of Scrabster. Excellent service. There are a lot of steps up to the restaurant so would be difficult for someone with mobility issues going up steps.

Live locally, went for lunch. Had a burger which was just OK. Dining room was dark and dingy, table and chairs could have done with a good clean.

Simply… the best fries on a trip to Scotland… and that's saying a lot for a modest place, the rest is normal. A whole week of eating frozen French fries, as if it cost so much to make them well and this lady makes them wonderfully... it's so simple. Thank you for letting us eat them like you would eat them. Thank you.

The Ferry Inn in Scrabster is a true gem that combines charm, hospitality and stunning views of the North Sea. This inn, nestled in the picturesque fishing harbor of Scrabster, offers an unforgettable dining and hospitality experience. The panoramic view from the Ferry Inn is breathtaking. Large windows allow diners to enjoy a spectacular panorama of the bustling harbor and the sparkling waters of the North Sea. Whether you are seated inside or on the terrace, the natural beauty that stretches out before you adds an exceptional dimension to the gastronomic experience. Accommodation at the Ferry Inn is also delightful. The tastefully decorated and comfortable rooms offer a peaceful retreat after a day exploring the area. The proximity to the harbor, beaches and other local attractions makes it an ideal starting point for discovering the charms of Scrabster and its surrounding areas.

Disgusting rip off . Shabby bedroom with window facing a 20 feet high wall. Couldn’t see any sky ! Sink in the bedroom and tiny shower in the corner.Rooms advertised as “having lovely views to the Orkneys “ . We had a 20 feet high wall 8 feet from the bedroom window. Wife in tears after a very long drive. This room should only be a storeroom. So sad there are people like this living in Scotland fleecing the public.VisitScotland Tourist Board should take appropriate action. Charged £110 per night for this ! No reply to emails and letters asking for an apology and refund.Sums up these despicable people who should be made to stay in that room for a long period to reflect on greed and how to treat fellow humans in a decent manner.

I went for a meal here before taking the ferry to the Orkney Islands. The staff are very accommodating in cooking our food quickly so that we wouldn't miss the ferry. Unpretentious old school bar that is very good for a quick drink

Have stayed here a number of times now. It is in the harbour 1 minutes walk from the Northliknk ferry terminal for trips to the Orkney Islands. It is a no frills hotel with a really good restaurant. The food is good quality and staff are friendly and professional. Rooms are clean and well presented, all the usual in room items are present (kettle, coffee, tea bags, milk, tv, ensuite- towels, shower gel etc). Breakfast is fabulous - full Scottish everytime, but there are healthier alternatives too. Breakfast times are suited to the early morning ferry service. I will be staying here again and have no hesitation recommending it.

📞📵Looks like a lovely place but they struggle with communications - chiefly not answering the phone during opening hours and no voicemail. Beyond that, I’m sure the food and ambiance would be great.

The hidden gem of the NC500! If you're travelling through Wick, this is well worth a stop. It doesn't look much from the outside but the warm welcome, friendly banter and hospitality were all second to none. The barman couldn't hear enough about our trip so far and our plans for the next few days, showering us with recommendations and helpful tips. The love for the tourist was almost overwhelming, and the staff went out of their way to set us up on the WiFi, to lend us a phone charger and to handmake us their speciality house cocktail (ask for Ralph, with a knowing wink - he makes a mean martini). I'd advise calling ahead to book and make sure there's space for you, especially if you're travelling in a large group. It felt like a home away from home and I can't wait to come back and raise a glass with the amazing locals and fellow tourists alike!

We are campervan-ers staying at the local campsite, a short walk down the river to Mackay's Hotel and restaurant. We'd read other reviews and were looking forward to a good meal after a day 'on the road'...and we weren't disappointed. We had friendly service from Graeme and Kirsty, who were prompt and attentive. We had the Cullen skink which was very tasty. I had chicken and my husband had fish and chips. Not huge portions but good quality, tasty food we very much enjoyed. I had local gin which was delicious. My husband had the only local ale on tap which was good. This is a relaxed environment, we did not eat in the bistro area but in a dining area which was fine. Thank you for a lovely meal and good banter.
