The View Restaurant in Highland

Spectacular, a truly wonderful experience.

The restaurant hall is very warm and annoyingly stuffy The food tastes less than normal, and the prices are very high The view is beautiful, but I could not find a reservation during the day, so they made my reservation at 8 o’clock when the sun had set, and I did not enjoy the experience at all.

The view is unbeatable, the service impeccable and the food? My favorite meal between Scotland to Iceland. Oh and so vegan friendly, if we ever make our way back it would be worth the 5 hr drive to Skye to eat here again

Just loved The View for our first night's dinner (of two) in Portree. Firstly, the view was truly amazing ! You could also enjoy drinks on the lawn and enjoy the view at the same time. The service and ambience was fitting with the first class establishment it is and the quality of the food both met and exceeded expectations. Wait staff were holding up the highest standards and The View did not disappoint. 10+/10 !

The view was lovely. The food was fine. Nothing amazing but perfectly okay. And our server was warm and friendly albeit a bit disconnected from our experience (like we had to point out that drinks hadn’t come - and hubby stole cutlery from the nearby table so I could eat the main course). But the vibe in this place is disconcerting. Firstly… the lights are bright like in a cafeteria and they never seem to dim. Secondly… it was hotter than a Caribbean beach. And most oddly… it felt impossible to get drinks. Took us about 15 minutes to get hubby a beer and me a glass of wine. Second round required deliberately asking - twice - then reminding the server. Again. The view is nice. But it’s quite a trek up to this place and it felt like we were eating in an expensive version of the cafeteria at a senior home.

The View lived up to its name. We felt like we were in Hawaii looking at the beautiful vista overlooking the bay with flowers and gardens all around us. And the view from inside the restaurant was just as nice from our table. The staff was very professional and the food was excellent. Our favorite part was the sticky toffee pudding. The best we had in all of our travels around the UK. Warm and rich as it should be. When you want a special night out in Portree, go here but make sure you make a reservation.

5 Stars - Bookings available online, dinners were booked out a week in advance but we got a reservation same day for lunch. The grilled Hake was one of my favorite dishes of the entire trip. Price was 30 pounds per person for a 3 course lunch. The views were incredible.

Good restaurant with good service and on par with the hotel. A shame that it is so hidden and not known more. They should mark it a little more.

Had a reservation for 2:30. Arrived 15 minutes late because we got delayed on the trails in the morning. Called ahead and was told we would be seated if we arrived within 15 minutes. Arrived on time and was told the kitchen closes at 2:30. They said they tried to call us but neither of us had any missed calls. Disappointed.

Great place with beautiful views of Portree Harbor. Food was great. Came here for my girlfriend’s birthday and our server, Eden, did an exceptional job. Had a wonderful evening.

Super fine food with an impressive view.

Enjoyed dinner here. Food was excellent, dining room had beautiful views across to Portree. Shout out to the maître d', who was super kind, funny, and accommodating when we showed up to this nice venue muddy and a bit disheveled from a day hiking on Skye - it set the tone for the meal and made us feel welcome.

Excellent experience, our best lunch of the whole week in Scotland. In addition to the magnificent view and the serenity of the place compared to the flow of tourists from the center of Portree (we are only 10 minutes away on foot), the service is friendly and the food excellent. The menu is limited (3 starters / 3 main courses including 1 vegetarian / 3 desserts), seems to change every week and is perfectly executed. All for a very reasonable price (£30 for a 3-course menu). Really worth doing!

This restaurant could not be more aptly named 😍! We were lucky enough to have a later booking and got a table for two by the window. We dined overlooking a beautiful garden, the sea, and the banks of Portree. The inside of the restaurant is stunning as well. To get to the dining area, you walk passed a foyer with large leather couches and a stoked fire, an elegant and well-stocked bar with a variety of taps, and floor to ceiling picture windows that face the sea. The trio of artisanal breads and dips for two was a delicious way to start, and the wilted greens with pappardelle in a white sauce and chicken supreme as a main were a lovely way to finish. A great moment of gastronomy with a superb view. We enjoyed the prepared crab and brioche, then a fish and venison dish. The Scottish cheese plate was also very good although the biscuits are no substitute for a piece of bread. The brownie was rated very good too. We highly recommend even if the prices are not given.

Great view obviously as the restaurant name suggests. Everything was perfect expect the risotto was bland I wouldn’t order again unless I am a vegetarian.

We were just at the restaurant, not the hotel. The food was amazing! Tasteful and lovely flavors, and well-composed dishes. The staff was really attentive, and so sweet an pleasant. The best service we have experienced during our travels! As the name of the restaurant suggests, the view was outstanding. Of all the places we have eaten in Scotland so far, this has definitely been the best one. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. The photos are only of some of the dishes we had.

Super delicious gluten-free meal with a fantastic view. They certainly thought about the allergens, because without asking extra they came up with a gluten-free sandwich as a starter. Definitely recommended for those who want to enjoy a wonderful view with delicious gluten-free food.

First of all- get the Trout entree. One of the best main dishes I’ve had. To the point, and every bite was amazing. I saw some reviewers saying portions were small, I left stuffed. It was so good though I felt like I wanted more. We got a few starters because they looked good, and they were. We also got the toffee pudding and s’mores brownie dessert- both very yummy. Had walked in expecting nothing because it was simply a convenient place to eat for us, and left very happy. Get a couple starters- get the trout- and enjoy a very good meal.

Posh restaurant with a beautiful view of the harbor. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was delicious! Favorites included the asparagus appetizer, loin of venison, ocean trout and the s’mores dessert. The highland old fashioned was the best cocktail I’ve had in Scotland to date. Pricey, as expected, but a nice spot for an upscale meal with friends or significant other.

The view is incredible. The food sucks. My beef was overcooked and 42 pounds. The French fries with truffles had no truffles. The dauphine potatoes were dry. EDIT: They read my critic here and removed the fries spend and decreased to half the beef. That's what I call amazing service!! Everything in the hotel expect the restaurant was incredible.

Excellent restaurant in Skye. As the name suggests, it has a wonderful view on the sea. There is a large garden where you can enjoy a drink before dinner. Restaurant is very nice and the staff is welcoming. All the dishes were very good. The check was appropriate for the quality of the dinner. I was very satisfied with my dinner. If you are in Skye you should try to book a table at this restaurant.

Food was great, service was great, view was incredible and really reasonably priced considering. A wonderful stop to breathe and enjoy a good lunch amongst the chaos of trying to experience and enjoy everything about Skye.

This place is spectacular in all respects - service, food, and an utterly gorgeous space. Best white wine-steamed muscles I have ever had in my life, and lovely sandwich menu for lunch. Creative (and very tasty) wine and gin list. The view of the harbor and gardens enriches the whole experience, and service is just genuinely friendly. 100% worth a meal (or two!) and we will definitely be back next time!

I have no idea how this restaurant isn’t higher rated, it is the best dining experience in Portree. The view from your dining table is simply one the best views you will have in your life. We expected this place was all about the view, and the food perhaps wasn’t great. We were wrong, my wife’s lemon pasta was outstanding. The beef dish was pretty good as well. Sticky Toffee, Yes please. The restaurant, like every restaurant in the world right now, seems a little understaffed, but the waitstaff worked hard and turned out a very good service product. It’s fairly priced for what you get.

Have been here several times, food is great as is the service, beautiful view out the window when it's not misty, really like the real fire.

We came in to celebrate a birthday, but unfortunately the restaurant either missed the memo or they don’t usually do anything for celebrations. We tried a number of cocktails as well, but most of them were a lot on the sour side (not very well balanced imo). The food and view were amazing though. I would go back just for the chicken and the view at sunset, but definitely not for celebrations.

What a wonderful evening! We had reservations and showed up a little early to have a cocktail. The bartender was absolutely lovely and made us some delicious dirty vodka martinis (I had been craving one while in Scotland but that's not a common drink there) We sat in the parlor and enjoyed the view of Portree while we waited. The food, wine and service were all fabulous as were the espresso martinis for dessert. We. plan to stay here next time we come to Skye.

Our group of three really enjoyed the food and wine options here during a recent dinner. Views around the property are very nice. Service left much to be desired and is not commensurate with a 5-star hotel. A bit pretentious, impersonable and unresponsive. Perhaps guests of the hotel get better treatment so I’d only recommend a meal here if you are staying - otherwise there are better alternatives that are equally nice and delicious in town.

Not many vegan options but wasn't a large menu however there was starter main and desert. All amazing. Quite expensive but you get what you pay for and the food was excellent - so was the view.

All the dishes were very good; breakfast was also nice

Portions were tiny. Probably one of these places that either want to look cool or want to save money. The chef forgot to put the asparagus in the "pasta with asparagus". Obviously not paying a lot of attention. Then sent them to me in a bowl. Service at the bar was good, but not at the restaurant itself. Waiters forgot to bring water and dessert.

Beautiful restaurant in the Cuillin Hills hotel. Great service and we felt well taken care of.. we had the beef Shin and the chicken dish with the bread platter for 2 as an appetizer Breakfast is included. Nice selection of hot and cold items. Great service as always. We had the Traditional Scottish breakfast and Warm Waffles with syrup, bacon and mixed berries. Tasty!

This is now my #2 favorite restaurant in the world, right after a *** spot in Spain. The food, views, and service here are absolutely impeccable - it is without question my favorite restaurant on Skye (I ate several dinners every night I was there). Jon deserves the highest praise for the best service ever! His professionalism, excellent recommendations, and graciousness really stood out and was a top reason why this made my entire trip to Scotland great.

Very friendly welcome and service, the dishes are good and well presented. Once again, like everywhere, it closes very early, we were (again) the last seated while the waiters prepared the room for breakfast Tables of 2 often face the beautiful view. Reservation almost obligatory, even when sleeping on site, it's busy (and this, even out of season)

Tbh, the food is really basic. The menu is super limited. Soup of the day literally 8 pieces of tiny fish cubes. I had fish soup in Oslo, it tasted completely different. I guess UK is not famous for good food.

Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Provides beautiful picturesque views of the town of Portree. Both the breakfast and dinner were fantastic. For dinner, we ordered the whole fish and steak specials. Both were cooked perfectly. The sticky toffee pudding was divine. The best we had in all of Scotland. Service was attentive and friendly. Their mixed berry waffles for breakfast were so good!

Server was nice. Got the isle of Skye venison. The meat Was well cooked and well seasoned. The rest of the dish could’ve been more flavorful and seasoned. Also came out kind of cold. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding which was very good! Warm and not too sweet! Very well baked.

The service and food at The View is worth every penny! I can see why it’s so hard to get into the restaurant. It’s really special when the restaurant in a hotel is excellent, and the hotel is excellent as well. This is definitely the case here!

This restaurant is in an amazing location with a stunning view of Portree. We made a reservation around sunset & the sights were breathtaking. We enjoyed our meals however service was a little slow. They seemed to be understaffed as our server had what looked to be all of the tables in our section & we didn't see him very often. Service was not bad however for the price of the meal, we would have preferred to be checked on for drink refills, etc. We had to ask for our check more than once before we got it & were able to pay. We truly believe this service experience was likely a one-off as the hotel & restaurant appear to be very high quality.

Reservation required. Wonderful upscale dinner in Portree with vegan options, with a lovely view of the water and the colorful houses down below. I had a delicious vegan sweet potato steak type dish and it was beaitully prepared and very flavorful! A fantastic option to end the day and they understood vegan options very well.

Our first dish arrived nicely on time, one was warm the other one was cold, then we had to wait for 1 hour to get our second dish, the Yorkshire pudding was slightly burnt, the meat was very nice but the veggies were bad, with almost no gravy. We had to wait another 30 minutes to get our dessert, it was quite nice but at that stage, we just wanted to leave! 2 hours in a restaurant not because we wanted but because the service was badly organised.

Went for lunch at 12:45. Continually forgot we were there. Ended up taking more than two hours. First course wasnt too bad, and the second course was forgotten for 45 minutes & was part burnt. Apologies were given for late delivery, and then they forgot about dessert until prompted finally arriving 23 minutes after that. The dessert did taste excellent, but all in all, the service was terrible and so was the majority of the food.

En ganska exklusiv restaurant ca 15-20 min promenad från den lilla hamnen. Man förstår varför den heter The View-då den genom stora panorama fönster har utsikt över hamnen och de färgglada husen och småbåtarna. Mat och dryck var utsökt och servicen mkt bra. På tillbakavägen var det mörkt och då "lyste" småbåtarna och speglade sig vackert i vattnet

Aptly named, this restaurant has a beautiful view of Portree and the service was exceptional. I also give it 5 stars for being one of the only (if not the only) place in Portree with an entire vegan/vegetarian menu. Although the food wasn’t perfect, this was a delight to discover.

Service was friendly. Slightly on the slow side, but not as slow as some others have suggested in their reviews. Food was quite tasty, and for the price it was overall a decent lunch.

Lovely restaurant and wonderful service and really nice view. Unfortunately, my partner ended up with food poisoning after visiting here which sadly affected the rest of the holiday.

Absolute perfection in service, atmosphere, dining and comfort. The view is the Chantilly cream on top! Note to pedestrians: The hotel and restaurant are atop a fairly rigorous grade, so this isn’t easily walkable for some.

Decent place for a wanna-be toff to burn their disposable income with a view. If paying through the nose to go away hungry isn't you're thing then eat anywhere else in Portree. I recommend the pizzeria.

Location is just outstanding, with an incredible view on Portree. The food is good and well cooked, but honestly it should serve slightly bigger portions (the one we received were more in line with the one served during a 6/ 9 courses menu). Service is ok, not perfect though. Surely recommended.

I want to give The View 5 stars. The atmosphere and amazing view right away set the tone for a beautiful spot. We were staying at the hotel attached and ended up eating here on two separate occasions. Both times the food was very good, however you could tell that there was a slight drop in quality on the second evening. I expect that consistency across chefs may not be there yet. Additionally, the service although very kind folks can be pretty slow and inattentive. Be prepared to wait a bit for menu items or requests. If you can get over that part, the view and food quality are writhing your time. Had the Sticky Toffee Pudding on our last night in Portree - one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Amazing food and spectacular views

Couldn't see the view because it was dark by the time we got here, but I'm sure it was great. The ambiance was nice, but everything else did not meet expectations. The server was friendly enough, I suppose. But the food was truly terrible. The lamb neck appetizer tasted alright, but it failed to delight. The special for the day was a ribeye steak which was served with a mushy tomato, two measly pieces of broccoli, and soggy homemade potato fries. The steak itself was good sized and adequate, no more no less. The salmon from the regular menu was topped with a toe sized deep fried roll of crab that completely ruined the taste of the crab meat. It was also topped with caviar that was sour and pasty. The salmon was simply pan fried, which would have been fine if it wasn't drowned in a tangy, saucy soup that contradicted the flavor of the salmon and amplified the bad taste of the caviar and the pointlessly deep fried crab roll. Prices were equally disappointing and disproportionate to the quality of the food. The majority of good reviews, upon closer look, were from about 2 years ago.

My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary tonight and were really excited about dinner at The View. Overall I’d say the location was beautiful, however our tomato appetizer salad had mold on the tomato. We let the server know, who was apologetic (he mentioned it was the new chefs first night) and said the manager would be out to speak to us, however no one turned up to apologize or speak to us. They did end up taking the appetizer off the bill, but it really did spoil our evening, and the lack of customer service was really disappointing. The drinks were great, and as mentioned the location was beautiful but at a restaurant like this (which is fine dining prices) we had expected better service for a moldy tomato salad

Good starters followed by poor service and disappointing main courses. Waiters were overwhelmed although the restaurant wasn’t full, some dishes and drinks took ages to come, and a side came when we were finished eating… Just not professional and definitely not what you would expect in a place like this 😔 On the positive side, the drinks at the bar were great! Note: in the end, the hotel removed the price of the dinner from our bill. A nice gesture, greatly appreciated!

This restaurant was brilliant, the view was beautiful, table next to the window looking out onto the lawn, the water, and the mountains. The food and drink was delicious and full of flavour. The staff were very professional and helpful. Definitely recommend, and will be going back soon!

Pessima cena!!! Abbiamo ordinato il rombo che era uno dei piatti più costosi ma la porzione era piccolissima ed era immangiabile in quanto eccessivamente piccante. Il servizio al tavolo inoltre é stato molto lento e i camerieri non sono stati per niente amichevoli. Per non parlare poi del dolce, una fetta minuscola di comunissima cheesecake al prezzo di circa 11euro!!! Davvero eccessivo!!!! Pessimo!!!!

Pésimo servicio de atención al cliente y peor calidad de la comida. Pedimos el pez turbot, el plato más caro entre los platos principales que resultó insignificante (sólo habían espinas), acompañado de una salsa demasiado picante que destruye la armonía del sabor. No es algo que te esperas considerando que se trata de un restaurante que pertenece a un hotel de 4 esrrellas, y el precio elevado. Lo único bueno son las vistas, pero no merecen la pena por la experiencia gastronómica.

Everything was dismal, from service to food. The portions were really small compared to the price we paid and they were not so good either. The venison was stringy and we had to throw away half of the turbot because it was full of bones. The service was very slow and the staff was unfriendly and unattentive, we waited a lot of time to be served and the restaurant was only half full. They were quick to bring us the check though. This is not the kind of service and quality you expect from a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. The location and the view are nice but it is not enough, there are definitely better places in Portree.

The view is astonishing and the staff is quite friendly. The fish and chips are so amazing, the batter is super chirpy but not oily. The tartar sauces seems home made, it’s very tasty. There are some local beers in the restaurant. Last but not least, there is vegetarian options which is really good in Portree, because there are not many vegetarian options in Portree

A éviter - belle vue mais piège à touriste Nous avons pris du turbo pour changer du fisch & chips 30€ l’assiette une tranche d’un centimètre env 50g dans une assiette de soupe et le reste tout a fait moyen Réponse du responsable le prix ont augmentés donc le chef a à réduit les portions .. Je ne sais pas comment ils ont pu être au Michelin ..? Ne faites pas attention aux photos pas de langoustines pas de crabe.

I just wanted to start by saying that the food tasted great and the view was beautiful. However, we did run into some service/communication issues. It started when I first found a fly in my food; we were told the manager would come discuss this with us, however that never happened. We also had an issue with our dessert, but once again never got the chance to discuss it. My boyfriend and I are both students at Uni so going to a nice restaurant such as this was a big deal for us and a celebration for my birthday. However, we were disappointed in the fact that we saved up for such a big meal to not be taken seriously when trying to report an issue in the nicest way possible (I have worked in the food industry before so I am usually very understanding with mishaps). After paying the bill in it’s entirety, we once again tried to communicate that the issue was never resolved, but was once again got brushed off. While we both understand that accidents happen, it wasn’t the fly in the food that bothered us, but rather the way it was handled. It was a upsetting to pay for such an expensive dish that contained a bug on a special occasion with no attempt of reconciliation.

We had a reservation months in advance for lunch and the morning of our reservation we arrived at the restaurant and were told due to a kitchen malfunction everything was cancelled. While I understand they can’t control a malfunction, there was no apology or offer to find another booking in Portree. Everywhere was booked and we simply had to leave after driving hours to arrive.

Overall a very good dining experience. The braised pork starter was very nicely cooked and presented well. Venison and Steak mains were all technically good but not mind blowing. All items were correctly executed and cooked although I wish the dishes were a bit more aggressive in seasoning or ingenuity as they were all a bit tame in regard to flavor. No actual complaints or errors on the entrees but nothing to rave about. Luckily the sticky toffee pudding was fantastic and was the best one we had throughout our two week UK trip. Service was very very good and Ross(bartender) was amazing. 5 Star review is mainly due to service, dessert, and bartender as opposed to amazing food.

Only popped in for a drink while we were waiting for a table at another restaurant so unable to comment on the food but the bar staff weren’t the friendliest

What you pay for is the view out onto the water which to be fair is pretty deluxe. So I would say it’s probably worth it. The coffee was good too. However, the food was below average and overpriced for what it was. We ordered the sticky sweet chilli chicken wings which were not marinated - rather unseasoned chicken wings put into this sauce. Any chef knows this isn’t how you cook. We also got the burger and the beef brisket sandwich. The beef sandwich was the worst thing I have ever seen. It wasn’t brisket let alone edible beef. It was also in basic brown bread. So if you want good food, don’t go here. If you want coffee and a great view, yes I would recommend.
