Chargrill Restaurant Portree in Highland

This was a beautiful dinner the seasonal menu was fresh. The cod was wonderful and so large we could have shared. My favorite was the honey and lemon dessert with their dessert wine pairing. Just a wonderful experience overall.

We spontaneously got a table at 5 p.m. The food was very nicely presented and also tasted very good.

My favorite meal I had in Portree, the staff here were super attentive and were super understanding of my gluten and dairy allergies and helped me find something that I could eat, or could have substitutes. My whole family was happy with our meals and the service we were provided. The marmalade dressing on my side salad was super tasty, and I also had some of the best gluten free bread I've had given as a table starter.

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had. From start to finish every single course was incredible! They were very good at working with dietary restrictions and were attentive but not overbearing. Will 100% be back to visit again soon!!

A lovely meal. The service was outstanding as was the view. Thanks to the staff for squeezing us in early in the evening without a reservation (a rarity - plan ahead!). Steaks and excellent sides abound. Try the Negroni. Can’t go wrong here. Looking forward to returning.

Elegant restaurant inside the hotel. We eat mostly meat (very good) accompanied by interesting side dishes. The selection of drinks is excellent, especially whiskey and cocktails.

Came here for my 30th Birthday meal whilst travelling round Skye. Ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and the heritage carrots are a mist. The bread starter was impeccable too - although I do wish they had waited for us to finish the starter before bringing out the main, as was a little overwhelming having a full table. Staff were very attentive and certainly made the evening special.

Disproportionately expensive, and to make matters worse they sneak a 12.5% ​​tip into the bill. Better look for other options

Good restaurant with a nice atmosphere located in the Marmelade hotel just outside the center of Portree. Certainly not pub food, but well-prepared dishes from mostly local ingredients. Fast, friendly, especially young service. Good wine choice and delicious cocktail selection. Parking is free in front of the door. Beautiful views over the bay and Portree. Prices reasonable.

after some confusion, discovered you have to go into the hotel reception to get to the restaurant. we were turned away as we didn’t have a reservation so warning for others: reserve!!! too bad because we were really looking forward to the food , looks like a great place for vegans

Although the piece of meat was well cooked and good, the starters remained to be desired. A scallop cut in two and overcooked for £16 and the fried egg just placed on 2 asparagus and a few salad leaves and all without soul. The price is really excessive for everything. The service was deplorable apart from the butler. Almost balances the plate by pulling the head of the waitress, who is exasperated because a 12% tip added to the bill, which is not obligatory and which I did not want to leave, was excessive. In short, too overrated...

Our group had a fantastic experience. From the moment we came in, to the moment we left, it was such a warm welcome. The staff are friendly, attentive, professional and efficient. The food is excellent and everything was cooked to perfection! The mushroom side and truffle fries were a favorite. The drinks/cocktails are also delicious. Thank you so much for such a wonderful dinner! Be sure to get a reservation. We were able to get a booking the day before but the restaurant is small and popular.

Unfortunately, the food was not "cooked to perfection" - there were two of us eating with you and we got food poisoning. As we hadn't eaten anything else before, it could only have been at your place. We had cauliflower soup and chips with mayonnaise - we think it was the mayonnaise. We suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea and were ill for several days. So absolutely no recommendation from us!

We had the best dinner at Chargrill in Portree. The staff were lovely and welcoming, the restaurant design is beautiful and the food was delicious. The food was very well priced for how much we had, we left feeling completely full after a whole day of walking. Could not recommend enough!!

Overpriced. Underwhelming. The waitstaff are fresh out of school. One slid a dinner roll onto the table and proceeded to pick it up with his bare hands. The other junior spilled water all over the table as she was filling our water glasses and then proceeded to drop utensils on the floor. The food was descent but way out of line for subpar service. And to add insult to injury, they charged 3.5 quid for a pepper sauce to accompany a 40 quid steak. And then they added a service charge. Ouch!

We had a lovely steak dinner here. The restaurant itself - nestled in a hotel - is modern and beautiful, the food was great, and the servers were so sweet!

We had an amazing experience at Chargrill! Made a reservation for 6PM and had our pick of the tables so naturally we picked the table with this incredible view. We ordered the Sirloin steak & lemon chicken and both got hasselback potatoes and the walnut salad- everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. We even had room for dessert and went with the apple tartin and date cake, yum. Everyone was friendly, nice and attentive. Would recommend to anyone!

We had a lovely appetizer, but after an hour and a half waiting, we gave up and left with no main course at all. We watched all the tables around us get their food and be done, even though they came in after us. They told us 5 more minutes, but after 10, we were still waiting. The final straw was they told us our food was next, but then they brought food to another table that had come in well after us. So who knows if the food is any good? Terribly disappointing considering we had to go to bed with no dinner.

Everything at this restaurant was spot on, from the ambience and the service on to the excellent food. I couldn’t fault anything. The presentation was fantastic and nothing was overlooked. We got a lovely table by the window which made the experience even more magical.

Exceptional service and food! Notably the best service and food I have had since I have arrived in Scotland. I cannot say enough how amazing the two women serving everyone were, they were on point and never missed a thing. Everything was cooked to perfection.

The BEST steak dinner we’ve had in a long long time. We had an incredible dinner here from start to finish for my birthday. The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely on a quiet March evening. Our steaks were cooked to perfection with the most delicious chips ever. Dessert was delicious too! We found the prices incredibly reasonable for the quality of the food. The only downside? It’s too far away from our home in Cambridge 😂 Thank you Chargrill.

The food was really average, especially the ribeye steak (not aged and the quality of meat is under the question). Just isn’t worth it. The service was bad. They didn’t have all ingredients for the cocktail. First they asked to wait, then they asked to order another one. We ordered the another one, but never got it. And at the end we had the check with the first cocktail 🤯 Also we ordered the lemonade and again never got it. No apologies or something like that. Can’t recommend.

Refined place where you can enjoy very good and well-plated local food, the service is impeccable and the prices are fair. PS: the restaurant entrance is the same as the restaurant.

Very nice restaurant. Well-provided and interesting map. The meat and fish were slightly overcooked, which is a bit of a shame. Wide choice of accompaniments, but we select two, and they sometimes don't go with the dish... We have the choice but we must not make a mistake (or we should advise the customer).

We booked for dinner since it appeared to be quite tricky to find a restraurant without a made reservation. The restaurant is a hotel restaurant nicely furnished with a modern touch to it. The food was 10/10 very delicous. We had the wild mushroom soup, scallops, main was fish n fillet. They have a good and various drinks / wine card. The lady from the reception explained the menu ahead. We warmly recommend this restraurant which is located siltghly out of the centre of pontree. Dont forget to book in advance😉

Elegant restaurant but they accept you even if you are dirty, returning from an excursion and passing through 😅. To access it you need to enter the hotel, head left. The meat is very good. With a 'main course' there are two side dishes of your choice included.

Nice and neat restaurant with a variety of dishes for a variety of prices (from decently priced to quite expensive). Well services by staff. Haven’t had a better oyster than here, although I would loved tobasco, pepper and lemon to come with it. The Gael coffee for desert was lovely.

This was the best food experience we had in the Isle of Skye. Everything we ordered was delicious, including the sides and the bread/butters offered. The staff was friendly.

From the first minute the service was fantastic. The food was great, with the price tag to match which wasn’t actually unwarranted for the overall experience. We ate well. The only criticism I would have is the bar staff were noisy with throwing empty bottles in the bin every so often, disturbing what was otherwise a great atmosphere.

Definitely the best restaurant we have been to in Scotland. The quality/price ratio is exceptional, the dishes are delicious (typical but high-end, just look at the photos) and the service is qualitative! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are passing through Portree. PS: Remember to book!!!

Lovely restaurant in the Marmalade hotel. We had a good time there and the starter was excellent. For the main course we had the special Chateaubriand with Lobster Tail. The quality of the meat was really good but a place who calls itself Chargrill, you would think that cooking grades are always on the spot. We ordered our meat medium rare but unfortunately it arrived more cooked than medium which was the only downside in this place. Quite a major point though which should be corrected. Would we return? Yes we would as everything else was really nice.

We ordered vegetarian food on the menu. The grilled tofu and watermelon were just amazing! Prices were reasonable, staff were friendly, and the booking system was streamlined! Highly recommneded!

The service is excellent. There are options for vegetarians, and those who love French restaurants and seafood are suitable for them. I ordered pumpkin soup, cheese salad, and biscuits with beetroot sauce. I expected it to be better and it was small in size. We ordered a seafood plate of oysters and shrimp, which was delicious.

Our waiter was great. We had oysters and the scallop as appetizers. The oysters were fresh and the scallop was amazing. Now onto the bad part: for mains we had the 200g dry aged fillet of beef and the lamb chop which was the daily special. We waited ~25mins for the mains after the appetizer so the expectation was ok maybe good food takes time to cook. Well, guess what? The beef fillet was supposed to be cooked medium rare. It was NOT medium rare: it was so hard to cut through that I felt like the knife was blunt. Before jumping to conclusions, we sliced the fillet from the very middle: no pinkness to be found anywhere. It felt like as if the fillet was not defrosted properly or it was left somewhere to cool and then reheated. We let the waiter know this is not medium rare. The waiter was nice enough to inform the manager on duty to come over. We told the lady this was not medium rare. The lady responded: well this is dry-aged beef so this is what you got. Do you want to talk to the chef? We said no. How could you reason with the other party with such condescending tone and arrogance? The lamb chop was mediocre and overcooked as well. Maybe by “daily special” they meant particularly mediocre? To summarize: Food: 1 star for the scallop Service: 1 star for our server Atmosphere: no star After our experience, I do get the vibe that they discriminate non-white customers. So take that good rating with a grain of salt. And this is probably the worst “dry-aged” steak we have in a long time. Maybe the Michelin chefs should pay this place a visit because the dry-aged steaks we have had definitely tasted different. Who knows? It could be a secret sauce.

Food is good and price is reasonable. Each main comes with two side dishes. We were given a window table with good views to the garden.

We went there twice for dinner during our stay in Skye. The first night we were very impressed with all the dishes. However, the quality dropped quite a bit the second day (We went on Friday and Saturday so definitely noticed they did not taste the same both days!) Still would definitely recommend this place, the staffs were incredibly lovely and the nuance was very classy and cosy.

Just a hint for everyone seeking this restaurant. It is inside marmelade hotel. You can park next to the hotel and go to the reception and ask for the restaurant. Nice fancy and tasty dishes.

Food was superb we enjoyed Roast tomatoe soup followed by 200g steak with two sides creamy potatoes and asparagus and avocado. The service matched the food staff were attentive informative and very welcoming Highly recommend

Dishes here are amazing! The roasted pork loin we ordered was spot on; the pork’s tender and juicy and seasoned very well. The main dish comes with two accompaniments. My friend and I chose crab croquette, creamed potatoes, and truffle fries. All of them were delicious, especially the truffle fries, definitely the best fries I’ve ever had in my life. We also had some scallops for appetizer, which was great as well. The scallops and the peas were fresh and sweet. Furthermore, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the service was nice. Overall it was a highly recommended place if you go on a trip to Isle of Skye.

Fabulous. Hands down. Service was top notch. My husband & I loved our meal. The scallops (I didn't get a picture of) were sensational. We shared the beef, chefs kiss. Paired with cocktails & wine. Great dining experience in this town. Absolutely worth driving to.

Super delicious food. The hotel is so cute and the ladies at the front desk are so helpful. The restaurant was completely booked. We were offered the alternative of coming straight at 5:00 p.m. so we could still have a great evening. The portions are just right. Be sure to try the scallops

My wife and I went here a little while back and meant to review sooner. We traveled to Scotland for 7 days, and went to Inverness, Edinburgh, Glen Coe, and Portree. The Chargrill was by far the best dinner we had. The steaks were phenomenal and the sides were excellent as well. Everything was made perfectly. When we go back to Scotland, this will be our first stop. Thank you!

Lovely spot for a nice dinner and the staff went out of their way to make my husband's birthday special! When I booked I had mentioned it was his birthday, but I was still very surprised that the staff sang to him and put a candle in his dessert. Food was lovely. Honestly loved the side dishes so much I could have eaten a whole meal of those! Can't wait to go back next time we're on Skye.

This place is fantastic. The best meal we had on our trip to Scotland. We arrived without a reservation (worth noting that their online system does not take ‘day of’ reservations). They didn’t answer the phone either, but they had availability and were extremely welcoming. I think we had the best view in the restaurant too. It’s worth noting they are within the ‘Marmalade hotel’ so don’t be shy about entering the building. We ordered the 800 g Ribeye and had a host of side dishes. The wild mushroom and blue cheese millefleurs were amazing. The beer was well worth it, although not cheap. We highly recommend a visit here. The food, service and great wine selection made it the perfect place for our last night in Skye.

The only thing better than the bomb food was the stellar service. We went last night on the off-chance that they accepted walk-ins and luckily they could fit us in. It was my partner’s birthday and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Thanks so much - and good luck for your future bar opening! What a gem.

Wonderful evening meal. The menu was perfect to be able to select your main item and pair it to your own preferred sides ( which were delicious) was brilliant. Service was perfect too, attentive but not feeling rushed or hurried. Gardens were lovely to look onto and decor great too.

The food of very high standards and a plenty of parking nearby. Totally worth a visit and vfm. The place is on really high demand, so it's better to book in advance. On-line booking is avaliable and simple.

This restaurant is part of a hotel and offers the best grilled food I have ever eaten! I'm actually not a fan of grill restaurants because I don't eat much meat... But here, in addition to good meat and great fish, you can also try out more unusual variants, like grilled watermelon - very tasty! You can put together the unusual side dishes, toppings and sauces to go with everything according to your own wishes! Food intolerances are also no problem and the service is friendly and professional!

Great place! We arrived without reservation and we're turned away A person working up front came running after us outside after they had just received a cancellation. Nice space. Service was good, although a little slow. Wine selection was tasty but limited for glasses. Extensive for bottles. Little to no cocktails. The food was great! Awesome quality for the price. I had the tofu. It comes with three sides. They can make many of them vegan (just look out because some are not nearly as good when made vegan). They were good about describing exactly what could be vegan. I would go back again for sure.

We are in a different hotel each night of our 7 night visit to Scotland. Chargrill was our favorite for both dinner and breakfast! Amazing food!

We were there for dinner. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, everything is clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is significantly more expensive, but tastes really good! :) Our little daughter (1.5 years old) also had a lot of fun with the child-friendly staff. We really enjoyed it and we will definitely come back again!

Absolute gem of a find! I had baked figs to start whilst my husband had cauliflower and miso soup, absolutely delicious. We both had sirloin steak with the 3 sides (the mashed potato was definitely the winner there!) all beautifully cooked and tasty. No room for dessert unfortunately. Good selection of wines and the staff were excellent. Highly recommended

Amazing food and wonderful service

Lovely restaurant. Friendly staff who explained how the menu worked. Great selection of beers and gin. Getting three tasty sides with meal was fantastic. Only fault was my medium rare steak was very much medium cooked, bordering towards well done. But it was still juicy and tasted good.

Really good meal. All dishes were lovely and the mains were very generous. We shared a dessert of panna cotta flavoured with whiskey, it was subtle but soo tasty.

The restaurant has seriously good, local and authentic food, great service. The flavours are amazing, and you get a mountain of amazing sides with every dish. Perfect treat after a long hike on on the hills

Had a wonderful dinner and would certainly recommend to anyone. Especially, as the name might imply, carnivores (having said that there are an impressive range of veg options as well). The sides were every bit as good as the lamb, and the fact that you get three was an unexpected plus although it made dessert impossible... Plan ahead and get reservations because everything in this quaint town fills early.

It was a bit of a chaotic experience when we visited last night - the wrong food kept being served to tables with some extra sides and others missing. Steak was okay but overcooked - asked for medium and it came almost well done. Some of the sides are much larger than others. Couldn't get hold of anyone so had to go to the bar to get drinks. Desserts were tiny so didn't bother. Very expensive for what it is.

As a vegan I didn't think I would have much to eat at a steakhouse but I was pleasantly surprised with the menu having 2 vegan grill options and a bunch of sides to choose from. The tofu steak has been treated properly and marinated unlike alot of places so it's really flavorful, I had the broccoli tempura as a side which was a really good accompaniment and the side salad is amazing (genuinely). I would definitely check it out if you are vegetarian or vegan looking for a nice meal in Portree!

This was our first dinner on the island, we had an amazing night. Some local skye gin and a delicious steak. The sides were the winners for me. Garlic flatbread, tempura broccoli, pesto goat cheese tomatoes!

What an amazing culinary experience! We happened across here and I can’t say how happy I am that we did. The food and the people were both excellent! We liked it so much that we came back twice to try more things. This is an absolute must go if you are in the area!
