Took our autistic grandson to portaferry for the weekend and stayed in the School House , the 2 ladies were most accommodating . Had children’s cheese burger meal and my husband and I had chicken burgers and chips . The place is immaculate and has all the values of a proper traditional chip shop ! Had fish goujons suppers and scampi supper. Lovely and tasty. Will be back again.

Fish was terrible, and cost £7.30 chips very average.

With being in Portaferry you would expect the fish and chips to be pretty good sad to say defiantly not. I asked for a scampi supper and was bitterly disappointed to the stage I tried 1 piece of scampi and through the rest and the chips in the bin it was not what I would recognise as scampi as in a single prawn in batter or bread crumb it appeared to be chopped up mush in batter if anyone thinks this takeaway is good eat in either diamonds, Genoa Warrenpoint or Mc can’s in either newry Newcastle castlewellan you are going to be blown away I promise.

Tasty cowboy suppers . Will call again

EDIT...RECENT VISITS HAVE SEEN A MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT...IN FACT I WOULD GO AS FAR AS TO SAY THE FISH I HAD WAS REALLY GOOD AND THEIR GRAVY CHIPS ARE THE BEST.......Standard had improved but now its back to being the worst chippie in all of county down...chips like cardboard...tiny overcooked fish and a lot of reheated food....not enough staff to deal with the constant phone orders and walk in customers....very long wait on food...go to captain Jack's or drive up to kircubbin for a far better quality service....how does the ferry grill stay in business when it is so bad...

Normally love the food but recently chips were really bad, as if they had been recooked a few time EDIT - have been back loads of times since and chips are back to great standard

Got fish and chips this evening. Very disappointed the chips were way over done and cold. The fish batter was really burnt round the edges

Chips looked absolutely disgusting, cold, green, wrinkled up, tasted awful. How can you serve this standard of food to the public and get away with it???

Most horrendous chippy I’ve ever had. Chips forgotten alongside other customers orders (my partner had to go back to get the forgotten items). No ketchup given after asking several times for it. Chicken was not even a nugget just more of batter on its own,hard to bite into. Cod was horrifically dry. Wouldn’t recommend.

4. 5 stars because the food was soooooo tasty (and plenty of it too) but lost a wee half star for just how longggg it took to wait (even though it was sooo worth it!!!)

Delicious! Lovely staff, tasty fish, and my little girl loved her kids meal.

Tryed this place once when visiting portaferry.. sorry to say this place is disgusting,, the food is bad the chips are disgusting thankfully ill not be returning

takes too long , put absolutely no curry or gravy on chips, didn’t give the right change ,, any change at all for that , disgusting

Called into here on Friday and when I left and saw what I got for my money I felt like calling the police because I felt I was legally mugged. Fish was full of bones and batter was under cooked.scampi was no bigger than a marble (must have been shop bought from a store that sells frozen food like i**l**d)and the burger came with no salad just burger and bun.beware beware BEWARE.

Well worth the drive along the peninsula for their fish and chips, uncommonly good, not the cheapest but easily the best value anyway. the staff were prompt and served my food as I asked for. Highly recommended.
