Bob and Berts Newtownards in Ards

I was having lunch with my husband today, and we decided to eat here. How we are regretting that dodgy decision! . I ordered poached eggs on toast with bacon. I asked for.soft eggs, as I really don't enjoy eggs cooked any way other than really soft. I was assured theyde be soft. My husband ordered burger and chips. Our lunch arrived. If I had dropped the eggs onto the floor, they would have bounced back up. So I returned them. They came back around 10 minutes later. They were slightly softer than before, so I settled for them. The rest of the food had obviously been reheated in a microwave including the toast. It was all dried up and chewy. The toast was more like crispy bread, than toast. I had asked for 2 slices of black pudding at the beginning. It had also been reheated, and was dried up and crisped. The cost of the 2 bits of black pudding was £4 . I thought that was a bit steep. As for husbands burger and chips. He had 2 two ounce burgers topped with a cheese slice, and a handful of overcooked fries. This lunch experience almost spoiled our lovely day out. On the plus side, the staff were nice. Pleasant and friendly. Just think they definitely need to retrain or change their kitchen staff!

Attended recently with a friend at this local cafe. I ordered the all day advocate smash breakfast, which was delivered to me by pleasant and helpful staff. The dish was very tasty.

Expensive for what you get - coffee left an aftertaste. We were not sure whether the varnish on the tables was meant to be 'stressed' - we found it a bit sticky and wondered if it harboured germs! Toilets had no paper or soap :-C Staff very busy, some left us feeling we were imposing on them: while one girl was friendly and helpful unfortunately a male employee was quite curt and not helpful. Do not feel encouraged to return or recommend to others. Overall we were quite disappointed.

This place had really gone downhill! Had to ask for a table to be cleared so that I could sit down to take my coffee. Noticed an elderly gentleman in front of me who sat down at a table covered in dirty dishes. Staff member served his food to the table, left the dirty dishes and directed him where to pick up cutlery. Very slow and poor service. Furniture in dreadful condition. Coffee very poor. Not much going for it really!

Visited on a quick call for a coffee and tea take away . Give my order and the girl said be few minutes. Proceeded to sit down and wait and wait and wait while the girl who took my order refilled something . I waited 10 mins and then went back up to till while she was serving someone else who since came in . I said my order she said u order here to which I replied i did 10 mins ago !!! I then sat down again and watched her mouth the a fella who was working who then took a great stare at me !! Totally shocking customer service needless to say I won’t be back !!! Avoid if ur in a hurry

Visited on a Saturday at 12.00noon hoping to beat the lunchtime rush. It was a disaster! Waited 45.minutes on 3 bowls of soup?? Really, good job we didn't want a full meal. We finally gave up hope and asked for a refund which was duly given back by the manager without much of an apology. Won't be back!

Visited this morning and had coffee and cake which was fine but was most surprised to find that the toilets were next door in Menarys shop, upstairs. You have to get a code from the staff to punch in in order to open the toilet door. Bring your glasses as the keypad is small an hard to read! When I eventually got the door open I discovered that the toilet flush was not working and no toilet paper and the toilet was in a disgusting condition. The other one was exactly the same! I complained to a young male member of staff who couldn’t have cared less. He said to take it up with Menarys but I said that if they were for the use of their customers then it was their responsibility to ensure they were fit for use. Glad I wasn’t in a hurry or a wheelchair as I couldn’t see disabled access. I definitely won’t be returning!

We visited here on the jubilee weekend with my two daughters. It was obviously busy and even in the queue I wasn't sure but my daughter wanted to stay. The guy at the till was not listening to our order and started to ring it up before even asking me if I wanted anything. Every table was filthy with plates and food. We moved stuff to another table to sit down but even on the floor was an assortment of food, napkins and condiments packets. I had to remind a server three times would they please wipe down the table, which only happened when the food was brought, insuing in a juggle of plates of food and table cleaning. I went up times to get cutlery and asked for some twice for our food. The food was meh, seemed very reheated or something.... a mess of stuff on a plate. None of us wanted to finish. Every aspect of this restaurant needs retraining. Don't bother wasting your money, a very overpriced lunch.

Young lady shouts across counter. Kitchen will be 30 minutes. I would just like coffee and drinks for the kids. Shrug. Another customer pushes in and get served. I’m invisible. So patience. After being invisible for 5 minutes. Decide to leave. Really bad service. Can’t comment on food.

Called in here for some lunch. Ordered 2 paninis and chips, coffee and a soft drink. Came close to £18. Unfortunately the panini was very dry and not particularly nice., also after eating them we noticed they were not as described. I think we will try other cafes in the town and give Bob & Berts a miss.

We ordered breakfast for two and took our seats. 20 minutes later we asked for update. 35 minutes after ordering the breakfast arrived but were both wrong. The porridge was a pitiful half cup of luke warm porridge but without the sultanas as ordered. The fried breakfast arrived with two items missing. A really poor experience, no one apologised nor tried to make things right. We will not be back there.

Almost £10 for this , never order take away from Here they will most definitely mess up your order every single time and the prices are ridiculous for the quality !

Ordered a ranch burger for takeout, got home , cut burger in half before eating (I always do with burgers ), and it was completely raw inside . When I took it back the counter staff was lovely about resolving it , but wouldn’t eat there again if they can’t even cook a burger !

Spacious and clean with friendly staff this place has a great selection for lunch. Large paninis,pancake stacks and tasty breakfast range served all day not to mention delicious sweets. Recommend the eggs benedict served on soda,topped with crispy bacon and hollandaise sauce,a tasty change from the normal fry up. Talking about breakfast frys the "Bobs Famous Fry" looked very impressive so will be back to try that next.

Dropped in today for coffee and a panini... excellent coffee and food ... despite other comments made...and well worth a visit!

Have been here few times and it’s consistently delicious Have tried few of the menu options and all have been very good Staff have been really helpful when noted juggling tray and buggy nothing was too much trouble Definitely be back

Possibly the worst cup of coffee I have ever endured. Bitter and burnt. Staff ok. And location fine. But never again.

Good place, delicious food. Staff friendly, helpful and always cheerful. A place to go on any dark November afternoon or any time actually.

My wife and I visited here for lunch and the vegetarian options were so limited that she had to order from the breakfast menu. The queue for service was long and the few staff there ignored us for ages while we stood waiting to order. Additionally, when the food arrived it was thrown together and poorly made. Not an enjoyable experience and we won't be back.

Amazing pancakes bacon and golden syrup - great way to start your day and more syrup available if needed - most important lol

This is such a lovely place , lovely choice of delicious food , but most of all totally & utterly staff that are amazingly friendly & caring , we are there very often , and would recommend to visit it

Have visited a number of times with friends - service is always professional and quite prompt but the menu is overpriced. I always get a breakfast stack which admittedly is satisfying but I have seen friends order burgers for high prices and have seen them be disappointed by the small portions and pathetic fries. Would not recommend this establishment to anyone, but there are worse places to eat.

I have never been to bob&berts before so I thought I would give it a try. No problem with the service as there was nobody waiting to be served. I ordered tea and a piece of carrot cake my favourite. The tea was fine but the carrot cake was far too sweet I can honestly say that it was the worst piece of carrot cake that I have purchased. As for the atmosphere there wasn't one I doubt if I will go there again.

My husband & I were here just before Christmas & had a great lunch of Hallion burger & Christmas GF chicken burger, with sweet potato fries. Really tasty & the coffee was lovely. The service was excellent & the place had a good atmosphere. However we called in yesterday for a late lunch & the place was almost empty (strange on a Sat afternoon??) & the man who served us was dour to say the least. No smile, no eye contact, not even a welcoming facial expression -nothing! Looked like he didn't want to be there & wasn't interested in serving customers. I ordered GF toast with smashed avocado & poached egg with no hollandaise sauce (as was on GF menu) £6.25. When it arrived the toast was rubbery, the avocado was under ripe & hard & both poached eggs were hard - not a runny yolk in sight. Quite horrible & disappointing. May call in again for a coffee but I won't be eating there again. My husband enjoyed his Hallion burger though.

One of my favourite breakfasts of last year had suffered badly from a change of management sometime before my review of September 2018 but I thought 'new year' - new chance and went for breakfast this morning. No luck.

Started coming to Bob and Bert's in june 2018, working round the corner it was a handy place for lunch. Seen it go from a great place to a total waste with in months.

This is the first negative review I have written. The visit this morning with my wife can only be described as an utter waste of time and money. Staff not attentive. Breakfast was cold. Service was slow. The toilets in Menary's and you will likely have to que up.

An average wee cup of tea. Staff seemed a little distracted, I'm still not sure how the guy gave us one drink from the receipt but not the other, I'm not sure small print on the receipt was a good excuse!!

We had the best milkshakes , they really were superb! The staff were friendly enough but not overly attentive . There were a lot of uncleared tables , we had to clear our own table before we could sit down !

Ordered TWO vegetarian frys , one for myself and wife. No sign of food for 30 mins. When food arrived it was wrong and had to go back. When it arrived it was greasy tasting and not pleasant. If I could rate 0 stars , I would.

I have enjoyed coming into this cafe since it opened. But since the new manager has came it has gone downhill. Having to wait long time on food and not enough staff on. The girls are doing their best. Came in today with my family got two toasties bread was only toasted on one side. The guy who was the manager didn't even use gloves. His appearance was very scruffy for a manager and not very clean. Only one staff on who was the manager other girl was in doing dishes. The guy came out with food for another customer who was the chef had a dirty scarf on his head his beard left uncovered not very hygienic. He himself eas very dirty looking. As I said all the girls are fab well presented and polite. Whatever happened to the last manager she was brilliant always smiling place looked well and staff morale was great. Don't think I will be back until something is done about the current manager and chef.

In the past the staff have been friendly and proud of the food served. (and justly so)

Had a bad experience first time I visited but gave it a second chance. Wrong decision. Both times the quality of food, service and seating area were disappointing. There is certainly a good choice of breakfasts but the cooking was not good, potato bread and soda bread were limp and unappetising. The bacon was rubbery and chewy. Considering the time we had to wait for the food I would have expected it to be freshly cooked instead of what was served both looked and tasted as if it had been waiting some time to find a willing recipient. Staff not interested if food was enjoyed or not. Tables are not cleared in a timely manner, the seating is grubby. At 10.00am the floor certainly not look like it even started the day clean. Food on the floor was noticed and left by service staff.

Lovely foods and beverages. Staff are very helpful and it's a great wee place to chill out with a friend

Tried this place in Ards recently. Poor.. Not staffed properly and as a result, tables dirty, floor dirty, staff uninterested, and the coffee was weak and milky, not reccommended. To be honest, this is similar to the one i visted earlier in the year in Ballymoney, it was the same. looks be a trend ..Avoid if you can .

We went here for our lunch on Saturday.it was very nice and the service was quicker than usual. The food was delicious and the staff were very pleasant. Will definitely be back.

The food was alright though it was sullied by having to go and ask to get the previous customers left overs cleared away - which the wait staff mostly just brushed onto the floor. Then, my partners meal was delivered very promptly and he was long finished by the time mine arrived! We were just about at the stage where we were going to ask if they had forgotten about me - we will not be rushing back. Quite expensive for a fairly standard brunch and poor service.

Gave this place a try in Newtownards, as my previous experience of Bob and Berts in Ballymoney was poor, dirty, and service was poor.. I thought maybe Newtownards branch would be better. How wrong was I.. just the same.. dirty floors, dirty tables, slow service, cups and plates left on tables, found it difficult to get a clean table to sit and have our coffee.. even the coffee was poor. I wont be back.

I found the website of the Port Stewart location of this restaurant while researching my trip with my Dad to Northern Ireland. We didn't get to that one but saw one in Newtownards and went for lunch. I LOVED the atmosphere as soon as I walked in, something about the tables and the high ceiling, the lighting, the length of it, something. The random connection to the home store next door was never explained (except they shared a bathroom?).

Really nice cup of coffee and the sweet potato fries are lovely. This cafe/ restaurant has loads of burgers and they all look super tasty. Not a massive veggie / vegan range however but the coffee is really nice and the staff are super friendly

I frequently visit bob and berts

I usually go to Bob and Berts on the Lisburn rd after work for a quick bite before I go on out. I was shopping in Ards today and decided to stop for a snack. I'm vegetarian, had baked potato and 3 potions of very tasty sides.

Called here for third time today Sunday. Friendly staff nice selection of scones and nice ambience at a fair price . Only complaint is that it needs to be a little warmer. Still was cold here at 12 noon. Had to keep coat on and noticed the other customers were largely doing same. That's why a 4 scored. Next time depending on how that goes will decide a 5 or hopefully not a three. Best wishes to a nice wee enterprise.

Have been in here several times for afternoon coffee and enjoyed this had lunch last Saturday and was really impressed.The speciality burgers were lovely.Despite being very busy the staff were helpful.Thoroughly recommended.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a coffee with my friend in these spacious surroundings in The Main Street of Newtownards. Very welcoming and friendly staff.

Visited with m daughter, said I would probably not be back before it is a definite NO now. Fruit square & Tea, the traybake was boke, I needed a hacksaw to get through it! The one big chicken goujon which looked lovely was hiding the two tiny goujons ( all in the deceiving presentation!) £14.00 total - decided to leave early, so many other better establishments to eat at more reasonable prices and better quality! NEVER AGAIN!

Visited this afternoon for lunch as I had been before. Had to wait in queue for 5 mins and a further 10 mins for my food.

Just visited here this morning for breakfast. Great selection on menu. I went for Eggs Royale which were really tasty. Coffee lovely, staff friendly and helpful. We sat for ages talking and felt no pressure to leave. Can't wait to go back

Visited with family for breakfast. Parking nearby can be difficult at times, as the shop is on the main street (High Street) but there is a car park about 3 minutes walk away. The welcome was great, the food came in a reasonable time (freshly cooked) and it was delicious. The eggs benedict was a definite winner. Staff were pleasant, surrounding were clean, including toilets, and seating was plentiful. One thing I particularly liked was the fact that you could help yourself to as much sauce, butter, jams, fresh tap water as you want. Yes we'll be back.

Whilst I was very impressed with the food at Bob and Berts, I was very disappointed to discover that they do not have a wheelchair accessible toilet. They appear to have plenty of space and a "one size fits all" toilet would be helpful.

Comfortable surroundings, excellent coffee, varied menu to suit all tastes( sweet potato fries are a must.) For an indulgent treat...... spoilt for choice......all available to take home too. Helpful hosts. Good value. Will return again and again and again.

Called in for a coffee and scone.thoroughly recommend the white chocolate and raspberry.yum yum.Plenty of space made this a hassle free experience
