24 July Had the gluten free fish and chips which was fantastic. Also had 3 coarse meal of:- Starter, chicken strips which was great Main, pepperoni pizza which had a nice base very little pepperoni but absolutely covered in way too much cheese. People on next table handed theirs back as it was the same. Desert, ice cream which was ok. Nice atmosphere in the place with good music. Star of the show in this place is the staff especially Evie, she was perfect one of the best 👍

Visited here for a bit of lunch, food was great reasonably priced and tasted good. Unsure why the chips have skin on though?? Thought that was wedges?? The staff are super friendly and the pub is relaxed and down to earth no false pretences. Toilets could do with a bit of clean but overall a good experience will go back.

We took our friend out for her birthday, one off our friends had the beef casserole with cheesy dumplings, the meat was very tough and chewy, also the veg was under cooked,She had only been their a couple weeks with her family, had the same meal, she had it again because she had enjoyed it so much that time. She had the Yorkshire meringue, but that wasn’t the same as last time , the other also had it, when it came out it looked awful, and slop. Very disappointing. She is not one to complain.

Stopped here overnight in our motorhome and went in for dinner. Absolutely superb! The service was friendly and efficient. The place is spotlessly clean and has very nice decor and the food was brilliant. Try the Percival burger or the soy and ginger salmon! And they welcome dogs. What's not to like? We have no hesitation in highly recommending this pub. Well done.

Probably the worst greasy spoon around, my particular experience was fish, chips and mushy peas. The chips, well God knows when they were prepared, they were dark soft and oozed fat/oil just as the battered fish did. My son's short rib of beef was dry, my grandson's salmon was dressed with a sauce which had been served so dry and over cooked he lifted it off like a shuck. Does this publican or his so called chef look at or taste their own food!!! This was a birthday celebration, we did not make a fuss to spoil the occasion for our our special guest, the food managed to do that. We pushed the food around our plates to find something edible, no luck there. It wasn't just one dish it was all consistently bad. Time for a new chef. After much thought the next day we decided to try again elsewhere the following evening which was brilliant and where everyone was relieved to discuss the appalling experience at the Farmers Arms. Very bad show, don't waste your money or put your taste buds through it.

The 4 stars is based on the food; we stayed overnight and the room wasn’t as good. The Farmers Arms has a great menu, and the food is home-cooked - quite a rare thing these days! We had the vegetarian curry and it was fantastic. Plenty of drinks options too. Staff are really friendly. There is a bar area with a bit atmosphere, a quieter area to dine in and plenty of seating outside, including a play area for kids. I’d definitely recommend a meal here if you’re in the area. We were doing the Coast to Coast, so stayed overnight too. If you’re considering this, it’s fine but nothing special. The room was spacious but a bit grimy, and the bathroom was a bit small. Lots of tea and coffee options though and a comfy bed too. An advantage for anyone doing the C2C is you shorten the least interesting day of the route significantly by stopping here instead of Richmond!

A great restaurant for meeting up with the extended family. The Farmers Arms fitted us in on the day, 10 of us and 2 dogs. We all ate well from a varied menu. The service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. My chicken supreme was well cooked and tasty and we all cleared our plates. I especially enjoyed the chocolate brownie and the children loved their Macaroni Cheese.

Very busy for a Monday Lunchtime. Friendly welcome from Landlord (?) So pleased they hadca gluten free menu for me - I ordered the gf fish and chips n mushy peas n hubby had a hot beef Panini and salad with chips. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the batter!! It reminded me of seeing a chef on TV baking meat or fish in salt - the batter looked appalling and unappetising!! The home made chips and mushy peas saved the day - when I found te fish after breaking through the batter it was tasty but salted - WHY ruin fish and chips with SALT?? I hate SALT!! Hubby enjoyed his Panni chips and Salad.

Visiting area with family we has passed this establishment on a day trip & tried for dinner. Peaceful setting with outdoor or indoor seating available, together with large outdoor seating area at back. On arrival we were seated inside. Service was quick & pleasant, although sadly we were not given menus on arrival & had to get these ourselves after 15 minutes. Portion sizes are good for the prices & staff have awareness of food allergies, with options for gluten free/vegetarian & vegan. Cutlery was placed on table for us to distribute & some drink was spilled by server on table with noone coming back to wipe up. Overall we had a pleasant dining experience & enjoyed our meals & after drinks in the beer garden at the rear of the premises.

The good bit - The pub had friendly staff & good food & drink. The Average bit - The room was OK at best but the en-suite had a Sani flow toilet which is very noisy. The Awful bit - The breakfast. It was in your room overnight, no table to sit at & only 1 chair. Soggy croissants, Cheese & meat in fridge on the only plate, sweated as it was wrapped in clingfilm. The meat had coloured the awful cheese. All was inedible. For a pub that prides itself on good food they certainly let themselves down with the breakfast. Will not stop there again & suggest you don't.

We often visit due to family living in the area, we’ve had a few average meals but the carvery today was the worst meal we’ve had there. The meat was the best part thankfully, my potatoes were undercooked, the only decent veg to select was carrots otherwise it was sloppy mushy peas, undercooked cabbage or the most disgusting looking cauliflower cheese. There was also mash potato to choose and stuffing, all this was self serving. Now the gravy… as a poured it onto my plate the sight was just disgusting, I can only describe it as slime, it was so thick and gloopy, It made me feel nauseous before I could eat it! Had to scrape it off my food. I do like the staff usually but they seemed away with the fairy’s today, forgetting things and not making much sense, one even admitted herself she kept forgetting things. Unfortunately next time we’ll try somewhere else however we hope to be back if standards improve.

It's advertised thst the carvery is on 12.00 - 6.00pm. we turned up at 4.30pm and ordered 3 carvery's. To say there were burnt offerings would be an understatement. We were informed that it had been a busy day and the smallest piece of Turkey was left with scraps of beef. The only veg was 2 types of peas, mushy and frozen, and cabbage! Hot roast potatoes came out and we were informed there were more Yorkshire puddings in the oven ants three were brought out half way through our meal. There wasn't any offer of other veg and when we asked about more meat we were informed that there were some chicken pieces in the oven. It's a good price of you get what you pay for but with what we had it was very disappointing even though it tasted nice. With an hour and a half to go off carvery service you would expect more. We won't return. The waitresses were nice and friendly so that was a bonus.

A couple of friends with a child also stayed the night, the staff were really helpful to them and their child, they were very impressed. As I said the decor is a bit funky and not to everyones taste but look beyond that the service was great, the staff were friendly and the food was very reasonable. The pub is very close to Catterick race course, it is just off the Coast to Coast route by a couple of minutes so is worth considering if you are doing the walk and want to push on further than Richmond.

Great pub and restaurant, the bar is traditional Yorkshire where you can have bar meals, the lounge bar also serves food more formally or there is the restaurant which is quieter. We have a great meal on a Friday night at a very reasonable price.

Thank you all at farmers arms. On our way from York to Newcastle and popped in for lunch on our way after a quick Google search. Didn't disappoint, great service, awesome big portion food, and all very reasonably priced. When we arrived they were very busy but slotted us in and made sure we received our food quickly. Many thanks

Came in to watch the football with my family, the woman behind the bar never smiled once! We ordered food I decided to have the farmers combo to share £13 massive mistake!! Frozen cheap rubbish!!! Would have got better value for money at McDonald’s reminded me why I stopped using the farmers!

Stayed for 1 night whilst walking the c2c. Shared a family room with friends on the trip. The room had a boudoir feel. Good value for money. Not perfect by any shape or form. Some minor diy required. But an enjoyable stay. Excellent evening meal and very large breakfast.

Visited the area to see family on the recent bank holiday weekend (sat night) Staff friendly enough. We booked a family room which was well above what we expected, the kids were delighted with their separate sleeping area! Comfy beds, large TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a clean bathroom. We ate in the pub on Saturday evening and the food was very reasonably priced, and plentiful. More so, it was all home cooked and delicious. The chicken in cheese and leek sauce was amazing! Kids meals were also large and homecooked. We had a lovely night sleep and breakfast the next day, which was served till 9.30 and was well cooked and a decent size. Would happily stay here again if and when we're back in the area!

Pleasant enough former coaching inn with rear garden. The welcome was warm, staff friendly but food just ok.

I brought my fiancée and our dog here during the recent bank holiday after a great walk along the nearby river. The pub was empty except for 2 other couples. We were told by staff we couldn’t order food as the kitchen was closed, which is fair enough. I was then charged £8.60 for two cokes a cheap brand of crisps and a small bag of nuts. I know this review is likely to generate an unfortunate response from the management, as they have with other reviews on here, as it’s clear customer satisfaction comes second to preserving a business’s ego. Never the less a pub empty of a bank holiday speaks volumes.

We had gone for a drive on Sunday and decided to pop in and try the food.We got a table near the carvery it had nice views out into the garden.I tried the vegetarian Wellington with veg of the carvery it was the best Vegetarian wellington meal i had eaten. The mushroom creamy filling was very tasty the pastry was not to thick nice and crispy. The others had the Meaty carvery plenty of choice.we all had desserts which where all as good but struggled to eats as full from main course.Good value Sunday Lunch.Would have given Excellent but the dinning area has very dark walls bit grubby and dated.Brighter walls and new light fittings would make a lot of difference. As the food was good we would happily eat here again.

Went here a couple of years ago, and whilst the food was good the surroundings and furniture were dismal. Chairs repaired with duck tape etc.

A very nice meal along with a couple of pints of Hobgob, what more could you wish for? The staff were very helpful, the locals very pleasant and chatty, and we were welcomed by all even though we were eating and had our dog with us. Recommended.

we had the two steaks with a bottle of wine so at £25 we thought this good value, very busy but they squeezed us in . Sirloin was better than the rib eye and could have done with peas .

We popped in on a Monday night as all the pubs in the immediate area that we usually go to don’t open on a Monday We arrive at 5:30 opening time and were hardly greeted by Shannon We hadn’t booked, but she found us a table There was a lovely selection of beers and wines and an amazing menu with specials of the day On Mondays they do a night where you can get a sirloin steak for £12 with all the trimmings They also specialise in seafood and there were a number of dishes this included prawns lobsters, monkfish et cetera Who made soup of the day was courgette and sweet potato and this is delicious Between us, we had a steak and kidney pie and there’s also an option of a steak and kidney pudding and two of us had prawn and lobster Thermidor, which was delightful There is a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff are lovely and the toilets are clean. Thank you, Shannon to you and your colleagues and we very much look forward to our next physics

Ok for a coffee but the staff were terrified of any customers. Not allowed to use the toilet. Long wait for coffee. Shouted at to wear masks we were already wearing. Seemed paralysed by fear - I would avoid even trying to sit inside. They were happy for people to sit outside. Though it was raining hard. Such a shame as a delightful village and would have been a nice break from our walk.

Tried this lovely pub for the first time earlier this week with friends for an evening meal off the weekday menu. I had Scampi which was wholetail, light batter , served with the best chips I’ve had in ages . Others had chicken and burger, all were beautifully cooked and quality ingredients. Eaton Mess was spot on and the sticky toffee and custard had us drooling ! The atmosphere was what you’d want in a lovely cosy country inn, the owners were very friendly, service friendly and quick without feeling rushed. They also accommodated our 2 large dogs offering a nice treat and water. We loved it that much we’ve just returned from Sunday lunch !! Prawn cocktail starters were excellent, more prawn than salad 👍, soup, black pudding and bacon , all served with a warm crusty roll, all were very good. 3 of us had roast beef dinners and one roast pork - the veg was cooked perfectly, as were the mash and roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding were just right. None of us could find space for a pudding but the menu has something for everyone. We shall most definitely return again.

The staff were very friendly and apologetic for the long wait, but despite the wait it was still a wonderful experience as the food was delicious!

Excellent place. Clearly this last year has new management as this was a very good experience for 10 of us for lunch en route to our long weekend in Leyburn. Cosy log fire. Welcoming hand pulled cask (theakstons) pulled properly. Food excellent so to the service. Kerb side from road hides a super set up from the back and inside.
