The parking machine wasn’t working, so the staff member told me it’s okay I can go ahead and order my breakfast, if I get a parking ticket to bring it back in and they will have it cancelled. I got the ticket, brought it in and have now been informed that the policy has changed and I will have to pay the £75 parking fine. I also contacted Wetherspoon head office, who said it was my responsibility, even though the machine wasn’t working at the time and their staff member told me to stay.

Drivers BEWARE!!!! Parking is free but only if you remember to check your car reg in. The booking system is not obviously in the doorway either. If you fail to do so instead of being free they ridiculously charge you £45 !! I mean that's extreme for parking that is free. Maybe £10-£20. Its not like you didn't pay as you dont have to. Plus being not in a position that people would use the car park other than for the pub. Anyway BEWARE!!!! And search out that hidden booking in system.

it was a good atmosphere with my friends, although there was a female bouncer which was very patronizing and quite intimidating, she constantly was watching us as we were enjoying our meal. She kept on giving us dishonorable looks, which led to us leaving the pub. i'm not entirely sure if this is due to the fact or our elder age compared to others inside the elms but it ruined our night. Other than this i have no complaints about the food/drinks. 2/5

Had an absolutely awful experience. The pub was busy as usual so we ordered on the app and the drinks were ready really quickly but sat on the bar for ages. We collected two rounds from the bar which wasn’t a problem. On the third round my husband went to collect again but was told he needed to show the receipt by a very irritated bartender who told him ‘we have a protocol’ and that you ‘need to follow.’ That was totally fine as we had it, although the instructions were delivered in quite and aggressive way and unlike any of the other bar staff previously. Obviously this was rude, unnecessary and a bit annoying! He then accused my husband of staring and intimidating him. He did neither. The barman also made such a fuss about it to the manager that he came over to our table and told us we should leave!! My husband was doing dry January! Absolutely awful, aggressive bar staff, totally inept manager. Will never go back.

Dreadful. Sitting with some friends when a member of staff put some food on the table, nothing special just the usual sub standard snack. We told him we hadn't ordered any food but was told, no, it,s definitely for this table. We didn't know who had ordered what so everyone just nibbled at it. Then half an later the (the very rude) chap came back and demanded 17 quid. 17 quid for his mistake. Please Management of the elms, train your staff in customer relations.

Yes, cheap and ( fairly) cheerful, but I suppose basic is a better word. Portions were small, ok, so was the price , but as small as my steak and kidney pie, certainly not a pub try pie, the plate was swamped with peas, bit too generous here. Desserts were a bit better, although more ice cream than everything else. Really surprised no apple crumble. The rest of our party of six appeared to have a similar experiences. I have been a loyal Wetherspoons customer for many many years. I have given you thousands and thousands of pounds. I promise I will NEVER step foot in another Wetherspoons ever again. WETHERSPOONS break the law by allowing their pub managers to inforce illegal rules through their staff which contravene the equality act 2010 for goods and services to the public. WETHERSPOONS also show no empathy for elderly and frail customers or the disabled. WETHERSPOONS AS A BRAND HAVE GONE DOWN IN MY ESTIMATION. IT LACKS EMPATHY, COMPASSION 0R CARE TOWARDS ITS CLEARLY UNDERVALUED CUSTOMERS. I am so disappointed with Wetherspoons, I had always thought of it as a family and young persons value for money brand. With good ethics. I had enjoyed coming to this particular location on previous occassions with family members as there is never any trouble, the bar and waitress staff have always been very pleasant, my father loves the beer, they sell English wine and the food has been great. Our treatment yesterday was in complete contrast to previous visits. It showed a completey different side of the brand. It came as a total shock and something i have never witnessed anywhere else before. It is going to take all of us a long time to get over this experience. We were prevented from speaking with their pub manager or any of his staff about our circumstances by the men employed and instructed to block customers access at the entrances half way through our meal. On arriving home i phoned the manager and explained what had happened and he stood by his decision to prevent us access stating it had become busy and it was for the safety of his staff and customers. He said people were only allowed to leave the queue to use the toilet. There was plenty of empty seating for us to finish our dining inside and the bar was fairly empty as they had switched to operating a one in one out rule treating their customers very disrespectfully like cattle . He was disinterested in my parents ages and visible frailty, the fact that two of us were legally recognised as disabled and had wanted to come in out of the cold to finish our meals . I informed him he was breaking the law by denying disabled customers reasonable access and how badly my two elderly parents had been treated. He stood by his decision and was uninterested in the rules and regulations towards disabled customers. He only appologised when I referred to the Elms Pub as Wetherspoons the brand. It was a sunny afternoon around 3pm when the four of us sat in the gardens to celebrate a family birthday. It wa a lovely atmosphere with many young adults outside celebrating their A level results, meeting up with their former class friends for the last time. We bought sharing platers and drinks throughout the afternoon freely accessing the bar to make purchases and use the toilet facilities. We then placed a food order for our main courses using their app at around 6pm. The bar and table staff had been lovely all afternoon and the other patrons had been extremely polite apllowing us space to get past their groups tp access the pub facilities. After eating our main course the app wouldn't acknowledge our table number 105 to order desserts and coffee, my elderly parents were both feeling uncomfortably cold and my father and I, both disabled customers needed to use the toilets so we decided to take our drinks inside to finish our meals where it was warm and there were lots of empty tables. We went to use the entrance nearest to us to the right side of the building which has easy access and two men blocked our way stating we could only access the building now using the main front entrance. My brother pointed to our frail father who is almost 87 and was using his stick to stand up and asked them to speak with their management to request an exception for us. I carry an Access card with me for my own disabilities but my fathers needs were very clearly visible so shouldn't have been a problem. The man came back out and looked a bit embarrased as he apologised to us stating he had asked and they weren't allowed to let us use the accessible entrance. We had to go to the front entrance to enter the bar. We had to carry our drinks round to the front entrance where a long queue had now formed to enter the pub. We stood at the back of the queue where they were now operating a one in one out system for the bar even though the pub was mostly empty with plenty of seating available inside. One minute we had been enjoying our main meal, the next we were thrown to the back of a long queue to access the building one at a time to order our desserts and use the toilets. I don't know how their young patrons tolerate this sort of treatment, but here we were with my frail father at nearly 87 years old and our 84 year old mum. We had spent about £160 on food and drink throughout our stay and were now being treated without any compasion or respect. My brother took my father to the front of the queue to speak with the doormen and my mother and I followed still holding our glasses. A large burly doorman pushed his way past the other two men at the door and I distinctly heard him use the f word saying very cleary "and they can f**k off" I believe this was direceted at us. He was angry and intimidating and squared up to my frail father who was standing in front of him a bit confused by it all. He shouted at my brother "you can bring him in to use the toilet but his going straight back out after to join the end of the queue if he wants to come in here" he referred to my father like he was an object, an inconvienience. The young people at the front of the queue had more empathy and the lad at the front said he was happy for my dad to take his place. My disability causes balance issues and i was struggling on the steps. I tried to explain that we didn't want to go to the bar, we had our drinks and simply wanted to sit inside where there was plenty of seating to order our desserts. The doormen all converged on me with the same man shouting at me telling me to leave the entrance. I lost my balance and almost fell over, it was so embarrasing surrounded by young adults queueing to buy their drinks at the bar. My family left the premises and went home without using the toilet or finishing our drinks. This man was nothing better than a thug, his behaviour and attitude was designed to be menacing and totally inappropriate and disproportionate squaring up to my poor elderly father. He should be sacked and so should the pub manager who apparently has over 25 years experience. He clearly didn't know how to manage his staff or know how to put systems in place to ensure the smooth running of the pub in busier times causing minimum disruption to customers and staff. Wetherspoons head office should act on this because it is damaging their brand and they could potentially be sued for breaking the law by treating both elderly and disabled customers unfairly. I suspect as long as the tills are full at the end of the night they will do nothing. Our family celebration was ruined and we have all been left very distraught by the experience.

On two previous occasions I had enjoyed my breakfast and the staff are very obliging. This week I asked for poached egg on toast plus a sausage, bacon and mushrooms. I was told I could not have poached eggs on toast, even though poached eggs were apparently available with the Benedict breakfasts. What, no eggs? Apparently I could have scrambled egg on toast so why no poached? I settled for scrambled. Big mistake. The eggs when they came were over-cooked smnd rubbery. The sausage, bacon and mushrooms came on a separate plate which was ridiculous.. The bacon and sausage were poor quality, almost without taste. Maybe I had never noticed on previous occasions but this week's breakfast was much below par, a pity as I see my friends at the Elms once a month. The staff have always been friendly but should be able to engage brain when needed. If I am ever allowed to have poached eggs I hope they are not overcooked and ruined like the scrambled egg.

Beware here (just possibly or in Wetherspoons generally) they don't abide by the menu or it is (unintentionally?) misleading. They offer an ADDITIONAL Two 3oz Beef patties. However according to The Elms this means that if you have one on your plate this is only an additional ONE making the TWO. I did query it but that is what I was told. So does that mean if you order the additional 12 Onion rings they offer and if you have six already on you plate they would they only give another six?? No they wouldn't they would give you the 12 you ordered. I hope something was not right at The Elms or the menu is accepted as misleading and it will be changed or they accept they are not abiding by it as it is at present. I accept the food and drink is so very (very) reasonably priced but I would like to get what I order from the menu as it is written.

I went there to have a drink, taking my miniature schnauzer with me. We went into the pub to buy a drink unaware that the pub was not dog friendly. The manager said I must not bring dogs in. I asked how do I buy a drink, he replied you don't. I then left the pub, on leaving a customer ask if he could buy one for me and bring it out. How good was that. I sat outside with my dog where my partner arrived. Shortly after my drink. I started to Drink it, then manager arrived and told me to leave, needless to say I questioned this. He was insist ant as was I he then wrestled my drink off me, to the astonishment of all around. I could have cLled police at this time for assault, I chose not to due to embarisment and left after receiving a refund then giving the money back to the guy who assisted me. His group were also shocked. It is a mistery to me why this was enforced when it is an open area with many entrances unsigned.

Had a really great time with family last Friday, however if you need to use the disabled facilities you have to go to the bar to ask for the key. I didnt see any able bodied people needing to ask for a key to go to the toilet. This is invisible discrimination as the management making the rules have no concept of disability. Also access into the premises extremely difficult if you are disabled.

It was explained one member of party was too drunk so I wasn’t aloud a drink. This one member of the party was in no way too drunk and had in-fact been crying due to leaving her current employment to which we was celebrating her next job. We did talk to staff and door man to which they agreed I wasn’t too drunk and nor was anyone at my table but due to manager BENS decision there was no movement on this decision. I was given my receipt and we all made our way elsewhere. I have still been charged for these drinks I wasn’t aloud. Beware when in groups they are not welcoming. BEN had insisted a door man watched us all evening but then refused to take note of his view when the door man felt we wasn’t any trouble.

Was 20 odd of us out for a friends leaving doo. Had been in there for a couple of hours. My friend ordered some drinks on the app as seemed to be the easier way to order as the bar staff have no clue who has been waiting to be served at the bar. A female member of staff came over and said your drinks have been refunded. We asked why, she said we cannot serve you anymore drinks the manager has said. I asked to speak to the manager who was cowering in the corner, and said he isn’t serving us as a me wrong of our party was drunk. He had a doorman literally standing watching over us. I spoke to the very polite doorman who agreed he had t seen anything wrong with our party, I explained we was on my friends leaving doo, she had been emotional as her best friend had just left who she had worked with for years. He said I’m going to speak to the manager as I don’t feel that your all doing Anything wrong and went out the back to speak to him. We then had the female member of staff come over accusing my friend and saying she had been causing trouble, I said when did she cause trouble as I’ve just spoke to the doorman who didn’t have an issue with us. She kept on and on. I went back to to the doorman and the manager who said she hadn’t caused anything but had to ouch to drink. The doorman even said I’ve thrown out a lot worse and he couldn’t understand why the manager was kicking us out. So 20 odd people left the bar and I can assure you will never be returning. I would seriously look into the staff you are employing as clearly they are losing the establishment money and are rude. Do not go here if you want to have fun or drink alcohol!

Service Good.Only criticism is when busy tables don't get cleared quickly. If you have complaints about this Wetherspoons then try Moon on the Square, Basildon. Food and service needs a serious review. Lazy do nothing Staff need replacing. Never again.Well done The Elms keep up the good food and service.

Lunch me and the kids - it was fine and easy! Busy place for sure but better than an empty pub! Fish and chips fine - ribs were good and the chilli was also good! No hassle just ordering water and the refills of coffee were fine! We thought it was all good and the price was excellent. Friendly budget lunch / this does the job.

Would be ok if they did not have bouncers that are clearly looking for trouble and not there to make you feel comfortable like they should do. Am sure one guy in on the Team has just left School ? really lets what would otherwise be a good but noisy pub down.

I hadn't been before to eat but was told is was good.I had the traditional breakfast and I was able to swap the fried egg for another sausage and add extra hash browns. I also had a refillable cup of tea.Sausages were good quality and I can't fault the rest, didn't wait long for it and happy helpful staff. Will definitely visit again.

Unlike other weatherspoons, the Elms is not suitable to hold a business meeting where you require electricity!!! Met at The Elms (weatherspoons), in leigh on sea, for a business meeting. Could not find any power sockets, asked manager, he seemed very confused. Explained why we were there he was not helpful. We decided to stay and try to hold meeting, breakfast ordered..... Well not up to standard, would not recommend having the porridge here. Rest was just edible. Won't be returning.

First visit for over a year since having been deterred, after having been regular customers for several years, by dirty tables, no menus, understaffing and a generally run down atmosphere. Very pleased to now find clean tables, numerous menus and competent fast service. Using the application to order from the table probably helped speed up service. We enjoyed two excellent wraps with salads and now feel able to return again.

Now, where do I start, smelling like an industrial accident at a Lynx factory and looks like the worlds shittest band, we hit the elms. Bit busy when we walked in but found ourselves a nice little booth. Surprisingly hard to fit 3 kids and 4 adults into them btw. The foods now been ordered and after suffering a long forty five minute wait of the big mans wife moaning of where the food is, we said to him, if she shags like she complains your in for a treat! Foods on the table, pancakes for myself with hash browns and a full English for my pal, and wow did it go down like a treat! Clean plates all round, not a scrap left. Therefore my overall rating of this place is a 7/10.Service was a bit long but worth the wait.Signed The Breakfast Hoops

Just returned from The Elms after walking out. I was treated to a rude, surly server who refused to serve me as I enquired whether the Carling was out of stock or withdrawn as the tap badge was on display but they didn't have any. Absolutely gobsmacked, I doubt anything will come of this which is a shame as I get the impression the servers are lawless, especially as he appeared to be the manager on duty. If I was the GM I'd be horrified to know what representation the staff was giving if I wasn't aware.

We visit regularly, at least once a week, and find excellent value for money. Don’t expect high class cuisine, it’s cheap and cheerful and generally good food and the beer from the hand pumps is excellent....most of the time! But at 1.99 a pint you must expect the odd odd tasting not too good BUT the bar staff are always willing to change it without quibbling. I recommend this place despite its shortcomings for a workaday pie and pint type evening out.

I've been coming here for nearly 20 years now but tonight was the worst I've known the service. I had to queue up for over 25 minutes to get a drink and when I questioned the delay it fell on deaf ears. What doesn't help is people using the online Wetherspoon App to order drinks which seems to take precedence over people queuing at the bar. Shame. You've lost my business.

The drink was sitting on the side while the girl who was supposed to be bringing the drinks out started serving other people, the bar wasn't even that busy but only two people serving. Not even an apology for waiting so long. Typical spoons under staffed and poor service.

I asked for extra and I was informed that I would have to pay extra......what the hell. So I reluctantly agreed to pay again for the Syrup that I had already paid for in the first place. They had on a event that they wanted families to come to. Someone had fainted. The paramedics had asked for a chair for the person. Some drunk thought someone was stealing his chair and started swearing in front of a young child and trying to cause a fight. When the someone was getting a chair that was asked for by the ambulance staff and when the incident occurred the bar staff did nothing. There was no bouncer or manager around. The guy should of been barred for life. In weatherspoon he would of have been. When someone asked the bar staff said although they allow children, they can't control customer's language, The drunk seemed to be working for the pub on the night and someone mentioned he was the DJ for the night. No manager got involved, bar staff watching and doing nothing. The guy who was swearing and wanted to fight should be banned or sacked. What decent human denies something that has been asked for by a paramedic!

We chatted to the owner and he told us about the history of the area and that this tea room was an original building. Great coffee and lovely and quirky in a good way.

We took our father to The Captains Table yesterday for a birthday lunch. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent, massive portions. The fish and chips were especially good. Served with smiles. We had a problem getting our disabled father from his wheelchair back into the car and the waitress and chef came to the rescue. Such lovely people, we would probably still be there if they hadnt helped us! I can’t praise them enough, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant .Thanks guys
