Busy environment, and you can only get a table when everyone arrives. A place for genuine Hong Kong cuisine, but not a place to chill and talk. We had fish skin with salty egg York, hot and spicy tofu with minced pork, Chinese kale fried with garlic, and a fried noodle with prawns. A bit oily in general, but the taste is great.

I have to say that I've enjoyed every visit here. I've been here three times. There may be better food elsewhere depending on what you order but what we ordered was unique to this restaurant and delicious. The fried dace & black bean okra was particularly yum! Immediately ordered extra rice to go with it. The staff each time has always been attentive and gave a warm service. On the most recent visit the waiter was so nice as to keep our water topped up, cleared our dishes as they emptied and encouraged us to "take our time and eat" along with polite chit chat. Before sending us on our way, he felt duty bound to warn us about pick pockets in the area and wish us a safe journey home. My dear old mum was quite awestruck, but then she does frequent Wong Kei 😂 For those reviews complaining about the roast meats being cold, they are traditionally served at room temperature.

Overpriced , below standard not comparing with Hong Kong , even worse than a restaurant in a small city of Canada. Was supposed to give 1 star , another star was given to the milk tea , which is pretty ok

I ordered the Twin Mix BBQ Rice (£15.8), which were the twin mix of BBQ pork and crispy pork belly, salted egg on toast (£10.50), and a hot drink of coffee mix milk tea (£5.00). The crispy pork belly was on point! The pork skin was crispy while the meat was tender! The texture of the BBQ pork was a bit dry, but probably because the cutting of the pork unfortunately didn't have a lot of fat to make it juicy and tender. The taste of both pork was delicious and very authentic to the ones I grew up eating back in Hong Kong. This included the soy sauce that they accompanied the rice with. The salted egg on toast was also memorable. The crust of the toast was crispy while the core was soft and rich of flavors from the salted egg. It is a nice twist from the traditional french toast in Hong Kong. The staff was very nice and helpful, which made the experience even more welcoming. If you want a taste of Hong Kong cuisine, I will recommend to visit this store :)

Here you can feel the atmosphere of Hong Kong's new-style tea house, it feels like being in Tsui Wah or No. 2 Ice House in Hong Kong. Although there were many people, the service of the waiters was still up to par and deserves praise. The taste of the food is about 80% to 90% similar to that of Hong Kong. The milk tea is relatively light and lacks the strong tea aroma of Hong Kong-style milk tea.

The food is a good representation of HK style food, the prices, however, are not. To me, a big part of what makes a HK style cafe so good growing up was the affordable pricing, and this place is not affordable. I don't feel like I can just walk in there on a whim and feel good about it.

Been twice, food is interesting, especially the egg, scrambled or fried on rice with a choice of veg, chicken, pork, or prawns. The plate of honey bbq pork was sizeable and more than enough for two or more, tasty to boot. Like most in Soho, u are in and out pretty quick. Unlike some in Soho, it is almost a restaurant, quiet and relaxed, table and chairs. Service is fast, plenty staff, food turns up pretty quick, and the bill also hits the table even faster. Prices are ok, two mains and a bowl of rice was near enough forty notes and no drinks, two petsons.First visit cost near on sixty notes for 2. See photos. Seems that most such establishments be it in Soho or sunny Surrey now charge £3.50 for a bag of tea that costs pennies. I resent forking out £3.70 for a glass of mango lassie at an Indian or Pakistani restaurant, but £3.50 for a tea bag in a pot? I guess a sign of the times? It's a restaurant that u are more likely to walk past and not notice its existence. Do stop and give it a try.

The Eight restaurant: The place has been on my to-try list for a while, and finally I got a chance to dine in here last weekend. The place was crowded with people when we walked in, but the staff easily found a table for 2 and we were seated right away. We had some of the best roasted duck ever, very flavourful and goes so well with rice. The only trouble was to be mindful of the bones in each piece of roasted duck. Crispy pork belly was tender at the meat and crispy on the skin, it’s amazing! We had some greats wonton soup, we loved every bite of it. The wontons in spicy chilli oil is a must try, the peanut sauce tasted was spicy and nutty, we liked it so much we used the remaining sauce to eat with rice. The dish that I wanted to try the most was the salted egg york toast, and I was not disappointed. The toast was massive, the salted egg sauce oozed out when I cut through it, really satisfying. And the toast was so tasty, it’s not very sweet, at the same time it’s not too heavy. I think I’ll come back again just for this toast.

When I asked the waitress to remove it, she got really mad and literally turned her back from me after I paid. Even as I was exiting the restaurant, she turned away so she didn’t have to say thank you or good bye. Well, this is London and not America. The Eight is a fantastic spot in Chinatown, serving up authentic Hong Kong-style comfort food. The highlight for me was the Hong Kong egg yolk French toast—crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, with a rich, gooey salted egg yolk center that takes it to the next level. It’s indulgent, unique, and an absolute must-try! We also had the salt and pepper chilli tofu, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and beautifully seasoned, with just the right amount of spice. The menu has a great selection of classic HK dishes, and the service is quick and efficient. There’s both upstairs and downstairs seating, and you don’t need a reservation—just walk in and enjoy! Seeing the waving review in social media so we paid a visit. However, it’s totally disappointed: 1. Fried Beef Ho Fan 干炒牛河 - the flat rice noodles is awesome quality, the taste is right, however, they even don’t know how to cut the beef against its grains, hence the beef is very tough and chewy and we left most in the dish. 2. Deep fried wonton - this is not the classic one as they named 錦鹵雲吞,but simpler. Version of it and it’s the best among few things we order. 3. Roast BBQ Duck and Chicken - we order 油雞燒鴨 and I have asked clearly if they have soya sauce chicken油雞 before I ordered, when it comes it is 霸王雞海南雞yellow style but not soya sauce chicken The duck is average and the chicken is below standard and very tough. The most expensive and bland Lemon Tea I have ever had in UK, and it costs £6.x We see the queue and I could understand it could serve the taste bud for non-Cantonese or non-Hong Konger. Bare in mind it is a restaurant originally from Malaysian Chinese so the expectation is different I personally won’t revisit/ recommend, there are plenty of choice in ChinaTown.

Not recommended. We had chosen this restaurant as our last meal before leaving. The quality of the food did not live up to our expectations. The place itself looks good. The furnishings are very nice and the structure is divided over two floors. It is located in a very busy area of Soho. We arrived at 12.30pm and the place was already full, with a small group of people waiting. Luckily our friends booked in advance. The menu is divided into categories and is very broad with different choices, including hot soups, various types of meat, noodles, fried rice and more. We took various dishes. Some I recommend and others a little less. The wonton soup is quite good, 5 dumplings in a delicately flavored broth. While the stir fried hor fun noodles with beef weren't exactly that. Of this last dish you could really feel the burnt flavor of the soy sauce and the pasta itself had no consistency. Another course that tasted burnt was the beef sirloin cubes with black pepper, we ate a piece of meat each and then left it as it was. The HK style Prawn Toast was also a disappointment. You basically pay more than 14 euros for fried bread with two large prawns. Other dishes we tried were the sautéed okra with black beans, a special mix of 4 different dishes and the triple BBQ. The okras were ok, luckily they didn't taste burnt. The special mixed oeuvres was made up of 4 different tastings. A good way to taste different things in small quantities. The curry fish balls weren't bad, the texture was good but the flavor was missing something. Good fried chicken wings. The dish we appreciated most was the signature roast: three kind barbecue, too bad the crispy pork wasn't crispy. Overall I don't recommend it. The cuisine is not authentic HK, as stated by other reviews, it has more of a westernized taste. The quality/price ratio is not well calibrated, also taking into account the location. You pay a lot for food that isn't worth it.

I had the triple BBQ dish with rice, the duck was quite tough and had the adjacent bones in it, the beef was half way tender, while the crispy pork belly was absolutely delicious, so 50/50 on that. There was a lot of rice and some flavourful sauce but overall it fell a bit dry, given the dry-ish duck and some of the beef. Another dish we tried was fried rice which was way underwhelming, being a super dry, not really flavourful dish, no roasted flavour, just like a dry risotto. The last dish, the sechuan chicken was good and saucy. The toilets had a weird oily leek going on the wall we didn't want to question much, tbh.

Really good Chinese restaurant with an open kitchen. We visited after the theatre,we didn’t want a pre theatre meal so it was good to find a restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue that’s kitchen doesn’t shut at 9:30pm. Warm welcome, amazing service and excellent well presented and freshly prepared food that arrived within minutes even though the restaurant was extremely busy. Very extensive menu. We had Chicken and Sweetcorn Soup, Sesame Prawn Toast, Beef in BlackBean Sauce, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Egg Fried Rice. Very reasonably priced for a west end restaurant. Would visit again when we’re next in London. Highly recommended. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I came by two days ago on a recommendation from coffee loving Italians for a coffee break and had their coffee of the day, black. Nice and efficient service, fair price, great aromas. I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in the neighborhood!
