Not a lot to say about this place given that it is closing on 8th April. It's a Wetherspoons so it has the usual range of Wetherspoon food and drink.

No me puedo quejar

On arrival we asked a member of staff if they were still serving food our reply was " is it 11 o'clock yet " which it was only 8.30pm we then proceeded to order food , 2 X Mac & Cheese , it arrived a few moments later plates were cold , mac & cheese was as if out a Tin & reheated with black bits at the bottom , chips I had to send back as cold not just once but twice , garlic bread was that hard you couldn't possibly eat it ... We were offered a free drink as an apology to come after we had finished . 1 hour later we still hadn't received that drink & I certainly wasn't going to remind anyone after that . I certainly would not recommend anyone to eat there

If you've read any of my reviews then you'll know that we visit Glasgow fairly often. We regularly stop off in here for a drink prior to going onto restaurants in the city and its an easy place to arrange to meet people as its not far from Glasgow Central Railway Station. We haven't eaten here so cant comment on the food and most of the time we visit is early afternoon so its not overly busy and have never found and problems with waiting to be served but I would imagine its busy nearer office closing time. As with most Wetherspoons pubs there is a good variety of seating but most importantly theres a very good variety of draft and bottles beers, spirits and craft beer. I would recommend it for a quiet afternoon drink.

after and excessive wait, No mince , in their mince cottage pie. This really was the base of trying to sell people really poor quality food, how the chef would put that out for consumption without any care is perplexing as their is no way he did not know there was No mince in the mince cottage pie, an absolutely cynical ' ah well give them that and see if they complain' attempt at profits before service or quality, genuinely disappointing.. the lack of concern shown by the manager spoke volumes as the complaint return ratio is probably included in their cynical output calculations.. Oh did I mention the excessive wait!!!

I like this Wetherspoons. The problem is the lack of staff serving at peak times. I was in on a Saturday night and 3 people were serving behind a very long bar which was 2 deep in places with customers. Get more staff serving ! Came here as my first stop during a visit to Glasgow, this place is basically across the road from the Bothwell Street stop from the Glasgow Airport 500 bus, so it's very handy if you are hungry after your travels!I had the Scottish Breakfast and it was excellent, I wish I could remember the name of the guy who served us as his customer service skills were fantastic and I do believe good service needs to be praised. The food was what you would expect from a wetherspoons assuming you like wetherspoons, if not then this place is probably not for you but if you do, then it is a very nice example of a wetherspoons indeed.I had came here again later in my trip and ordered the Chicken Parmigiana which was also excellent.I would highly recommend this pub!

Pleasant enough Wetherspoon with a toilet that is not in the basement for a change. It is up a few stairs but very easy to get to by comparison with normal Wetherspoon experiences. The decor seems a little tired but the bar is well stocked as is normal and us the brightest bit.It was Mexican day, not my favorite cuisine. I opted for chicken strips with a naked burrito. I think alright would best describe it. Next time I think something a bit less healthy but with more recognisable flavours as this all seemed to merge into a salad with sauces and rice. It wasn't really to my personal taste. The Guinness was good and the bottled red Australian wine was the usual drinkable and reasonable priced stuff.Lets face it you don't get great wine for under £10 in most places these days but this is not as bad as some. I don't think it went very well with the Mexican food. The bar staff, particularly the girl with the ponytail, were helpful and friendly. I think the place could do with some sort of makeover but as it is it is just OK to sit in and have dome food and a drink. The big air con ducts are an eyesore. In summary the atmosphere isn't very good but the staff are.

This is a good pub within a few minutes' walk of the city centre, where (unless - which occasionally happens, there is party who've reserved half of the place) you are almost always going to find a table with your mates. There is a variety of seating - you can perch on a high stool and watch the passersby in their amusing array of footwear, making their way through the smokers and the puff-the-magic-dragoneers .......or you can sit at an 'ordinary' table away from the bustle ......... and if you are lucky, you can grab a settee-type-seat by the library shelves, which hold genuine books with a wealth of info .....I have always found the barstaff and table-servers here to be great - you get served in turn and the food is brought with a smile. The cooking is not so constant ......... my friend got an unbelievably BLACKly-toasted bagel surrounding her smoked salmon, and I have had stone-cold halloumi in a wrap - more upsetting is that on occasions (if you are in the library-seats) the smell of cigarette-smoke from the kitchen area is nauseating. So - good for a drink, not-so-hot for eating.

There is no pressure to eat and leave, no problem sitting with a couple of drinks for a few hours and the staff are friendly and obliging. Where can you get two bottles of wine and three lunches and still have change from £30. Ok so it's not gourmet dining but the food is fresh, wholesome and filling and there is a decent selection with daily specials menu. I am a fan of Wetherspoons. They offer good value for money, have good food and a wide range of drinks. I am not a fan of the Edward Wylie however. We were there on a Friday afternoon, admittedly probably a very busy part of the week, but that is not my problem. There were clearly not enough staff on duty so we had to wait an age to be served. The tables were not emptied regularly, leaving us with a choice of clearing them ourselves or looking at a sea of glasses. Worse still, the bottle bins were emptied into the larger container right behind the bar, creating a din that could have been heard 200 yards away. As if that weren't bad enough, the large container was then wheeled through the busy bar to wait outside!!This just isn't good enough in a city centre establishment in a vibrant cosmopolitan city. Wetherspoons will get away with it because of where this place is. But they should buck their ideas up. It's really a pity, because the food was delicious.

Unfortunately i went for my favourite meal which was the large mixed grill and it was the worst one i had in all the Wetherpoons i have visited in England and Scotland. The chips and peas were cold and the Lamb was just full of fat. Not once were we asked how the meal was and left the establishment not happy due to the quality of the food especially paying £11.59 for the meal. Plenty of People eating so that's a good sign. 2 women jumped the queue, but it wouldn't be a wetherspoon if that didn't happen. Only downside was that we sat on the stools facing out of the window (view is of a silver office block) only to find when he left that the wooden coating on the ledge where we rested our drinks is peeling off and we had this brown sticky residue on our arms !. I really like this place and when in Glasgow go here especially if there on the Tuesday evening for Steak Club night. This week managed to go and ordered the two steaks and a bottle of wine, great value, cant beat it. The place was busy and food did take a lot longer than normal to come. But when it did it looked nice and the steak was good and well cooked. The dish comes with chips, mushrooms, peas and tomato. My plate had three nice big mushrooms but it was only when I went to eat one that I realised that it hadn't been cooked. I'm not speaking about under done, this had not even got into the pan. My wife's plate was the same. The waitress never came near use again until we were finished, so explained when she picked up the plates. The Team leader when passing our table did explain that they were 'a man down in the kitchen' and that was why there had been that mistake. I'm not sure but anyone could tell the difference regardless of how many staff you have in the kitchen not to have served that.I noticed a little later that the table behind me had their uncooked mushrooms at the side of their plates once they had finished their meal. This is a first for me at this place as its always been very good in the past but what disappoints me the most is that no one in the kitchen noticed and said don't serve that, the waitress said nothing and in hindsight avoided us. It wasn't just my table that this happened to but that there was just a could not care attitude by the staff with a half hearted sorry.

With the best will, I couldn't finish it. After coffee with free refills, I didn't need lunch. What a bargain!Staff were friendly and obliging and facilities were spacious and clean.

Having been in Glasgow for the Ideal Home Exhibition and perhaps over indulged in the evening the next morning required a proper breakfast.I knew where this place was, I worked in the building 40 years ago, we headed off there.Parked right at the front door, £3 for an hour, and walked in.Two Scottish breakfasts and two teas, £7.95!It was excellent and fitted the bill perfectly.I challenge anyone to get better value in the centre of Glasgow.I'll be back, hopefully not quite so hungover next time!

Having been frozen in the crystal palace last night I thought I would give the Edward Wylie a go.Walked and it was reasonably warm so that was good. Unfortunately within half an hour the ubiquitous air con came on and hypothermia is beginning to set in.Why do wetherspoons think their customers will be happier when they're frozen?

This place is always mobbed, especially with the after work crowd on a Friday evening. The drinks deals are always great. The food is very basic and small portions, but this is reflected in the cheap food prices.

You can never beat a Wetherspoons pub for reasonable food and drink at a good price.Had passed a very busy pub on Argyle Street before finding this quiet one in Bothwell Street just a short distance from Central Station.Exterior is fantastic as it was an old insurance building. Although several original features inside it was spoilt by the tubular steel ventilation system hang from the ceiling.Tuesday steak night was very good value with two nice rump steaks that were juicy and tender. Where else could you get steak, chips and a pint for <£9 each

Had the rump steak which I normally find nice at a Wetherspoon restaurant. Service was slow, despite not apparently being busy. Still excellent value for money as a drink was included with the meal

Went for a walk from the hotel and stumbled upon this place. I needed a drink of water so I thought what the hell, let's try the food. I was presently surprised. Being honest its not fine dining, but your not paying for that. What you get it good honest food, the scampi had some texture, the chips were hot and sort of crispy, the peas were cooked properly and the service was good. For £6.70 who can complain. (April 2015)

Myself and three friends visited this establishment at 6.30pm on Thursday 9th April. We ordered a sharing starter, four main courses and two sweets. The starter was nice and good value. However, the main courses were a huge let down. The curry was so spicey it was almost inedible, the portion was very small and there were literally three small piece s of chicken in the bowl. The "large" fish and chips had the smallest piece of fish I have ever been served in a restaurant, which we mentioned to the waiter when he brought it to our table. He just smiled and said he didn't like fish! It wasn't just small, it was so overcooked it was dry, brittle and tasteless. We eventually received our desserts around 9.30pm when we had to go to the bar to ensure what was happening - they had forgotten our table number so just didn't bother bringing the desserts out to find out who had ordered them! All in all this was the worst experience I have had in this type of place and, needless to say, I will not be returning. I know they are reasonably priced, but you still pay your money and expect half decent service and properly cooked food of moderate portion size.

I came across this pub when I used to pop in for a post-meeting pint from the offices across the street. It was always relatively peaceful by Wetherspoon standards and always had a good range of beverages with friendly service.Since those days it has always been my "go-to" Wetherspoon's when in Glasgow, be it for breakfast, snacks or mainly for an afternoon session to get away from the crowded streets. This past weekend, despite being Easter and unusually busy on Saturday afternoon, was another pleasurable experience! Keep up the good work guys!

I went here with some colleagues from work for lunch. It is one of the nicer Wetherspoons I have visited, in terms of interior and atmosphere. The staff were all really friendly, helpful and good fun. They really made it a good experience. The food is the same as you would get at any other Wetherspoons but it was brought out really quickly and was hot and reasonably tasty. Prices were quite reasonable for what we all had. I would come back to this Wetherspoons over others due the great service we received from the staff.

Went here on a Thursday afternoon/evening for a couple of drinks and some food.Drinks reasonably priced, bar staff friendly and served you quickly. We decided to have some food, as it was Thursday the curry club was on offer, I went for the large curry which was meant to be a curry, rice, naan bread, mango chutney, poppadaum, onion bhaji and samosa, our food arrived, mine minus, naan bread, mango chutney, onion bhaji and samosa! We checked the receipt to make sure we had asked/paid for the large curry which we had, went to the bar and explained what was missing. A short time later a bhaji and samosa arrived, no naan bread or mango chutney, there was a strong burning smell and I broke open both the bhaji and samosa to find the inside completely black and burned. Another trip to the bar and showed the cremated food that had been served, was told to have a seat and they would sort it, by the time a fresh bhaji and samosa arrived we had finished our food, an apology was given by the waiting staff and that was it, still no naan bread or mango chutney which we paid for, overall rather disappointing end to what had been an enjoyable afternoon

Came in for some breakfast with a friend which was fine. We stayed later than expected and had some lunch before the lunchtime rush, however this was very poor. Both out meals were served at different times and the rare steak I had ordered was in fact well done there was also very little on the plate. Our table then went uncleared for 90mins I know it was a busy Friday lunchtime but its not what I expected as all other wetherspoons I have been in I have had excellent service

Whilst on a visit we wanted a quick and cheap breakfast this didn't disappoint on the cheap however, the breakfast appeared to be deep fried and not very well done at that! I spent the rest of the day tasting breakfast as I couldn't shake off the indigestion this caused. It is what it is but there are 100% better cafes that only charge £1 more for a breakfast, just search on trip advisor, we did for our next 2 days!

My mum & Dad went for a quick bite to eat here tonight. Had to wait 40 minutes for the food to be served and the waitress said it was due to another member of staff accidentally turning the cooker off. When the food finally came there were barely any chips on the plate with the chicken. Was given one glass of draught coke/Pepsi between 2 as an apology - why not a glass each?Have been plenty of times before for a drink and sometimes a bite to eat & has been good but this was extremely disappointing and off putting for any future visits,

Good value for lunch. Soft drinks not bad value, but "skoosh" (out of a tap) diet Pepsi - not that great.Food and service efficient. Some info for a new customer explaining you have to go to the bar to order. Take a note of your table number before you go. Conundrum, particularly for women customers. Do you take your coat, handbag and/or shopping at the table before you go to the bar to order, or do you leave them to secure the table?Otherwise, good value for money.

We opted for the 3 sharer dishes for a tenner and wondered if we would have enough to share between two for lunch. Our fears were unfounded. The three plates of food served were of ample size and excellent quality. Not only that, Robert, the young lad who brought out the food, was friendly and brought out wet wipes for our fingers without us asking. Great service.

Nice enough place inside, good location, food can be good but service can be dreadful at times. Recently went in for lunch and the young blonde serving was hopeless. Unfortunately it's the service in here that lets this one down as it could be really good.

Work nearby so end up spending a lot of time & money in this pub. Always a struggle to get served on a Friday night. Was in last week, waited over 20 mins at mobbed bar, people came and went all around me whilst i was ignored. Finally the 'team leader' asked who's next? The line of folk next to me gestured to me and the guy said 'naw' and served someone who'd just arrived at the bar. Whether he meant naw i dont like her or naw im not very good at my job so i didn't realise she'd been standin there all that time I don't know. Completely ignorant anyway and unfortunately something i experience too often here. Get their business too easy due to location. We left immediately after this, not wanting to spend any money in the place, went to the Admiral round the corner where we immediately got served. Will avoid going back, if u want gd service and an atmosphere on a Friday night, go to the Admiral or elsewhere.

Niceish place, always busy, pretty cheap. No music on tho which is a bit of a disappointment, however I don't think any of the wetherspoons play music. All in all, not a bad place to come at all! Especially if you plan to plead up to Bath St/Suchiehall St.

No volveríamos

Worst shawarma I’ve ever had. I grew up with the best Lebanese/Middle Eastern food outside of the old country in Dearborn, Michigan. I enjoy pushing the envelope a bit with the cooks up King Street and Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, and while a bit greasy, that food is all right. Shawarma Boy? Man: you gotta grow up. It’s clear that the food is hanging on its laurels with jalapeños, chilli…and zero taste underneath. For £13 for a wrap and chips, I expect a lot more than a tiny wrap which was made wrong in the first place - not okay for someone to order food without stuff to then have half the junk on it...I mean, get it together. The worst chicken shawarma I’ve ever tasted in the entire world can be found at Shawarma Boy in the Barras - Calton, Glasgow at BAaD. It's awful. Avoid.
