A fascinating exhibition of new work by Cambridge born, London based artist Ian Rawlinson. The exhibition runs from 5th October - 1st November 2024 at the Edge Café. The preview takes place on Saturday 5th October from 6.30 - 8.00pm. REFRACTOR is an exploration of collective memory as seen through East Anglia's military past. Prints and collages are inspired by connections to places and structures in North West Norfolk. Rawlinson adds intrusions and abstractions to the images, drawing out the notion that these places are portals where different timelines meet. The EDGE CAFÉ is open Mon - Sat 09.00 -16.00

The Brookfield medical campus is a bit of a maze but parking is free and there is this lovely café by the entrance. I had soup which tasted home made accompanied by some fresh brown bread (not sliced). A much better option than the choices at the main Addenbrookes site

A fascinating exhibition of new work by Cambridge born, London based artist Ian Rawlinson inspired by place and memory. The exhibition runs from 3rd - 28th October 2022 at the Edge Café. The preview takes place on Saturday 1st October from 5.30 - 8.00pm. JUNCTURE is the latest in a series of solo exhibitions inspired by Ian Rawlinson’s hometown of Cambridge. The imagery is drawn from places which have remained intact since the artist’s childhood, despite significant changes in the city. Prints and collages depict fragments of this vanishing landscape. His personal history is an influence on the work and the search to find images which provoke a sense of resonance form part of an ongoing investigation into ideas of place and memory. In this latest series of works, Rawlinson uses adjusted and abstracted stills from his films, together with encroaching black forms, reductive marks and gritty textures, suggesting ideas of fragmentation and loss. The café is open Mon - Sat 9.00am - 4.00pm.

Decent coffee and price very reasonable, only thing that let it down was a too-hard gluten free cookie.

Great coffee and brownie. Hard to find decent quality coffee in this city but the mocha I had definitely impressed me, will be back again for it. And the baked goods looked very nice — decided on a brownie which was very good quality as well. Staff were friendly as well

Definitely one of my favourite places in Cambridge. Situated at the end of Mill Road on hospital grounds is this gem. While its primary function may be to cater for hospital patients and visitors, it actually is a great place to go for a coffee and some snack. I come here regularly to get some work done (free wifi!). The coffee is all right (not more...), and the food is surprisingly nice, especially the Granola breakfast and the English breakfast. And added bonus is that they employ people with learning difficulties, all of whom try very hard and are very friendly. Okay, it is not haute cuisine and the atmosphere is nothing like the Ritz. But it is honest, with honest prices and doing good as well. I will be here for many happy returns!

I had heard a.lot about their signature Brownies and I have to say they didn't let me down so chocolatey and hit the spot for any chocolate lover. The cafe is warm and the staff polite and welcoming. A friendly, relaxed place with a unique communal atmosphere. Unlike many other cafes on Mill road, the place itself and the tables are rather spacious. We took a guest from Europe here to have the English breakfast experience. There are several sizes and varieties, all reasonably priced. It was quite nice, but the bacon was not crispy enough.
