This small, Portuguese-influenced bakery has some unusual offerings. Liked the coconut macrons, danish pastries, while the fruited bun was slightly too dry. The Portuguese tarts should be interesting. Updated with savoury vegetarian pastries, also good. Prices a slightly lower than most other bakeries, and service is always friendly.

We've been going to Adilia's bakery for a while now (4 years) and have enjoyed her maize and honey broa, veggie puff pastries, veggie sandwiches (hummus and roast veg is my fav), sourdough, tomato foccacia and the various types of qeijada. Last year, I was at a birthday party and the host mentioned that they also did birthday cakes. I usually bake these myself but for a recent event, I didn't have much time and dropped in to see if Adilia could help. She was very happy to at fairly short notice (3 days) and left us with 20 very happy guests. The cost of the cake being lower than M&S and other bakeries meant we could spend the money on 6 boxes of fresh summer berries, all of which went down a treat. We are very grateful to Adilia and her team for the cake and taking the stress out of our party. Please see picture for the pretty cake !

Although my visits are largely for bread the cakes are also excellent. Genuine Portuguese style mixed with a friendly welcome make this a real asset for the locals and foreign visitors to the area. There is always a temptation to walk to Mill Road for slightly cheaper produce but I think most people who can will pay the extra for quality. Try the sourdoughs for starters. Then a mini beef roll. And, of course, the custard tarts - pasteis de nata.

On first impression it was great. We loved the atmosphere and artwork inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful initially when I asked about the menu. However when we received our order there had been a miss communication regarding one of the plates of food. From them taking the order and the kitchen preparing it, to it then being served. Honestly as someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for years from floor staff to management - I was shocked at how we were spoken to when we asked for it to be amended. The person who came to us and asked what we ordered denied that we had order it a certain way in the first place. Upon us saying that we had certainly ordered it GF they pulled a face. - This whole interaction felt very confrontational. Next we could see that member of staff behind the counter talking to the other members of staff and pointing at our table. Of course I understand that you are communicating to the team but it honestly felt unnecessary to repeatedly point and frankly it's rude. Needless to say a different member of staff then approach us to say it was being made which we thanked them for. I can quite easily say that I do not often feel the need to leave reviews and normally if I do it's because it's been a great experience. And this was until we were made to feel that we were being unreasonable. This was our first time in The Locker Cafe - seriously not a great impression.
