Food was good but service and atmosphere better. Location a bit of the beaten path.

Really nice location with nice food. We had the duck wrap and garlic bread. We were sitting at the picnic tables outside and therefore had to order inside. The food came very fast. It was lovely.

This is a lovely country pub with free parking the staff are all very nice and helpful the food is wonderful, you can sit indoors and outdoors plenty of room the garden and the lights of an evening is beautiful.

As someone with significant knowledge of the hospitality and service industries I just wanted to say a big thank you to all involved at the Duke of York last night for providing wonderful service and excellent food! Our large, (and a little loud), party of 20+ (mainly members of nearby Dyrham Golf Club) were all very impressed with every aspect of the evening. Despite the significant variety of food orders you guys nailed it 100%, nothing missed, nothing returned to kitchen. Back of house sent everything out in a very timely back to back fashion which is no easy feat for those in the know. Bar orders with the running tab went swimmingly well and every member of staff excelled.

We popped in just for a a cup of coffee and a bit of pud. The cappuccino was great , so was the bread and butter pudding.

Our experience at the Duke of York pub was truly elevated thanks to the exceptional service provided by Francesca. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail of our evening was perfect. Her warm demeanor and professionalism stood out, and she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It’s rare to find such outstanding customer service, and we’ll definitely be returning because of Francesca’s fantastic effort. Highly recommend!

Normally a great pub, but must’ve been having an off day on Sunday - service was all off, the food was all either under or overcooked. Overall a really poor experience this time.

Delicious food, cosy, attractive ambience

Really enjoyed the meal we had last night. The food was delicious, the staff very helpful and friendly and the Adnams Bitter a welcome change to the McMullens ales that are sold in most pubs around here. For me, a big plus was the fact that the music in the Duke of York was quiet. Most pubs and restaurants assume that everyone wants to hear music while they are eating. Personally, I'd rather not particularly when the music being played grates on you. Would definitely recommend.

Stumbled across this pub by mistake! Glad I did! Very nice and so is their fish n chips. Please when we go in there you always have an empty bottle of Johnny Walker! Please re-stock!

This place is beyond a joke… been here a few times foods good. Come here this evening (Xmas eve) with family and the in laws as we haven’t spent Xmas with them in a while and so thought we would book this place… we was seated then waited 25 minutes with no on coming to take our order so I had to go up and get someone which they wasn’t happy about, after taking our order we waited another half hour which I then had to get up a second time to ask where our drink was, the small Asian girl was really rude and replied “shes busy” which I then replied “so what are you doing” she huffed and said I will do it give me 5 more minutes. The drinks finally came. We waited another 45 minutes and there was no sign of food so I had to go up a 3rd time to ask what was going on and they said 15 more minutes so we waited. Another 20 minutes had passed and so we decided to just get up and leave, we went to the bar to pay for the drinks where a tall white women I believe she’s the manager asked what the problem was I then said we have been waiting for a very long time and people who seated after us have eaten and already left and so we wish to pay for our drinks and leave. The lady said this is the way things are here and sorry if you don’t like it but it is what it is I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was in so much shock I paid the bill which she didn’t take off the service charge when I didn’t have any service at all…. I would avoid this place at all costs it’s gone down hill. Such a shame it used to be a nice spot. Better off getting a uber eats like we did. No stars from me.

Great time. Some of our group arrived late because of M25 issues, but this was not a problem. The pub is dog friendly and we like this.

Food was good but very dissapointed by the vegetarian offering. I choose a vegetarian pie it was full of potatoe and not much else. It was served with mashed potatoe. So my meal was a plate of over priced mashed potatoe.

Fantastic service, excellent food and attentive staff. A very good experience had by all of us. Would recommend to all my friends for a good meal and an enjoyable time.

Please adjust the menu to give accurate info - you don't have custard as an option but it is available if you ask - winter days & comfort puddings really need custard as not everyone wants ice cream in the winter! Also it would be good if you explained on the mains that all dishes come with veg as it reads as if they don't but you don't have greens etc as an optional extra so its a bit confusing - staff have to explain to everyone. The food is amazing & I rarely get such perfectly cooked veg ( v important!) we had a delicious meal thank you..

Great pub, great food and great ale. Nice rural area but close enough to Barnet to get to from London. Gardens nice with covered canopy for wet and hot days.

A very nice spacious pub with good overall service.

After being refused to do a simple but such an important to us favour, even the food tasted worse than what it actually was and the atmosphere just lost its magic. I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations.

Lovely pub, first visit here with a large group. Welcoming staff who also provided excellent customer service. Good menu, had the steak, ale and mushroom pie which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The hot drink and mini dessert was popular and they weren't even that mini! Staff were very accommodating.

Really dissapointed in my visit. Felt so unwelcome. The table I had to sit at was reserved. And I was made aware of that from the moment I entered. The place was packed, loud and busy. Because I was unable to sit for food I decided to stay for a drink (which was terribly priced) but as I was drinking I had 2 different bar staff REMIND ME I needed to free the table by a certain time. It unfortunately made my stop quite upsetting, I felt very rushed and unwelcome.... I wish I didn't even spend any money there to be honest. Such a shame..

The Duke of York was very busy for a Thursday lunch time. Obviously a very popular pub with ample seating space inside and outside. The staff were all very efficient and very pleasant, the atmosphere was good, and the food was tasty. Would definitely recommend.

The roast dinner delivered on flavour and generous portions. The meats and veggies were delicious, though the roast potatoes, unfortunately, seemed reheated and lacked the freshness you'd hope for. The highlight was the sticky toffee pudding, which was simply amazing. Service was great with helpful and cheerful staff who went above and beyond to ensure a great experience

Come here regularly for dinner. Lovely food and great service. Burger, fish and chips and the chicken wings are our standard orders

Nice atmosphere but the roast potatoes tasted like they had been cooked left then heated up in a microwave they were not crispy or fluffy (disgusting), I mentioned this and was given more which were the same we left them and mentioned again when we had finished nothing was said very disappointing will not go again.

Excellent first time at Duke of York today, the food was plentiful and of excellent quality. The roast options are superb and you get a great big plate of delicious British food. Gravy is rather good, you can ask for more. Starters/Nibbles were interesting and tasty.

Great Atmosphere- they had a live singer -

Food didn't come as seen on the menu, pie was meant to come with beans & redcurrant sauce but came with kale & ordinary gravy. Also my friend ordered her steak with salad & it still came with chips. Cute little dog left to run free outside in the terrace/garden but unfortunately shat in the garden & no one cleared up.

A full plate of high quality food. Visited on a Sunday. The menu is great containing kids and vegetarian options. Dessert choices are exceptional.

We were a party of 12 and had a lovely evening overall, however the steak meal was disappointing as the steak was far too tough.and I gave it to my dog as I didn’t want it wasted. I couldn’t complain as it was a celebration meal and did not feel it was appropriate.

Giving one star purely based on the service I received the last time I went with my daughter. I will not go into the whole incident but the person serving almost scalded my daughter with carelessness and was extremely arrogant about it. Left me and her very upset. If the management care enough they will get in touch.

I generally never leave reviews, finding instead that my regular continued custom is evidence enough of my satisfaction with a business. However, the experience tonight is worthy of a review. We’re a family of three with a 4 year old and my wife is pregnant. We have been to the Duke of York multiple times, each experience has been as good as the last. Tonight, however, after placing our order and after something like 45 mins, I enquired as to how much longer our food would be. Disappointingly, it had not been put through the system! The staff were polite, but I was not satisfied with the initial apology and asked to speak to the manager. Manager (Chris) came and spoke with me. He was understanding, apologetic and dealt with the situation very well which completely disarmed me with a kind gesture to make things right. Food came out shortly afterwards and was as always, delicious. Pleased to say the Duke of York will continue to be one our favourite places to eat out at, in the area.

We went to this place hoping for a lovely time as it was a special occasion but unfortunately we were let down, the service was terrible even though there seemed quite a lot of staff on duty. We waited quite along time for drinks and food even though it was not particularly busy, we had to ask for more drinks which took a while, the food was average at best please try other venues first

If you want really very good food at a really good price point, with excellent service and a pleasant (and dog-friendly) atmosphere - come here. If however you want sub standard slop thrown at you by surly staff, go somewhere else! Love it here. Never had a bad meal. TINY issue with a chipped glass - no big deal, but highlighted - to receive a replacement glass and a bottle of plonk on the house to apologise. Classy. If you are coeliac or just fashionably gluten-free cos you don't like the bloaty bloat, I have rarely been anywhere where there is a such a vast choice of GF options. It's great. Go. Just go.

Nice pub, but were clearly massively understaffed both across the waiting team, as well as the kitchen - this was at 7:45pm on a Friday It took 40mins for our drinks to arrive, nearly an hour for our starters. The food was not, in my opinion, worth the prices being charged and was luke warm.

We had booked pur dinner between friends as it had been quite a while and it's hard to find time. We arrived at 7:30 promptly and given a few people had complained due to the long wait we swiftly ordered drinks (which took over 30 minutes to arrive) we also ordered food quickly (7:55) we ordered a starter and a main. The starter arrived at 08:52, after this our mains the arrived around 9:50. 2 of the mains were warm-cold (hot plate warm food but they were so hungry we didnt want to say anything given the time) By now a few of the party were getting restless due to time commitments. Finally we opted for desert which was redeeming as the coffee was nice and desert was also lovely. There clearly seems to be: 1. An over booking issue. 2. Understaffed issue. Given the above I think it's wise to give it some time before our return.

We had the private dining room which was great for a friends birthday. It was exceptionally warm and the manager arranged a fan immediately when we asked. The food was very nice and the service was great, particularly Finn who is always friendly, attentive and very personable 👍🏻

10 of us had Sunday lunch (7 adults and 3 children under 4). The pub was packed but the service was excellent. The manager said they work hard to ensure they have enough staff for the busy weekend shifts It is typical good pub food and we all enjoyed our meals. We like the staff at the Duke of York they are always very pleasant and helpful. It is an enjoyable experience to be in a busy pub with great atmosphere. Three of us just had lunch on a beautiful summer's day under the canopy at the pub. Ideal. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the fish and chips was very good. It was pretty busy for a Thursday lunch time which shows what a popular place it is

Even though it was fathers day and extremely busy the service was exemplary the food was delicious and also reasonably priced. The outside area was perfect for me and my family. We will be back.Thank you

Let me begin with my experience of the toilets. As I walk in a smell hits my nose and I think to myself what's that smell?? well its clear to say its the ocean of piss on the floor and the poo stain on top of the right toilet on the ceiling also spit on the floor and walls. what a disgrace. Furthermore, I ordered food took 4 hours to come for a family of 3.PATHETIC!. What a let down. The employees were hostile especially the bold one who looks quite like my uncle Andrew. Anyways moving on to the positives. wait there aren't any. Food was vile had a vomit taste, left me in there disgusting unholy toilets for half the experience. I asked for coke they gave me root beer, disgusting, bitter and vile. Moving on, Dessert should be tasty right? Well you guessed wrong it wasn't it was horrid bitter and inedible, chocolate cake looks like something my dog threw up after smelling the toilet. 1 Star for everything. No Regret!

I will first start by staying I have previously attended this venue on multiple accounts. However this time was unlike any other. As I entered I was met with an extreme displeasure to my nose due to a noticeable bag of waste which had been left unattended at the entrance. After slowly waiting to be seated with my family, the employees didnt decided to offer a menu. After around 30 minutes we were finally given an opportunity to order are food and we ordered the weekly special of beef stew. As I was waiting for the food with my family I ventured to the toilets which were not labelled for males and females. As I opened the door a unavoidable smell of urine and human droppings filled the air. I could also not help to ignore the strange elderly man who was sat on top of the bin with his trousers in the sink. As I looked around at the unexpected mess which I had just stepped into the strange man I had previously mentioned began to let out worrying noises which led me to flee out the door. As I returned to my family I noticed we had still not received are food after 3 hours. As I demanded for better customer service to the employees I couldn't help but notice a bald man behind to bar urinating in the beers. Overall if I could give it a 0 I would, absolutely horrible and keep your children far away from this.

A very quiet Monday, but great food and service. We regularly use it as a meeting place with friends and family.

I have used this venue for several years and for the first time I'm highly disappointed. I will list out my reasons. 1. Bottled water supplied at the begining of the meal, glass top with calcium on inside and not cleaned properly. 2. Thin cut chips were burnt or re-heated for the several members of the dinner party. 3. Large cut chips were undercooked on another. 4. For the purpose not to Identify, I don't appreciate it when I have to be told my tip options are at the bottom of the card reader. My intention was to tip regardless. The quality of the food appears to have dropped significantly. I didn't challenge which leaves my option to critique your service.

Food was very nice, service very good staff very friendly. All the food was hot and served well, prices were top end but l thought worth the money they also give a voucher for a return visit this l will use as l consider the venue is worth another visit.

Had such a lovely time in this place. Really excellent menu and fully gluten free and non gluten free food. I had a very tasty fish and chips. Good atmosphere and great service too.

Very nice atmosphere and attentive staff food was good and portions were big (for us girls &kids). Only I would say that was off-putting was the parking g and directions to tjmhe pub, they weren't that clear to get to the pub and once there the parking was limited unless I missed something...as was first time there, there than that lovely place.

Son treated me to an early Mother's Day lunch, we had the squid as a starter (absolutely delicious) then the Sunday roast beef with porchetta and all the trimmings, followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice-cream. Food was lovely, well presented and very tasty. Service was great too, already planning to go back with my husband 😊
