A beautiful and characteristic place, spacious and vibrant, with a friendly and amazing staff. The food quality is exceptional, featuring organic ingredients and creative dishes with unusual flavor combinations that always harmonize perfectly. We visit regularly, and last time I particularly enjoyed their burrata with pickled cherrie and the lamb with caponata and pesto. Their Sunday roast is something special

I had very bad expectations of this place, it honestly the price-food quality found it quite disappointing. We ordered the lamb, fish of the day, crab toast and tomato salad which were pretty average, and for these three dishes plus a couple of drinks we payer £110. I think overall the lack of flavours was probably the biggest expectations misalignment, especially when taking about a place that serves organic food. Service was great, we arrived when the kitchen was about to close and the very happily served us food.

Update 2024: We went there for dinner, the prices are all hiked, instead of just ordering at the bar you have to wait forever until they come pick your order, it feels more like a city of London restaurant than a rustic lovely place and the quality I am now unsure about. The crab toast was horrible, a bunch of leaky substances on soggy bread. Our other dishes were good but not amazing as it used to be It has changed a lot, it gives you the feeling it was bought by an asset management company and they are just cutting corners increasing profit. Expect 28£+ for a Roast Pre 2023: It's not cheap, but I am happy to pay for this quality. Rotating both their wines and dishes, providing great variety with a quite exotic combination and a full of flavour both for meat and vegetarian Expect between 13-16 for a main

Firstly, Robert went above and beyond to enable that the gathering went smoothly. Friendly communication and great organisation. It wasn't a big occasion, only 22 people, but we were able to have exclusive use of the conservatory for the evening. This area was was perfect for a afternoon cuppa tea, glass of fizz with speeches, and then three course meal. The food was good and there was plenty of it! It's fair to say that this place is a solid 3-star experience. As a self-proclaimed Sunday Roast aficionado, I decided to book a table here with some friends to try something new, drawn in by the fantastic reviews. The restaurant itself is spacious and inviting, with a friendly atmosphere and accommodating staff, making for a relaxed dining experience. However, as a roast aficionado, I was a bit let down by the limited options on the menu. With only two choices available, I couldn't satisfy my craving for the lamb roast I'd heard so much about. And then there's the pricing – it's definitely on the steep side. While I understand the value of using organic ingredients and supporting sustainable practices, £28 for a chicken roast (without the bone) or £11 for a glass of wine feels like a bit of a stretch. Despite these drawbacks, our visit was enjoyable overall. Just be prepared to dig deep into your pockets for a standard Sunday roast!

As a fan of Sunday Roasts, I decided to try it out with friends for the first time. The place has a nice, spacious atmosphere and friendly staff. However, as someone who enjoys variety, I was disappointed by the limited roast options – only two were available, and I was really craving lamb or pork. Additionally, the prices seemed excessive, especially £28 for a chicken roast without the bone, or £11 for a glass of wine. Despite these drawbacks, our visit was pleasant, but expect a hefty bill for a typical Sunday roast experience!

Amazing food, such attention to ingredients and all perfectly merged textures and tastes! Such flavour from various vegetables is rare to find. With temperature and technique they extract such depth of flavour from every bit. The grilled asparagus, the romesco sauce, the seeds and the nuts, the cauliflower, the potatoes, everything was a brushstroke of excitement. Brilliant. But the noise level was a bit too much on an evening. Go for the side room if you want to have a chat over dinner.

Been here twice "in a row" - dinner and lunch. Ambience is a bit on the "shabby chique"-side - though reduced colours and calm atmosphere are very welcome in comparison to traditional pubs with a large palette of schemes. Furniture is not very inviting, no cushions, just hard wooden chairs on not very much decorated naked wooden tables. Real tissue serviettes, though. Menu is clearly most vegetarian or vegan. Dishes are very well portioned are prepared with a really good view on the seasoning side - for Germans there is alack of salt, but that's the way british recipies work. Everything can be ordered "to share" which makes it more likely that orders are not beyond guests capacities. Presentation is rather frugal on the plate but the tastes are very well balanced and sometimes rather couragous on the spicy side. Drinks menu is on the blackboard, beers are well kept and all bio-oriented. The UBU ale is a bit too "bready" in taste to invite for more than two but the biodynamic lager is a delight. Pricewise very ambitious with a clear range above normal pub pricing plus a service charge of additional 12,5 %. That equals to approximately "double what You expect". Dinner with just beers and no cocktails can easily reach over 80 GBP for two and even the "low price"-offer for lunch with three courses for 20 GBP ends with a bill of around 60 GBP in the end for two. It's not an address I would see regularly due to this slightly exaggerated pricing but it's always worth a visit to see and taste modern british kitchen - once in a while.

After Covid everything has gone down hill. Family, friends and I used to drink here for many years. Birthdays, events and gatherings. Food has become much more minute, much less delicious- corner cutting. Along with this, no longer will you see a tangible hand written menu to entice you to your meal. I asked the manger why do you no longer write the menu on the chalk board, he then dropped a shoddy ‘new menu’ on a sheet of paper on the table. He said ‘It takes too long.’ All these touches and details used to matter. It symbolises lack of care, with no enthusiasm anymore. You’ve lost a good group of customers. You have become more of a fast food chain.

After wanting to try this pub for a long time we were unfortunately disappointed with our evening meal. Extremely overpriced for what you get as they are very small portions. The chicken and leek pie in a tiny dish was £20 (served as a separate dish in a larger bowl to make it seem bigger!) but was majority potato and the fish of the day dish was in a luke warm broth. The much needed sides were served 5 minutes after the mains courses. The ambience is lovely, servers are friendly and there is a good selection of beers and wine but given the price and quality of the food, I won’t be coming back in a hurry.

Spent an enjoyable couple of hours over lunch with family. The food was in general good but… come on guys, if you charge, say, 12 pounds for some sliced ham (coppa), would be best to serve more than about eight thin slices or so. Hospitality is about generosity… this felt the opposite of that! Also the sticky toffee pudding and crumble not great for 8 pounds each. The sticky toffee not all that sticky or toffee-y! And the crumble, skin the apples! Service also erred on the “ignore” side… drinks etc very slow to come, plates stayed on table for ages. So all in all I don’t know if I’d recommend this place… had high hopes, too!!

I was so disappointed with this meal. The atmosphere is very buzzy and the staff are very attentive but the food was home cooking standard for me. Really basic. I’ve been before and has a lovely roast. This time I had a miserable looking fillet of pollock on a bed of leeks with potato (3 shavings of potato 2x2cm) in a shellfish sauce that tasted like it was marinading for 30 seconds. It was really dark and we didn’t take any photos but our food looked so unattractive… nothing like some of the other review photos. Beware! My other friends at the table were disappointed in their dishes too (fish, a bland veggie dish and a burnt sticky toffee pudding). I’m amazed at the price tag on these dishes - yay for the organic and sustainability efforts - boo for the complete lack of culinary wow! We fed back to the waiting staff in a really chilled and kind manner. Hopefully things will improve but I won’t be returning.

I think the best way to describe the Duke is gourmet dining meets cozy family dining with a strong environmental mission. The food is so good that 9 plates out of 10 are basically licked clean. It’s all organic, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients with options for everyone (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and meat and sea food lovers) all while not being overwhelming with too many choices. The staff is super kind and warm and at the slightest rare mistake or discontent they really care to fix it. Even all the customers are lovely and many become regulars. Big disappointment after so many dinners here in the last years. I think the management changed recently as the quality of raw ingredients, cooking and service dropped massively compared to the past years. We chose the pork ribs which were served cold and dry. The kids pasta was cold as well with very little tomato sauce, a real joke (it’s my children favorite dish but for the first time they did not finish it.. we had to order extra bread instead). The service was awful: dirty plates left on the table carelessly even when the main dish was served, very long waiting time for each course and inattentive staff. Atmosphere and decor are great as well as the location and the beers choice, but it’s not worth it given the high prices and poor quality/ service. Such a shame as it was a place of the heart for our family.

Ridiculous prices. £29.80 for this plate which is somehow named a “roast”. It should be a crime in this country to serve a Sunday roast without roast potatoes and the traditional trimmings. The £1.50 Yorkshire on the side, however, should be sent to the The Hague for war crimes. When people book for a roast, they have a very specific thing in mind. The Duke of Cambridge is located in Shoreditch, neighborhood of London and is Britain’s first organic pub. Had the Sunday roast and the burned orange polenta cake as well as some sourdough bread and it was delicious! There is outdoors and indoors seating and the staff is attentive and friendly. I made a reservation on their site but it did not seem necessary. To get to the pub, you can take a nice walk alongside the canals nearby. Great spot to relax and have an afternoon out with friends over delicious food.
