We were there only for cake and we were both disappointed. My "cheesecake" was very dry. Every mouthful was a struggle. The apple strudel was bland and the pastry was soggy.

Breakfast was cold, bacon undercooked, sausage hard to chew… we v tried many Austrian and German restaurants in london and this one truly underperform… came here a few times thinking to give them another chance but the food quality was consistently poor…. And the service was even worse, especially the young lady who happened to serve us twice and always gave wrong info, indifferent attitude and ignorant throughout. If you want true Austrian food go to Notting Hill there is one lower ground restaurant (can’t remember the name) with live music, super super nice home made food and hearty service, that’s what you called a real german Austrian experience.

This is a wonderful corner of Austria on Camden Passage. My daughter-in-law, born in Vienna, gives the Frittatensuppe an enthusiastic thumbs up, and I really enjoyed my chicken Wiener Schnitzel. For homesick Austrians and those with good memories of their skiing trips, the deli has great wines as well as Almdudler.

I've been to this restaurant multiple times and have never been let down! Friendly service and relaxing ambience. I love their patisserie offerings, my favourite in particular being the Esterhazytorte. Their brunch options are also really hearty - my recommendation for vegetarians such as myself is the Rosti and egg :). Definitely on the pricier side but I do think it's worth it for authentic Austrian cuisine!

This may be a fab brunch spot, and the location on Camden Passage is great. But our dinner experience was a real let down. The room and the seating may be perfectly acceptable during the day. But in the evening it felt a cramped and a little sloppy. Likewise, the food just didn't match up to our expectations. If you serve dinner, you need to make an effort vary /upgrade the menu, smarten the place up for a night-time crowd and basically make the dining experience feel more special. You can do it, Kipferl!

Had Saturday lunch at Kipferl, we shared a chicken schnitzel which was excellent. I loved the sides and potato salad was good but had too much vinegar to my personal taste. One of the waitress was great and quick service. I tried affogato, but wouldnt recommend. All other desserts looked amazing so worth trying. We were to full to try more. They have a good selection of wines too and an awesome outside area so if it’s warmer Id recommend staying outside. P.s. bathroom could use a little cleaning

UPDATE.... 24/8/24 Have been several times over the last year but as we sit here once again, having completely over indulged in our usual 'gut schmeckendes Essen' followed of course by Sachertorte. I just had to say, it's great to see how busy it is here even in the pouring rain. Consistently good, consistently a great treat. The staff as always, are pleasant, helpful and courteous. It's good to be back. . . Once again I can't help but comment on Kipferl. Sadly we had not been able to visit over the last couple of months. We are not local but we made the journey especially on 24/8/22, for lunch. Is there a reason for returning? Definitely, for the BEST, authentic Austrian food that we know of and I say this with my partner being Austrian. She said that the Wiener Schnitzel was amazing but no matter what we have as our main course, there is only one thing we always have when we visit and that is a slice of Sachertorte. It is the best and probably the only place, outside of the Hotel Sacher, in either Vienna or Salzburg, that truly knows how to make it authentic. Well done Kipferl! A great team of staff who are always helpful and friendly. As regular customers we are already looking forward to our next visit. . . 16/6/22 Have eaten lunch here several times and it has always been excellent. Just finished another and our only complaint was, we wish we could start over! Everything is authentically Austrian as confirmed by my Austrian partner. We have promised ourselves a return visit one evening. She is already asking, when? 🙂

Came here for dinner with a friend, and we both agreed that we need to return because the food is simply amazing. The käsespätzle were definitely our favorite - moreish, cheesy and savoury without being heavy. The wienerschnitzel was light and crunchy, comparable to the ones you'd taste in Viennese cafés. The Sachertorte, too, was as nostalgia-inducing as the rest of the meal - and now I can't wait to be back to try more, especially from the cake selection. Honourable mention for the service, too - the staff is attentive, polite and friendly. Would recommend!

As an Austrian myself I can say with confidence that you get authentic food here. I've been a few times over the years and the food is always delicious. I recently visited this restaurant and had an absolutely terrible experience. The staff was shockingly rude and showed blatant discrimination towards people of colour. Upon arrival, I was told I had to book a seat, despite there being plenty available. After returning 10 minutes later, I was seated but given a ridiculous one-hour time limit, even though it was only 6 pm I ordered a Viennese coffee, which was overpriced at £8.9. When I tried to order another drink nearing 7 pm, the staff abruptly refused service and asked me to leave, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. To add insult to injury, I was charged a service fee for this appalling treatment, resulting in me paying £10.1 for a very normal iced coffee. The level of disrespect and discrimination I experienced as a paying customer was appalling. I came here with a good attempt to spread good words about this restaurant to my colleauges and friends as there are not so many Austrian cafes in central London. I will never set foot in this establishment again, and I strongly advise others to avoid it as well. Management needs to address their staff's behaviour and improve their customer service standards immediately.

Was looking forward to an Austrian meal having been to Austria many times. We were sat in good time and had menus. However the staff then seemed to forget us and after trying to get attention and 15 mins had to go and find them to put in drinks and food orders. Almdudler was great to get. Need normal UK shops to sell this. Schnitzel both chicken and veal were fine. Had better and worse. Rest of the bood was ok but overly salty. Generally it was more street food quality. I have no problem with this but with a bill (with desert) for 5 of over £200 it is definitely not street food priced. Again for desert the menu was dropped off and 15 to 20 mins later had to find someone to take an order. Similar when we wanted to pay.

The staff were lovely, the atmosphere was pleasant, and main dishes like salads, soups, sausages are all fine. Unfortunately, the cake was dry and meh, and had to send back the actual kipferl, which was dry, heavy, stodgy, with an overly yeasty flavour - to quote my 10yo daughter, 'disgusting'. Having had a semmel here years ago which was equally awful, I was shocked to find nothing had improved and the establishment's namesake pastry was so rubbish! As a baker myself who loves (properly made) Austrian baked goods, I would fire whoever bakes here, or send them on a course on how to prove and bake brioche dough properly so it doesn't come out like a yeasty black hole.

I'm an Austrian, born in Vienna and here is what I think. The Frittatensuppe was good, could have been hotter. The Schnitzel was delicious, the Kaiserschmarrn was more like a cake thing with butter and sugar. Tasted alright, but a Kaiserschmarrn is supposed to be heaven and that wasn't heaven. The apple juice was meh. At least I know where to get a Schnitzel if I need one, will come back to review their cakes ;) Atmosphere is great btw!

Ordered the schnitzel, and although krispy, the veal was rather dry. But the shocking disappointment was the basic boiled potatoes buried underneath. They tasted as if they were made maybe a day before. Chalky texture, musty, and flat. Didn't touch them after a bite. If you're going to be serving a meal with such minimal ingredients, take some pride to execute them well.

Loved this place the cocktail is amazing - i would recomend the mixed grill sharing platter - its got a bit of everything and the portion is huge and the service is really good. I will be returning for sure :-)
