I ordered plant based schnitzel and got a regular one and I only found out when I payed…not great tbh and it was 6£ more even

RIP OFF MERCHANTS, advertised prices and then ADDED VAT and a 12.5% service charge for making us a up of coffee! This is Illegal and the cakes were dry and average at best. If you want to pay over 41 pounds for three cups of coffee and a slice of cake, be my guest. I missed the 1.50 for the dollop of cream, it just keeps getting better. To Hubert, I've attached the receipt, which is a total of GBP 41.96. If as per your official response this is incorrect, please credit the amount back to my credit card. As for the 'This is standard for London', no it is not. We bought a cake and coffee, not a lunch or dinner.

Kipferl is my favourite place in London! I love Vienna, but can’t visit it as often as I’d like, so Kipferl is bringing Wien 🇦🇹 to me! The hosts are very friendly and caring and make you feel at home. I’m crazy about their Esterhazytorte, and I can tell from all my heart, that Kipferl has better Sacher Torte then any place I tried in Austria, including Sacher Hotel, sorry, but that’s the truth. My favourite is Wurst, especially Käsekrainer! But everything there will be delicious. It is like stepping through the portal and finding yourself in Austria. I come here on special occasions and I bring here all my friends, local and visiting. I’m also very happy that they sell lots of local Viennese treats that you can’t find anywhere else outside Austria.

Wonderful restaurant! Quirky ski cabin touches but not themey or tacky at all. Quite stylish decor actually. Staff were amazing, so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was excellent. Proper comfort food but nothing was too salty or greasy. Great that there are plenty of veggie / vegan options as well as traditional meat options. We had kale soup and beef goulash to start, which were really good. Vegan weiner sausage with mustard & fresh horseradish was delicious. Veal in creamy sauce with spatzel equally good. Extra spatzel and sautéed potatoes in the side. Too full for pudding. German / Austrian wine list is interesting and not too expensive we had a lovely Reiseling. Highly recommended. Will definitely go back

I've been wanting to visit Kipferl for a couple of years, because it's hard to find proper European-quality cakes in the UK. I had sachertorte with einspänner coffee and they were excellent Now I just need an excuse to make the 200 mile trip to Islington again 😂

Love Kipferl so much! 🩷 It has been a few years since I first discovered Kipferl and I have just loved it so much since. It has been an excellent place to bring family and friends. It is small, but cosy, and the atmosphere is lovely. All the staff are kind, friendly and helpful, and you can tell that they are a close knit team with great passion for their work. The food is absolutely amazing, and the selection of wines, cakes and groceries is top notch - there is so much to choose from. Over the years I have eaten in, taken away, ordered to pick up, and ordered for home delivery - so I have been in touch with every corner of the operation, and I have to say that it has always just been so easy and convenient. Everything Kipferl do they do well - on time, to expectation, and with such kindness! Much love to the whole team! 🌹

Kipferl is an absolute gem of a cafe/restaurant. The team's warmth is as impressive as their incredible cuisine. Every dish is crafted with passion and precision, creating an authentic Austrian dining experience that feels both exceptional and wonderfully intimate. Lovely pastries from vienne. Didn’t expect einspanner to be served here, but enjoyed it here. They also have lovely produce from austria.

I grew up in a Jewish Hungarian household and I have to admit I was really disappointed with my schnitzel and the Jewish apple cake. Both very dry and expensive. The apple cake in particular really felt like it had been made 5 days before or so and they were trying to sell it despite it being old. The potato salad was GREAT though. Kind staff, friendly atmosphere, but again- I just don’t know if the main food and price made it worth it.

Such a fab place. Super food. But, what stood out was the service. Great people working there. So friendly, professional, and accommodating.

We only went in for drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, but charming. There is nothing extra in the food, but you can have a comfortable time and sip your coffee with interesting cakes.

What a disappointing place, especially after all the positive reviews I've seen! I had a booking for dinner - I arrived 15 minutes early, and stood in the doorway by the sign that said to wait to be seated. There were three servers walking around near the door - granted, they were serving other tables, but they completely ignored me and refused to even acknowledge me standing there, even when they weren't serving others. After an awkwardly long time of being ignored, I had to chase down one of the servers to ask for my booked table. They seemed almost angry that I'd asked, which was really offputting and unwelcoming. Once I was seated, they shoved a pile of menus on the table and walked away without a word or smile. To be honest, I can excuse poor service if the food is good. But here, the food was completely average, which was very disappointing considering it was expensive. My tip: save your money and buy the food from Lidl's Alpine week. It's much better and more flavourful - and it'll cost less than the price of a slice of stale Sachertorte at Kipferl. Nice and cosy restaurant interior in a cute alleyway, but that's the main thing going for it. The aloof service and low quality food soured the evening, and it was very galling to have to pay 12.5% service charge for a subpar experience (you pay via QR code, so you can't really ask them to remove it).

This is a rare gem in a unique laneway, the moment you step inside it feels like someone has wrapped a soft cosy blanket around you. The atmosphere is relaxed, warm and inviting. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. If that's not enough, the food is authentic and delicious. While I grew up in Australia, I have German parents and know what German style food is like from my Mum's home cooking. Austrian food is very similar and I have to admit, it was damn good! Well worth a visit just for the wonderful experience and even better food!

This place is one of our neighbourhood gems - it always has such a super and casual atmosphere, it serves quality food and we loved the new burger addition which has been made part of the menu (with the Austrian twist, of course!). We had a really nice evening at Kipferl on Saturday and the food is reasonably priced no matter what time of day you decide to dine which is a rare find. Thank you for being one of our favourite local eateries and we look forward to supporting you in the years ahead!

We wanted to visit this place for a long time and we were not dissapointed! I loved the omelette and the einspänner. My sister said the Eszterhazy cake was a bit dry, however.

Good, unpretentious food that stills feels special: hearty but not heavy, traditional but not old-fashioned. Ate here with my partner and the Rindsgulasch was absolutely delicious as was the Apfelkuchen and the salmon and the avocado starter was light and wonderfully refreshing. Kipferl is a gem, there aren’t many restaurants like it anymore.

I visited on Feb 24th. Was welcomed with a smile, service was just the right amount of attention and being left to relax as a solo traveller. I had a very tasty omelette with extra weiner and the Esterhazytorte, probably the most satisfying cake I’ve ever had. I was offered help to choose a cake and it was good to see the staff be genuinely enthusiastic about the food. Have to say the staff really made my visit enjoyable and I can’t wait to visit again

Really enjoyed the cosy atmosphere with super tasty Austrian food, and the fact that you don’t have to miss out as a veggie/vegan makes it even better! The team were attentive and kind, checking in with us regularly and greeting us with a smile. Will have to come back for the cakes, they looked delicious!

We actually surprised to find such a great restaurant randomly, the food was really fresh and high quality, the salmon was best! Drinks were very good, cake was fresh! We really enjoyed every things there!

Situated in a hidden but very pretty passage in Islington, Kipferl is a small but cozy restaurant and patisserie serving traditional, authentic Austrian dishes. The food selection is a little small but carefully chosen, and the wine and cake selection is pretty large. Staff are very kind and helpful, especially the two waiters who helped me with my cake order both over the phone and in the restaurant. All the cakes in the patisserie look delicious and the few I have tried have been fantastic. If you come looking to buy a cake or other delicatessen items, it is advised to ring ahead of time to check or instead order online as not all items are available in store.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Kipferl yesterday. We had booked a table for 4 in advance and were given the best seats in the restaurant which was a pleasure. The service was kind, attentive and quick. The food was absolutely delicious, and I was particularly impressed by their cake selection! We are looking forward to going back soon.

Wow, what a let down. I really love Austrian food, and actually enjoyed frequenting this place back in 2017-2018 when we were living in London. We were back in London this weekend, and decided to go back, but the quality has declined dramatically. We had brought friends to the place as well, and were quite ashamed that no one enjoyed the food after we had hyped it up. The chicken schnitzel was dry and was quite bland. I can get a more tasty schnitzel in Lidl.. Same story for the grostl, which I really loved in Austria. Here, it was pretty tasteless. The spatzle was ok. For dessert, we got the sachertorte, which was really dry and we could barely get a hint of the apricot jam. I remembered this being incredible here in 2018, but was so disappointed now. We also got the apple strudel, and that was soggy and didn't taste very fresh. It felt like it had been made some time ago and had come out of the freezer. If you want to book online, the cancellation fee is £25 per person, which is awfully steep? I get some sort of fee for no show, but this is just excessive. Toilets were gross too.

An absolutely delightful restaurant in the heart of Angel Islington. All the staff are most welcoming and very knowledgeable on their dishes and wines. I have dined here on a number occasions, lunch, dinner and occasionally a quick fix with their coffees and cakes. Great food and delicious array of cakes. Well worth a visit or two when you are in the area.

I was introduced to Kipferl by a colleague a couple of months ago. I am a musician specialising in music of the 17th - 19th centuries and as such have spent much of my career playing music of Austrian composers Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Dittersdorf, Biber and others. I decided to celebrate my February birthday by inviting to Kipferl musician friends with whom I have enjoyed playing concerts in Austria. We had a wonderful afternoon of coffee and cake, not to mention sharing a large Kaiserschmarrn (a special kind of pancake.) Thank you to Kipferl for making it a special occasion!

Great Austrian restaurant in Angel, food is always exceptional and brilliant service as well. Definitely pay them a visit! I’ve been numerous times and will return soon! The mountain omelette and chicken schnitzel are both so tasty and fresh.

I dropped in a few days ago with my cousin. Great. A lovely Austrian experience. I recommend the Linsetorte but everything is good. It's the only place I know that sells Almdudler in London.

What a wonderful spot. The staff were so friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. The brunch was delicious, but the real start of the show was the cakes, be careful because you'll have trouble choosing and they are all delicious, the Mozartorte in particular. Austria knows how to do dessert. And the decafe coffee is so good I had two! Will be coming back here for more.

The staff and owner, Hubert, are absolutely incredible. We had a work meeting and needed a venue, and Hubert and his team went above and beyond by opening up early just for us. They were fantastic—super accommodating and made the experience seamless. And the pastries? Absolutely amazing—great Austrian treats that were the perfect touch. Highly recommend!

We ordered deliveroo extended order - as we are central London but a bit further from this restaurant. I was excited by being able to get Austrian cuisine in London!! It was delicious!! Would love for you to offer a gluten free schnitzel as well. My husband is GF and would love to be able to order here for him too. Delicious. I hope you will be able to open more locations across the city.

Our first visit to Kipferl was a memorable dining experience. Food was excellent, cakes divine, staff incredibly friendly and attentive and the atmosphere lively and pleasant. The space is limited so booking a table is highly recommended. I have shared this delightful discovery with number of my friends who, having Austrian connections, will certainly visit. I would just like to thank Kipferl and especially Keir who helped me with a request for the delivery of an amazing authentic Austrian baked cheesecake. This was a special request for my wife's 50th birthday and Keir and the team were kind enough to rush this through for us at the last minute. The taste was sublime and my wife was very happy - highly recommended!!

Came here to celebrate my partner's birthday last night. Everything was fantastic; including, and perhaps especially the food - we had schnitzel each, veal and chicken, and both thought they were the best we've ever had! The lady looking after us was wonderful too - very friendly, attentive and charming. Not a single thing to say for anything we didn't like so much - we really enjoyed ourselves, everything was great, so thank you all!

Hearty beef goulash with freshly made spätzle, just what was needed on a chilly January evening! Washed down with a pint of Stiegl Goldbräu. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. This was a delightful unexpected find, and I will definitely be returning soon!

One of my favourite brunch spots in London, every time I've been the food has been fantastic, and the service is always professional and attentive. It's often quite busy however, and seating inside is fairly tightly packed. This doesn't bother me and I find lends to a charming hubbub inside. 10/10 will definitely come again!

What can i say... This place became my safe place. Once you enter, you feel home, the staff is so so kind, I've never been in a place where people treat you so well like at Kipferl. The food is really good and everything is worthy. Thank you so much.

Ordered a cake for my 50th, the Hausetorte was delicious, walnut and marzipan perfect combination, all my guests loved it.

This was my first experience with Austrian food, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It’s a cozy, small café-restaurant style spot in Camden Passage, just off Upper Street. The starter was a nice beetroot tris: quite flavorful and tangy, sprinkled with grated pistachios. The main, Tiroler Gröstl, was a mix of fried potatoes, beef, bacon, fresh leafy vegetables, and a fried egg. Unfortunately, the beef was quite dry and lacked flavor. For the side, I had a cold, tangy potato salad. I personally prefer fried or hot potatoes, so this wasn’t my cup of tea. To finish, I had a slice of chocolate cake and an almond tart for dessert. Both were quite dry and sugary. Their traditional Austrian beer was quite nice, though, and the male staff was friendly!

The Maroni Torte (chestnut) was superb. Coffee was good too, I didn't have to ask for a double shot.

I love coming to Kipferl for a delicious Austrian meal whenever I visit London! The food and decor remind me of my Oma and visiting cousins in Tyrol. Every time I've been, the food has been wonderful and the staff are so friendly! I always make sure to buy some Manner and Almdudler to take home with me. Can't wait till next time!

I've been going to Kipferl for many years, usually stopping by for some coffee and cake. It's truly a hidden gem in an otherwise very busy area, the service is impeccable and the cakes are top notch. Not to mention the fact that the space is dog friendly and my golden retriever is always treated like a king!

Terrible. Absolutamente terrible y nunca volveré a este lugar. La camarera insistía mucho en que la mesa debía volver en una hora. Ella era insistente y horrible al respecto. Arruinaba totalmente una ocasión muy especial. Sus políticas no están claras en su sitio web y su personal es horrible. Nunca volver aquí y nunca recomendaría este lugar a nadie. El pastel era terrible también. Cero estrellas".

Sachertorte looks great, but tastes like an average chocolate cake, not a sachertorte. They won't put a note in the package to say who it is from, want me to pay £3.50 for an ugly card.

Food is brilliant - best place for schnitzel in London followed by their delicious Sachertorte. If you are really hungry you can also start with the lovely goulash soup. It’s a regular dinner spot for us.

I absolutely love this restaurant. If I lived closer to Angel I'd probably eat there twice a week. The food is fantastic, it feels homemade, non-processed, fresh and absolutely delicious! I'm a huge fan of food from this region, so it's great to have this restaurant in London. I'm working my way through the menu and honestly couldn't choose one thing over another as each dish has been so tasty. The service is friendly and professional and the restaurant itself is quaint and homely! I'm excited to try the desserts one day!

Having spent a lot of time in German-speaking countries, it is a delight to dine at and order from Kipferl. It is genuinely Austrian in a way I haven’t encountered elsewhere in the UK (not for German or Swiss restraunts/cafés either). It's an experience not to be missed, but, indeed, repeated!

We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The food was truly delicious. We were well looked after and the location is really charming, a small pedestrianised lane with lots of atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will def come back again, also just for coffee and cake!

Somewhat unfriendly service! They made it pretty clear they wanted the table back ASAP from the minute we arrived which put me off my meal. We were only there for an hour in the end. I asked if they could close the door because it was cold and all I got was a 'No', later someone else asked and they closed it. No-one bothered to look as we were leaving or say thanks for coming. Food was nice but I won't be going back.

I am from Austria and unfortunately the food wasn't great. It might be alright for a dinner cooked by your friend's mum, but to pay for it in an actual restaurant, it's not doing our counrty any favours. The soup of the day was odd, a mush of lumpy mushroom soup without much seasoning. The Käsespätzle again didn't have much taste, were overcooked and somehow way too greasy. I don't think they use fresh potatoes for their potato salad. The cakes were ok, but nothing special. The only nice thing were the wine and beer. The staff tried to be friendly, but I didn't feel the Austrian hospitality. The interior is trying to imitate the charm of an Austrian restaurant, but isn't convincing. I'd visit again for the drinks, just without the food. The place could be amazing, with some more effort.

One of the cosiest and most atmospheric cafes/ restaurants in London. They really capture the magic of an Austrian mountain hut and top it up with amazing authentic food. A great little journey back to the last ski holidays

Servus! As an Austrian away from home, Kipferl is my favourite spot in London for my comfort foods when I’m feeling homesick. Great original food (as an Austrian I can confirm its authenticity), fantastic choice of cakes and Austrian wines, warm and authentic chalet atmosphere and very friendly personnel. Absolutely recommended without hesitation!

A worthy dedication to Austrian cuisine that diversifies London's restaurant range. Come at least every now and again for a reminder of apple strudel and Sachertorte. Ample seating inside and out, but busy at the weekends.

Wonderful evening in every respect. We have often enjoyed cake and coffee at Kipferl in the past, but this was our first visit for a full meal! Kipferl really does excel. Cannot think of anything to improve the experience!! My partner sends a Kipferl Sachertorte to his (soon to be 97 yr old) mother every Christmas. She has high praise for it!

Great sausages and cake… and the Spätzle is a must have! Traditional Austrian food with a great atmosphere. Five stars!

Tengo grandes expectativas de este lugar, ya que he estado en Austria muchas veces y sé cómo debería saber la comida y la bollería. We were there only for cake and we were both disappointed. My "cheesecake" was very dry. Every mouthful was a struggle. The apple strudel was bland and the pastry was soggy.

Gosh the worst Austrian food I v ever had … undercooked sausages , ignorant service

Breakfast was cold, bacon undercooked, sausage hard to chew… we v tried many Austrian and German restaurants in london and this one truly underperform… came here a few times thinking to give them another chance but the food quality was consistently poor…. And the service was even worse, especially the young lady who happened to serve us twice and always gave wrong info, indifferent attitude and ignorant throughout. If you want true Austrian food go to Notting Hill there is one lower ground restaurant (can’t remember the name) with live music, super super nice home made food and hearty service, that’s what you called a real german Austrian experience.

Got the veal schnitzel and spicy sausage. Amazing quality in a great setting but ultimately we felt it was quite overpriced for what it is.

This is a wonderful corner of Austria on Camden Passage. My daughter-in-law, born in Vienna, gives the Frittatensuppe an enthusiastic thumbs up, and I really enjoyed my chicken Wiener Schnitzel. For homesick Austrians and those with good memories of their skiing trips, the deli has great wines as well as Almdudler.

I had cake & some Austrian soft drink. It was ok, cake was a bit dry though. Place was very calm & quiet yet full of people, which was nice. I came here on a first date, and the waiter kept interrupting our conversation, which was annoying.

Schnitzel with warm potatoes and cakes are really nice. However I was surprised to see the condition of the toilet. This place deserves a better and cleaner toilet. edit on 09/24 : recently been to the place again and toiletis still in the same condition, not clean, bin is loaded with items on the floor
