Fantastic gluten free offerings here. Although all the food is great- if you are GF - head here. Their fryers are all GF and they use only GF batter - I had the best scampi’s chips and onion rings in years - as they are normally off limits due to always being full of gluten. This is a real treat. Very pleasant team of staff and reasonable prices. Super views over the bay - even on a rainy day. Will definitely return.

We had a late lunch here. The venue is very warm and inviting and the staff was service was efficient. However the food was disappointing - cauliflower steak was mushy, they were out of two dishes we wanted, sausage sandwich was quite ordinary. Would like to try again on our next trip to give a second shot.

Lovely early evening meal. The prawn and monkfish scampi was delicious and definitely recommended. Waiting staff though lovely were a bit inexperienced and not very attentive. This was my only gripe. We stopped off here for lunch and a drink while waiting for the ferry to Ardrossan - the ferry terminal is opposite the hotel which is handy. There's something for all on the menu from sandwiches & lite bites to pizzas and steaks. I opted for the Douglas loaded fries which were spot on. I'd say it was reasonably priced based on the quality of the food we had. And a shout out to the staff who were very helpful and friendly.

The bistro was pleasant welcoming and very pleasant members of staff who made our stay enjoyable. We had a toastie which was okay but to just put a single sliver of lettuce was really disappointing should have had a small salad to make it attractive not just 2 slabs of bread it was disappointing to say the least.

My partner and I stopped at the Douglas for a late lunch on the 15 July 2023 , we picked out eats from the board on the wall ,we both selected starter Lamb Terraine and chutney followed by haddock and chips, the lamb Terraine arrived and we both delved in, many times in other establishments we have enjoyed this dish, how disappointed we were, what arrived with the chutney resembled a square block of peat, it totally had no taste resembling lamb we both have still to establish a taste at all, the most horrible excuse for a lamb Terraine, the chef had us totally confused to what we where eating ,by the time we decided to complain the fish and.chips had arrived, absolutely gorgeous and excellently presented, I just hope this was a blip in the Douglas as this was the first time we ate this starter??? ,We passed this information to the young lady who served us and asked this to be passed onto the chef she said she would , we got no response I tried to contact the complaints on the website unfortunately there is no facility on the site to publicise a review, as we are regular patrons to the Douglas please management tell me this was a blip and won't be repeated.

We booked The Douglas for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved our stay! The staff couldn't do enough for us and the room was stunning. We paid a bit more for a water view and it didn't disappoint. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was bigger than my first flat! The only wee thing for us was the shower wasn't great but apart from that we can't fault The Douglas. Food was delicious (ate here 2 of the 4 nights), and breakfast was lovely too. Right beside the ferry terminal too so ideal for anyone like us who don't have a car. We will definitely be back (possibly for our 1st anniversary!)

Ended up eating here 2 days running, as all the other restaurants nearby were either closed or full. The food is perfectly fine, although I found it quite hard to pick on the 2nd night - I had decided on the mussels, to be told when ordering that they were not available. It might have been helpful to tell us that when handing out the menus ? The location is lovely and the staff friendly.

The meal was outstanding; we thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt the great food and overall experience was spoiled by the chap that served us. I asked a simple question about the soup of the day. I was shocked by the attitude of the server. I felt that we were an inconvenience throughout the meal, additional training on customer care and a better understanding of the menu would be required. In contrast to this experience, the wonderful lady who served us in the morning for breakfast. I felt she was passionate about The Douglas Hotel and ensured that we understood the menu and couldn't be more helpful and informative about the menu and The Douglas Hotel. Also, we stayed in the newer part- even though the room was stunning. - we felt like we were being cooked in the room as it was so hot. The fan provided in the room was noisy and irritating at night

The Douglas bistro is a pet friendly bar/restaurant.There are big tables and comfortable seats with a low warm lighting. We ordered the shared camembert to start. This was roasted perfectly and the cheese itself was good however was slightly salty but went well with the cranberry chutney. We then proceeded to order the trio of Salmon and the halloumi fries. The trio of salmon came with a refreshing citrus mayo and crispy caper sauce. The salmon was by far the tastiest of all the things we had ordered. The halloumi fries arrived sprinkled with pine nuts and ginger dressing which set off the against the halloumi cheese.Lastly the chicken burger of the day. Lemon grass, thyme and honey with a side of sea salt chips. This portion was not the biggest and the brioche bun was a little crisp, however the chicken was perfectly seasoned and was seared to lock in the flavours but still juicy and tender in the inside.

This is more of a cook-run rather than chef-run kitchen. The food is well cooked but not innovative. It would have been nice to see a focus on fresh seasonal local ingredients and sourcing from the local artisans (such as the baker), but unfortunately it is not the focus here. Waited 40mins and still nothing arrived (there was only us and 2 other couples in) asked at the bar what the delay was and was told they had not put the order into kitchen correctly but would try and get it to us asap. The fish when it arrived had enough bones to spark an interest in paleontology with my 12 year old. Then got offered a free diet coke

Staying overnight and we ate in the bar, superb fish and chips and fish stew..hence the 5 stars..rhubarb crumble was more berries and sugared than 'barbed..still ok but not what was expected from the name! Arran Cheese board very tasty. Would eat there again

Food was great, beer was great. They let dogs in and we had lots of fun playing with s beautiful little puppy. I had a beef burger, it was excellent.

Greeted by a charming receptionist and equally friendly barman the vibe in here is modern, stylish and relaxed. I was guided through the contemporary menu by the barman and opted for the hot smoked salmon and crayfish open sandwich with a wee bowl of soup on the side. Which was the perfect combination and thoroughly delicious. A plate full of goodness and I bagged a table with a view of the comings and going of the ferry port to some mellow jazz to wash things down. Ideal and a must do if in town.

Wonderful experience! Efficient, friendly staff. Enjoyed a relaxing cappuccino, and a delicious empire biscuit. The restaurant/café is small but very comfortable, safe and clean. Looking forward to going back for a meal.

A lovely Farm shop, selling lots of little gifts along with the yummiest of food. Their Beef and Venison Pies are scrumptious, as was the Macaroni Cheese pie. There is also a Restaurant/Tea Room, serving delicious local food and all so farm fresh. For children, there is a play area and a some cute farm animals to keep them entertained. A must visit if you are in the area

We have visited this cafe a few times recently as its quite good. The food is reasonably priced and worth the money. They stop selling hot food about 3.30, so you do need to get there quite early as it's quite popular. They have recently changed the name of the cafe to - cafe at the park and we don't particularly like it but other than that it's good.

Don't listen to your requirements and don't know what 'space for milk' means. Sigh
