Been coming to the Donkey since the donkey since the 60s when it was hot elderberry wine and sausages on the bar kept hot in a Pyrex dish with a candle light ..and stuff beautifully decorated at Christmas and log fires I'm so gutted and sad you have to close .....end of a very special era we have been married for. 59 years came with our children to see the donkeys on a summers evening..so sad we find out today on my husbands 81st birthday xx good luck to all ....dont knock it down please

lovely place. the Sunday roast was a real treat. and the service was fantastic. Roast Pork was delicious with perfect crackling :)

Would highly recommend the Donkey. We went in as a party of nine including a baby. The food was absolutely delicious and such a lovely varied choice on the menu, something for everyone The staff were all so lovely. All in all a lovely Sunday afternoon in an amazing pub/restaurant Will definitely return soon.

Fantastic food and at a very reasonable price. I had the ham egg and Donkey special fries (they have herbs and garlic). Service was ok a bit slow but they were very busy. A couple of real ales on tap - what more do you need? BTW the T-bone steaks looked amazing too!

Unassuming when pulling up but was blown away by the food. Homemade, hearty portions, and great value. Pub classics, but served in a modern way without sacrificing flavour or quality.

Perfect little pub/restaurant, if you want the cosy homely feel look no more, everyone is so friendly and the food is awesome! Indoor and outdoor seating, dogs welcome, friendly donkeys :)

Great atmosphere, food and service

The best pub in the local area. Very friendly staff that always make my Wife and I (and our dog) very welcome. Lost count of how many good meals we’ve had here. I would Recommend to anyone.

Lovely, very small pub near Farnham with a surprisingly good menu and very well cooked food. Booking is essential as the place is very small. The decor is very quaint, it's clearly several hundred years old and tucked away from the main road. There is next to no 4g coverage and the bar proudly displays a sign saying that they do not have WiFi, it's somewhere to unplug! The food was a real surprise, we had Cote de Boef with triple cooked homemade chips and it was excellent, I highly recommend it if it's on the menu when you visit. There is parking outside, which is free.

We were a party of five , from Reading and Emsworth, meeting for a family get together. We had a warm welcome and excellent, friendly service. There was a great choice, three of us went for the festive menu, one enjoyed a delicious steak and the other had tasty fish and chips. There were generous portions and a readiness to adapt to individual tastes. We weren't rushed, no one came to clear plates before we had all finished each course (rare these days), but I could see the servers kept an eye for when we were ready to move on. The Christmas pudding was sumptuous! Thank you very much.

Popped in here for a pint after walking around Frensham pond. Very cozy, fires lit, 2 small rooms, donkey pictures everywhere, dog friendly, and the staff were all super chatty. Loved this traditional old school pub

Lunch wasn't quite as good as last time but still a great pub and a great pub experience

Really in need of a serious update in the z conservatory area. So totally untrendy in a smart and competitive area for pubs. Carpet (tiles) in dreadful state. This old pub just has not got what it takes any more. Sad, not cheap either.

A beautiful old pub which does the most exceptional roast dinners. The staff are lovely, the surrounding are lovely and the food is absolutely out of this world. Worth EVERY penny.

My husband and visited this delightful traditional English pub for lunch, and it turned out to be a hidden gem. From the moment we stepped in, the staff's warmth and hospitality made us feel right at home. Despite not having a reservation, we were promptly seated and attended to with genuine friendliness. The efficiency with which we were served was impressive – no long waits, just a quick transition from hungry to satisfied. The food was served with remarkable speed and it was a pleasant surprise to find a place that embraces traditional pub grub. The sandwiches were a perfect lunchtime treat, and the flavours were spot-on. What added an extra layer of joy to our experience was the warm welcome extended to our four-legged companion. Our dog was not only allowed but treated like royalty with some delightful biscuits from the attentive staff. While the pub's decor may lean towards the dated side, it adds to the charm of the place. In a sea of modern, gastro-pub establishments, finding a cozy spot that values tradition was a refreshing change. Sometimes, a bit of nostalgia and a hearty meal are all you need.

Disappointed that the roast potatoes are all cooked in goose fat and Yorkshire puddings were overcooked. But can't fault the service and a surroundings lovely little proper pub.

This is a special pub, really special. I've been here a few times over the past few years, but having now moved to the area it's become a local and regular one we visit. The food is fantastic - freshly cooked, well presented, massive portions and well priced. The service is also top notch; every is incredibly attentive and friendly. Great selections of drinks as well. Oh and the puddings are mind blowing. Especially the banoffee pie.

We have eaten here a few times. Lovely members of staff. And the food is great. Very child friendly too.

Whilst the pub seems a little tired, the effort put in by the staff was great for our family Sunday lunch. Big portions none of us could finish and good standard. Plus, you get to see a couple of Donkeys 🫏

Such a lovely place. Delicious home made food, vast & superb menu, very welcoming and friendly staff with nothing being too much trouble. We absolutely loved it. The highlight of it all, was receiving a visit from their two resident donkeys. Misty & Ben I believe they're called, they just loved having their ears scratched. We travelled from Swansea and had a lovely conversation with the owner over the history of the donkeys. We will most certainly visit there again. I highly recommend that you visit, you will not be disappointed.

Perfect in every way. Lovely friendly helpful staff, good customer service and excellent food. The whole atmosphere is the best I have seen for a while. Just hope my son's loud chatter didn't spoil it for everyone else. We highly recommended this place

What a lovely pub! We were walking in the area and chose The Donkey for our meal afterwards. The food was excellent! I had the Chicken, Bacon and Avocado salad, which came with home made chips and was the best I have ever had! Absolutely delicious! And the added bonus was that the chef was a Brighton and Hove Albion supporter! Up the Albion! The Pork Belly with fresh vegetables, Risotto and Fish and home made chips were also great so if you are in the area go there. Lovely friendly staff too and 2 donkeys in the garden. Thanks to all concerned!

Fantastic country inn, with bags of charm and a corking menu. Super friendly staff and superb food. Very much worth the visit and we will return again to sample more delights. Extra bonus points for the cute and friendly donkeys!!

Brilliant place. Front of house team wonderful. Mine Host, everything a Mine Host should be. Chef prepared an excellent meal. We shared the goats cheese salad and it looked like goats cheese (melting beautifully) surrounded by jewels the salad was so fresh. Just loved it there and we will return.

Arrived at 2.30pm to grab a quick soft drink as the sign said 'open' - and online it said open to 3pm for drinks, got told they close soon and wouldn't serve us....despite people in the garden who would have stayed longer than than we would!

What a lovely, friendly pub. My daughter was doing her D of E expedition today and the staff at this pub kindly allowed her and her friends to use the toilets, refilled all their water bottles and offered plasters for blisters. We shall be returning the kindness by visiting for a meal soon and will ask friends and family to do the same. Please support this lovely business.

What a shame. It’s a lovely old pub in a lovely location and probably postcard material. The beer was well kept. The food wasn’t cheap but it was well worth the price. All our six meals were excellent. Unfortunately, we were served by a really abrupt and unfriendly lady (dark hair) who reminded me of one of my mean diner ladies back in the 70s who hated the kids and their jobs. Even when I made the booking over the phone an hour before the meal, she was quite abrupt and I almost cancelled the booking based on her manner. In fairness, there was also the owner’s wife/ partner serving (blonde haired) who couldn’t have been more friendly or professional. I noted some previous reviews also mentioned the abrupt manner of the dark haired lady. So she appears to have been there a while and I’m guessing she is either a close family friend or family, and an established part of the furniture. Either way, I’m not just paying for the food (which was excellent) but the service (which was poor) and put together, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere in the other excellent pubs around Farnham. A strange one really. They got the difficult things right (food and ale) , but got the easier thing really wrong (service). What a shame.

Donkey Found this lovely pub on a long dog walk. What a find, the food was fresh, wonderfully cooked, all homemade and left us full and satisfied without crippling the wallet. The homemade desert stole the show, leaving us just wanting another slice. If you get to visit this family run pub, we would highly recommend it. Stumbled across this gem on a rainy dog walk . The staff were very friendly and welcoming, we sat outside due to having our dog with us and our boots muddy . It started to rain and they all immediately ushered us inside . The food was amazing, fresh and home cooked. If you have space for a dessert and if it is on the menu the banoffee pie was one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time . We are planning a trip back for a Sunday roast as soon as we can .

Absolutely fantastic. Getting in and out can be a challenge, but well worth the effort! Food and hospitality are both perfect, and the banofee pie is the best I've ever had.

Very over priced for what it is. Lamb wasn't great and the building inside the conservatory is outdated! Not a lover and for the distance travelled felt let down. Staff were very efficient which is a positive.

Excellent, I was there with a walking group, the staff were extremely efficient providing us with drinks when we returned from our walk, and the food was very good and arrived promptly and accurately.

Food was first class, all home cooking. Friends we went with preferred there vegetables cooked longer, and would of loved some sweed, witch they noticed that other tables had. Yummy 😋

Had a lovely birthday lunch with our daughter. The menu was good,the food lovely. The service was prompt & the staff made a fuss,including singing "Happy Birthday ", to our daughter & granddaughters. The 2 donkeys in the paddock were adorable too! Will definitely visit again. Thank you!

The best roast dinner I've had in a long time,everything cooked perfectly. Only negative parking a bit tight.Well worth a visit.

A beautiful, cosy pub with an amazing Sunday roast! Veggies cooked beautifully, and the meats cooked just right. The staff are all really lovely, too - all rushing around to make sure guests' needs were met. Myself and my partner managed to get in without booking, but the pub was quite busy, so booking is very much advised. We sat outside, and got a lovely view of the pub's two donkeys - Pip and Ben. All of the staff know about the donkeys, their history and their temperaments. These two sweet donkeys appear really well cared for - owners could be heard talking about veterinary care previously provided for the donkey they sadly lost in 2020 during a lockdown, specifying the importance of donkeys having a companion after one passes, and overall sounding really very knowledgeable. Me and my partner WILL be back!

Stopped in for a Sunday lunch as we were on a walk that passed The Donkey. Able to sit outside without a booking. Friendly welcome and the food was great, the roasts were delicious and the rest of the menu and specials looked good too. And two donkeys in the back garden! What's not to like?

Helen and Jason were as excellent as ever with great food, lovely beers, friendly and attentive service. A must visit pub and restaurant.

It appears my wife and a close friend had already visited the Donkey. This time the two men were allowed to join them and wow. What beautiful surroundings, great beer, well cared for and food was superb. Set in the Surrey countryside and being served by excellent and friendly staff. We'll worth a visit or two. I would go back today if I didn't have a lot of work to do.

This was a half way choice between London & Portsmouth for a first family meet up since lockdown. The staff were so friendly & accommodating & the food was delicious. Well worth a visit. Thank you

A proper pub with amazing food, friendly staff and a traditional relaxed pub environment. The Sunday roast was the best I have had in years great size portions and fairly priced.

What a find! Couldn't get in at The Mill at Elstead on a Sunday afternoon without having pre-booked so we drove down the road to The Donkey. Although they were just about to stop their afternoon sittings, they fitted us in at a table without any fuss, provided fantastic service and the food was wonderful. Such a treat to find an independent pub with brilliant food, not overpriced plus you get to have the company of donkeys!

Great food, reasonable prices. Small car park that is tricky to enter if approaching from Farnham and also to exit in both directions. Marked down a star due to an inconsiderate dog owner not clearing up after their dog. Not the pubs fault I guess. Luckily it was me that took the hit and not my grandchildren.

The food and the service is a ten out of ten. Fresh home cooked vegetables accompanied with cracking roast potatoes and a good size portion of meat. Can't fault the pub,the food or the price, I would have to dot 2•5% as leaving and joining the road requires extra caution. But 97•5 for satisfaction is right up the top for us. Blinding effort from all the staff that make the experience most certainly one of the best.

Lovely family run dog friendly pub. Called on a Sunday for a last minute Sunday Lunch (which was delicious) and they managed to squeeze us in despite being fully booked. Will definitely go back there soon.

Great hosts, great food great beer. This is a place you should visit for a meal. You may pay a little more than you would for pub grub but be assured that this place provides food that is so much better quality, taste and presentation that you would expect from a country bar. This is not my first visit and I don't intend it to be my last.

Very traditional pub with lovely food selection. Our experience was completely ruined by the fact that we found hair in 2 of the dishes. The waitress (lady with dark hair) was very sour for our entire visit and when we mentioned about the hair she had a very mean attitude and just insinuated that the hair was ours.
