I like going to Walwick Hall as it always feels luxurious. The staff are very friendly and the lunch menu is reasonably priced and good quality. This time I had the chicken Kiev and my friend had the butternut squash tortellini. Both were superb. Dessert was blackberry cheesecake which was a great twist on the traditional version making it nice and light. My friend had the apple pie, which she really enjoyed too. The waitress was very friendly and cheerful. We have been served by her on numerous occasions and she is always polite and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Came to know about this place from a Magazine supplement. The venue is quite impressive and well restored. From arrival to departure we were treated very well. The lunch menu though not extensive is still nicely varied. The Beer Battered Cod is a very good choice. While we were there for lunch Afternoon Tea was being served in the Drawing Room which looked very good also. There is also a lovely outside terrace area with beautiful views of the countryside. I would definitely return, perhaps for dinner next time with an overnight stay.

The impression driving in is of a very well maintained property and that favourable view is re-inforced by a very welcoming staff - despite their being very busy! The bar is well stocked and there are some good cocktails available at reasonable prices. There is a very good wine list to suit all pockets and with most tastes covered. They have some rarer mid priced wines and it is well worth asking for advice on the best combinations for some of their dishes. Someone knows what they are doing here! Be aware that the dining room décor is a little unusual - especially compared to the rest of the hotel - but that's part of the fun! Starters were well received. If you can make soup of the day (tomato) "interesting" you are doing something right, the salmon was really top notch and the beetroot salad high quality. I had the fillet steak, this is something which is actually quite difficult to get right and very easy to get wrong. It was perfect. One of our guests had the venison. I am afraid this was a little disappointing, it didn't seem to have been rested, there was a lot of "stuff" on the plate which didn't seem to add much and the sauce was insipid. I wasn't "send back" but it was a bit below par, My wife and our other guest had the chicken. The core dish was absolutely perfect but again it was slightly marred by extraneous additions particularly some rather tasteless chicken nuggets. Side dishes were good and just the right quantities. The puddings were to die for. For all courses the portions were very substantial! Service was top class. We took coffee in the bar. There is so much going for this place, nice venue, superb people, a really good wine list and menu but perhaps with some of the dishes someone is trying too hard when frankly there is no need. This may seem to be "picky" but if you are at 95% you may as well aim to get to 100%. We will return, it's a great place.

Simply superb, Michelin standard fayre, all beautifully presented. The current, seasonal lunch and dinner menu's have some lovely choices including the salmon with samphire and crushed jersey royals and the belted galloway fillet steak which is totally delicious and better than any steak I have eaten anywhere else. Other lovely choices include, the tian of smoked salmon and prawns and a wonderful choice of freshly made soups including roast parsnip and pea with wild garlic which were all extremely good. If you are staying at the hotel, the breakfasts are very generous and equally delicious. All served in the comfortable Dining Room within Walwick Hall with excellent customer service. Very strongly recommend.

The food at Walwick Hall is absolutely wonderful ! The new Christmas menu is full of crowd pleasers including locally sourced belted galloway beef cooked three ways which is delicious. There is, of course, turkey with goose fat roast potatoes, home made cranberry sauce and all the trimmings. It is absolutely excellent and definitely recommended. There are daily specials, I tried the hay baked celeriac, white bean and truffle soup. Silky smooth and rich with a depth of flavour, it was stunning and had to be ordered a number of times. It was made by Dan, the trainee chef, which gives you an idea of the high calibre of the chefs in the kitchen which frankly, in my view is second to none. There are as always some stunning desserts including the pear and almond tart which comprises of a soft pear enrobed in a jammy bakewell tart filling with superbly crisp pastry. A total triumph and made even more enticing by being accompanied by a fabulous Christmas pudding ice cream. One of the best desserts I have ever eaten. The restaurant chefs go to considerable trouble making everything from scratch including all the bread, biscuits etc. The customer service is faultless and exemplary. All the team are friendly, very helpful and totally committed. Even when busy, everyone is good natured and the very high standards are fully maintained. It is impressive to witness. That reliability coupled with really fabulous food and outstanding customer service makes for a very happy dining experience particularly at a busy time of year because you know everything will be spot on. The Hall also looks stunning with all the Christmas decorations up. A festive visit or two is highly recommended !

Walwick Hall encapsulates the very best features of Georgian architecture and it is a delightful venue for dinner or to stay. A large stone terrace runs the full length of the frontage offering stunning views of the Tyne valley below. It is perfect for having pre dinner drinks or afternoon tea. The beating heart of this establishment however is in the kitchen. Culinary alchemy is going on in there, and this is, quite simply, a food lover's paradise. The hotel has recently just launched a new dinner menu. First impressions are excellent. The list of starters include organic poached salmon, Isle of Mull scallops, roast wood pigeon, and a cheese souffle with a white onion veloute. The main courses include pancetta wrapped cod, rump steak, venison with a bitter chocolate sauce and a vegetarian main of charred aubergine with ratatouille and halloumi. It all beguiling but the organic poached salmon sounds summery and would go well with a main of vension. Classically trained head chef Steven Murray was lured back to Northumberland specifically to work at Walwick Hall. His cooking skill coupled with a real creative flair have been earning Walwick Hall its growing reputation as a go to destination for excellent food. He has formed a brilliant partnership with talented pastry chef Laurens Le Gal whose gallic roots bring french flair and virtuosity in abundance. The pair of them together are producing culinary fireworks. The first course arrives, the salmon has come from a Hebridean supplier who has won a number of awards. There are vibrant splashes of bright yellow saffron mayonnaise, and the poached salmon sits on top as if the fish has just launched itself there. It is looks exquisite. Succulent flakes of salmon fall away. The fish is moist and combines perfectly with the saffron mayonnaise. The granola adds a nutty texture with currants for sweetness and caper berries for piqancy. The dish is superb. The dining room at Walwick Hall is airy with high sash windows which look out over the garden. The hotel has a happy, relax feel and the dining room echos that. The front of house team are very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. It is an extremely pleasant place to enjoy a good meal. The venison has been sourced from a supplier near Ardgay in Sutherland, Scotland. The nicely pink meat sits next to a crisp potato rosti with accompaniments of kale, celariac and textures of beetroot. A small jug contains the bitter chocolate sauce. The venison enrobed in the richly flavoured sauce is deeply satisfying, first with savoury notes of an excellent venison jus, then a silky smoothness of chocolatey richness. It is masterful. A particularly nice touch is the caramelised celariac which harmonises well with the venison. The whole ensemble is a total triumph. After two excellent courses it is hard to imagine how the desserts can keep apace, but the menu looks irresistible. Choices include toffee parfait, a peach melba 'macaron', a dark chocolate and raspberry tart, and a milk chocolate and fig dacquoise. It is an impossible choice but the peach melba wins. Reinvention of a classic can be risky so would this work ? A stunning confection of poached peach slices, peach sorbet, and a vanilla diplomate all nestle on a large macaroon. The almond 'macaron' combined with the other elements is mouth wateringly good and a very fitting end to what has been an outstanding meal. Having dined at Walwick Hall on a number of occasions and having consistently experienced delicious food and excellent customer service; I can thoroughly recommend the place, the team and the food. It is unmitigated luxury but with an affordable price tag.

We found this wonderful restaurant last year while on holiday in the area. We booked for this year as well. It's one of the best Indian meals we've ever had. Great flavours , friendly service. We'll be back next year.

It is very nice in this day and age to find a restaurant serving top quality food and serving it like a restaurant should. Too often these days a restaurant experience is like street food wagons. This is refined food served nicely. Our meal was superb from start to finish, classic french dishes just done better, everything was quality, tasty, nicely presented and decent value. Wine menu was good, we didn't try the house wine but I'm sure it would be decent and unfortunately we were just a bit too early for the Beaujolais being released in November. Must remember for next year to come after the 21st. Service was very good, wine poured properly, real napkins, table dressed nicely, clean and decorated well. Atmosphere was just right. Btw, steak tartare was perfect. Thank you all. I aim to return soon.
