Food and staff are second to non. Practically family now Im in there that much. Unfortunately for me. Fantastic old school cooking as well as healthy and special options. The savouries are famous and so they should be, sometimes get a savoury with my meal. Your not from Darlo unless you’ve had a savoury in your life. The girls/lads all bully me and only reason I keep going back. Ultimate breakfast or the Roast dinner with extra fried roasties are the one. Simon needs to pull his socks up when Im in though. Thats my only fault is our Simon, he knows what I mean! ;-) thanks for always looking after me. Also opens at 8:30 which is good for someone up as early as I am and needs feeding properly!

We had the famous Savoury Bun. What a great cafe in Darlington. Serving their very famous "Darlington Savoury Bun" with its secret ingredient! The staff are all so lovely and friendly, especially Abigail who served us today. A real pleasure to eat here! 💯 Thank you!

still a nice little place in the corner of the indoor market in Darlington. you always get a great chat with the Lovely Lisa and the Gorgeous Josie . very nice staff indeed. the tea is really nice, and the toast is always served hot, you get people from all walks of life coming in to this diner. been coming in here for years and there is never an issue, it is plain food at a fair price, not sure about vegan or gluton free meals as i just order what i want to eat. well done to the staff again

Always had an endearing warm memory of the first sausage savoury bun from the indoor market. Peppery sausage with onions in a soft bun. Does the memory play tricks? Possibly or perhaps my taste buds have matured. Or has the recipe changed? Filled a gap. Was quite good. But not as good as I remembered

There has been a cafe here for decades and it is the home of Darlington's famed savoury. I visited for breakfast as I had some time to kill and the place seems to have seen better days, tatty broken furniture, stickers on the wall, generally unloved and unkempt. The other patrons were a mixture of elderly ladies, workmen and strange old men who may have been tramps. The food was fine, a full cooked breakfast with a mug of tea for £3.95 is good value, this place could be so much better, a full makeover with matching tables and a lick of paint would not cost the earth.

Food tasted great..... However an hours later when my partner started getting stomach cramps and had to go to be....I assumed he was unwell. Until I started being violently sick aswel as unwanted visits to the toilet. This lasted all night, I physically could not eat or drink! This was three days ago and we are still not well!! Its spoilt our weekend plans and I will NOT step foot in there again.

Never had a savoury before, but it was lovely - onions, sausagemeat and seasoning all in a bun! Really yummy hot snack! The diner is a really good old-fashioned market cafe, very reasonably priced and lovely friendly service. Even let us taste the savoury before we bought some!

This visit resulted from recommendations from general people i spoke to in Darlington. I made the visit to the indoor market situated in the centre of Darlington and found this little cafe/sit down, my first thought was omg what a scruffy little hole, however look beyond the seating and the decor and try what was described to me as a Darlo delicacy (The Savoury). Made from onions and sausage meat and served in a bap, also available with cheese. I was advised that the Darlo Savoury had been on the go since 1934, it was served on a melamine xmas plate which made me smile, i took my seat adding brown sauce as i generally always do to my food. I did notice the constant stream of people ordering the Savoury to take away. What did please me was the chat and friendliness of Lisa and Sam behind the counter. Total cost of my visit £3.09 for Savoury and a mug of tea. So if your at a loose end in Darlington The Savoury is worth a try. But like i say look beyond the decor and seating.

Awful food. Terrible attitude. Owner has high opinion of themselves and customer service is absolutely zero. Avoid at all costs.

Extremely poor customer service, while ordering a drink they stated they did not have the ingredients at hand to order the cocktail they advertised on the bar. Then as I tried to decide on another drink the extremely rude and abrupt bar staff rang the bell and stated I could not have another drink.
