The Davy Lamp in Barnsley

Went in for a coffee and ordered a cappuccino and they haven’t got a clue how to make one. It was a latte so a waste of money and I threw it away.

Very expensive for very poor food .. when I seen the prices I thought it was going to be something like local produce sausage or bacon but oh no far from that .. very poor quality food and to order breakfast absolutely shocking you have to pay per item never ever seen before in a cafe .. all in all just a money making spinner poor cafe definitely not going back and will be telling all lads to avoid at all costs

Called in this morning first time for a coffee. Staff very friendly and polite. Good menu with breakfast size options.Looks well organised and well run. Will call back for a breakfast.

A lovely cafe, nice and quiet inside with great decor. Service was quick and friendly. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Will be coming back again for sure!

Had a lovely breakfast here, breakfast is a pick and mix, different price for so many items, you only get what you pick so no waste, cooked to perfection. Exact cash or card, definitely will go again

Absolutely disgusting prices. £7.25 for ONE slice of bacon, HALF a slice of cheap spam, BOILED TINNED mushrooms, ONE hash brown and ONE OVERCOOKED fried egg, oh and half done lukewarm toast. Never again

Called in today for breakfast, cost £12 for 2 sausage 3 bacon, beans , toms an egg and fryed bread with a coffee... Tbh I would have thought at £12 the sausages would have least been decent and not the cheap sausages filled with air.. unfortunately it really let the breakfast down as the rest was ok

Visited Saturday for a sandwich to take away. Staff were rude, especially the girl giving us the sandwiches. Sandwich was over priced just shy of £8 for two ham sandwiches with one slice of ham in each. Won't be visiting again.

I have to say. The Davy Lamp Cafe is absolutely the best food around No grease. Prepared- Cooked fresh from order. Time allowing for the cooking .. you will not be disappointed. We have to say it is the best … if you ask also for any changes to meals. They are happy to alter. Good value for money. Good food. Staff are really good. Very welcoming Plenty parking free

Customer service was good. But food was horribly salty. Kids didn’t like the sausages as well, again too salty. Oil tasted reused. I used to come here for a cuppa, which is really good. A bit too pricey as well for the quality of food.

What a little Gem of a place the food is amazing hot and freshly cooked to order it was our first visit but won’t be the last we will be back in the near future the Davy Lamp Cafe is very clean and decorated to a high standard in a retro style I think it’s one of the nicest breakfasts we have ever had

Miserable staff, clearly don't want to be there

Food used to be good. These days not good, especially for the price you pay! Service was extremely slow, (we had drunk our red hot drinks long before food was served) food wasn't very hot when it did arrive, portion size very small. (Half a slice of very thin spam on a breakfast, 2 sausages in a sandwich, toast extremely well toasted and cold wich means its impossible to butter yourself) The prices are the same as a high end farm shop cafe, the quality is that of a run down greesy spoon. Sorry just my view

Really bad experience today. No breadcakes so sliced bread offered for sandwiches. This was super thick and tiny so these were so much cheaper for the owners to make but not passed on to the customer. Was told by the owner that there was a delay for food as they were busy, but the owner was quite happy to sit at a table laughing with a friend most of the 40 minutes we waited for food rather than in the trenches with his team. When my food arrived, my eggs were so snotty I had to send them back. Usually quite good, terrible today. Will not return, sorry.

Food was beautiful, pricy but worth it

Car parking available plenty of seating indoors and out, a well lit and very clean venue , extensive menus to cater for most people . Our group of four people ordered 2x all-day breakfasts that you could add all or remove various cooked breakfast items and build your own (prices were very good) 2x meat pie chips and peas, all plates went back empty , big cups of tea all round and the food was excellent and well cooked , followed by a nice piece of assorted cakes to finish , around the walls of the cafe are photos and pictures of this once mining area and the colliery that once stood here , along with a few small mining artifacts pleasantly exhibited. The staff were well presented , friendly , knowledgeable and very helpful it was a delight to spend our lunch time here in great company and we will all come again. Highly recommend.

Tried this place last week for the first time. Great food, nice people. Really nice atmosphere, not to be confused with a greasy spoon, really nice cafe.

Good cafe, bit on the expensive side and if you sit inside be prepared to smell of cooking when you leave.

Such lovely food, really high quality produce, Good Coffee and very attentive and helpful staff. A good breakfast in Barnsley area are few and far between, on par with the Old George. Cute decor too

A lovely clean little café just off the main road, plenty of parking spaces outside. You can eat in or takeout, varying selection of meals and snacks available, hot and cold drinks. A one way in & another way out, masks must be worn on entry and the toilets are spacious and very clean. Well worth a visit

After a long wait the bacon was overcooked, the spam was totally overcooked, the mushrooms were cold, item missing of order. Server brought our food using the sleeve of her top to carry the plate. Table next to us got there's on a tray. Only thing that was nice was the toast. We enjoyed going before lockdown but we won't go again.

Had afternoon tea wasn't worth money two finger sandwiches each and a few nibbles not even home made and same with sweat nibbles wouldn't recommend to anyone

Been for afternoon tea. Not worth the money. 2 slim sandwiches each, small sausage roll, a tiny quiche what didn't taste of anything, a scone and 2 small squares of cake each. There was no teaspoons on the table, 1 knife between 4.no serviettes. The cafe smelt like old cooking oil. Not worth the £48 we paid.

Found The Davy Lamp after we were supposed to go somewhere else for breakfast but it was shut. The place was really busy when we got there but we managed to get a table after about 5 mins. We all ordered from the breakfast menu, in different combinations. The food arrived shortly after our drinks. All items were good quality and cooked beautifully. The flat white is one of the best we've had in Barnsley, and we've had a few! We're definitely going back very soon

Used to come here a lot decided to go for food today really lost it standards food wasn’t up to normal standards was fast service and quick to come out as you could here the microwave ping before the meal came mainly the beans had a layer of skin over them which is also an indication of it been in the microwave the scrambled eggs were not scrabbled after been scrambled and then back in microwave it had formed back into a a flat egg will be trying the cafe round the corner to see if it’s any better best part of the meal was the can of pop 👍🏻
