Cozy pub in the old town of Edinburgh, ridden away from the frenzy of the city.

A small cosy local bar for local people and everybody else, quiet sometimes and other times it's quicker to leave one door and enter the other to get across the bar. Staff friendly and helpful if occasionally prone to intemperate language when it's time to go home where they'd quite like to be as well. Excellent range of real ales when they haven't run out which seems to have happened more often than not this year. Maybe consider going somewhere else nearby with better stock control/cashflow? The hands off management style is really starting to show recently with a cavalcade of clueless hipster attendants and unpredictable sold-out incidents leading me to question my need to voyage into town to pay a premium price for leftovers. I may just be having more 'quiet' nights in with my new wine subscription in future.

Excellent little whisky bar. Not very large, but if you can find a seat it's a superb spot for a finger or two and some proper craic.

What a pub, quite small, very cozy, great staff, decor is just what you would describe a pub to be. Leather chairs, booths, bit of stained glass, worn tables and great selection on the taps.

The greatest bar in Southside. No nonsense, no nifty pretence, and no Ned's.

No longer carry mead sadly, our crew walked across town just for that alone. Plus claimed to open at 1300 but definitely wouldn't trust the hours listed and would recommend finding another pub instead

Dagda was once an important part of my social scene, before I moved away 10 years ago. It has changed little, providing a great ale and whisky selection in an intimate venue. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Just go. I'll meet you there.

A small pub with plenty of character and charm with a good beer selection and a less well known cider on draft.

Not for the first time, two beers on draught out of twelve. Consistently fails to open the hours it says it will. Stock and staff the pub adequately and things might improve.

Dagda is one if the few remaining "real" pubs in Edinburgh. It sells beer (and cider and other booze) , crisps and peanuts. That's it. A real pub with pretentions or aspiration to be a gastro pub.

The bar was as busy as my stomach was full after spending the day quaffing vast amounts of Icelandic barleywine and exploring the city. Arriving at Dagda I felt too hot, bloated and unable to maneuver my ready-to-burst self. The atmosphere immediately cured any ills as I found it to be most pure and free of any lagerboys. "These are my people!" I thought as I sipped my pint of Black Isle Blonde. Although lacking a wide selection of beers, what was on offer was most gluggable. The staff seemed overall happy and there was an air of mirth in the small room. I sweated out my previous pints during the hour I spent in the joyous space and upon exiting felt like I had enjoyed a true Scotch experience.

Hubby wanted to visit for a craft beer, was very quiet but he enjoyed his pint.

This business sells beers, wines and spirits etc which you can drink on the premises. Why nobody hasn't thought of this brilliant idea before is, quite frankly, beyond me.

This is peak pub. Can't recommend it highly enough and will certainly be back for a contemplative beer in this temple of the pint!

Atmosphere has changed over the years, and not necessarily for the better Mediocre range of beverages on tap. Place could do with a good clean to be honest!

I would take a walk off the tourist trail to find this gem of a pub

Really enjoyed my brief visit. They were mid quiz, which was entertaining. Clearly a devoted, mostly younger crowd. A couple of good ales on tap and a good selection generally. Quite a small pub but adds to the charm and friendliness. Can see why John Robins loves it when he comes to Edinburgh.

The bar owner saw a group of us and we were a multiracial group. He told us that we shouldn’t take up seats because we aren’t “locals”. We all live in Edinburgh so I had to guess he was commenting on the accents and color of our skin. Do not go here unless you are ok with this kind of racism.

A strange experience. Nice bar but a really rude bar man. He clearly had some concerns about Covid and I appreciate his concerns but if the bar is open he shouldn't spend the time being rude to customers.

My brother and sister in law took me here and I will be back ! I was made so welcome and felt relaxed and at ease immediately great atmosphere.

For someone who drinks a lot of craft beer this doesn't have the largest selection. Small but cosy, and comfortable to spend some time.

Lovely wee pub. Their real ales' are always in tip top condition. Even though they only have 4 ale hand pumps, there's always something for everyone's tastes. I always try and pop in for a pint or two whenever I'm in Edinburgh.

Stunning wee bar. The name itself a testament to The Dagda, The all father of Irish/Celtic mythology, an ancient history of the Tuatha de Danaan. This is a brilliant spot to quench ones thirst, be it for ale, beer, wine or whisky. One can even purchase a glass ae mead should ye feel like recounting slurred poetry as Odin once did. Cosy, classic and offering an excellent variety of libations. Get yourself in for a proper rest & recoup.

The best bar in Edinburgh! Small, but very cosy. You can feel a real Scottish spirit here. Wide range of good craft beers, very friendly staff. Highly recommended, you couldn't miss it!

An iconic Scottish pub. Don't expect any music, just loud conversations between the customers. Lots of beer options both local and mainstream. Could use a bit more air recycling, cause the air felt quite thick upon entering the establishment. Loved it nonetheless.

Very busy lovely pub the size of a large living room.

Dead cosy on a rainy afternoon, with comfy green leather banquettes, gently-distressed wood tables and stools, some nice modernist art on the walls and- most importantly- dugs welcome.

The Dagda is a pub I always visit when I am in Edinburgh. Why, because the beer is aiways well kept, it is always real, and the quality, the taste, and its 'dialogue' on the tongue, invariably captivates. It is a small intimate bar with the fugg and babble you would expect to find in a traditional setting.

Superb proper old pub in the south of Edinburgh, but only 5 mins walk from Pleasance and Assembly Fringe zones. Great choice of ales, local Scottish breweries and wide range of whisky I didn’t try, not my thing. Very knowledgeable barman. No food No kids (probably) Perfect !

This place is classic and traditional place for Whisky. The bartender is so patient ans so nice. He introduce every kind of Whisky detailedly. The dog there is cute. A cozy place.
