Had a wonderful dinner at the Crown after popping in for a drink after a long walk and chatting to Paul and Sarah for so long that it became dinner time! Extremely warm welcome to the three of us and my slightly nervous rescue dog. Turns out Paul is an expert in local history and together with Sarah produced an extremely impressive short book about the area, its history and walks. I had a very well kept pint of Harvey’s before our steak and ale pies arrived: home-cooked, veg nice and firm; Mum’s vegan shepherds pie (with added cheese for her as she’s not actually vegan) was lovely too. Clean plates all round. Really great family-run, traditional and relaxed pub - Wormingford is lucky to have Paul and Sarah. We’ll be back!

The Crown, what can be said. Well, the atmosphere for a start, it's like walking into your best mates, warm and inviting, fantastic banter, and genuinely lovely people. Secondly, the food is absolutely delicious! This morning, my full English hit the spot. Proper butchers sausages, perfectly crisp bacon (as requested), all cooked to perfection. All served with a smile, and real bean, fresh coffee! I have now eaten breakfast lunch and dinner here, and cannot complain about a single thing! Service is always quick, the food is always piping hot, and it's all home made, fresh, and well presented. I can walk in, take a seat and my drink is there ready and waiting. I can't fault anything with this establishment! Looking at the functions and events they host, it's a real, community pub, really the heart of wormingford. Highly recommend popping in!!

Came for a romantic belated valentines dinner with my significant other. We were seated in the snug back dining room away from the hustle and bustle of the bar where we enjoyed one of the most sensual and delicious meals of our lives. The cottage pie was a perfectly sized portion of delectable minced beef and gravy and the potato topping was divine. The unobtrusive yet undeniable ambiance left me yearning for more and I will certainly be returning. 5 stars to Paul and Sarah!

After seeing the excellent results from the local press about this pub,we thought we would give it a try. I tried to book for Sunday lunch today, but no answer on the phone. So we thought we would have a drive out. Unfortunately the pub was closed! Although on the website and Facebook it said they were open? Obviously can't comment on the food,as we were unable to eat there! But the external look of the place was poor. Lots of rubbish in the car park, and a skip full of rubbish next to the pub. We won't be rushing back anytime soon. On the plus side, a local dog walker saw us in the car park, and recommended a pub in the next village (bures) where we all had a lovely Sunday roast.

We were staying at an AirBnB close by so thought we'd give it a try. It is a great friendly pub serving homemade food. The burgers were thick and really tasty and the 12" pizza was excellent my son declared. It seemed bigger than 12" it was huge!! The portion sizes were decent. We also went back for the "build your own breakfast" which was also really tasty. As my son was too full from the pizza the previous evening we also popped in for ice cream the next night. There are a couple of vegan ice-creams on offer. The owners were doing everything themselves on both occasions and are really friendly and welcoming. We'd definitely go back if in the area.

We discovered this pub a few weeks ago in a nearby village. Having driven past so many times we stopped for a drink. Lovely family run establishment where they do everything themselves. Relaxing beer garden to sit in and a bouncy castle to keep our youngest occupied. We then decided to try the food and it was delicious, with prices about the same as elsewhere but with large portions as standard, which left us stuffed. We now go there each weekend for a relax in the garden and we will be eating again. So next time don’t just drive by, stop and have a drink.

If I could pick 10 stars i would! This is an amazing place, whether it be for a private function or just a quiet drink one afternoon. I recently got married and we were lucky enough to find Sarah and Paul (Owners) and had our reception here at the Crown. We had the marquee out the back which is beautifully lined and has a bottle bar inside. The food was outstanding, we had a bbq package and they fed all 50 guests at the same time - amazing!! We had popcorn, ice cream, sweet cart, quality sound system and a great range of drinks. The whole day was perfect and Sarah and Paul played a huge part of that. As did Sarah's mum and dad who helped on the day. We very much felt like part of the family. We had an amazing wedding day, our guests are still talking about it and we look forward to becoming regulars at the Crown. Thank you Sarah and Paul ( mum and dad too).

We arrived at the pub after a fabulous walk along St Edmunds Way and we’re massively disappointed. This was on a beautiful Saturday lunchtime and there was no beer to speak of. We were grudgingly served a lager and soft drinks. A walk past the kitchen seemed to suggest a lack of basic hygiene and the whole place was grotty. I think the staff thought we were an easy customer and we felt utterly ripped off. Two pints of lager, 7 soda gun soft drinks and 5 packets of crisps came to over £30!!! Avoid at all costs!

Excellent food and comfort after a 6 mile walk through the fields. All we craved was some pub grub and a drink and this place hit the spot. The chips were incredibly done, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The onion rings were as big as my face and the garlic bread was homemade! The service has also been brill as the two people working there are absolutely lovely. They've thought of everything. For the first time in about 5 months - we've been able to eat out! We chose the |crown as it was en route home and had a large marquee and was serving food early in the evening. And we weren't disappointed. The menu is quite small with lots of burgers and other meat dishes but there are veggie options. I chose the rack of Ribs which was huge (doggie bags ae provided!) and my wife had the veggie canneloni. Both dishes were superb. The locally sourced ribs were excellent and the chips were something else. I have had many chips in my time but these were as good as triple cooked in some Michelin starred establishment. Paul and sarah, the owners were really friendly and we know that we'll be back there soon.

I visit the crown fairly regularly and have seen a fair few different people running it. The current people are new to The Crown since summer 2019 and are from South Essex and really friendly. The menu is predominately traditional British dishes which is my preference but there are some alternatives to be found. The chefs specialty is home made pies which i can recommend. Prices are mid range and good value i think. There are some nice bears - including some real ales - and wines on the bar which should satisfy most tastes. I always visit on a Saturday evening and always enjoy it. There are usually only a couple of staff including those in the kitchen so it's probably best to book , especially if you are going as a group. Recommended.

I've read some of the good reviews on here for the Crown which is great, but we popped in after Church for a drink and it was a cold experience. I would have thought that over the Christmas period we might have been warmly welcomed, perhaps with a mince pie or nibbles on the bar. Instead of that, we were just 'served' and after, the landlady disappeared. Other staff members just talked amongst themselves with no interaction with us. Landladies/lords should be the heart and soul of the pub, talk to customers, make them welcome, even wish them a happy Christmas but no, nothing. This could be such a good village pub, such a shame.

Came here with family a couple of weeks ago and was not disappointed! We had an evening meal on a Sunday (they stop serving at 6.30pm). The starters were huge and the main meals were big too! We were stuffed! I had the Sunday roast and was most impressed. Meat was thickly sliced and plentiful, roast potatoes crispy, veg not hard(!) but cooked properly. There was 2 types of potatoes, roast and dauphinois (I think!) parsnips, carrots, beans and 2 huge yorkshire puds. Some of the party had burgers or fish and all the dishes were plentiful and freshly cooked. Visited again today (Sunday) with more family. We had seafood platter - oysters, mussels, calamari, prawns and dressed crab (£15!) which my dad had and really enjoyed. Another mussel dish, Lasagne, roast dinner ( lamb, beef, turkey or rib of beef) and a burger. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The bar lady was friendly and helpful and the food arrived in good time. The pub has beer in barrels for real ale fans and a good beer garden. No play equipment but plenty of space for kiddies to run around and lovely views across the stour valley. Will definitely be returning

We didn’t have room for dessert. Our host was friendly and helpful. The reason I didn’t give an excellent rating was if you want to pay by card it has to be telephoned through, not done on a machine. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and the service excellent considering how many of us there were. One of the party was gluten free and was catered for well. The prices are reasonable. This pub caters for traditional English grub, it does not try to be a fancy restaurant with prices to match. It also does great chips if you just want these with a pint! Good beer on draught. There is also a good public bar with a pool table and darts board although only room to play one at a time. To comment on the previous review about their dog, I would have been upset if a dog sat in the restaurant with me and the public bar is clean and welcoming.

Because we had our dog we had to sit in the bar, we did feel rather 'out of it' however the service was very good and the food was excellent. Although we may go back, there are many other places we can take our dog without having having to sit next to a pool table

we had heard some good reports on the new owners of this quaint country pub and decided to give it a go.

Managed to snag an outside table with a view of the castle. The chai latte had real depth of flavour and the cappuccino was good. My felafel salad was very good and the felafel were moist instead of dry like in most places. My partners chicken and bacon sandwich was generously filled and all at a very reasonable price. We’d deff go back here when next in Colchester.

Popped in after a visit to the dentists, hoping to grab some breakfast, but I was too late as it was 12pm. However, the lovely staff member did me a strong black coffee (very tasty, strong without being too bitter), offered me some toast and tried to cater to my gluten free diet, and later on returned with a packet of GF crisps as they had finished breakfast time. Very thoughtful service, and the sofas at the front of the shop are extremely comfortable, I did not want to leave.
