Best food I have ever had out of tiptree and will keep going back. Service is great and staff are always talkative to pass the time

The worst cod and chips we’ve ever bought. Batter on cod was so over cooked it had to be discarded and in turn the meat was totally dry. Chips were soggy, bland and gritty. . Won’t be going there again to waste our money.

If you like food, you will like this place. Good food, friendly staff & affordable prices. Wish I had a picture to post but ate the food too quick!

Bought two well fried battered medium cod. Large chips was a bit too large for two people in my opinion, but my fault for ordering it. Very tasty food. The queue on a Friday night was big, but we all fitted in the shop.

Went in earlier today just before they closed at lunch, food was lovely and hot and well cooked. Would definitely go back if I’m in the area.

Come on Bill, fish & chips are expensive enough, have been a regular customer for many years but tonight's chips were absolute rubbish, most were bits and went in the bin, please up your game or will have to go elsewhere

Battered sausage was to hard an over cooked, chips it's like picking 1 in 10 were edible

Visiting family.treated them to fish and chips got back to house and haddock was so small.i asked for a medium haddock it wasn't even a child's portion. To far to walk back so had to make sandwiches to make up for it.very disappointed.did here ower say there was no more haddock so I think I was given a scrappy end piece.as it was all wrapped up could not check it.cod looked very nice.will not visit again 8.00 for a piece for rubbish

I generally have a large chicken kebab, lettuce & Mayo, & yes it’s to die for piping hot, delicious & very filling, Staff are always friendly & professional.. & there’s so much choice.. excellent service, great prices.. Love Bills Plaice.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was told by a family member to try bills so we did this evening ( 17/2/2023) what a little jem wife had pie & chips and a sneaky Saveloy & I had a lamb curry & chips, definitely worth the drive over from with and would highly recommend anyone to try it, Bill, we will be back Almost forgot great value and the staff are very friendly and helpful

Chips cooked to perfection. Crispy battered cod cooked to order. Friendly staff. Had to wait but you have to order. Bit lite on the salt & vinegar so you have to say if you want more before wrapping.

Was recommended to try their freshly cooked family receipe indian food, and was not dissapointed. Tasty meals cooked to your personal taste at a resonable price, and far better than any Indian resteraunts in the area. Highly tecommend it to any indian food lovers.

For some reason they ask you to pay by cash now, (their preferred method) even though they take card payment. Chicken very dry, but fish very good.

Was passing through Tiptree yesterday evening 19/08/21, as taking my mother in-law out for the day to Mersey. Stopped off ordered fish + chips , sausage & chips and the best we have had in a very long time. The staff were really nice from the minuet I stepped through the door. A real lovely fish and chip shop. We be returning very soon. Well done team.

I am a Tiptree regular, and I have been in Bill's Plaice many-a time, and despite its rather endearing and clever pun, the food doesn't exactly live up to expectation. The staff don't exactly look like their hearts are in this business and the food takes the brunt of that disappointment. Needless to say, some of the staff don't look a day over 16, and child labour is a movement that I cannot monetize. I ordered the crab cake, 'crap cake' more like, and the gooey mush that passed down my throat soon made a swift gooey mush exit down below. Please fix your food. 2/10.

Food there Has been clearly cooked with a good eye the fish was amazing and the chips were just perfect.Also tried a curry couple weeks ago and they cook to how you want your curry.

So we changed our normal chip order to try Bills so called famous curries....... And we wasn’t disappointed. They are fresh, filling and spiced to order. Chips are okay if you don't mind them half cold and cooked... Chicken nuggets.. more like chicken chunks. Not cooked the best 🤢 don't taste the best 🤢

I don’t normally do reviews but this was abysmal, not fresh at all, dripping with grease, rude staff, the food must have been sitting for hours and just re heated but still cold, would never go back!

Dropped into this place unplanned visit after a local gig, took food home journey of 15 mins, thought the food was fab and the best fish and chip supper I’d had in many a year. Perfectly.. will go back x

Called in for fish and chips. Great choice of fish and sizes also pies sausages and chicken. Chips were not and good size portions. Manager James very helpful and knowledgeable. Prices fair shop clean and welcoming.

Bill's was always our go to for fish and chips when we lived in Tiptree, as they were always freshly cooked and spot on. Since moving away we haven't found anywhere that compares, despite there being dozens of them, so we drive all the way to Tipree when we fancy fish and chips. Bill's is the best.

Having had a successful party in February catered for by Bills we did it all over again for another party last Saturday. 53 meals all freshly cooked and well wrapped so lovely and hot. All our guests said how tasty it was, great portions and the order was spot on! We wouldn't go anywhere else highly recommend Bills.

Entre los varios lugares en el pueblo donde pescado y patatas fritas se pueden comprar elegí Bill Solla cada vez. Siempre me dan una cálida bienvenida de Bill, incluso si él está detrás de cocinar la comida. Todo el mundo tiene una ola y hola y él pregunta si queremos algo especial preparado. El sábado pasado celebramos una fiesta sorpresa para nuestros hijos 18 con una cena de pescado n integrado que pedimos facturas para satisfacer. Siendo clientes habituales que sabíamos que la comida sería bueno, pero para 40 personas de una vez por todas? Nada era demasiado problema hablamos con Bill y su personal unos meses antes y de nuevo varias veces para ultimar detalles. Como acababan de atendidos 200 + fiesta la semana o así antes de nuestro grupo sería un suspiro! Todos llegamos a tiempo recién preparado y aún caliente. Muchos clientes han comentado la comida era tan buena y sabrosa. El personal es siempre eficiente, amable y proporcionan un gran servicio. Recomiendo encarecidamente las facturas para llevar o fiesta.

Este fue un lugar frecuentado de la mía cuando vivía en el REINO UNIDO. Ahora he emigrado, Bill Solla está en la cima de mi lista de sitios a los que ir cada vez que visite el Reino Unido. Went here for the first time today, good quality food at a good price. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was immediately served up in a decent portion size. Recommended and would return.

With lunchtime offers too this is a good chippy. It offers pretty good quality food at affordable prices, never had a problem here

This was my first visit to Bill's, to celebrate a friends birthday. We'd booked a table and on arrival were warmly welcomed and a drinks order taken promptly. Waitresses were efficient, helpful and courteous and the food was delicious when it arrived. A pleasant environment but rather subdued lighting for my liking.......didn't spoil the experience though. The cost was average with the bill working out about £30's each for 3 courses, several bottles of wine and some 'shorts'. There were six of us all together. A very enjoyable evening.

Came to Bills for a Christmas treat with the girls had the Christmas menu it was amazing! Compliments to the chief very thing was well presented and the food cooked to a high standard and the puddings were to die for. Staff friendly and helpful and a lovely atmosphere.Would recommend a visit to everyone and will defiantly be going back again

Discovered Bill's a few months ago in Oxford. Visited Colchester Bill's over a month ago. Downside? It gets busy. Upside? It's worth it. The food is just really good grub. Really good. Not pretentious, just really tasty fresh food. Delicious. I've not been disappointed by a Bill's visit yet.Brilliant.

We were out shopping and wanted a quick cheap lunch,Bills looked busy and so we popped in,without checking the Menu.Nothing wrong with the place at all the food that we saw served up was really good and there are no complaints that way.In fact the puddings looked even better.But this is just not the place to go for a quick cheap lunch.For an average family on low income it would be tight.As a comparison to Weatherspoons or Toby a lot more which some would find hard to find.For dinner yes no worries.

We started our evening in bill's with a starter each and some very good red wine. I had the halloumi cheese which I loved!!!!! We were all happy with our mains (meat,pasta,quinoa salad...) there is a big variety for everyone! :) I also got to say that the staff was perfect! So friendly,caring and quick. Location is a stunner itself, romantic and comfy. Next time I will try the Bill's foodshop as well.

Been here many times as it's right near my office . The food for a chain is very good . The breakfast are pretty much perfect . The staff are friendly and fortunately have calmed down from when they first opened .

Found the fish burnt, probably from old fat. The chips were soggy. worth a trip the other end of town to his brother's shop which is better.

Visited for dinner in September and had a lovely meal. Really nice food, great staff, would definitely recommend, look forward to my next visit.

I have purchased food from this store a number of times now and the food is absolutely amazing and delicious. It is just awsome !!!!! Always hot , fresh and cooked to perfection. I am a very fussy person with impeccable standards, and I must say that this is the best traditional fish and chip shop that I have come across in many years. Very good contenders for the Best fish and chips in Essex. Would take some beating !The staff here are top notch, polite and friendly, cant do enough for you. The shop itself is so spotlessly clean, you could eat your food from the floor.Well done guys ! And a massive thank you to Bill and the lovely lady who made it possible for me to have fish and chips at five lakes..There is only one problem which I must mention .....Be careful, as you may well become hooked on this Gem of a place !

The prices are high for Colchester, the service very friendly, nice atmosphere, alot of small plates you can eat, for example burger - quite good

High quality food and service. More expensive but justified compared to other chains. Also Small menu, which is usually a good sign for freshness and makes it easier to choose.

Great new place to eat in colchester ,friendly staff , awesome food , we went for breakfast one Sunday morning sat outside in the sunshine , we mentioned it was our anniversary breakfast and at the end of our meal they gave us a lovley gift of chocolate cookies , nice touch thanks ...

Very popular fish & chip takeaway in Tiptree for good reason. Food is cooked fresh & of very good quality so much so that we use it for our Garden Club's AGM fish & chip supper which normally has about 45 covers. Well done Bill & James

The restaurant decor was very nice but the menu was not so good. A quick stop for lunch but unfortunately this was not acheived. With no dishes really suitablefor a quick lunch. It was a set meal which was more sutiable for a evening meal but after looking could not find an alternative. Lunch took over 1 hour 30 mins, was rather ordinary and by now I was frustrated as I needed to be away. Would not go again as there is many lovely restaurants in Colchester with sensibel menus and appropriate serving times.

Ate here on a Saturday when it wasn't busy. Our food took over 30 minutes to arrive and the waitress was exceptionally rude. Firstly, we did not have enough ware and napkins on our table and these were not brought until AFTER our food was served. Some of our party had completed their meals and the waitress came over and took our plates!! She reached over the member of the party who was still eating to reach the others. APPALLING SERVICE and this increased our members anxiety of eating in public. Finally there is a 10% service charge added to your bill which I would not have been paying only for it being compulsory.Will not be in a rush back here.
