The Crown, Thorpe-le-Soken in Tendring

First time having a Roast Dinner, you've got to try it. AMAZING. Not had a decent roast dinner in a while. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to go again.

We visited here today for some lunch and a coffee and we were very pleased with the quality and selection of meals available - very generous in portion sizes too. Very polite friendly staff. We will definitely be back soon.

Held a 50th birthday party on Friday 9th of August, James and his amazing bar team couldn’t have looked after us better, great atmosphere, lovely pub, nice food 5 stars for everything this is deffo the place to book if you want a party in Thorpe le Soken Peter

Went out for meal for fathers day 6 of us and the food was lovely, had Roast beef and it was cooked to perfection. Everyone was happy will be returning

Run down, garden full of dog poo, offers child play area but deemed dangerous with that amount of dog waste laying around. outside table gave us splinters. Was offering ‘tapas’! I lived in Spain and none of what we ate compared to Spanish tapas. Over priced. Could be a lovely place but needs a lot of TLC to bring it upto scratch. Not feeling great after eating what was served. Shame really.

Really good food and very friendly service and staff

The whole place has been painted beige inside presumably for the benefit of customers who hate it when pubs have any character or charm whatsoever. Rubbish food. Burger was two cooked-from-frozen kids burgers. Can make much better at home. I was given the excuse that there was only one chef instead of the usual three, but we were one of only two tables in there. They deducted the burger from the bill, but really we should not have had to pay for any food as it was all sub-wimpy.

The food was very good and service excellent. It was a very pleasant meal.

Awful Sunday lunch. Had to wait 1h+ even though I was told that it was almost ready (had to wait another 30min). Overall the food was horrible. The roast potatoes and chicken where overcooked and very dry. Also, there where very few

Had the most amazing Sunday lunch at the crown. The beef was super tender and lovely crispy roasties veg cooked to perfection, and staff friendly and on the ball. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely come back sooner rather than later

Stopped here because we had been turned away from two other Clacton pubs ( we hadn't booked anywhere) but it turns out, things happen for a reason. In this case the reason was that we found the best kept secret in Sunday lunches ever. I for one have paid a hell of a lot more for a roast not even half as good. All the veggies where cooked exactly to my liking, the beef was definitely in the top 2 I've eaten and the Yorkshire pudding was transcendental. Also all the staff where genuinely friendly which is a massive plus. The only down side is that I expect to have trouble getting a table next time I'm in the area

The 1st time we've been here ,very friendly and welcoming straight away so decided to have sunday lunch ,so pleased we did hubby had roast beef which was exceptional tender, cooked perfectly i had the chicken which was seasoned really well (and i am fussy 🙂) haven't had such moist yorkshire pudding for ages will deffinetly want extra next time ,the veg was just the right side of firm ,thank you all for making our day finish in such a good way will be back ,deb

Staff were so careful re Covid precautions, I am pleased to say. The food (Sunday roast) was delish.

If you're looking for a nice place to stop for a drink in a welcoming environment, including a car park and beer garden, then I recommend The Crown. New to us since lockdown-lifting we've enjoyed good beer and snacks, sunshine and banter. The children can play on the grass and the picket fence keeps everyone safe... pets seem to be happy as well. The staff are super friendly, offer table service and take plastic... I can't wait until their restaurant is open to enjoy what Chef has to offer.

visited the crown the weekend. wow has only been doing Sunday lunch for two weeks family had roast dinner and scampi I have never liked parsnips but ate their honey glazed ones beautifull. all staff fantastic

We go to the spa every year and for the last 4 years have always come to this particular pub. Every year it has got better and Sunday afternoon even though we had no reservation they made sure we had the chance to eat and couldn’t have been more welcoming. Staff were fab, the new decor is much nicer, good food. Wish you all the best and we will be back!

After a meal out last night, my fiancé and I popped into the crown for a quick drink but ended up stopping there due to how welcome we were made to feel. The owners are absolutely lovely and Mia who works behind the bar is a real credit to them, such a beautiful young lady, inside and out. Will definitely be going back.

Loverly bar staff, we take a group of young adults with learning disabilities on Monday. They really enjoy themselves.

Tried to have lunch here on a Thursday afternoon at 12.30, only to find all doors locked an a local person informed us that the pub only opened on days that they advertised on the notice board outside the pub, even though their Facebook page and Google said they were open from 12. Wont bother again

It's got a POOL table!!! yes!!!! plus very attractive barmaids who offer great customer service.

Service wasn't great but might have been a one off because they were short staffed.

Wouldn't move a lunch booking by half an hour. Not entirely sure why since it was 75% empty the whole time we were there. But otherwise nice food and friendly.

It was okay coming here, however when my dad and I came to have a chat members of staff apparently thought he was my bf when he was my dad... I felt slightly awkward as he moved away towards Suffolk at the time and didn't really get to see him...

i have visited this public house on several occasions and noticed that due to the chefs food and new outlook on his investment in the pub it is changing into a place that you can get a good meal at reasonable prices. you feel comfortable and safe with the staff and the interior is shaping well from the past. it seems a lot of feeling is going into this pub and i have noticed that the chefs favorite place is the wall full of small mirrors. this pub has a good size area for the children to play in and ample car parking. i have only one criticism the pictures on this review web page desperately need up dating and i am shore the owners son could be an inspiration to his farther in showing how to do that. well done chafe and keep going.

The best place to spend Friday night with friends or having a lovely lunch with the family.

We have enjoyed all of the meals here and the atmosphere and service is very good, I have taken several of my family and friends, keep up the good work!

Recently refurbished with new owners with long standing pedigree of providing great food. Sunday lunch was very enjoyable . Thorpe has a good selection of restaurants etc this adds to the provision .

We stumbled across this little gem whilst staying at Elm Park Farm the food was Beautiful, the service was Excellent! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Very reasonable prices. Compliment to the chef.

This pub looks so much better from outside than it actually is when you get in. First thing you notice in the bar is the smell - dogs- and its quite strong and off putting. Then there is the toilet, which is a disabled for both sexes. You will stand for some time looking for the light switch, then you notice the remains of a broken pull cord which is now just a peice of string blackened by the hundreds of hands that have touched it. The toilet is tatty and smelly and not the place you want to linger. The food is pretty poor, frozen veg and boil-in -the-bag fish. We will not be returning here I'm afraid. (The other reviewers here must have been relatives or something)
