What a find just by chance popped in on a Sunday lunch time to find plenty of tables that were filling up fast we decided the Sunday carvery was a great idea the staff are all so friendly and happy to help what can i say about the food well the quality was amazing all cooked beautifully I would recommend this place to everyone

The best breakfast in Dorset. Wonderful locally sourced food and excellent coffee. We will be back to try more on the menu.

We received a lovely warm welcome from the staff who were very professional and helpful. The Sunday Carvery was excellent and children's menu was amazing value. We will definitely be returning!

Excellent carvery on Sunday especially when it was so busy because of mothers day. Nice little touch that every mum got a gift from the pub. Excellent food, service and friendly staff.

A birthday treat that was fantastic Sunday roast cooked to perfection and all vegetables cooked perfectly, from start to finish wonderful friendly staff with great service and professional hospitality, a must return inn that we will be revisiting soon.

I cannot explain how amazing this place is. The food is home cooked and incredible, the staff are so welcoming and friendly and the service is very efficient. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Very reasonable and extremely tasty dishes. Plenty to choose from. Been going here a lot and never had a less than perfect experience. This will always be my go to place!

Wonderful carvery yesterday! Tender meat, lovely selection of vegetables and great friendly service. Sadly although the desserts lovely we had no room. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Stopped on the way back from Weston-super-Mare. They supplied us with a meal (roast) even though they were not cooking until the evening. Fabulous service 10/10

The Inn benefits from plenty of private parking across the road. Our welcome was very attentive and helpful. The orders were taken promptly and the food came without undue delay. I had a chicken and leek pie, which was probably the best I have ever had in a pub lots of filling and flaky pastry. When I declined the chips, I was given extra fresh vegetables - carrots, brocolli and peas.

Absolute gem of a place that is really affordable for families. Went today, kids has the children meal deal (£1.99 for main and drink) all had different meals and I was surprised at how much food they got for the price, was delicious too! I has lasagne, partner JP with pulled pork, again absolutely delicious! Puddings all round, again did not dissapoint with size and taste! The waitress was very welcoming, polite and bubble, nothing too much trouble and provided great service to us and everyone else that was there. To top it off we got vouchers for return visit which I shall put to use in the next couple of weeks when I come for lunch with a colleague! Highly recommend a visit here to everyone!

Have been in a couple of times. First time going was lovely, impeccable service, and the food was divine. Returned again with family for lunch on Friday, who were all equally impressed. Husband noted that an individual who was on shift the first time we went in, was visiting as a customer. It’s a sign of a good pub when the staff eat there too! Would definitely recommend, and will be returning.

A very warm welcome, all staff were extremely friendly. We all had the roast which was delicious with a wonderful selection of vegetables. The dessert menu looked very appetising but we were too full to eat anymore. We will definitely go back....maybe make room for dessert next time 😋

What a fantastic carvery, great meat , very tender pork included with crispy crackling,and loads of well cooked vegetables with all the correct sauces including delicious home made horseradish I piled my plate far too high, but still managed to leave it clean! The service was impeccable, friendly and very helpful to me as a disabled person. Most important that was our dogs were welcome and also treated with great friendliness. The bill astonished me as far less than I imagined so also brilliant value for money. We rarely eat out but this is a place I will return to, especially for the very good value all you can eat breakfast there! Thank you Crown Inn for making me proud of our village when friend came to stay!

Last minute Sunday night dinner good quality food at reasonable prices, good service, all had something different from the menu, all very pleased.

Well, I think we’ve found our new go-to! Finally tried out the unassuming pub we’ve been driving past every day for the past few years, and just gutted we didn’t find it sooner! Went in on Tuesday night, not too busy but the waitress was very cheerful and made us feel very welcome. It feels like a breath of fresh air to have such a lovely little pub right on our doorstep, that leaves such a positive, lasting impression on everyone that walks through the door

Staff all really friendly. Food was great and lots of choices on the menu! Drinks are great especially the bottomless soft drink pints. We will be going back.

Booked a table last night for our family and two dogs. Staff were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us, dogs were made to feel welcome and there are toys and beds for them to help them settle, as well as treats on the bar. Between the 6 of us, we had the pies and ham and eggs and all were demolished. Whilst the choice on the menu isn’t huge, it’s all proper home cooked food and there is enough of a selection to give variety for everyone’s taste. Really enjoyed our time here and the locals were also friendly too. Price of the meal and drinks was very reasonable and was given discount vouchers for a return visit, which we will definitely try to do before we leave to go back home from our holiday. A very good local pub that’s worth a visit if your in the area.

I was very disappointed..had heard good reviews so thought I would try. I ordered the steak..couldn't eat as was full of tough sinu (sorry not sure how that is word is spelt)but offered to my companion who also could not eat. Left a full plate no question asked by server..not impressed

Do your self a favour and go elsewhere. The quality and quantity of food was awful. The portion size was very, very small. 1/4 of a tomato and 1/2 a mushroom, 1 small spoon of beans, a gristle filled sausage and over cooked flavourless bacon. Only thing that was edible was the toast.

Not a great meal at all .nothing more than canteen food Not a chef in sight . Didn’t even ask if everything was ok when they cleared the full plates of food away . Shame

We visited on a very wet and rainy July evening to celebrate our anniversary. Upon arrival we received a very friendly welcome and the pub was very busy with a great atmosphere and vibe of people enjoying themselves. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the newly refurbed interior felt cosy and inviting. We definitely plan to visit again soon to try the carvery.

Six of the family went along for Fathers Day dinner, 3 of us had the carvery the rest had different dishes from the menu. The food was fantastic, well cooked and really good portion sizes. It was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. Thank you so much to the wonderful hosts for making it a really enjoyable experience.

Blinking Brilliant! We had a 5 person reservation today for father's day. We were welcomed on arrival, shown to our table, drinks orders taken and delivered. Food excellent, service lovely - have already booked a table for our anniversary. They have got it 'Right!' 👏🤗👍

First visit. Very friendly. Menu basic. Typical pub food. Didn’t notice any salads!! Not bad pricing. Portions good and tasty food. Nice coffee. But no bisc.🤦‍♀️ I do believe that it should come with a saucer, spoon and bisc or choc. Sometimes people won’t or can’t have a dessert and this can be the best option to finish a meal. Just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

This establishment is now under new keen and experienced management who have made the restaurant very welcoming. The pub’s previous reputation was not good and it never seemed to have many customers. All that has changed now and it is very “user friendly” with lovely, efficient and friendly staff and they have made great effort to change this reputation. They have done that in spades! There are lots of tables and it seems to have so much potential. Four of us went for lunch and, to be honest, we found the menu to be a limited selection of basic pub food. I am aware that they do other dishes but it generally stays within the same culinary confines. The service was efficient, the food came out quickly, it tasted delicious and was cooked well. There’s nothing wrong with this approach because the market exists for such food so a “stick to what you know and do it well” approach is not a bad concept. Trouble is, lots of other people are doing the same thing nowadays and I think the menu will need to develop as will the presentation of the food which was a little rustic. The presentation of the sandwiches can certainly be much improved. It will need more than a static menu with the odd “specials” to fill all those tables and attract people away from other establishments selling the same food. I think you are more likely to return if you know the menu changes occasionally and includes some unusual dishes. All that said, it is very good food. We certainly enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning again and I truly want these lovely people to succeed. It’s hard enough nowadays in the catering trade with limited resources and the financial pressures don’t help so I hope this will be taken as construction criticism. I can certainly recommend a visit, you will be well looked after and I have a sneaking suspicion that, over time, things will change here further. Well done guys.

This is a really great example of simple things, all done very well. Friendly atmosphere and an experienced manager in charge. We had a tiny error with our meal, which was handled exactly as you’d hope and without hesitation. I wish the new owners all the best and every success.

Quite recently changed hands I think so went to try the place for Bottomless Brunch today. Lovely warm welcome, food was plentiful, fresh and well cooked, gluten free sausages were amazing. Really nice atmosphere and very clean. Will definately return to try main menu

Excellent Sunday Carvery Lunch and terrific cauliflower cheese! Large portions of meat and self service vegetable with a very good choice. Very friendly staff. The owners have only been here for two weeks and they have carried out a good refurbishment. Recommended.

Been here a few times for drinks, always friendly and welcoming. Decided to try out their lunch menu recently and was not disappointed! Smashing food, great atmosphere, and if you’re stuck for choice I’d definitely recommend the lasagne! Will definitely return.

Hosted a hen do for 10 of us and had a lovely meal with great service (including from the barman, Mark - sense of humour as dry as the Sauvignon Blanc!)! Highly recommend!

We are always greeted very warmly whether eating or just popping in for a drink. Food is great, home cooked from finest ingredients and plentiful. We always take our friends and family when they visit and we are never disappointed. Great Dorset pub 😊

Turned up in our motorhome, allowed to stay the night in the car park. Nice, well conditioned ales, good home cooked food. Friendly welcome from the staff and the locals. Good prices too. Will visit again.

We stopped in here for a quiet Sunday lunch - very quiet, as most of the country was in front of televisions watching England's World Cup football. Here, a television was available without dominating in one bar but we could enjoy our lunch well away from it in the restaurant area.The pub is an ancient stone building, suitably updated, standing in the village a few hundred yards back from the A30. It is family-run and service was attentive and helpful. Most of the menu is standard pub fare, home-cooked, but the desserts deserve a special mention. We shared a lemon roulade to finish, and that in itself justified the choice of The Crown. There is a good size car park across the road, although the road is quite busy and not all drivers observe the speed limits.The pub also has self-catering apartments on site.

There are not many places around Gillingham that serve food on a Sunday night, and after a day at work and too hot to cook we decided to try The Crown, as we drive past it every day. Although it was very quiet, we had a warm welcome and good service. The choice of menu is good and the food was delicious. Wanted to try 1 of the many desserts that were listed but I could not fit it in. The portion sizes are more than adequate. Will definitely return to sample some more of the menu.

We went to this pub during the week, late evening. Warm food is available till 9.30 - which was right in time for us after a long car trip from Germany to have some dinner in nice atmosphere and friendly service. We had good fish, a burger and steak - combined with good ale and beer. This pub was already known by us from a trip 6 years ago - and again a good decision.
