The Crown Hotel at Boston Spa in Leeds

Absolutely awful. Waiting staff lovely, but the chef and manager really disappointing. Went on my birthday for lunch for 4, 2 kids burgers and 2 adults. They all came out heavily chard , we attempted to get thru it as best we could as thier were no staff around and no one did the check to see how your meal is. We thought ok we shall mention something at the end.. We did this only to be ridiculed and met with hostility, with the chef walking past intentionally showing his discust at our complaint...we simply asked for a discount, instead we received 2 complimentary I've cream for the children. Which would cost them pennies....we paid 75 pound. Disappointed, angry ,terrible customer service. Certainly wouldn't recommend.

Have been numerous times before for food and have enjoyed. Today the food was burnt. No table checks were done. Didn't finish my meal. Left hungry. No offer of money off. Disappointed and certainly won't be returning. And won't be recommending.

Lovely pub after the renovation, great place to catch up with friends. Staff are friendly and polite, nice pub food.

Great outdoor seating area, and very light and airy restaurant. Fab for sunny days.

Went for dinner , waiting ages for food and when I came nothing to shout about ordered 2 lots of chips to go with our sandwich which cost £7.90 just for the chips, and there wasn't many , The cheese and tomato sandwich was more like cheese on toast , not good and will not be going back ( overpriced)

Visited on Saturday night 1st of February 2025 for the first time .I had been in here once before but on a Service Visit. The bar was quite busy and waited to be served The tall bar man seemed far more interested chatting with his customer mates in front of us than physically serve us. A guy appeared to our left who obviously wanted service( who I gathered was a regular )and as we assumed we were going to be served .Clearly The barman had no awareness or wasn't bothered that we had been stood waiting. Not welcoming .Had one drink and left .Too rowdy. Bar staff definitely need some customer service injection of skills .Won't be back

Second visit for an evening meal with friends, enjoyable food, well looked after by Emily, will come again.

A family friendly pub that has a great atmosphere. We are regulars here and I can't fault it in any way.

Disappointing. We visited for coffee and cake on a cold afternoon after hearing good reviews. The bar staff looked like they didn't want to be there. We waited 20 mins for hot drinks (they did say there'd be a 5 minute wait as they were getting milk from the shop, but had they said 20 mins we'd have gone elsewhere). After chasing up our hot drinks they eventually arrived. I had to ask for milk for my coffee (ordered with milk), and teaspoons for the kids hot chocolates. No cutlery was given with the cakes. All in all poor service. I wouldn't visit again.

Very busy, but plenty of bar staff. Good choice of beers. Nice to sit outside under heaters on a cool evening

The Crown is a very large family friendly pub with a restaurant as well as more traditional pub dining near the bar. It’s the kind of place I would go with family, friends or work. I would not recommend it for a special occasions (e.g date night) as there was a lot of noisy kids. It caters well for large groups; we were a party of 12 but I reckon we could have got 20-30 people in the room where we ate. The food was good quality (above average pub food) and represents value for money. There is also a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The only negative is that the service was quite slow, but we were a larger party. It took 40 mins from ordering to our main courses arriving. The kids were getting quite hangry!! Would we go back or recommend it, definitely - four stars 🌟

Really disappointed with the food service and quality. Arrived at 12.30 after booking a table for 12 people for food. We were told to order separately from the bar as they cannot provide table service. 6 party members were allowed to order food and 6 were told they cannot order there food until 2pm. This meant the children in the party could not eat. Service for food was not great and the food quality, especially for the cost, was poor. Gyros came with only three pieces of chicken and the end of the lettuce. The staff feedback was that is how it comes. It was clear that they run out of food and just put something together. The bar staff were very friendly, would recommend a drink in the pub but to avoid the food.

I thought this place had improved after lots of bad experiences last year. Sadly today we took friends and we were embarrassed that they had to pay £50 for burnt pizza and fishcakes despite the food taking so long that they had to leave half way through to pick up their son. I spoke to the manager before I left and he seemed pretty disinterested in my feedback to be honest so not convinced they're looking to improve. He offered a measly 10% off next time with nothing to show to staff to proove the gesture - I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a joke? Our main waitress was great and very nice. She and her colleague seemed pretty embarrassed about the burnt pizzas they served us. I would have sent the food back but because it took so long to arrive we just didn't have the time to ask for that. Had I known it would take well over an hour to arrive after ordering we would have dined elsewhere. It's my local pub and it's beautiful. I want to love it. I'll continue to come for drinks which are generally good but swerve the food next time for much better options in Boston Spa.

Had a family reunion here about a month ago on a Saturday night. There were 6 of us. Unfortunately the experience was pretty dire. There was something either wrong or missing from virtually every dish we had. The curry was supposed to come with rice… no rice. They gave us a free desert, and that was then missing an ingredient. My uncle tried to bring this to the attention of the manager but she quite simply didn’t care. A shame.

first time visit, after hiking around the Boston Spa, arrived 1:30pm on Wednesday, plenty of tables available in bar area, the restaurant was quite busy. we ordered fish and chips, firecracker chicken, bonfire burger. the firecracker chicken was spicy hot but the rice and chicken was in small portion. the bonfire burger, and fish and chips were tasty. the rhubarb and apple crumbles and sticky toffee pudding were ok.

Searched high and low for a place to eat Sat evening and came across this place. No probs with not booking and got a nice place and good menu. Waited 45 mins for food, but staff were very apologetic for this before we felt a need to say something. Subsequently knocked off the service charge. Only niggle was 2 boys running around shouting and shooting customers with toy guns. I think the staff might have said something to their parents as they eventually calmed down

Very average, waiters didn’t have much enthusiasm and the food was meh. Waiting a life time to get served at the bar, I think we need professional bar staff not the current setup.

Decent boozer. Good place to take family and friends.

Lovely pub, great food and great atmosphere

Just been for Sunday lunch here for the first time and it was really disappointing. The food was cold, the service was poor. I had the steak pie, which if hot would have been nice, but all the veg was cold and the broccoli was rock hard. My partner had steak pie and chips but the portion size weren’t great. Queried the cold food and was just told it because they are really busy. We had dessert but there was no lemon sorbet and no apple crumble left. We asked for custard with the rhubarb crumble alternative and was brought both with ice cream. When question it was just brushed off and then custard appeared but we had already finished eating. For £6.95 the brownie was tiny. Overall nice venue but disappointed with the service and cold food.

We visited with friends who live in the area Would have to say in all honesty I would not go back my beef sandwich was a shocking excuse for roast beef being overcooked chewy and to be fair it looked like somebody's leftover and if we hadn't been with friends would have complained but tobe fair it was a difficult one as sometimes you feel that it would have spoiled what was a really nice catchup and the drinks 🍸 were good so as I say put it down as a place not to revisit Shame !! At least 2 of the four meals were OK !

Very small portions comparing to few months ago and the prices felt higher than few months ago. Overall felt like a bit shrinkflation on the plate. Roast potatoes extremely hard and difficult to cut. Sticky toffee pudding very dry with small amount of sauce. Not sure what changed, but I will be changing my dining place for sure. Beware of 10% service fee added to your bill! The meal left us all hungry and out of our group, everyone was disappointed about the portions and food quality. Trying Tickled Trout or Castle Inn next!

Really easy with a large group and definitely with kids, but thought the food was only ok.

Very friendly staff,but almost 20quid for a Sunday roast is far from worth it,2 rubber roast potatoes 1 yorkshire pudding and little veg,shouldve gone to a carvers and filled my plate for 14 pounds less,asked me for a dessert and I order a kids burger and chips to actually fill me,them they tried charging us for the kids meals that were free,then had the audacity to ask for almost 9 pound service charge,not worth it at all and the,pre cooked roast potatoes and some of the meat was dry.

All 3 of the gyros we ordered were cold so sent them back and got fresh ones. Beef one no hotter than the first one except the chips. We won't be going back or recommend to anyone. Such a shame.

I have been coming here almost twice every weekend since the ending of governments covid lockdown. The food drinks service accessibility and atmosphere have always been very good indeed and I will always continue to come as long as I am able. I can recommend it to anyone !

First visit (unbelievably). The best customer service in a pub for a long, long time. Very courteous and accommodating. Different rooms giving a different vibe. Large outside area with live music. Dog friendly, child friendly. Just need San Miguel rather than Moretti on tap. Didn't try the restaurant but it looked very appealing.

A bit confused - showing as hotel but unable to see a room booking system. If it’s run as a pub then this should be made clear so potential customers are not wasting ten minutes trying to figure out what its business is.

Been here a couple of times on a Sunday and always find the atmosphere and service to be fantastic. The roast I had in March was lovely, but as a pescatarian it is slightly disappointing that there isn’t a veggie alternative option - they basically just don’t put the meat on. It is cheaper than a roast with meat which is good, but it would be nice to have something there as a replacement. Other than that though it’s brilliant and well priced.

Me and my other half went to the Crown hotel. We were served by Sam who offered great advice and guidance on the menu and also recommendations. The food came quick and tasted amazing. From Sam’s recommendation we got dessert and it was lovely. We will be back again to try more option on the menu.

Lovely interior, bar and service, however mainly disappointed with the food.

It was very quiet and early doors. We ordered pizza and chips. The chips were soaked in oil as if they’d been cook time after time. Worst I have ever been served. We left them, complained to the waitress who said ‘that’s how we do them!’ Then I complained to the bar man and he said, ‘ I’ll tell the chef’ but never came back! Never again will I order food from The Crown in Boston Spa.

Nice place for sunday dinner, dog friendly, the staff not so much, witnessed “the manager” shouting and making staff cry in front of people, this was too much to see so we walked out, as well as anothers.

Food was really good, drinks were cold, seats comfy and the staff were nice and personable.

Great little gem in the village. Lovely food and staff so friendly and helpful. Hope to go back very soon xxx

Visited on a Friday evening. Bustling pub, friendly atmosphere and a decent pint.

Very nice atmosphere. Really nice breakfast, not so much the dinner service. We ordered two ‘shared’ mixed grills - which consisted of one sausage each, half a flat chicken breast, a minuet piece of gammon and overcooked steak. The manager ignored us for over 20 mins as he was taking orders, a group of workers just stood around at the till point could be doing this, and you could focus on sorting genuine customer complaints out. The only good thing about it was that one of them was comped - only when we asked though. Please do better. Boston Spa needs a good pub! 👍

Went twice in one week! First time for a cooked breakfast which was perfectly cooked and quite large! The second time was for Sunday lunch- again beautifully cooked (great crackling!) The service is perhaps a little slow but the people were lovely and the food was amazing. I’d definitely go again.

It was packed had to wait awhile for table. It was extremely busy so the staff did well.

Food was good but service wasn’t great , waited quite a while between courses and had to ask a few times for service. Once bill arrived they tried to charge us for kids Sunday roasts, when it states on the menus they eat for free with an adult main. Service charge was also incorrect so bill was over £60 over what it should have been. Feel like regarding the kids meals you don’t tell people about this and hope they don’t notice. Disappointed really.

We had 2 pizza and 2 cokes £35 is horrendous. Pizza for £16 is too much. Service is shocking, waiting 5 mins to be served then getting asked if we're 18, when it is a free house.

Very nice food and a great place. The parking is horrendous and expect a short walk as the car park is small. The food and pub itself makes up for this with a great experience.

Lovely welcoming place, good choice of food (a lot of pie once chopped up and chips on 😀) and puddings! Car park, dog friendly (not in conservatory area) log fire. Toilets up lots of stairs but accessable one on ground floor. Be nice on a dark evening as lots of lights. Outside seating too plus good place to rest, eat, drink after a nice walk/hike!

Does what it says on the Lab but definitely needs improving. We waited an hour for our meal in a noisy busy lunch time. Indifferent quality. Toilets were messy, needed cleaning. We won't be returning

Came in on Saturday to find there was live DJ, she was absolutely brilliant, should definitely have more events like that. Great atmosphere, great playlist and just overall brilliant, it really lifted the mood up from what it's usually like on a normal Saturday! Would love to see this happen again!!

I was only in for 1 drink but nice large pub with different areas so when not so busy doesnt seem empty. Nicely decorated.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Its a lovely welcoming place and friendly staff. The downsides for us was the food potions on the small plates was too big and we'd preferred cheaper smaller portions. That said the food was excellent. We stopped for longer than intended and would happily have stayed all evening if I wasn't driving.

Booked our work Christmas lunch. Some of my team were reluctant as they had been before and felt the food and service was poor and not value for money. We work at St Johns School for the deaf and want to support our local businesses so decided to give them another go. I explained this to the Restaurant manager who reassured me that they had worked really hard to address the issues raised by customers. They have retrained and recruited new staff and worked on the menu. Our meals were very good, we had chosen off the festive menus. They cater for all tastes and preferences. The whole process from booking to ordering was very smooth and professional. Definitely would go agien. The environment was lovley and the staff are friendly and helpful. Looking at the latest review seem to reflect this improvement.

Excellent pub, really enjoyed it, we will be back.

Booked a table of 20 for my daughter's baby shower on Saturday 4th November from 12.00. Communication with AJ prior to the day was excellent. On arrival we were surprised by how busy the restaurant was for 12.00 on a Saturday but this added to an excellent atmosphere. The food arrived and was served well, there was a slight delay with 3 of the food orders, but was rectified as quickly as possible. There were no complaints about the food, great portion sizes and all plates were more or less empty. Good service throughout our booking, would recommend and will definately be back to sample the brunch menu which looked delicious. Thank you AJ for making our afternoon special xx

We went for a meal yesterday and had pre booked as there were 20 of us, it was really busy and had a great atmosphere. All food arrived in good time, service was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meals. Couldn't fault any of it, staff regularly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend.

We had a delicious lunch in the Crown today. Fish and Chips and a Blue cheese and Parma Ham Pizza. Both were excellent and served by a very helpful and pleasant young man. We had a lovely lunchtime experience and will be back soon. Thank you.

Really great night with family, good choice on the new menu with a number of new dishes that went down really well - the chicken in rosemary and lemon was superb, as was the fish cake starter, and generous with the portions as well. The quality of service was great with a really friendly and helpful team, including Georgia who was only completing a trial, glad to know she passed, and thanks to Amy for picking up the later part of service Highly recommend, great atmosphere, environment, food and drinks, what's not to like, we will return 👍

Great village pub! Loads of seating, dog friendly and a decent selection of craft and draught. Four of us ate there tonight and had an absolutely incredible meal at great value for money. The menu is varied and the food is fantastic. Really friendly and relaxed staff and we had great service from Izzy.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Crown. My husband had the Sunday Roast Dinner with Pork, Beef and Cauliflower cheese and said it was the best Sunday Lunch ‘Out’ he’s ever had! We both had starters and puddings which were fabulous. I had the Lemon Tart with Raspberry Sorbet and it was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had also! The atmosphere was great it was busy but not too noisy- just right. (Photos were taken when we just arrived) They were so attentive when I needed boiling water for my baby’s feed-nothing was too much bother. Staff were really friendly. We have actually decided to book our Son’s Christening party here. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We can see it been a regular place for us to visit. Highly recommend!
