Lovely dinner - essentially pub classics (home made pies etc) - I had the Steak and Kidney Pudding - really nicely made suet crust and great filling - my wife had the chicken bacon and leek pie which was also excellent. Really nice choice of beer. Staff were all very friendly. We stayed the night too - very comfortable and warm (a must for my wife) room - well equipped. Top notch breakfast in the morning (with someone who knows how to properly cook sliced black pudding).

Loved our visit today . The staff are so lovely and took their time to make us feel so welcome and our little dog Louie . Just what a pub should be . Sunday lunch was spot on and the leeks an added bonus . Serve fast and hot and even a little plate for Louie . Despite being a busy bank hols and us just popping in we felt like regulars . Bonus of a lovely singer and the pizza oven smelt great . Wish we had a pub like this at home .

On a trip to fish the beautiful River Nene we needed somewhere to stay. The Cross Keys proved to be the perfect solution. From the first contact to reserve the rooms - no deposit required, to changing our booking, to our arrival in the early evening the staff (Naz and Lily) where nothing other than perfect. Our rooms we well appointed, dinner was great as was breakfast and the packed lunch. The atmosphere in the pub was one you would hope to find anywhere that was a clear focal point for the village. Next time we’re in this area we’ll definitely be staying again.

A great place to start and end a circular walk round some lovely countryside. Finished with a tasty lunch washed down with good local beer (Kings Cliffe Brewery) in pleasant surroundings. Very much a traditional pub which has comfortable furniture, and full of charm. Holidaying at Rockingham Forest Park and decided to have a takeaway from the local pub for six people. We had steak burger, fish and chips and steak and kidney pudding. From ordering to putting our dinner on the plate was great, if there was one comment it would be that the steak and kidney pudding had 2 large fatty lumps in it but apart from that the meal was faultless. Definitely recommend.

This pub was recommended to us by several of my partner's friends, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The Sunday roast was beautifully cooked and if you have a big appetite this place is definitely for you. We arrived just after 12, and they managed to squeeze us in as they were really booked up. I would definitely recommend booking. It has lovely outside spaces and several comfy cosy rooms. You can imagine it in the depths of winter. They only do roasts on a Sunday. A veggie option is available. The only, criticism (not a word I would really want to use) is that they could halve the amount of veggies without taking away from the meal, yorkies spot on, and i loved the stuffing ball. The price point is spot on! Sadly, absolutely no room for pudding. Will return to try main menu soon.

We visited the Cross Keys at Kings Cliffe for lunch. We ordered a gourmet burger and a chicken burger. Unfortunately the gourmet burger was served tepid and was very greasy. The chicken burger was served only marginally warmer. However the accompanying chips and onion rings were piping hot and it was as if the burgers had been left waiting for the chips and onion rings to cook? We did not complain as we genuinely felt sorry for the lovely waitress. We were looking forward to some “delicious home cooked traditional food” as described on their website. Sadly everything appeared and tasted like it was frozen bought in products rather than homemade? The Cross Keys is a lovely old traditional pub, the waitress was very friendly and helpful and everywhere was spotlessly clean but based on our experience we would not return.

To say I was disappointed was an understatement. We had booked our room and checked to make sure everything was alright, making double sure as our eight year old granddaughter was accompanying us! Not good and quite frankly the "apology" received was pathetic!! However on the bright side the staff I spoke to were charming and helpful.

However, it was no problem at all to order our meal, we were shown straight to a table and handed menus. We thought the prices were very reasonable and there was lots of choice. The food came surprisingly quickly considering how early we were and it was all well presented, hot and very tasty with large portions on each plate. I had hunters chicken, a favourite of mine, and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had, delicious. We all thought we were too full for dessert but 5 of us managed anyway! The desserts were really nice & unusually there was plenty of custard, most places these days only give you a tiny jugful. The food lm afraid was less appealing as considering we chose off the A la carte menu l was hugely disappointed. I’d gone on recommendations from this site and left wondering if the chief had left. I had the Piccate Milanese Chicken, which sounded interesting but later realised the only interesting thing about it was it’s name. Breaded chicken and chips basically with not a hint of garnish in sight. My fellow diners had fish and chips and steak both of which were mediocre but we didn’t get the opportunity to express this as we weren’t asked if everything was alright when the bill was paid. Guinness was good tho !

We enjoyed chatting to the landlord and lady, the local beers were excellent (we had the Cross Keys, concocted by the landlord) and my Steak and Stilton pie was the best I've ever tasted; I felt very spoiled with the tastes! We would love to return and try all the other dishes, and a couple more beers.

Called in just for a quick drink and was so pleased we did. The selection of drinks available and glasses were excellent. The bar man was so friendly polite and had a good laugh with him. To say the least this quick drink ended up a few pints and hours later it was brilliant. We will definitely be back. The food on the menu looked fabulous with homemade pies and other selections. We had a brilliant time.

We've been meaning to visit the Cross Keys for a while since moving to this area, so glad we did!!Had Sunday Lunch today and we were not disappointed, excellent value, good quality ingredients and plenty of it, topped off by a delicious homemade rhubarb crumble and custard. It was every bit as good as a home cooked roast and pud, with a friendly atmosphere to go with it. We had a warm welcome from Geoff the Landlord, and a friendly chat with some of the locals in the bar. It's an ideal pub for walkers and they welcome well behaved dogs. The sandwich menu looked good too. We'll definitely be returning to sample some of the other home cooked food that Janice produces. Thank you.

I have always wanted to visit this pub as i spent a large amount of time at my grandparents house in Park street 100 yards away as a child. The Cross Keys is well over 200 years old and is packed with old features....the original 18th century salt cellar being one of many.We were greeted by the landlord/landlady and asked for a table for 2....we were not expecting this as we were walk ins.We ordered the Roast Beef lunch which at £8.95 was a good price. The food turned up fairly rapidly, stuffing and Yorkshire puds were excellent however the roast potatoes could have done with a bit longer(still nice)The veg, cabbage, carrots and broccoli were spot on too.As we left i looked at some of the many pictures of Kings Cliffe of yesteryear....and got lost doing so....fascinating stuff.A cracking pub that sells good beer/ales,food was not bad and the greeting was excellent.Visited 23rd Oct 2016.

We have been eating and drinking at the Cross Keys for over a year and it has become better and better. The hosts, Janice and Jeff, are always welcoming and make the pub attractive and comfortable with a great, real fire during the winter months. The food is of really good quality and the menu is varied and interesting. The sausages are actually made on the premises and the meat comes from locally-reared pigs. On certain nights the delights of the menu can be had for only £12 for two main meals - superb value for money! It's fantastic to be able to saunter to such a great, friendly local pub and we would recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys the traditional, local, English pub.

We walked from Fineshade, from the woods it wasn't far into the village to find The Cross Keys Inn. I am one of those people that always pick up loads of mud on my walking boots and trousers so wear gaiters with my boots. The trouble is when i take them off I get my hands covered in mud so it is a bit of a pain. The landlord was very kind and said I didn't need to take off my boots but I felt uncomfortable making a mess of their pub. We had a discussion and he offered me plastic bags to cover my boots, this was so helpful and worked really well. The food was great, I had a BLT wholemeal sandwich and my husband had beef and onion, they looked lovely and tasted really, really good, great after the walk. Filter coffee was also good quality. Felt much better when we left ready to walk back through the woods to Fineshade car park. Made the day perfect :) We will be back. Will go with my friend in the summer with her two dogs as it will be perfect for sitting in the garden. Also noticed that there was a sign about food allergies, my friend is allergic to gluten and diary so guess they will be able to cater for her requirements.

As ever we had a wonderful evening - celebrating my daughter's birthday. Nine of us had great food, great ale and a great warm and welcoming atmosphere in the pub.Although we don't all live in the village, it's always so easy to chat with the staff and the locals - everyone seems so friendly ( must be the effect of the Cross Keys ale). The food is superb, but please don't have the filo king prawns ... THEY'RE MINE!!Chris A.
