Lovely, friendly and welcoming pub/restaurant. Visited for lunch with 5 friends. This was our second visit, which was just as good as the first! Excellent food, great service … and very reasonable prices … definitely value for money without compromising on quality … if you are around Chatteris this is definitely the place to eat! We will be returning.

I first visit The Cross Keys Hotel/Restaurant for my aunts birthday celebration meal in January 2024, the atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. So good that we returned for my partners birthday celebration meal yesterday. We were served 15 wonderful meals! The meat was perfectly cooked, the dessert selection is 10/10 and the service was brilliant. I highly recommend visiting as soon as you can. We have been looking for a restaurant to visit for birthdays and various other celebrations for sometime, as there are so many of us, this isn't always possible. I am disappointed we hadn't visit sooner. Thank you to the Cross Keys team and your wonderful new chef, Sammi!

We went on a recommendation it didn't disappoint. On walking in, it was like they recognised us by name which was very impressive. We had booked and again it was a real pleasure asthey asked if anyone had any allergies or dietary requirements. We were quickly seated and the attention to detail was again very impressive. We think we spoke to the owners who had a fantastic sense of humour and put us all at ease. 4 of us for starters, mains and dessert and no exaggerating, we had the best steaks ever. The desserts were home made andnot some overpriced cake from Costco either. The decor is simply fantastic. Afterwards we had a guided tour and it was impressive! Overall, 10 out of 10 for service, food and drink quality and simply a fantastic experience with excellent value for money. We couldn't fault it.

I’ve spent a few nights here and have been able to experience an amazing old England atmosphere whilst being surrounded by kind and welcoming people.. the owners are very family oriented and adoring people, who enjoy the old England history and artefacts, as reflected inside the hotel walls. Wherever you eyes take you, you’re bound to find historical pieces and art.. the overall structure of the building also very well reflects the historical aspect of old England. The rooms themselves are each very different in look and personality yet equally link to the old England theme, no room is the same. Alongside of its looks, the food is equally as impressive. From breakfast, lunch to dinner, the food you will find is delicious, and very well made. Full English breakfasts, the extremely popular cottage pie which lives up to its perception. Steaks, burgers and so much more… all made fresh and with love. I recommend this place to all, from history lovers to people simply looking for a comfortable place to stay. This is the perfect spot!

A very traditional and sympathetic building but there is more, a lot more. We stayed for a weekend after choosing somewhere south of us from Spalding. There was a lot to chose from obviously, but within an hour or so we settled on Chatteris as the crime rate looked low, looked promising as a hub to explore the Fenlands and its natural beauty of bird spots. We rang around and liked the sound of the cross keys, a very warm welcoming feeling flushed over us so we booked direct and it did not disappoint. The attention to details, the historical artefacts, the respect shown by everyone to each other was very moving. The room was immaculate, spotless and well stocked with condiments. We ate on both nights and the service was 10/10, the food equally so. We made the right choice! Speaking to what we now know as David and Rebecca, the owners we were enthralled to receive a guided tour of their function room and other rooms. A well in the floor, wow! Flagstones in the middle, swords and shields everywhere, it certainly captured our imagination. Where else could you stay in a magnificent 'palace' like this at these prices? It was like Hampton Court. The Wi-Fi in the room was exceptionally fast as we understand a previous resident had ripped out the RJ11 cable whatever that meant but David certainly knew his technical stuff. We felt very, very safe with all the CCTV cameras around and how all the regulars looked after each other - even leaving their wallets and cigarettes on the bar as everyone knew it was perfectly safe. We did venture out just out of curiosity along the High Street. Walked into one pub a few feet up and walked straight out again, no thank you. Then across the road to another establishment to see a strange man sat in a room on his own grinning to himself in the window. Again, we walked in and walked out. There were some nice shops in the high street. Overall, we made the right choice and cant thank the staff and regulars for really making a great experience.

I have stayed here 3 times in the last couple of weeks for work puposes and i have to say it is one of the best experiences in a very long time. From entry to exit, i have found the staff, the owners and the regulars all extremely knowledgable and took an instant liking to the style and flair of the establishment. They have some of the best real ales I have ever tasted and cannot fault the blonde Legacy (along with Norfok Gem and Doombar). The selection of drinks, champagnes, wines and spirits is incredible! Steak night is extremely popular on a wednesday and thursday night and a bonus curry night on a friday. The menu is large and i understand they are looking at revamping their dedicated vegan menu. Great to see they are forward thinking with their Christmas menu and christas buffet menu. I hope I'm still here in December! The food has been some of the best I have eaten and put it all together in an incredible setting and that is 'The Cross Keys'. Simply perfect, traditional and a true english treasure. Prices for the meals are more than reasonable, in fact excellent value for money. I felt very safe, the wi-fi was excellent and the use of technology in the background is incredibly subtle - cctv etc, secure card transactions and the like. Overall, a big thank you to the owners David and Rebecca for doing a splendid job not only for raising the standards but giving everyone a chance to contribute to some great bar conversations. I love it here and would not stay anywhere else in Chatteris.

It's been 2years or more since I have written a review but now I am back and "oh boy" what a night, thanks in part to David and Rebecca, proprietors of The Cross Keys Hotel in Chatteris and all of their wonderful staff By offering invaluable advice, helpful suggestions, ideas and guidance they helped steer me through "that mad idea I had to arrange a surprise 60th birthday party on my limited budget and with only 6 weeks notice. I chose The Cross Keys as I was keen to support a local business, and also friends at Chatteris tennis club had said it had a "really friendly relaxed atmosphere. And so it was, with the help of 2 "partners in crime " (who shall remain nameless for fear of reprisals lol, but without whose help I couldn't have managed, the party was planned. I realise now that there really was no need for me to KEEP popping in to check the arrangements, but each time I did I was met with a warm smile and the reassurance that "everything would be just fine",and it was. Even after I had forgotten to ask for tea and coffee for the non drinkers. Within 5 minutes of arriving hot plates were immediately added to the tables where the cold buffet was so beautifully laid out , and piping hot drinks were ready and throughout the night the tables were tidied, and the tea and coffee pots were topped up. I know there are those among you who will read this and say"well that's what they get paid for "and in one sense that's true, but for my party guests and I were made to feel as though nothing was too much trouble and I am convinced that it was this attitude and friendliness that helped the night what it was,a truly special party.

staff were lovely and the pub is very quirky and interesting. It was a busy evening as the rugby had been on but fortunately we had booked a table. The food, sadly, was disappointing. The steak was OK but horrid oven chips. The salmon, rice and brocoli was bland and uninteresting. The deserts were very poor, we had to complain about the "homemade" bread and butter pudding as it was rubbery and reheated in the microwave. When I complained the waitress said others had already complained but they carried on serving it !!! The restaurant was cold too. Venue and stsff 10/10 food 2/10

Well what can I say... we made the decision (a wise one to say the least), back in 2017 to move to the Fenland town of Chatteris. We decided to try out the local pub aka The Cross Keys, alongside the peaceful way of life and better deals in housing, this place sealed the deal. We had one of the famous £5 lunches, with a few premium drinks. We were welcomed by David and Rebecca, who are always friendly and accommodating and to date continue to be so. The Cross Keys is a national treasure, in the winter a roaring fire and local banter, in the summer, an “al fresco” experience outside with views of the lovely local church. The place is steeped in history, and every wall with a story of interest. David is also a fountain of local knowledge! The roast dinners are by far the best in the area, with gravy surely to reach Michelin standards! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and know your drinks order before you do!This place offers friendly conversation, history, company, and above all an experience that makes you come back every week. Even the dog veers to the door on a dog walk, as the bar welcomes a friendly pooch. All in all, one of the finest drinking/eating establishments in the area. Covid guidelines are strictly adhered to, but not punitively so you feel safe, yet informed. Love this place, and long will we continue to always frequentThank you David and Rebecca. Overall, once I could confirm to the owners the letter of authority from my head office that I was a key worker everything went amazingly well. From start to finish we really felt welcomed, did not have to wait to be shown the menus and was bowled over by the selection of drinks. Our friends turned up a few minutes late due to their baby sitter and the staff instantly put them at ease which set the atmosphere for the night. It's a laid back, very happy sort of place. The menu choices are really good, typically British and with a number of other restaurants in the town you could easily 'eat around the world' in a week. Chatteris is quite a cosmopolitan place! The food was truly tasty, hot and the portions were large. The service was impeccable. After the meal and some great desserts, we 'wobbled' back to the bar and found a really cosy speak easy set of chairs with a perfect height table. The Cross Keys has come a long way since the new owners David and Rebecca took over. I have been visiting my family and friends over the years and was eventually persuaded to give it another try after a bit of a fall out with the old owners. I have to say, the atmosphere is extremely laid back, cosy and a truly great feel to it. Nice to see that the pub part is now open all day and not closed during the afternoon. The food part is more than impressive and has gone exponentially good in my opinion as you can see how the trade has picked up significantly. What I also like is how the side rooms and rear function room is getting used more and more as businesses seeking a neutral ground are booking the rooms for business purposes with the options of LED projector and sound systems in a discrete environment. It's a great place and clearly there is a very smart business plan being implemented by some very smart people. Probably the best bit is watching how all the staff get treated as equals and share the laughter.

Wow what a difference from the last time I had a meal in here over 2 years ago, we went as a family and booked the private room for a celebrating, we ordered a carvery with a starter and dessert. The food was beautiful - a restaurant who services yorkshires whether you have beef or not and the size of the portions for both starter and dessert was indeed quite large. The waitress service was very good and very patient with a lunch time group of 20 odd people who were running late because of traffic.Would recommend.

Stayed here visiting friends having booked months back. Very welcoming and efficient checking in. Room quaint, 4 poster bed very comfy mattress and not a level floor to be seen.Didn't eat there, apart from a good breakfast, but food looked very good, well presented and reasonable price.Obviously a popular haunt for locals too.

We had an amazing time, the staff were lovely and the chef's food was amazing. However, having been a few times now over the past year I am disappointed with the lack of seasonal menu. They seem to have a brilliantly trained chef as have had some of the specials but this does not seem to match the menu.

Stayed here recently as we were attending a family wedding reception. Arriving here, we were greeted by a nice girl. Very quiet though, she checked us in and told us where our rooms were, asked us what time we wanted breakfast and pointed us in the direction of where that would be. We went to our rooms which are like stepping back in time (minus the TV and the shower)! Beautiful and full of character!! The only downside was the shower, the power supply was on the outside so you had to go in and out to change the temperature. In the morning we were greeted by, I'm guessing the owner and he was lovely. Gave us a little history lesson about the building which was nice! He sat us down and we had a lovely full english. There's cereal, fruit and juice available too.

Spur of the moment decision to have lunch out. Even though the menu was reduced due to holiday period we still had a very nice lunch including dessert for a very good price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be returning soon.

Cross Keys was a very enjoyable experience. A very friendly place, great food at an unbelievably reasonable price. Great historic decor. Great selection of ales including the wonderful Adnums Broadsword. Must be the best place in Chatteris for lunch/dinner or just to quench your thirst. Would highly recommend.

We stopped here for lunch and received a warm welcome. I was in a party of 6 people and they very kindly allowed us to sit in the restaurant area and had it to ourselves. We chose off the £5 lunch menu, 5 of us had Scampi, chips and Salad and one had the jacket potato with chilli. The size of the meals were plenty and very tasty. The waitress serving us was really friendly. If I was in the area again, I would definitely return.

The only place open during the week for lunch. The sign outside said hot and cold food. Assuming that there would be a decent menu. Wrong, sandwiches, salads or Jacket Potatoes. I arrived earlier than my friend and had to wait ages for the Barmaid to serve me. My friend arrived we asked to see the menu and the Barmaid pointed to the two boards. We both ordered cheese and ham sandwiches, they were awful and the woman that told us where to sit, was extremely abrupt. That will be the last time we will go there.

The pub is charming as was the lady in the bar (Charlotte). We ordered scampi and chips, which was delicious and was served by another lady called Helen. We had puddings too which were delicious. What I liked was we weren't over-faced by the food. Other people in the pub were friendly and we will go there again. Thank you Cross Keys you are a diamond in the Fens.

Had a lovely traditional Sunday lunch at the Cross Keys. Loved the cosy atmosphere and wood fire! Lunch was served nicely and tasted good. Starters of baked Camembert and broccoli soup were rich and tasty. We’d come back!

I have loved this place since 1981. Circumstances and life meant that I had not entered it for almost twenty years. Today I went there for lunch. All I can say is that new owners have only added to the ambience of this wonderful old building! Still the aroma and unmistakeable warmth of the open fire, the original old beams and overwhelming feeling that maybe, just maybe, there might be a ghost round the corner. Oh, and by the way, the food was good as well. And the coffee was the best I've had for ages! Must say I doubt if it will be another 20 years before I return!

We booked here as a family member was having a 50th birthday party at the hotel. We arrived in the afternoon to be greeted by a lovely mature lady who gave us a key to room 5. Upon opening the door a lovely 4 post bed we set our eyes on. The room had a en-suite with shower. Now please don’t expect holiday inn standards. This is a listed building so their hands are tied on what they can do. The room suited this listed building and loved that the floor wasn’t level as it blends well into the history and character of the place. We went for a drink before the party and the regular locals where a joy to chat to. You could tell they was proud of the place and where they lived. Breakfast was served hot and ample pots of tea. I loved this place and would recommended it to any one who likes to stay away from the main brands. Just for the record they provided the food for the party and this was just as nice as the breakfast

After reading the opinion of Nicola M I felt I had to reply as my daughter and I also had a meal in The Cross Keys Hotel that evening. We heard alot of what was said and how it was said and it was obvious to me that Nicola M was being argumentative and rude! It seemed she had no intention of paying for any of the meals that her and her party had ordered AND eaten. My daughter and I both had steak, which was cooked as we asked, the chips were absolutely fine and all cooked and the peas had been strained. It appeared to me that this woman was enjoying causing a scene and in my opinion, the owner handled the situation calmly and was respectful even though she was very rude.

Returning to this particular hotel as we had such an enjoyable previous two visits, our family remarked again it was an excellent choice for a celebration. Again we were all so delighted with the excellent food, and I have booked again to take special friends for an important birthday celebration in October.

My mum s is a local and had heard that the pub had a new chef/owners and was good. We booked to eat there Thursday 2nd August for her 70th. The pub was busy. They looked like they could have done with more staff as only 1 girl front of house/bar so waited ages for a drink. The same girl also greeted you and took your food order.

We needed a big room to host my sons 18th birthday for 25 family. The owner was more than happy to accommodate us on a bank Holiday at no charge. We were offered a great fixed price menu with two or three courses available. My in laws had specific dietary requirements and these were met brilliantly. The filo salmon parcels were off the scale delicious and the selection of perfectly cooked vegetables was great. When it came to cutting g the cake, the owner asked if we would like to use a beautiful ceremonial sword!!!!! The pub itself is very historic with amazing and beautiful nick and knacks, shields, crown's, swords and other such stuff. It's very old and quaint but beautifullly looked after. The loos are really clean and the service was excellent. I cannot recommend this place highly enough

Called into this local pub which we have not been to since change of ownership . At first very quiet then got busy after 30 mins on a sat lunchtime . Quick menu was very tasty and tremendous value for money but considering it was quiet when ordered was not quick . Approx 20 mins but maybe it was all freshly cooked and was worth waiting for . Food delivered hot and pleasant enough staff but please smile .Will be back again .

We booked a table for 10 family and friends. The meal we had we all agreed was good. Will come here again. The only slight gripe I may have was the speed of service. There was only on waitress, who was great, but our meal seemed to come out very sporadically, think this may have been the kitchen not being able to complete all the meals at the same time! As I say the food was really good so don’t let it put you off, give it a try.

I recently had a dinner for 36 people at the Cross Keys, service was good and the food excellent, the Host and Hostess David and Becky looked after us all well, that included overnight accommodation for some members of our party who were pleased with the bedrooms and the breakfast. The owners have only just recently taken over so have as yet got their feet under the table, very accommodating couple who should be a big hit in the future.
