The Crafty Dog in Chesterfield

I came here with my partner for Sunday lunch. We both had lamb and it was amazing. The lamb part of the meal was very substantial which makes a change from other roasts we have had at other places which have a very small amount of meat and too many vegetables. I also noticed how much trouble they have gone to be covid secure so it felt very safe. It is so important to support local businesses during these troubling times.

I visited with my family for the ‘Half Price Pizzas’ night. The pizzas were ok but only really worth the £5 we paid for each pizza. There wasn’t any sides available and the waiter kept mentioning that they had run out of bacon even though the pub is directly opposite a supermarket!

So glad that independent places like this are opening up in Chesterfield, and a nice salute to the Brampton mile. Popped in on a Saturday for drinks and food, and were impressed by everything. One of the best cheeseburgers ever - very light. The cauliflower bites were superb, with a Chinese spice thing going on. The food is obviously cooked by someone who knows what they’re doing, which makes a change, and despite the limited range (burgers, pizza or a sandwich), we will be going back - Less is definitely better, and doing a small amount of things well, though I would like to see more healthy options (salads, veg). Excellent service, great range of drinks, nice atmosphere, very clean / nice decor, and well managed regarding the current COVID situation. Ordering from the app is easy, and I like the multi-choice options. My only criticism would be of their wine and spirits list - a better / more premium choice would be great. I highly recommend that you give this place a go.

Booked a table for tonight and upon arrival were greeted by a friendly member of staff and shown to our table. Unfortunately when we were given the new limited menus these were different to the website and my dad was unable to order anything so we left without eating. I understand restaurants are operating with reduced staff and menus etc. But it may be worth publishing the smaller website on your Facebook and website to avoid disappointment.

We went to the crafty dog to try it out on tuesday 18th august 2020...we were not disappointed. The food was lovely, great atmosphere, with everything that is going on, no sooner had someone touched something I.e. the toilet door...there was someone there cleaning it! So so impressed!! Thank you so much and see you again soon!

This was mine and my boyfriends first meal out since lockdown has been lifted and we were really pleased we ventured to the Crafty Dog!The staff are just ridiculously nice and service was really quick Loads of good beers on tap - thornbridge and beavertown, brew dog etc The food was just what we wanted - we may have overindulged slightly would recommend for vegetarians and vegans too! thanks guys!! X

Friendly and modern Pub , with an impressive range of Drinks. We have called in here on a number of occasions , but as yet , we have not tried the Food. Menu looks interesting , so this is very much on the ' Things to Do List '.Well worth a visit !

Soooo many beers on offer and a nice place to be. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Pizza are very good if you get peckish.

Good variety of beers nice atmosphere and music, we all had pizza and they were very nice, will return keep up the good work.

Called in on Saturday night, it was not busy but we were ignored by the staff when we tried to order drinks, after around five minutes of waiting we left and took our custom elsewhere afterafminutes

First time eating here and I left very disappointed. There was a long wait for the food and when it did arrive it was rather underwhelming. We went on a Friday night and was told it was a new menu so this could be down to new dishes! However, we both ordered the Boa Asian chicken burgers and both were extremely salty and over cooked. The chips were pre salted also which was a little over the top for my liking and also tasted slightly of fish ... considering we hadn’t ordered any fish maybe it’s time to change the oil... wouldn’t eat here again. Definitely more of a drinking pub for me.

I like the atmosphere in the crafty dog and they have really great beer and a good selection of wine and spirits. However I would say they need to improve the way they serve food. We came here for a meal in a large group and it was a really mixed review, mainly that the food was incredibly salty.That being said, I would come back and give it another try.

Would normally like to tell them myself however plates cleared without one word uttered from staff. Considering the plate was full still I can only presume they don’t care. Came here for food when 1st opened and honestly was great, came on quite a regular basis. Couple months ago had bad meal, gave food a miss for a while. Today thought we would try again, £40 for two main dishes and two pints is a bit steep but if it’s going to be good then fine. Honestly this was probably the worst meal I have ever eaten. Near enough inedible (mashed potato was lovely) lamb fatty and awful, couldn’t get knife through parsnips or roast potato’s, tasteless gravy. Think I’m more angry at myself for not complaining there and then but bar staff busy and the waitress didn’t speak! Would recommend the bar and pizza, however give anything else a miss. Actually can’t believe that any chef would send that plate of food out.

We all have a bad day!Short rib and lamb rump were very nice however the following issues:1. Vegetables stone cold - we requested fresh (hot) vegetables but they didn’t arrive for 10/15 minutes by which time we had finished our meal (minus veg!)2. One lonely roast potato does not constitute a roast dinner 3. Table not cleared of main meal plates prior to serving puddings - it was cleared by a man (assuming he is the owner/manager) who was socialising with family/friends on another table4. Sticky toffee pudding served hot but with cold custard - when concern raised with waiter he proceeded to check the temperature by putting his back of his hand in the custard. The pudding was removed and reheated - not replaced as it was identified as the last one when we ordered.We are raising these points as we have eaten here a number of times and have enjoyed it previously - we hope it was a one off and/or the points/feedback is taken onboard!

My friends and I arrived on a late Sunday afternoon around 4:30ish to be told they could no longer do anymore meals, only pizza. The menu was advertised till 6:30pm. We ordered pizzas for the children which were rather underdone and a bit of a let down.We could visibly see the young lad who was the chef walking around saying he couldn’t wait to finish and appeared serving our pizzas in dirty chef whites, rather than a member of staff serving.A real shame as I’ve had a nice meal here before. It looks like it needs some visible and passionate management. Needs help with customer service I’m afraid.....

Whilst visiting family in Chesterfield we were told what fab pizzas were served here. Not sure if any tables would be free at 7pm due to people calling for drinks, but were lucky to get one for the 3 of us. I chose the goats cheese, my partner the BBQ chicken & his daughter her usual choice of the crafty dog. These all arrived quickly and lovely thin oven baked base.

First time eating here after going many previous times for drinks. Went with a friend for a late lunch earlier and it has to be one of the worse meals I've ever been served when eating out.

We go to the ‘Crafty’ quite often for a drink but decided to go for a meal with friends instead of the normal and excellent venue of The Market, what a mistake.

We're regulars of the Dog and always find that the beer is exceptional, if you're after craft ale or real ale there are near on 30 beers to choose from. Wines, spirits, sparkling and non-alcoholic by abundance too.

We love going to this pub as it has a great selection of cask and keg beers, aswell as other drinks, spirits and snacks. By accicedent we looked at the menu and found out that the pizzas looked interesting, so we ordered one, the house speciality and some onion rings. We didn't have a long time to wait when the food was delivered. It was a very large pizza, enough for us two and a dish of 4 onion rings, which we thought was a bit pricy ( it's up to you to decide about this}, other than that it was a very tasty meal, and well worth a visit.

We came for Sunday lunch. I was actually swayed by the lamb & mint pie which was perfect. Fabulous food, great beers & lovely staff. The only fault I’ll say is they’re a little stingy with the veg. I got one roast potato & little veg. Though everything was thoroughly delicious

I had my birthday party at The Crafty Dog.

While I have no issue paying a bit more I then expect a bit more but sadly the Sunday lunch was poor. Not much food for over £10 considering the vast amount of carvery meals you can get for less. The roast potatoes had gone to a crisp with no potato remaining inside the 2 veg consider of hard carrot and broccoli which was ok. Chicken was ok but it was a sparse amount of food for the price. The food has gone downhill and we won't eat here again. Was compensated with a free drink and replacement potatoes and the manager was very apologetic but sadly with so many other places to choose from its our last Sunday dinner at the crafty dog

Shocking food, the rump steak was vile. There was more gristle than meat. If I'd have wanted a pint of grease on my plate, I would have ordered it. The rump steak was £16 but only £9 if you joined their club. It might have been a bad steak because I joined their so called club. Not be visiting again or recommending to anyone. Either improve the quality of the food or revert back to a drink only bar.

Me & five friends went for some lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I must say I wasn't blown away, the service was pretty poor. The food was okay, but the pricing for food and drink was really expensive £3.90 for an apple juice and a pint of ale was averaging out at about £4. The waitress seemed unhappy, I won't be going back anytime soon. The pub itself is nicely maintained it did take over 30 minutes to take our plates away.

My pub of choice while in Chesterfield by a large margin. Not that all others i visited were bad, it's just the combination of all the elements - stunning beers selection (every single one i tried was perfect or close to it), most hospitable staff i've come across in the town, the best music on air, too, and absolutely great pizza, keeping in mind it is not a pizza-special place. All in all - 6 out 5, great job guys, way to go! Cheers from St. Petersburg and see you soon.

Visited and eaten here twice. Great atmosphere, staff were positive and food was good for the price. Only one criticism.... they should have a cocktail bar separate to the main bar as it took ages every time I wanted to order a pint as every man and dog were ordering cocktails which took time to be made up.....

We booked a table online, it was busy when we arrived but we weren’t shown to our table we were just told the number. There were no menus on the table we had to ask and were told to follow the staff member to the bar to o get one! We then had the go to the bar again to order drinks which took an age! While we were waiting for drinks at the bar other members of our party witnessed a member of staff use cutlery from the cutlery/condiments table to open a door in the toilets that was stuck shut and then promptly put the cutlery back on the station!!! That was the point that we decided we were not going to eat there! We ordered a glass of wine and the glass was dirty and when this was returned to the bar to be exchanged the wine was simply poured from the dirty glass into another!! There was no offer to replace the drink completely!! We value our health too much to return

We visited the Crafty Dog for a drink , as opposed to a Meal. Modern contemporary ambiance with a very wide choice of Craft Beers. Service was friendly and efficient and the seating was comfortable.

Good selection of beers although Chatsworth Gold and Chocolate stout ran out after a pint .... food very disappointing as we had to revisit the menu three times to find something that was available.

Great pizzas and brilliant gluten free ones. A lot of new starters behind the bar. Trying their hardest. Great atmosphere, great drinks.

Went for steaks on the inaugural Steak night. We had a medium and a medium rare rib eye steak with peppercorn and mushroom sauces and all the trimmings. Both steaks were fabulous, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious.

How nice to be able to take your dog to a dog friendly pub/eaterie and not be confined to a delegated area.

This is a great pub, lovely beers and ciders to many to choose from almost.mi had the Chatsworth Gold which was excellent! The pub is quite extensive inside with a range of open plan areas to sit ot stand and chat.

I went here with my family one night for a meal. As soon as we walked in the staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. There is a vast variety of craft beers which could take a long time to choose from, but all that I tried were amazing. I had pie and mash which was incredible. It was a Monday when we went which meant quiz night! had such a laugh. I really do recommend giving this please a visit, I’ll definitely be returning in the future.

fantastic food, a great selection of drinks, a welcoming atmosphere and great staff! A party of 8 of us were well looked after and had a really great afternoon here. Already planning our return visit!

One of my go to venues for meeting with friends! Good food, large selection of ales and Prosecco on tap! Nice atmosphere! Only thing keeping it from the 5th star is the prices, I find it quite expensive.

Lovely place to eat and drink, the children’s menu was great also, the food was honest and tasty, not as hot as I like and also the room was quite chilly, service was very good

We have been to crafty dog a couple of good times and have always enjoyed it. Good atmosphere, good beer selection and nice decor.

I have attended here a few times over the Xmas and new year period. Called in on Xmas eve with a few friends before continuing into town. It’s a nice surprise to see what they have done to the place considering what was in its place before. We managed to get a table even though it was extremely busy. Was served quickly at the bar where they had a great range of drinks to chose from both ale and spirit wise. Also to my surprise we’re still serving food quite late, the food promptly arrived and was lovely would recommend the chicken and chorizo one. I will be returning 100%

Called in for a quick pint, and was surprised to find a myriad of pale ales and not one dark beer. Very unusual for a place like this to have only pales. Disappointing.

Well done Billy the manager is all I can say. Sometimes it's when things go wrong that's the best way to judge! We had a bit of a nightmare with our room but all I can say is that it was handled beyond our expectations and we're pretty fussy and demanding. Because of this I will give 5 for every rating.

A bit of a last minute Sunday lunch turned into a great experience from the point of reserving a table prior to our visit to leaving as very happy customers. The table for 8 was reserved as we arrived, the Sunday lunch was one of the best I have had in a long time, I had the beef and it was tremendous, compliments to the chef. We also thoroughly enjoyed the variety of drink options, I must recommend the mango cider, it was awesome, the father-in-law loves the rhubarb cider. The pub had a great atmosphere, a really quirky feel and all the staff were really friendly. The prices of food and drink was very reasonable, especially if you join as a member. Could not recommend this place enough, we will definitely be back

I love this bar, it is one of my absolute favourites. My partner and I recently got engaged and so we had a small, informal get together at The Crafty Dog with family and friends to celebrate. The selection of drinks is staggering. Firstly, there are 20 craft beers and 10 cask ales to chose from, with a nice mix of local and international breweries. Then there is a big range of guns and wines to chose from too. If you can’t find a drink you like in this pub, I don’t know where you will. Secondly, the food is delicious. It is your standard pizzas (they have an indoor pizza oven so the smell of pizza is always in the air) and burgers, but they are made with such care that you can’t avoid them. The atmosphere is equally wonderful, and all in all this is just a fantastic place to eat, drink and be merry :-)

I visited here on Wednesday, 17 October with some friends. From entering the atmosphere was relaxed, clean and welcoming. The bar staff were lovely and helpful. We came for a bit to eat - I ordered the argi bhaji burger. Overall this was lovely, the chips, coleslaw and bhaji were delicious, however, the chicken breast was extremely dry. So much so I had to douce every bite with mayonnaise.

My first visit was with a friend from overseas. We weren’t disappointed. During the daytime the place was busy with small groups having coffee and cake. We ate burger (I recommend the addition of chunky chips). Subsequent visits in the evening don’t disappoint. Brampton’s finest.

Nice friendly staff and great home cooked, fresh food. Really good beer selection with plenty of choice on keg, cask and in the fridge. Upstairs accommodation is clean and modern with everything you need. A super place to eat, drink and stopover!

I absolutely love this place,we have known it from the Red Lion days but never expected someone to come along & (upgrade) turn it in to such a lovely, clean, modern, friendly bar, where you can also get amazing fast food! Me &my; wife call in often for food as they do a gluten free pizza (my wife is coeliac & very sensitive to cc) & they are amazing,fully loaded & wife never been made poorly! The sweet potato fries are also delicious & generous portions too...love it! Hope it stays the way it is.

Visited The Crafty Dog a couple days ago and just had to make an account to write a review. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The food was great and amazing drink choices. Even better that it’s dog friendly! Will be making a visit here again very soon!

Great food and drink at The Crafty Dog with a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. The quiz on a Monday is great fun too and always very popular. The nachos are amazing!! Will be coming back very soon!

Just had a great Sunday lunch here with my mum, son and his girlfriend. Three of us had the beef ribs. These were drop off the bone delicious and a great change from normal roast beef. Mashed potatoes very tasty. My sons girlfriend had lamb shank which she reported to be delicious. Roast potatoes were megga. Cauliflower, broccoli and carrots also served.

Popped in for a quick drink on Saturday evening. What a treat! Lovely place, great atmosphere. Definatley be back.

Visited on a Monday lunchtime, a few people were eating but plenty of tables free, good choice of drinks available. Staff polite and friendly. We both ordered the Crafty Caesar salad and a portion of skin on fries, didn’t have to wait long for the food and it was lovely.

Thursday evening called in to this site, There were about 15 people in the bar and I had to wait to be served even though I was the only one at the bar. The bar staff was busy taking a drink for herself and after a couple of minutes asked me if I wanted serving! No one else on the bar and she asked a question like that, I asked for a cider and she showed me two offerings of cider from hand pumps but couldn't tell me anything of their strength or where they were made, I settled for a pint of Aspall of which she poured then continued to put her fingers around the brim of which she expected me to drink from and became quite upset when I asked for another glass to pour it into. There was also a lad who spent at least 10mins on his phone while singing quite loudly to the background music while he was suppose to be cooking Pizza, He did cook one and left it on the side never telling anyone it was ready for taking to a table, it must have sat there several minutes before the girl from the bar delivered it to a table, 3 lads who were sat near the bar on a table with food plates left on it had to return the plates themselves to the bar to clear their table along with empty glasses that also adorned other tables with empty glasses un collected. I could go on about the guy who was supposed to be in charge on his phone chatting as a load of lads who had been playing football all waited to be served but he seemed unconcerned about their wait.

Nice choice of beers and ciders in a well furbished pub. Staff very helpful and friendly. The food is good and not the usual pub grub.

Smart, buzzing, and serving a great selection of well kept real ales, this is a great place for meeting friends.

Eaten Sunday lunch here a couple of times now and both times the rib of Beef was melt in the mouth delicious; served with roast potatoes, really tasty mash, light and fluffy yorkshire pudding and well cooked veg. The only complaint is with the gimmicky tin plates that spin on the table as you try to eat and make the food go cold quicker than a regular plate would. Childrens meals were equally good (child's chicken roast dinner and fish finger meal) and went down well. Meal and drinks for four of us, 2 adults, 2 children, was good value at around £30 (if you join the free members club).

We decided to visit The Crafty Dog for Sunday lunch after eyeing up the food menu on previous nights out. My husband ordered the beef brisket, the meat was cooked to perfection and the whole meal was tasty (I definitely plan to order this on our next visit). My four year old son had the mini pizza and I had a chorizo pizza. The pizzas were so nice, my son and I couldn't get enough! We were pleased to leaen that The Crafty Dog continue to sell pizza late into the evening. I can see us taking this up at the end of a night out. Lovely food, lovely surroundings and friendly staff. We hope to be back again soon, next time for the burgers which we spied on the next table and which looked out of this world!

Ate here with my son when it first reopened. Food was amazing, atmosphere friendly and welcoming.

We really want this place to work, it’s such a nice idea for Brampton and much needed pub that isn’t the usual. But the beer can be a bit hit and miss as can the food and service. We’ve been and the beer is quite flat by the time your half way down a pint, other times it’s been spot on. Having 40 beers on must be a challenge but at the price you’d expect a decent pint. Similar with the food. First time we ate here it was fantastic, the last time we had soggy nachos, and a teeny tiny sharing platter (I think they must have been running low on the ingredients!) We didn’t say anything at the time as the young lad servicing us was rushing about as it was quite busy with drinkers. And let’s face it we’re English aren’t we we don’t do that sort of thing!

Went to the Crafty dog for a bit of lunch, the pub was quiet which was a good thing as we were hungry, we ordered two basic ploughman's with a side of chips, we waited 40 minutes?!?! for our food to come (only people in there eating btw) and that was after promoting the staff to check, we were told they were just plating it up but waited another 10 minutes so I'm guessing they'd forgot we were there. When it came the chef had microwaved the Porkpie?!? I'd genuinely never even thought of doing this never mind ordering it and for good reason, it was absolutely disgusting, the rest of the dish was "Ok" but the staff seemed more interested in talking about their personal lives than sorting the customer, won't be returning!

This is the second time I've eaten vegan food here and it doesn't disappoint. My carnivorous friend also enjoyed his huge tasty burger. Great value for money. Beautifully cooked and well presented food. Fab selection of drinks. Really friendly staff. The pizzas being cooked smelt delicious and looked yummy as they were served. Highly recommended! Can't wait to try more food!

Have eaten or had a drink a number of times at the Crafty Dog and it has always been excellent. Quirky different surroundings, great food and drink and friendly knowledgeable staff.

Great food, amazing booze and excellent staff! Will definitely be visiting often to sample more of their craft beer selection and delicious menu!

Visited the Crafty Dog for Saturday lunch, easy parking over the road in Factory Street.

Visited here on a hot afternoon, went inside to see the young girl behind the bar playing on her mobile? Ordered two large wines at a cost of £13!!! The place was empty inside and not surprising at those prices. The area outback was tiny but they had done the best they could with it. We came back inside to just watch the chefs and bar staff mess about. Won’t be returning, better pubs in Brampton with better prices and mature staff.

This place might look nice from the front but behind the scene is a different matter. They don't take care of their rubbish it's in full view of the local residents and has a vile putrid smell

Popped in here Friday night. We spend a lot of time down Brampton so this pub is a welcomed addition to the area. Unfortunately we didn’t stay. Firstly, you can choose from so many drinks as long as your a larger or beer drinker. I am a cider drinker! I had the choice of; Aspel, (too dry)

Went here yesterday for lunch. Didn’t check out whole menus but we had two sharing platters and a nachos between 4 and there was plenty of food at what worked out as £10 a head. It was delicious and well presented. Nicely designed pub with an amazing choice of beers. Probably 15-20 to chose from and choosing was helped by blackboards on the wall giving the details for each beer. We were most impressed and i would recommend trying it
