Recently had lunch here and just had to write a review. It was beautiful home cooked food. An old system in place with following the counter around with a tray but it works and when it works, keep it that way. Staff polite, hygiene great, nice to see the lady’s wearing hairnets and gloves. 5 stars for this. Can’t say a bad word about this experience and will be back. Good to still have a good cafe in Cookstown.

Week before Christmas we headed over to Cookstown for shopping early in the morning and get a nice breakfast. It was 8.30am and the Courtyard was the first place we came across so headed upstairs and looked around to see how it worked. I saw a lady behind the counter and asked if we sit down and she just said, no and pointed to the chicken run along the bambaree, ok… We felt under pressure to order but couldn’t see any menus so I just asked for a fry and my wife went for scrambled eggs. Then we were pointed over to the young girl at the till where we went over and paid and sat down at the window. Nice seat with view of main street. The fry was just ok but the eggs were terrible so she didn’t eat them. Just no customer experience and we didn’t feel welcome, maybe just too early in the morning..

We went to the courtyard for lunch with the kids. It’s always really hard to get a table as it’s so popular. I had the satay salad bowl which was just beautiful. That satay sauce is unreal. I just could have done with more salad like lettuce in my bowl. Staff are always lovely and really friendly. Food was hot and you could tell it was cooked fresh which is great. After buying thing at the market stalls on Saturday I asked the stall keeper a good place for lunch. He recommended this place and gave us directions. It is up the stairs above another shop. The menu is on the wall behind the counter. As the was a crowd coming behind us it was to make an order as it was our first time there. The staff were behind screens so you gave your order and then paid for it and sat down with a number on a wooden spoon. I ordered the club sandwich and my partner ordered soup and a toastie. Both came a short time later. It was a good choice all round. I got a portion of chips and salad along with my club sandwich. I looked around at some of the customers who were eating their meals and they looked tasty and plentiful. Only drawback there was no social distancing in the queue and tables were close together. There was a narrow corridor to the bathrooms and people were standing around waiting to use them. I would return their again when in Cookstown hoping they will get the distancing right in the queues for ordering food and the bathrooms. There is free WiFi on offered to customers

First time and last time! The servers at the counter rude and ill mannered no please or thank you and napkins threw on to the tray. Asked for the chicken stack which you could have with Champ or Chips. It was obvious that chips were an inconvenience for them. Went and sat down and after waiting and waiting our chicken stack arrived smothered in pepper sauce which we did NOT ask for we waited and waited again eventually our chicken stack arrived. There was one piece of beaten flat chicken on my champ and one piece of beaten flat chicken on a piece of garlic bread with the chips. We were offered a tin of lemonade for the inconvenience. There were members of staff sitting at a table having their break who were louder than any noise in the whole place and one even said the F word and had a good laugh. Disgusting considering that children were in the same room. Definitely would not recommend This establishment to anyone.

Doesn't look great, does it… but in the entrance hall are many (recent) awards, and inside (upstairs), it's a spacious place with plenty of tables and good service. Now you don’t go to an establishment like this looking for something pretentious and inedible from Masterchef; you want food that tastes good and leaves you feeling less hungry than when you started.Chicken Maryland was one of those dishes that was to be found on most restaurant menus back in the 70’s, followed by lashings of Black Forest Gateau. And in Northern Ireland, along with so many relics from the past, it still is.If you're not old enough to remember, it’s a variety of things (chicken breast, a pineapple ring, and a small banana) deep-fried in breadcrumbs and served with chips and sweet corn. If done right, as this was, it’s a satisfying delight. Everything was crisp on the outside, and juicy inside. And additionally served with a bit of salad and a slice of local bacon.I didn’t have enough room for the BFG ;-)

Quite simply, The Courtyard is a very very good place to eat. Its popularity says it all. Fresh food, food prepared and cooked on site, variety, value for money, pleasant surroundings and a great view of the street market in a Saturday if you are lucky enough to bag the window table. Its very busy indeed at peak periods so , if you can, avoid peak times. Go for an early or late breakfast, have Brunch instead of lunch, have afternoon tea instead of late afternoon grub. They do great cheesecakes and all sorts of ready to take home eats - but do order ahead ! Great place I can wholeheartedly recommend.

If you want to relive the heyday of high teas, you should book one at the Royal Hotel, Cookstown. Our party of 7 was treated to an old-style dining experience, in bright and tastefully decorated surroundings, thanks to our excellent waitress. Roslyn's attention to detail and to our dining needs were exceptional. We had what seemed to be three bottomless tea pots on the go; delicious sandwich fingers with an assortment of tasty savoury fillings; scones, jam and cream; muffins and a variety of exquisite slices all placed on three towering cake plates - a veritable cornucopia. At regular intervals Roslyn and her staff checked if we needed refills, that we were comfortable, provided boxes for us to take home excess goodies, and even demonstrated her excellent skills as a photographer, ably capturing our reunion of Northern Irish and Australian cousins for posterity. At all times Roslyn was professional, unobtrusive, polite, friendly, and caring - reminding us of days gone by when dining out was an absolute pleasure thanks to excellent cuisine served by staff who provided outstanding and friendly service.

Lovely coffee shop / café - food (breakfast, and a beans on toast) arrived hot - delicious, and great start to the day.
