The Cornish Bakery in Waveney

Lovely little bakery in this seaside town. food was absolutely divine, great customer service from all the staff. Very fresh and clean inside the bakery and lovely little court yard out back.

On our way to a coastline , we had a small stop in a lovely Southwold to refresh and refill, passing by your place we saw such a big variety of fresh pastries , that were smelling so good together with freshly made coffee that we couldn’t not to come inside and have some. Lovely place, great atmosphere- next time around we will definitely stay for longer.

Welcomed by a very friendly member of staff . Was happy i could bring my dog in . Ordered an oat flat white coffee . Couldn’t resist ordering a pastel de nata . Both were delicious . The coffee was lovely & complemented my pastry . I will be back for lunch as there was so much choice .

Although there were plenty of staff behind the counter they seemed disorganised and uncaring. Our particular complaint is that we ordered two black coffees and pastry, paid for them and then were left waiting and waiting while they prepared the drinks of three other large parties with complicated orders who had arrived after us, ignoring the fact that our tray with two waiting empty saucers was sitting on the counter. When I asked where our drinks were they first tried to say we had not ordered any! Then eventually found our 'ticket' stuck in their till and produced the drinks. Not a word of apology.

The food is great albeit overpriced but everytime I go in there (and I’ve been going in since it opened) the service is terrible! You get ignored constantly, always 5/6 staff members and one 1 serving so you end up waiting ages. Everyone is seems to be a waste of money. The lady who is either the manager there or whoever she is a real hard piece of work. The poor guy I had today couldn’t even put the sausage rolls in the bag properly and ended up using his fingers to fumble about with it I mean what is the point of having tongs at all. Maybe train your staff to handle food properly? Disappointing, I’d rather spend that amount of money elsewhere and get good service at the same time. Sucks too cuz the good is so great.

Pleasant no-frills coffee shop on the High Street in Southwold. Friendly staff and nice, simple, clean cafe. The pastries and cakes looked amazing but we didn't try them.

Brilliant food. Fresh and very affordable. Staff were very helpful and polite. Will definitely use this bakery again. Very pleased with the cleanliness of the premises, the food and the helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Rudely told after sitting at a table that we were unable to have tea and cake- it was takeaway only and we could not be served. This was 1.5hrs before close. The bakery assistant, just walked off.

Located in the centre of Southwold just around the corner from the museum is the Cornish bakery. Attracted by the vision of fresh Cornish pasties and cakes we were not disappointed. The interior is fresh and modern yet cosy and welcoming with the fresh pastries well displayed in the covered glass cabinet. Seating is available inside but was fully occupied when we visited, however we were offered seating in the courtyard outside and were pleasantly surprised to find it sheltered and heated making for a very pleasant stay. I had my doughts about the organic tea being a fan of a Yorkshire strong brew myself but need not have been concerned as it proved to be full of flavour and very refreshing. My only criticism is that the signage at the front is not that clear and had I not sought the place out with Google I may have missed it. Highly recommended.

Thank you to staff member Sharon who paid my bill by card as I didn’t realise card only shop and ordered etc to then find out when my order done , she paid on her card and I paid her cash and this avoided disappointment and my embarrassment and enabled me to enjoy my sausage roll and cup of tea after a nice walk round southwold with my favourite little dog poppy. Lovely little place for a pit stop and very dog friendly . Thanks again

Brilliant service as always, served by Mo who makes a perfect flat white and iced mocha to was down our brownie and coffee cake. Team are always happy and place is always clean and tidy.

Friendly, fast service by Mo yesterday. Happy to help and food delicious. Staff with a happy and serving attitude always appreciated. The cafe has recently be redecorated and looks lovely. The coffee is wonderful and I never feel rushed if I sit and enjoy it inside. There’s a lovely private garden out the back and you is dog friendly.

Really pleasant atmosphere created. Staff are very friendly, Lattes never disappoint, and the quality selection of freshly baked food is fantastic. The perfect combination for a genuinely enjoyable experience.

Saturday morning - around 10. What we wanted not ready. Manager ‘I’ll finish unpacking this delivery then I’ll cook them’ ‘How long?’ ‘20 minutes’ ‘OK - we’ll wait’. While we waited, a young assistant overcharged a customer. Manager summoned: took ages on till to try and resolved the matter, resulted in card showing a payment request not a refund. Manager said I don’t want to be £2 out of pocket if customer didn’t accept transaction; customer pointed out she would be £30 out of pocket if transaction was wrong. We like the Cornish Bakery, and have also enjoyed the Gloucester branch. But a bit of manager training is needed at Southwold!

Popped in just before closing and was welcomed by a very friendly team member. Coffee tasted delicious and sausage roll was really tasty and warm. The place was clean, warm and inviting

Came in by a chance and didnt regret it for a minute. We received a very friendly and warm welcome from the team, delicious coffee and tasty croissants. Definetly will be back next when we are around

Having written a review two days ago, re-visited Salisbury Cornish Bakery. As before, used crockery on many tables, and none absolutely clear. However, this time, they had run out of coffee! We shall not return.

We were the only customers in the shop, that should have been a warning to us to walk on by. We were given a knife and fork each, to eat our pasties, unfortunately all 4 were dirty so opted to eat with our fingers. Pasties were not great, contents dry and had probably been kept warm for hours. My coffee was tepid. We were also charged 35p for a sachet of tomato sauce each. Overpriced, disappointing and dirty cutlery, avoid this place.

Popped in Saturday lunchtime to buy some scones and pastries. According to my till receipt, was served by William. There was a sign stating cash free- which was absolutely fine. Unfortunately when I needed to make payment, they refused to let me know how much the Contactless machine was asking for. The machine is kept above eye level and the person serving me was very rude when I asked if I could see the amount. I am currently researching if this is against the contactless payment rules. Although I did receive a receipt, I still like to check the amount prior to payment. Surely that is an acceptable request? The attitude if this member of staff spoiled the enjoyment of my purchases and tainted my visit to Southwold.

Went in mid Sunday morning, food was displayed well and looked nice. There were 4 or 5 orders in front of mine but this seemed to cause major confusion. When we finally got latte coffees with our food all was pretty much cold. The tables out the back had not been wiped down, covered in dew. My wife used the facilities which were disgusting. Do yourself a favour and walk past, they want to charge top money for poor service.

Beautiful traditional cornish pasties best we have ever had. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting.

Rather disappointed, the food was no better than average, had a traditional pasty and a spinach ommelet croissant, was OK but nothing special slightly better than a Greg's to be honest definitely not a treat. The most disappointing aspect of our visit was the toilets , wouldn't have eaten in there if I had seen them first, it's not a case of a regular clean being missed it's a long term problem , they need a deep clean and redecorating to get them into an acceptable condition.

.Second visit here whilst on holiday (2021, 2023) Reliable outlet for pasties and some nice looking cakes. The pasties are perhaps "better" than a supermarket type, having tasty chunks of meat, but they do also have a lot of thick rolled crust, such that the part you want to eat is smaller than it looks from the outside

Looked nice from the outside. Pasty was expensive but the meat was nice. Coffee overpriced for size and not that great. If I had seen the toilet first, I wouldn’t have eaten here. Wonder what the kitchen looked like, if they feel that the state of the toilet is acceptable for their paying customers to use. Thick with gross grime and dirt. Old broken toilet seat. Handy thing was though, that you could put your head in the sink and dry your hair with the drier whilst sitting on the loo!! Barely room for your knees and I’m not a big person. Very tight to not hire someone to give that filthy loo a good clean. Yuk.

Now I like a Cornish pasty and love coffee. I’ve had many of both. My wife and I ordered a large Cornish for me a Steak and Stilton and two coffees. My Cornish had two small chunks of meat in the who thing and my wife’s said hers was just ok. Neither were hot and came out for the heated area and well the coffees were bitter and horrid. I love bean to cup and I really don’t think you’ve stored the beans correctly. £16.95 for these four items also wasn’t great. I will definitely avoid this brand in future and would recommend all to walk past.

Lovely visit. Stopped in on a day trip into Southwold. Staff were really friendly and fast service. My friend had coffee and I had earl grey tea with oat milk. Warm and inviting inside, we sat in comfy chairs by the window. Would recommend.

The Cornish Bakery is consistently fantastic with the excellent pastries and the best coffee around. We were served by Lilly today who also has a special talent for latte art designs as well, very impressive. This is a very friendly cafe and bakery with great produce and great staff. Well done, I’ll be back!

Recently came in for a bite to eat at lunch and was served by a staff member called Will who advised me to try the spiced cauliflower and onion bhaji pasty. It was utterly delicious and nice to see a good variety of vegetarian options. Service was really nice and friendly and I will definitely be returning.

Popped in for a light lunch with my daughter and two children. Lunch was nice. Had to use the toilets and they were disgusting. No hand soap and air dryer didn’t work. Dust and grime was so thick . Didn’t look like it ever been cleaned. Not good especially when you take a small child to use the facilities.

We stopped for lunch. Good choice of veggie pasties. Hot and tasty food, nice staff. They only take card payments.

Used it early mornings to get a coffee and pastries for breakfast, all very good, recommend the Cherry/Almond & Raspberry croissants and the Pastel de Natat, coffee also very good.

We had two visits here during our stay in Southwold. The coffee was lovely and pasties and sausage rolls very tasty. Also excellent carrot cake. Toilets not clean on first visit, but better on second.

Friendly chap served us. Food a decent standard. Nice coffee. Prompt service. But…the toilets! A proper layer of dust and hairs covering the tiles and surfaces accompanied by an aroma of old urine. Urgh. It’s a small space and those tiles should be wiped down...

This little outlet on the corner of the High Street has the most friendly, helpful staff. Don't be put off by the somewhat inappropriate name as we once were! We call in quite regularly for takeout sausage rolls (excellent, very flaky pastry) and quality coffees...

Only take card payment. Yes even for a coffee which is just ridiculous. Lost our customer and won’t return until this stupid idea goes back to cash as well.

To be honest this place is dangerous. Went in for croissants and coffee and also came out with pasties, carrot cake, other pastries and a lighter bank balance. Everything was spot on, staff very friendly too.

The latte art was just phenomenal, a lot of effort put into each and every drink. The hot chocolate was perfect, the cream - delicious. And the sausage roll and cheese twist again - so fresh and out of this world. Nothing but positive words....

Glad we stumbled across this little bakery, as it had a great range of pasties, some with a more unusual combination of ingredients. The bacon, leek and cheese pasty was probably one of the tastiest pasties I've ever had! Lovely young chap behind the counter...

My cheese and onion pasty was delicious. My partner’s traditional Cornish pasty would have received 5 stars apart from the multiple pieces of bone in the filling, yuk.
