We went here a couple of nights ago for our evening meal,I ordered the surf and turf £15.99 from the specials board and my wife decided to have the haggis fritter starter £6.95 with a side portion of chip which I can only assume was £4.91 considering our food total was £27.85. We had our food in the bar area owing to the fact we have a dog. Prior to ordering our food we ordered a pint of lager and a pint half lager half lemonade £8. We were served by friendly staff can’t really complain about the food as it was tasty enough. Have been here previously but might go somewhere different in the future.

Great little inn with delicious pub food, delicately prepared and served. The scampi was sweet, tender, perfect. The haggis pakora was a gem. The young waiter was friendly and attentive. I liked it here - a nice stop after the Rough Hill Fort.

Delicious food, great prices. Friendly atmosphere 👍 We ate outside in the beer garden. Only criticism was that tables were dirty and were not being cleaned between customers. Disappointing! Otherwise this would be 5 stars.

Dropped into this pub for a quick beer on a Sunday afternoon. Busy bar with a mixed crowd and a juke box blaring away. Lounge/ restaurant was closed for some reason and maybe that’s why no crisps were left.Usual limited selection of common beers and spirits but not as good as other local bars. Nice pint though.

After long cycle, we were really looking forward to a nice wee meal. We certainly weren’t expecting anything special. We were greeted and made to feel welcome by lovely staff, although they seemed to be doing a million other things as well. We had fish, steak pie and a burger. The food was extremely bland, the only exception being the burnt burger and sour milk taste from the chips. The burger was sent back and replaced by fish which was very bland and greasy. The steak pie had no taste to it at all. Both meals didn’t seem to digest even a few hours afterwards. Sorry, but we rapidly came to the conclusion that anyone saying this food is good would really love hospital food. Very disappointed.

My husband and I were staying nearby at Castlecary Hotel and used TripAdvisor to find a nearby eating place - The Cornhill Inn had good reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. When we walked in there was only one other table with customers so we had the pick of where to sit. The decor was very attractive, good lighting and the table settings done very nicely. The young girl serving and taking orders was very friendly and personable. We ordered from the menu for 2 meals for £11.95 which we thought was outstanding value. I had battered haddock and chips, my husband had the steak pie and chips. We also ordered a starter of deep fried breaded mushrooms with goats cheese to share. The food arrived promptly, was attractively presented and tasted delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place and would be very happy to return if we ever find ourselves in the area again.

We have now been to the Cornhill several times over the last 2 years; and continue to enjoy the experience. Whether we pre-book or just arrive on spec, the food has been continually good, with an extensive menu (including a very varied Chinese New Year option last week). The interior has been refurbished and is very warm and welcoming, the staff are friendly and efficient and it is easy to get parked just outside or near the entrance. 10 out of 10 to the Kitchen and Bar staff, it is so nice to get a friendly welcome these days and to feel you have had value for your money.

After hearing about here from various souces I went last night for a family meal celebrating a birthday. Myself and my mum arrived first of which we got a half hearted welcome and seemed seemed as if we had not booked the table, we were told oh just take that table. The time it took to be served with drinks and order took was way to long. Possibly 5 tables in at any time of which all the rest were 2 , 3 or 4 people but the two members of staff seemed extremely pressured as if new to the role. A special offered was roast/bakef ham dinner of which three of the party opted for. The birthday girls meal did not arrive until all of us had been eating for 5-10 mins. ( it was the ham special). After complaining my aunty was offered a drink but she already had one so asked for pudding instead which was honured. The ham dinners all looked very poorly presented. Ham very fatty and the gravy like dishwater. At no point during the meal did anyone approach to ask if everything was fine. Yes the three people could have complained but after all the waiting and time getting on it was decided not to. Coffee order was also wrong. The noise from the bar next door was also very intrusive into the eating area. It is immaculate inside and looks lovely but the whole service really lets it down.

Me and my partner live in Cumbernauld and we felt we had exhausted all the local establishments so we decided to go a little further afield. This place has obviously been given a huge revamp and the decor is of very good taste.First thing I noticed was the staff who were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. The girl was so welcoming and efficient and she is a keeper for this place. The menu is great and a bit different to most places.I had Haggis to start which was OK, not fantastic. It was a bit too much for a starter, quite heavy and a bit greasy. I ordered the steak pie which was great but could have fed 2 people. My partner had the mackerel and she enjoyed it.The dessert was also lovely.TIPS FOR MANAGEMENT1. Keep the lovely staff2. Either cut down your portion sizes or put up your prices as you should3. Most places are charging £11 for a bottle of wine when all your competitors are charging at least £16.OVERALLGreat little find, fantastic staff, great value for money and good pub grub but could be even better with a few little tweaks. This is a local restaurant for us, which has passed through a number of hands in recent years and not always with great effect. However having dined here 3 times in recent weeks I sincerely hope that the new owner and Chef Rob gets the support he richly deserves. The setting, the food and the service are excellent and at £8.95 for two courses, it's unbeatable value. Besides the set menu, there is an ever changing daily " specials" menu where for a modest extra charge you can indulge yourself with innovative food that suits most palates. This chef knows his stuff, we were a party of twelve and not one person had even a glimmer of complaint. As I said at the start I hope that Rob gets the praise and the custom he richly deserves.

Stopped in to our local restaurant during a monsoon to be presently impressed with the selection and quality of the specials on board. The seared sea bream with a warm tomato and cucumber salad was truly phenomenal in the opinion of my wife who is fond of seafood haunts such as the krabshak and orocco pier.Whilst I had a mixed grill which I was very glad to see that all elements were cooked to perfection and none were dry as they can so often be when cooked out of order. As ever the service was fast and friendly and the unique Sam smith organic beer washed dinner down a treat. As ever I am surprised that this place is not busier given it's value for money and quality. By pass the take away and have a nice dinner in a nice location.Main suggestion keep up the variation on the specials highlighting fresh produce

My husband and I have been to The Cornhill Inn a few times before and thought it was nice enough but tonight was awful. My husband had leek and potato soup to start which was tasteless and required a lot of salt and pepper. I had the haggis bon bons which were ok.When the main courses came out straight away I was disappointed with what I saw. I had ordered the spinach and mushroom lasagne with garlic bread. The garlic bread was burnt black. If I'd been the chef or waitress I would have been embarrassed to serve it. The lasagne sheets were under cooked so quite rubbery. I only managed to eat a third of it. My husband had honey roast ham which was really salty. I did tell the waitress that I didn't like my dinner and wouldn't pay. I was also offered a free dessert which I didn't take.Over all I was let down with the food and also the 1 waitress we had.

We have had a good few acceptable meals in The Cornhill over the years. My son eats there regularly. On our last visit we were impressed by the quality and size of portions so booked a table of 9 for a family meal. This is an account of our evening. My husband and I arrived first. No staff in attendance. We stood at the entrance to the restaurant unsure whether to wait or sit, observed by the couples at the 2 occupied tables. We were eventually greeted by a young girl with attitude " Oh you are the booking for 9", with utter disinterest and a haughty look. We were shown to our table by a rather harassed gentleman, who will be described as 'no problem at all' for the purposes of the review since that seemed to be his catch phrase.Despite the fact we were the only 2 to have arrived, we had a menu plonked in front of us by another member of staff (not Miss Haughty or Mr No Problem At All) Miss Haughty returned to ask if we would like drinks. We did. I asked for a pear Kopparberg cider. They had none. I followed her to the bar to make my alternative choice to be asked by ANOTHER member of staff ' Can I help you at all?' in a voice dripping with sarcasm and yet more attitude. My family arrived 5 minutes apart. Because we didn't arrive together, 4 people had chosen their meal but the last to arrive felt harassed to order, having just sat down.My son (the one that eats there) said he didn't recognise any of the staff and that the menu had changed. Starters consisted of 6 deep fried items and soup. The deep fried stuff you can buy at the local cash & carry.Mains consisted of the usual bar type food. Steak pie, fish and chips etcOn our last visit my son had haddock and chips. The fish we christened Moby Dick because it was huge.3 of our party decided to have thisWhat a major disappointment! The fish and chips arrived in a cheesy mini deep fry wire basket with chips on the bottom and half a fish fillet cut into 2 on the top. Accompanied by an even cheesier black plastic pail containing mushy peas. Table space being limited and the wire basket proving difficult to cut food in, we felt our table cramped and cluttered. My 3 year old Grandson had asked for cheese sandwich and chips and was presented with macaroni and chips. We had to ask for the pepper sauce which should have accompanied the 2 rump steaks (Mr No Problem At All obliged) In any case the sauce tasted like gravy with very little pepper apparent. Our glasses were empty for quite some time before anyone bothered to ask if we would like a refill. We asked for a bottle of wine and a pint of lager. The lager never appeared so we had to ask Mr No Problem At All for that. Most of us had the white chocolate cheesecake. Highly recommended.By now, the restaurant had approximately 6 tables occupied. We waited 15 minutes for the billMy husband went to the bar to pay by debit card and was informed the machine had broken that afternoon and he would have to pay by cashWe were not informed by any staff member prior to eating that this was the case and when informing the staff of this were met by more attitude and sarcasm en masse.I had to go to the cash machine in the village to pay the bill as did other diners that nightOn leaving, Miss Haughty (who I believe is the current owners daughter) pored a dollop more sarcasm by shouting (to our backs) thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed your meal and do call again. The meal with drinks cost £106If you like bog standard food with limited drink choice and masses of attitude with your food, this is the place for you.It wasn't to my taste

These guys are better than what they think they are.......if you know what I mean!Nice surroundings with a privately run Inn that was completely refurbished when they took over a couple of years ago. I would actually say that this place is much better than the local Coachman in Kilsyth or even the Boathouse.Limited menu but it is really good and value for money although they need to shout out louder as their marketing lets them down! For the time being enjoy the best kept secret in the Central Belt of the country.

My husband and I frequent here about once a month. Mainly because it is handy to where we live and they do a set menu on a Friday night. The food has always been really nice and superb value for money. I would say portions are good and the quality is as good as you would expect. I can't manage 3 courses. We've had burgers, steak, haddock, steak pie, chicken pie, pasta. All were good. There has only ever been one waitress when we are in, so once she was quite overwhelmed when it got busy and we waited a wee while to order, starters cleared etc but we don't mind too much. The coffee is very nice. And they don't mind you going in just for soup and coffee. Drinks are also reasonable. I would say it does pub food very well. It is what it is - if you know what I mean! Xx

Dropped in for lunch with my american pool chum and a catch up. We looked over the menu and both opted for toasties both cheese and onion with coleslaw on the side. We were not disappointed they were loaded with cheese and the coleslaw had a lovely homemade flavour. We had cans of juice to wash down our food perfectly chilled. Overall total satisfaction and would recommend to anyone. Will definetely be back soon. 10/10.

Only heard about the new cafe that has opened in boness. We visited yesterday and had coffee and a delicious chocolate square, very impressed by the surroundings and the staff, we hope to return and try the lunch menu

While we waited for a train at Grahamston station, my wife went in search of coffee, She returned a short time later with a mint tea, a coffee and couple of breakfast rolls, they were hot and delicious, obviously just made with fresh ingredients. The cafe proprietor accompanied my wife as she had too much to carry comfortably. What a gem of a find. You won't be disappointed.
