The Copper Smoke House in Waveney

This was our first trip to this restaurant after another family member had recommended it. I have to say it was a great experience and did not disappoint. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the owners knowledge regarding the food and the drinks was amazing, it was very clear that she was very passionate about the dishes they serve and the effort they put in to ensure a great experience for their customers. Will definitely be returning soon.

When we visit the area it’s always a “must” to eat here. The cocktails are mixed to perfection and the food is plentiful and tastes amazing. The sauces are very tasty but the beans, wait till you taste them. Bravo chef. We have never had a pudding (maybe next visit) as we are always full by then. The staff are very attentive and like to share a story, very welcoming. Dog friendly too. Brian’s (the dog) a great place to visit a nice comfy floor to lay on. When I get to try the food it’s wonderful, then I get given dog biscuits by staff. It’s great I get more attention than my walkers, and I don’t pay. Today we returned to the smokehouse for a Sunday lunch. We last visited over 2 years ago with our then 9 month old. This place is honestly amazing and exactly how we remembered it! The staff are amazing, helpful and chatty! And the food will blow you away. I had the beef brisket roast which gets served with a wide range of vegetables. They also have a good selection of children’s meals! Thank you so much guys! We can’t wait to make this a yearly thing going forward!

As a family, we usually frequent Iconic and the smokehouse in Ormesby however fancied a change and given we were celebrating a promotion, decided to try the Copperhouse. Really can’t fault the waiting staff, location or the decor - toilets were also absolutely spotless. This place had the potential to be a really good evening however the food did let it down and given the cost, I expected this to be better. The garlic & cheese bread starter had minimal cheese on it and the bread itself was very greasy. The burger was hard and overcooked for one person in our party. Another family member had chicken and rib combo.. these were also overcooked and very dry. Food in general was very salty; I appreciate food needs to be seasoned but perhaps less salt given we all know that this is bad for us. There was even salt added to the coleslaw which was unnecessary. If paying in excess of £20 for a meal you would expect far better taste. In terms of alcohol; I would expect city restaurants to hike up their wine bottles by up to three times however perhaps not Lowestoft.. the same bottle of wine I could have purchased for £9 as opposed to your £23. We had planned to stay the evening however were very disappointed and after negotiating a 15% discount (which didn’t even cover one meal) we promptly left. Overall, a disappointing and expensive visit when compared to our restaurants in the vicinity and one we will avoid in future.

Shocking food for that amount of price.. food was dry and came out nothing like described! only nice bit was the chips. Everything was as dry and so salty, tasted horrible. 4 people came to 150£! And only worth about 20£ of that.

This is the third time my husband and I have visited this restaurant and its a coeliacs dream come true. Its the only place I feel safe eating at. Very knowledgeable with food intolerance. The food is excellent. Extremely delicious in my opinion. The portion size is amazing, I end up with a doggy bag everytime. The desserts look fantastic but i never have enough room left.The staff are welcoming and I can't wait to go back. Would recommend to everyone.

Decided to try the Copper Smoke House for a weekend Lunch, chose the Sharing Platter for two and it didn't disappoint. The ribs, bacon loin and chicken wings were to die for and the accompanying sides were great too (especially the BBQ pit beans). Paula and Charlotte were both very personable and chatty and enhanced the experience. Will definitely return.

Another delicious meal here, they never fail to deliver great food. This time I had the smoked chicken with buffalo sauce and a delicious lemon posset for pud. Look forward to the next time 👍

We were staying in Lowestoft for the weekend and went to this spot on a whim. We both left absolutely blown away... To start we had crispy fried halloumi and King prawns. The king prawns in Verde were perfectly cooked and the Verde was refreshing, however the halloumi was perfect. It was crispy and crunchy without losing the halloumi texture...scrummy... For main we had the sharing platter with a side of onion rings (this was a mistake). Before ours came out we saw another table being served the same dish and we were in disbelief. To say it didn't fit on the table isn't an exaggeration. It was the most meat either of us had seen. Despite being overwhelmingly full, it all tasted so amazing we just couldn't stop (with some friendly teasing from our waitresses.) The banana bread and rum raisin ice cream capped it off. Despite the incredible food, atmosphere and decor, the best thing about this restaurant is the staff. We were one of the last tables in the place and we were never made to feel unwelcome. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy working there which makes being served by them a delight. The owner came to speak to us and left us feeling as though we were treated us like we were friends. Both of us agreed it was the best restaurant experience we'd had in years and despite living over 100 miles away, we will almost certainly be returning. Thank you for such a brilliant experience.

A family meal with my lovely family for my birthday 🎂 travelled from Lincoln to this super restaurant. Gorgeous... couldn't be bettered Will definitely visit again .Thank you for adding to my birthday celebrations.

This place is a favourite of ours, been coming here weekly for six months and tonight is our 33rd visit to this gem. The food is always incredible, the owners are brilliant people, the head chef (Mike) cooks the best meats around, Paula and her people skills and memory is a thing of brilliance. The staff are lovely and welcoming. If I had to choose a recommendation food wise, I’d say the Platter for 2 (but make sure you’re hungry) The short rib is without doubt the best rib I’ve ever eaten. I see myself old and grey still eating here. If you’re in the area, get yourself down to The Copper Smoke House.

The smokehouse ribs were absolutely lovely the beer is fantastic but the owner is a bit of a dragon but overall top banana 🍌 as long as you toe the line!

Having had the sharing platter, I feel able to discuss all of the meat. I love ribs, and honestly, they were my least favourite part of the plate. That is not to say that they weren't good. They were... but. My partner is not a fan of salty things and loved the bacon, and I'm not normally a fan of beef, but the brisket was probably my favourite part. Strangly, however, the pit beans were a huge win. I had to ask about pit beans and the explanation gave me a great story about pit beans (it's the meat juices that makes them so good) and also showed how much the people that run the Smokehouse care about providing high quality food that they prepare themselves.

Always hilarious to be told about the two bottles on the table. Monk fish was like rubber or maybe marshmallow. Unsure. Maybe it wasn’t cooked or maybe overcooked, anyway it was weird and not like Barnby Swan monkfish which is incredible. Floor was swept around us while eating, staff eat at tables around dinner guests, chairs are stacked on tables while eating and before dinner guests leave. No class, everything on menu is coated in something. I would much prefer to eat in the dinner hall at a primary school.

Food was absolutely gorgeous, ideally you need a spare stomach, very clean and staff were very attentive. Nothing was to much trouble, sadly i had eaten before i realised i had taken no photos. . . . Are you curious about electric vehicles. If so why not join the largest EV community. UKEVOC co uk

First time dining here and everything was spot on. Service was friendly, the cleaning of tables was extremely thorough and made me feel very reassured that this was a clean place to eat. Burgers were very flavoursome and good quality, well worth the price. Will definitely be coming back here!

My wife and I always come here when we get the time! I had the pork belly this time which was absolutely amazing. I Would recommend this place to anyone.

We had a bracing walk along the beach and thought we’d go back to one of my old haunts Oulton Broad. Found the smoke house let dogs in at the rear of the restaurant so In we went. Great food great service and all round great place! Absolutely loved our meals drinks and the very friendly atmosphere given we were in there on New Years Eve it was busy but food arrived very quickly as did the drinks! What a great experience all in! I'll start with the good bit, I had the toffee apple crumble for desert and it was delicious. My main issue with this restaurant is their cancellation policy and lack of remorse surrounding it. I will agree that the terms and conditions are on their website below the link you click to book but depending on what device/browser you use the terms and conditions don't show up in the first page meaning you would have to scroll past the booking link to read the terms and conditions which I wager very few people do. I suffer periodically with migraines and I never know when one will happen, on the morning of my booking I woke up with a bad sickness inducing migraine so my wife cancelled the table as early as possible but still breached their 24 hour notice policy, so my wife was charged £40. We rang up to explain that it was due to an unpredictable medical reason but were sniggered at by the manager who just said it was policy so the charge would stay. We asked if we kept the table could we put the £40 towards our bill which the manager agreed to. The young service staff were really polite and friendly, the food came out barely warm, but knowing how a complaint is dealt with I couldn't be bothered to say anything, there was plenty of food but it's quality does not match that of nearby restaurants that serve similar food at a cheaper price. I would never go back to this restaurant and I certainly would not recommend it based on how we were treated. I understand the frustration they could have from a no show but £20 per person is extortionate in my opinion as we had tried to cancel 4-5 hours in advance especially since there was a lot of empty tables in the restaurant. I've double checked the law on booking and a penalty can can only be charged if a loss is incurred and we should have been given the option to rebook the table for a different date, which we were not. If you are going to book I recommend you book on your credit card so The Copper Smokehouse would have to fight your credit card company for the money if they try and charge you an unfair cancellation fee.

The roast dinner was amazing as always, gorgeous, hot, such good portions, yummy :) will go back soon, staff were lovley, helpful, personable, service so good:)

The best Sunday roast around and lovely friendly service

This is another local restaurant of my partner and i, and was on our bucket list to try. I got the menu online, and we couldn't decide what to have and kept changing our minds. We were the first ones in and had a lovely warm welcome. Now I'm a burger man myself, but I decided on their rack of ribs with all the trimmings. They were gorgeous. The chips were very tasty, better than chippy chips!! Portion size was generous. The staff were awesome, and there was plenty of banter between us, which made me feel at ease, as going to a new place can cause my anxiety to be high.

Had the stake and oxtail pie, it was a masterpiece of good homemade food would definitely come back again

A married couple staying in Lowestoft for a couple of nights, The Copper Smokehouse seemed to come well-recommended. It was JUST within walking distance of where we were staying, so we tried it. It's a good job we booked a couple of days in advance; the best slot we could get was 18.30, luckily this suited us just fine. Paula was running front of house, ably supported by Annabel. Together the two ladies dealt with our drinks and food orders perfectly. The food was impeccable; beautifully cooked and presented brisket and burger for mains following a shared fish starter. Your reviewer was quite full by this point so we cannot comment on any pudding courses. Paula has an amazing way with customers; she remembers everyone, and engages them all as they arrive. Soon, we were old friends too; I'm sure she'd remember we were from Kettering the next time we visit for example. Three tradesmen were on an adjacent table, they had travelled here for work and food from Huntingdan. Paula knew they're story inside out/names etc. Her people skills are second-to-none. The bill wasn't a shock, and Paula helped us with a taxi firms number. Go here for the very best smoke/grill cuisine backed up by unmatched customer service.

What an awful experience from the demand for credit card details to hold the booking (6pm Sat Nigh!) to the insistence on seating us on the worst table in the so called back room. A joyless tour deforce in perocial dining. Misery abounds in this establishment from the limp shrimps dripping in oil and devoid of any sweetness to the over encumbered pork belly - 2 servings of butter bean ragout, presumably because it was hard to sell! Expectations of smoky bbq were soon dismissed in favour of the cameo from the eco lab rep insisting on cleaning everything insight in the sound knowledge of mass financial gain from selling its products. Tables lights for what purpose? Other than to remind you your supposed to be having an intimate enjoyable meal, all while sitting under 200 watt lighting. This was undoubtedly the worse dining experience Suffolk has to offer and it has some fabulous restaurants that don’t have to shout it from the rooftops! I should of turned around when walking up I noticed they were unaware we were having a utility bill crisis - not sure who provides their electric but can I have their details - Blackpool is more sedate! Don’t go it’s rubbish.

Ribs were chewy and doesnt fall off the bone, sausages are basically bangers and nothing special-one side black and the otherside not. Salt and pepper wings still had feathers on them, pretty much had no flavour. Bbq sauce tastes like shop bought. Pork loin is basically thick cut bacon lol. Not very authentic,looks like there is not much love in they bbq and are jsut trying to make a quick buck. I do not reccomend trying the sharing platter at all. Bit of a let down as the rest was ok.

DO NOT BOOK HERE! I made a booking in the morning and 3 hours later due to unforseen circumstances I had to cancel, upon booking they ask for a reservation card which is fine as its state you are charged 0.00, they have then tried to take £70 from my card in 3 separate transactions, I called up and spoke to "the owner" who was so rude beyond belief whom told me in the small terms and conditions it states that if you do not give 24 hours notice they will charge you £20 per person, when I asked how I could give 24hours notice when the booking was for the same day she did not have an answer and agreed I couldn't give 24hours notice as the booking was the same day! Thank god my bank flagged this as fraudulent activity and declined all payments! Safe to say I shall never eat here Updated: to response from 'owner' my card was charged THREE times not the two you just lied about, my bank declined it automatically flagging it as fraudulent! I would suggest you re-evaluate your terms when people are booking as UNLESS I was to go onto your terms it's clearly states when placing a reservation it's a 0.00 charge! If this company is in that desperate need of money that you have to charge people when they cancel a book who CANNOT possibly give 24hours notice as it was booked the SAME DAY! Good luck because with a business and attitude like that it will be clearly needed! My suggestion is to book somewhere else that doesn't show this kind of behaviour!

Just had our second visit of the weeks holiday, and it was just like the first absolutely lovely food, deliciously prepared and plenty to fill the biggest of appetites, really nice staff from the young lad who told us to go to Norwich shopping and the really nice young lass who persuaded us to have desert. I went to the copper smokehouse Sunday with my girlfriend for the first time and definitely won’t be the last. Cannot rate it enough! The food was incredible and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Paula was amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks menu. She even recommended a few places to go after as this was our first time out in the area. Smoked turkey and the smoked gravy were the star of the show! Very generous portions, we had to pack it up and finished the rest later on. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience and we will definitely see you again soon!

Huge selection of Gluten free food on the menu. I had the catch of the day served with a good selection of vegetables, all perfectly cooked, followed by the crème brûlée with shortbread biscuits ( all GF) which was simply delicious. There was 7 of us in our Saturday evening group booking, everyone enjoyed their meal, very good size portions. Would recommend for very good Gluten free food. We will definitely be returning.

Don't rely on take away service. I tried to use this service. Apparently available from 1800 hrs. I tried to place an order at 1810 hrs. To be told they were to busy to accommodate me. If they just knock this off at such short notice I won't bother in future and would advise anyone else not to rely on them either. A very poor customer service.

Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough! We came for Sunday lunch which was amazing! Incredible food, massive portions and great value at £23 for two courses. The staff were all lovely to us. We brought our dog with us, and they were beyond dog friendly - providing us with water, a blanket and treats. Our only “complaint” is that there was so much delicious food that we were too full to try dessert, but we’ll definitely be back to try that another day!

Booked at the last minute, not a big place but most of the tables were free very well clean, ordered starters big portion and very tasty, ordered fish platter for main and asked if they are fried or what way the fish is cooked, the nice young lady said she is not sure, then went and asked someone else and come back to say fish platter was a 90% cold fish, and i obviously didn't know that before i ordered coz it wasn't described in the menu, i asked her nicely if i could swap my request and they did, CREDIT to when is needed, ordered drinks nice and tasty, instead of the cold fish platter i ordered brisket and half chicken DISSAPOINTED i wish i was stuck to the cold fish, but because im a brisket police i notice that the brisket had no flavour on smoke or sauce, when cooked but was covered in the chosen sauce just to make it taste of something, it wasn't really cooked to the brisket standards, chicken was bland and average again covered in sauce because i am sooooo outgoing i know my food, so if you sell £21 plate of something ive ate before and not done to what i know it should be them im UNSATISFIED. Sides were all delicious and big portions. Credit to the young girl, she was doing everything while her colleague/boss was chatting about her life with some random customers (I'm still happy with this bit) Overall not good feelings about this experience, not sure I wanna spend £68 for 2 courses x2 ppl for main course to be bland, ill go Chip shop next time pay £20 and have a nicely cooked fish HOT. Disappointing, after reading these alleged positive reviews, we decided to book a table for 5 for dinner 18.30hrs,bizarrely although booking was not a problem we was advised that we had to put down a holding deposit for £20 per person in case we cancelled??, In all the restaurants that I’ve booked around the world I have never been asked for this before, we arrived on time and we were greeted and seated, the specials were pointed out all the usual stuff you would expect to hear, two of my family had the salmon special of the day, my daughter had a smokehouse burger, my son-in-law had the brisket and I had the maple bacon, chicken burger, the food did take around half an hour to arrive at our table, which is okay, I suppose, however, my meal was somewhat disappointing as the maple bacon had no flavour at all. There was no cheese that we should’ve come with the burger and the chicken was dry so much so I left most of it, I’ve had to leave this disappointing review because even when it came to paying for our meal, we was not asked the usual questions like was everything okay? I am not delusional just expected better, as for the £20 per head deposit, the only explanation that I was given was that most restaurants do this now, which is a complete and utter lie, judging by the other restaurant outlets in and around where you are, which are very poor with regards to standard of food. I’m not surprised your just stands restaurant as ok ish, as for the service, the main waitress was more interested about talking about herself rather than your mediocre food, I can guarantee this time in 12 months you will no longer be operating as a cafe as your not a restaurant, it’s clear from your reply you don’t not have what it takes as a restauranteur, unless of course you pull that delusional head out of your backside, which seems too late imo.

Arrived for lunch. We had not booked, but they fitted us in. We ordered drinks but that was it. We waited half an hour but no one came to take our order so we paid and left. Looked quite expensive but we never got to taste anything. It was then too late to go anywhere else. Disappointing.

Went yesterday as a walk in about 5pm. Very lucky to get in as clearly fully booked later. The best brisket I've had. The sides of beans, slaw and fries were all lovely. I can eat a lot but it pushed me to my limits. Took my 12 yo. Grandson who had the adult chicken burger with pulled chicken on top. His verdict was "awesome" but there was no way he was going to be able to eat it all. Friendly welcoming staff and a lovely smart restaurant. Loved it.
