This restaurant is a dream! Delicious flavours, delightful vibe and worth a visit if you are in town.

Authentic Indian cuisine wonderful

Such a warm and welcoming place to enjoy a Sunday lunch with a twist. We had our 1 year old baby with us and the staff were so attentive and inclusive of her, which we really appreciated. The food is outstanding and beautifully presented. My mother in law couldn't manage all of her meal and so the team boxed it up for her to take home. Thank you so very much for making a family meal with a baby, so enjoyable.

Wonderful atmosphere inc. a pianist; Indian fine dining with a personal touch; unique amuse bouches/palate cleanses; Ashar is incredibly friendly; we will return for dessert when we have room!!

The service was excellent and the food interesting and delicious. We've eaten here a few times and the food has been top every time. Do enjoy the amuse-bouche between each course as a nice touch.

Travelled from Margate to visit this place as the about section said Halal food. But they don't serve Halal food and the waiter confirmed. Pork is served as well. And no halal certification. Please update your business listing. There is no such thing as halal food sometimes. Otherwise nothing against the establishment. Putting it here just for the benefit of others seeking halal food. Happy to remove once the business listing is updated.

Amazing food if your looking for something different. The Indian fusion menu gives u lots of choice and is really well presented. The staff are friendly and happily to explain the different courses.

Highly recommend. They went out of their way to make us feel really looked after. There was also live music which was lovely. The food was incredible. Would definitely return next time we are in Canterbury!

The food was excellent, with lots of flavour and no duds across the extensive vegetarian thali (pictured), which I recommend! We arrived mid-evening on a busy summer Saturday without reservation but staff managed to accommodate us. Service was a little slow due to being very busy but we were mostly looked after with several complimentary tasting courses. Would definitely go back here

This was an excellent venue for a long, lazy birthday lunch. The dishes surprised us with their subtle flavours. The amuse-bouche extras were a nice touch. The service from our waiter Ashar was a perfect combination of respectful and attentive and informative. Thank you.

Hidden gem in Canterbury! 5 mins walk from the cathedral. Customer service from sakshi was personable and friendly. We ordered and enjoyed vegetarian thali thoroughly. Fewer options for vegetarians but tasty food.

Very bad experience . The waiter working during 1-2 pm was behaving so rude. Very much disappointed .

Wow, what an amazing experience. Came here for our 23rd anniversary meal, and went for the 12 course tasting menus with matched wines. After the first couple of courses I was a little worried that we would not be full by the end, but by the end of the tenth course we were both struggling to take another bite. Had the food not been so good, we may have given up, but it was amazing and we persevered, and now we are both uncomfortably full but so happy with what we have eaten. The service was impeccable, you rarely get it so good in this country. The food was rich, delicious and wholesome, and varied enough to keep the most eclectic palate happy. The wines were incredibly well paired, and each one delicious in their own right, but elevated to another level with the paired food. It is a little off the beaten track, but worth going out of your way to find. No regrets at all with choosing this marvellous restaurant, we will be singing praises to our friends and family and would heartily recommend to anyone.

The Cook's Tale was recommended by the establishment we stayed in, and it didn't dissapoint. The food was impeccable and the service was second to none. It was an incredible evening and if we visited Canterbury again, we'd be sure to visit.

Came back to the cooks tale again for Sunday Roaat today. Had roast pork which was excellent and a coconut flower beer ( low alcohol) which whilst expensive was very enjoyable. As ever, excellent food and service

By far our favourite place to eat in Canterbury. The food is incredible, the service is friendly, prompt and helpful. We have also been to one of their cookery courses which was spectacular- I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly.

So after our last 8 course tasting menu…we booked (another special offer) for the 12 course tasting menu…..it was amazing!!! Did not have the paired wine as knew after last time we could not fit it in!!! Food was fantastic but mostly the service makes it….they brought one of the dishes over but my husband had gone upstairs to wash his hands so they delayed bringing the food over until he was seated again and this is because for each course you get an explanation of exactly what you are eating and how to eat it!! Everything was tasty and just the right portion for each course….but left feeling extremely full! Today they were a little slower with the drink orders and we had to cancel my husband’s beer order that was ordered half way through the meal but as we were heading towards the dessert course he understandably didn’t want a beer with pudding! However the restaurant was busy. Apart from that …brilliant attentive service, almost an educational experience learning where the food comes from and the stories behind it. We will be back again for another tasting menu!!! Highly recommend the Cooks Tale (and I’m fussy!! )

Chef Biswal has done it again the 12 course Odisha menu was excellent. Took a while to get our food as it appeared everyone arrived at 7!! including people booked for later, but the staff handled it and we were not in a rush. all the staff were awesome, shout out to the floor manager who kept it all together !

Outstanding food, and perfect service. All the flavours were so well balanced and real consideration had been put into the whole menu and dining experience. They also did a lovely extra touch for our anniversary.

What a fantastic restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff, brilliant live music, and the most delicious bottomless thali. We had a baby with us and felt very welcomed. All members of staff repeatedly asked us if we wanted more top-ups on the bottomless food which was very good. Definitely will come back, highly recommended to anyone who wants a special meal in a stylish but relaxed setting.

Second time here, both times having the seasonal taster menu. Absolutely wonderful. We don't live locally but it's good enough here that we booked an overnight trip to visit.

Recently dined at The Cook's Tale and had a great experience. The veg thali was a delightful array of authentic flavors, each dish meticulously prepared. Masala dosa & cutlets were pretty good. Sakshi, was humble and attentive, making our meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for delicious food and excellent service.

Wonderful night celebrating my partners birthday. 12 course (ended up being 15) tasting menu with generous measures of paired wines. Hosted and served by Head chef himself, Dev, and his passionate team. Lovely atmosphere with well known songs played by an excellent pianist! The food was amazing, rich in flavors. There are plenty of options in tapas version which allows one to try several things. The best part was the services though, the waiter was helpful, diligently explaining the dishes, made food suggestions and also explained how to eat it and enrich the experience. They offered us some courtesies and overall they were really attentive to us. Loved this place!

Fabulous afternoon tea! The choice of sandwiches and sweets was really lovely. The chocolate samosa was great. Really generous portions and great service. We topped it off with some prosecco!

This was an absolutely wonderful meal and experience. The food was unlike anything I’ve had before, with so much flavour and beautiful presentation. The starters and pallet cleansers were a wonderful addition. The atmosphere is lovely, but most of all the staff were so hospitable. Ashar was our waiter and did a wonderful job - he recommended wonderful food and made sure we didn’t over order either, which was very much appreciated. He was very friendly and very easy to talk to as well. They also provided me with a lovely birthday dessert, completely unexpected! Really appreciated the wonderful food and service, and looking forward to coming back!
