The Comrie Fish and Chip Shop in Perth & Kinross

Felt the need to review after seeing the negative reviews on here, which didn’t reflect our experience. We visited on a Friday night. No wait to order, friendly service, food cooked to order. Fish was large and came with a bonus piece. I had scampi which was great. Hot, well cooked, freshly prepared.

We always enjoy the food and make sure to visit when we are in Comrie. Service with a smile and generous portions.

A very poor quality fish supper, a skinny fillet of fish in greasy batter. The chips were also greasy and lukewarm. At £11 I expect better quality than this. Do not recommend.

Having seen some very poor reviews of this shop, I was a little apprehensive about using it, but needs must. I was at the end of a long days motorcycling and although the shop was only a few miles from my campsite, I really didn't fancy cooking and just wanted something convenient. I was at the shop at 5.30pm on a Wednesday. When I walked in there was one customer already waiting, another just in front of me who had ordered by phone, then me. The girl who took my order was perfectly polite despite the local temperatures being 28 degrees and the additional heat of the fryers. She explained to an Englishman what a supper was and I placed my order for a Haddock Supper. The supper was ready promptly and in the meantime another customer had come in who had some specific dietary requirements which the staff were only too happy to accommodate. They also explained to the customer where he and his wife could find a seat in the shade to eat. By then my food was ready with just the right amount of salt and vinegar, I bought a drink and was offered a wooden fork as I said I was going to sit and eat it immediately. The fish was hot, tasty and extremely well cooked and the chips were both generous in their portion size and equally as tasty as the fish. I was very pleased I had given them a try. While I was eating the other customer came out with his food and talking to a couple of bikers who arrived while I was scoffing, they had travelled specifically to Comrie as they regarded the food to be so good. They weren't kept waiting long and after a five or so minutes chatting they rode off with their dinner. I will be more than happy to use the Comrie shop again next time I am in the area.

Miserable, unfriendly staff , average fish and chips would not return....... Made to wait outside on a busy Rd although nobody else was in the shop.

On holiday and popped in on Friday night. Large queue outside due to the fact you cannot enter the shop. The reason given for this is that it is healthier not to enter! You must wait to place your order through a hatch then you are directed to stand across the road to wait so you are not obstructing the pavement. Very bizarre. After a considerable wait we were shouted to collect our food. Drive back to our holiday home to discover my sons pizza was completely burnt and inedible. Would not recommend.

Absolutely worst chippy ever! Been a regular for years, but never again. Asked for single fish & one fish supper. Asked lady if it was haddock? She 'fudged' answer & said fish. I asked again if it was haddock & this time she replied 'yes it is'! Never!! Some 'kind' of tastless, grey looking 'white fish', but most definitely 100% not haddock. £14.00 for inedible 'muck'. Was it pollock, coley or what? Have had chat with owner in past regarding quality of fish used, where sourced etc & was always happy until this recent (and definitely last) visit. Would willingly pay more for 'real haddock'. We live in East Neuk in Fife & are used to very fresh, reliable fish. Yes ... haddock ... ! Don't waste your money on inferior rubbish served up in Comrie under the banner of 'haddock'. You've been warned! Avoid at all cost.

So abrupt rude and no customer service at all. Will never ever set foot in the shop again. #avoidat allcosts

What a disappointment tonight! For years any time we have come through Comrie around 5-6pm we have stopped for a chippy and have always had good service, cheery banter and a great fish supper. Tonight? Definitely not. We stopped and thought it was busy because of the people standing on the pavement. When I walked to the shop I found that this was because we could not get into the shop but were expected to order through a tiny hatch. WHY? There was no price list, only a small typed list of items with no indication of prices. We were expected to queue on a narrow pavement causing anyone coming along the pavement to step out on the road - on a busy, blind corner. Totally unacceptable and dangerous. I was 3rd in this queue but after waiting for more than 10 minutes to PLACE an order, never mind receive it, due to one woman who changed her mind half a dozen times, I gave up. I don't know if the place has changed hands, but whatever has happened this method is not working. We won't be stopping there again!

I don’t know if they had run out of fillets and so had sliced them in half to make them go further, or had taken delivery of the meanest fillets that week... but hands down worst fish supper I’ve had in 13 years of living in Scotland. Because the fillets were so thin, most of the fish (breadcrumbed) was tough as old boots, translucent and inedible. The edible part was at best 5mm thick! Had fish here last year and there were fine. It was really disappointing. Chips and tartar sauce were good though.

probably the best fish and chips I have ever had in Scotland worth driving there just for them. would highly recommend trying them

Visited this chippy while on holiday, we initially were hesitant after reading previous reviews but had a totally different experience, staff were great, the food was cooked while we waited, batter on the fish was light and delicious and the portions were very generous. An excellent meal.

Waited 30 minutes +, staff abrupt, asked for extra salt and vinegar on chips hardly any. Two pickle onions - extra small, almost ridiculous! Although the fish is good, I don’t like thick batter so this was amazing!

Food was lovely and everything freshly cooked. Woman serving was rude and not the person you want to take your order. Visited Sunday 25 July at 1800.

Dont waste your money and time waiting, the food is disgusting and the ginger headed fella is an arrogant ar#eho#e, been going to comrie for over 25 years now, take the half hour drive to crief if you want fish and chips and dont waste...

Lazy day at the Riverside cabins and we brought back fish and chips from Comrie chip, real chips and the battered fish just melted in your mouth. Get there early because the secrets out, there's always a queue forming when they open.

Well I didn’t think I asked for crispy chicken but this was absolutely disgusting and fish and chip not much better was really shocked after being told it was a fab chippy. Disappointed to say the least.

Ordered fish and chips to take back to our holiday home in St Fillans. Made to order and came with very good, home made tartar sauce. Massive portions too.

All staff are lovely but one man possibly the manager, mocks customers and make them feel uncomfortable and shouts at staff whilst people arein the shop. Complete havoc in that shop didn’t even order anything cause lack of common decency towards customers

Stayed local at caravan site and myself and husband both had fish and chips the best we have tasted.and lovely staff

The best fish and chips by far is from Comrie fish and chip shop. The little one on the corner. Always fresh, piping hot, nice n crispy and absolutely delicious!

Arriving at our accommodation late - this was a pleasant surprise in the village. The shop was clean and staff very welcoming. Lots of choice but we opted for the traditional fish and chips which were cooked fresh and very tasty. Lots of alternatives available...

Superbly cooked steak pie, chips and mushy peas by the River Earn on a sunny late summer evening. Friendly service.

We had the best fish and chips in Comrie at the weekend and all I can say is we will be back. The fact that the fish is freshly cooked and not sitting waiting to be dished up is a winner for me as I dont enjoy soggy fish.I look forward to being back in Comrie in a few months just for the fish and chips. 5star from me!

Went their one night while camping at Comrie Croft and the staff were very helpful, fish and chips is recommended and the batter is brilliant.

Looked forward to eating from here after passing by a few times when it was closed, but there was a rude & miserable girl serving, the portions were small and the price was way more than it was worth. Noticed the peeled chips were stored in a not so good place, no wonder we both had stomach ache afterwards and we only ate half of it. Shame because it's a beautiful village and they could do so much better

Very small portion sizes (even though I heard one worker say to another that they put too much chips with our portions - HA). Very rude staff - particularly the woman who served me who appeared to be the owners daughter - he was also rude. Very unhygienic too with the chips being kept under the sink right next to the cleaning chemicals. Joke of a place.

Having spent a week camping near Crieff with 23 scouts and 7 leaders we felt we deserved a treat for our last evening meal and decided on Fish and Chips. We had been recommended the Cormrie Fish and Chip Shop.After trying to call and email the shop with no success we visited to place our order for collection. Service was not great with it seeming to be a hassle for them to deal with our order and advising we would need to collect at 5pm rather than 5:30pm as they would be too busy to deal with us. We were also made to pay in full and to the penny with not even a hint of a discount for such a large order.Upon collection of the food we had to wait until 5:30pm which was quite ironic as that’s when we actually wanted the chips.All of the above would have been quite acceptable if we had received a top rate fish supper. Unfortunately this was certainly not the case, small portion, 1 piece of fish and chips that were hard and very disappointing. Taking a straw poll from our scouts I am afraid Comrie Fish and Chip shop was not a hit.I don’t often post reviews on trip advisor but felt it only right to share our disappointment at the service and quality of food provided. When we are back next year we will be off to Crieff for our final evening treat.

A visit here left me genuinely angry. Haggis supper, haddock supper and a sausage for the dog - over 15 quid. The haddock was two tiny pieces which were mostly batter and both suppers came with a mere handful of chips. Rip off.

Fresh products with an extensive menu. All cooked on premises, even the tatties for the chips. Fantastic experienced staff/family business & local Comrie people employed too.Great variety of menu & my fav is The fried Pineapple rings with cracked pepper. They also make burgers,pizzas, sell cold drinks, hot tea/coffee, ice-cream too. Children's menu & sit down cafe adjoined on premises.Difficult to park at times as it's on the corner of Drummond Street, but there is nearby Street parking around the corner.Take away is open 4-8pm, 4-8.30pm Fri/Sat. Friendly staff & you can watch TV whilst sitting down waiting for your order. A definite must for visitors and a great bonus to Comrie.They also run one in Perth.

We had two fish suppers from here tonight whilst on holiday cooked to order. Really nice fish and very friendly service.

We were in a rented holiday home, after a full day out we had each a fish supper. The fish was fresh and they fry to order. A tasty good size serving and definitely worth visiting if your near by and fancy a fish supper

Stopped in here thinking it wouldn't be much of a joint, but we were hungry. The fish and chips were fantastic, crispy and delicious. Try their home made tartare sauce. Wonderful!

Saw the sign and followed our noses to freshly made chips. The moment of weakness was well rewarded by good service cheery people and great chips. Felt like we had skipped the queue but they cook everything to order and judging by thr length of the line it must be good.

We were holidaying nearby and always pop in here for dinner on our first night, everything is made to order so always fresh and tastes fantastic, be prepared to wait a while at busy times but it is worthwhile, highly recommended!

Lovely food and everything is fresh cooked. Portion size is good and the staff are excellent. Great chip shop!

We were heading home to Alloa after a day of photography at Glencoe. Saw the sign and stopped off here. Got chicken suppers. Piping hot freshly cooked and very filling. Great service from the staff and prices reasonable for the size of portion. We will be back.

It was a really hot day when we popped in here and bought some ice creams. The guy who served us was so friendly and really funny. He made us laugh every minute we were in the shop until we left, asking my daughter if she wanted brown sauce on her cone. Little bits of humour that make this place memorable. We would definitely try this place again next time we pop through Comrie.

My whole family love this place! The fish is the best we’ve ever had! My family in Glasgow all go to Comrie just to get the fish n chips there.

excellent sausage supper with friendly service,i also tried a battered mars bar which ive never tried before and oddly enough i liked it.there is also a very wide variety of other takeaway meals

Whether you visit the chip shop or adjoining café you will find great fresh food. Chip shop cooks to order so may be a wait but one we'll worth waiting for. Cafe does great sandwiches and home baking.

Good wee chippy nice chicken good cihps and fish staff really nice Corrie nice wee village nice walks and criff just 6 -7 miles away will be back soon

Stopped here for a fish and chip takeaway and were not disappointed , everything cooked to order but worth the 15 minute wait , good sized portions at reasonable prices , friendly staff .

My friends andI and all associated children rented a house in Comrie for the weekend and went to the chippie for dinner on Saturday night. Even though we had multiple orders and many children floating about, they accommodated us and were quick and cheery. Will visit again!

Recently stayed at a holiday rental in St Fillans. We had two takeaways as we enjoyed it so much! Staff were always friendly and chatty whilst we waited.

Chose to stop there one day on way home from a camping and walking trip a while ago. While the fish was hot and tasty with crispy batter, it was somewhat lacking in size. The lady in front of me was obviously local as the staff called her by name. She was served a big, chunky piece of fish. I thought, this will be good.

Passing through Comrie, and have had lovely fish and chips here before. Very disappointed tonight,2 very small piece of fish which was over cooked and about 20 chip , single white pudding which was burnt and reheated, both dripping in greece, charged £9.80 for this, won't return.

Long drive home to Perth, from the gorgeous Crinan Canal. Sunny evening so thought I’d stop off in lovely Comrie to try The Comrie Fish and Chip Shop, so I wouldn’t have to prepare dinner when I got home.

We visited on a beautiful sunny day after a great day at Auchingarrich. We decided to stop for food before heading back home to Aberdeen and we’re so glad we did!

Staying in st fillans came for dinner. Fish was lovely but chips were poor. Soft and soggy. Not cheap either. Asked about dairy free batter was told it's dairy free without the batter, wasn't very accommodating for my son at all. Young girl serving was lovely though.

Food served fresh and made to order! Pleasant and polite staff! On a dangerous corner of the road but okay visiting with due care and attention for safety! Tasty chips!

The food was lovely, the battered mars bar amazing, but the kind staff even better. Definately one of the better fish & chips I have had!

3 slithers Of fish (like 3 fish fingers, size wise) NOT haddock (as advertised) we would have liked curry sauce & mushy peas but they were being kept warm in Pyrex jugs in the “hot counter” - took them to sit in the sun by the river but put them in the bin instead.

Huge menu and really friendly staff.....food was lovely....curry sauce portions a wee bit wee so bought two. All cooked fresh and happy with our purchases. Thank you

Ideally located opposite the White Church in Comrie so easy to find.

Popped in for a quick snack for lunch. Very friendly staff. Excellent home made soup and freshly made sandwiches. Very good value.

I used to come here about 20years ago and wasn't sure if the chippy would still exist. Visited here on Sunday after a days exploring and walking. Ordered two fish suppers and two cans of juice - total £15. The fish was lovely and the chips were amazing! The staff could not have been nicer also! Definitely would recommend this place and will be back :)

Best fish supper ever we visit this shop on every trip to Scotland even making detours to get there. We recommend you to make a detour.

Could could tell by the queue out the door that locals know this to be a good chippie - and it was. Everything is cooked to order, so although we had to wait, we knew it would be really fresh - no sitting around under lights getting dry. And it was!

Good chips. Good smoked sausage. Good steak pie. Hot. Just a pity the sit in bit is never open. Still, a good choppy. A rare thing these days.

Just had chips to go along side our mealin our caravan . These were the best chips we had in a long time . If we had been staying longer we would definitely be going for fish and chips .

I have eaten at a few places recently and would say the Comrie chipper is one of the best if not the best . The fish had a nice crispy batter and was not oily/ The chips were the nicest I have had, crispy and yet soft. I tried some of the fish cake and it was nice with good flavour and not too starchy. It was also reasonably priced so a winner all round.

Just stopped by and so glad we did. Food made to order, great cups of tea and great choice of healthy cakes, if you like lots of calories. Then you can go to the park in Crieff and work it of.

We had fish and chips and mushy peas! The fish was freshly prepared and very nicely done. Not too dry, not too greasy, just perfect. At least as good as the Tailend in Edinburgh and the famous one in Anstruther!

Just had lunch there food freshly made and well presented very clean and tidy the staff are very welcoming and can't do enough for you this is a MUST if you are in Comrie

Lovely little cafe and thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips. Loved the homemade tartare sauce couldn't get enough of it. Side salad with the chilli and lime dressing fantastic. Very reasonable will be back. £19 for fish, chips and side salad with a pot of tea each with more than one cup.

Live in comrie so use this place a lot. All food freshly made so be prepared to wait also usually busy so don't be in any rush.

Well made fish and chips, that is, really good fish and chips. Fresh tea from leaf tea, lots of variety. Highly recommended

We stopped by for some lunch and ordered two rolls and chips. These chips were absolutely amazing, best chip shop chips I have ever come across, not greasy and just right. We tried to stop by the next day for dinner but they were closed sadly. hopefully we can stop by again some time.

Excellent service with a smile. They do both sit in and take away. The fish supper was excellent value.

My wife and I popped in here after completing the Comrie Circular Walk, a couple of days ago, on a Saturday. We were feeling quite hungry after our 5 mile or so walk.

Travelled up from Stansted airport area and made a detour to get fish and chips. Staff were helpfull and chatty, the fish was moist with a crisp light batter and the chips were how chips should be. If you are anywhere near Comrie it is worth a detour to get fish and chips. Best I have tasted in years. Will definitely call in again next year on our trip to the highlands.

Stayed in cabins just outside Comrie, visited the Fish & Chip shop instead of cooking on Friday night. Hubby's fish was delicious as was my sausage and chips with curry sauce. Fab menu if you're looking for something different. Have already recommended in other posts too

I love stopping at this chippy whilst on my travels, I actually often go out my way to be able to stop here for food.

Having visited this chippy for many years I was in recently and having purchased a fish supper asked for my half litre water bottle to filled with tap water. Astonishingly I was refused as 'tap water costs money and they sell bottled water'.

Freshly cooked while you waited. Lots of choice. Very good. Recommended to us and glad it was. A quick drive from St Fillans

We use this fish and chip shop probably once a month. Quality has varied over the years - but, at the present time - the fish and chips, which is what we tend to buy, is great! Really good taste, good portion size, fresh, not greasy. Enjoy!

Lovely Food for those nights you do not want to cook..... Must try their battered Mars Bars and their wonderful Scampi

Small fish and chip shop with a sit in section (check opening time of sit in bit - not open same times as carry out bit. Sells all the usual hippie things. Worth a try if in Comrie.

Stopped here after a long day at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park and was pleasantly surprised at what we got. The batter on the chips and the chicken strips was light, there was no grease and the chips were light and fluffy.

Despite advice to the contrary from a local, we tried the fish & chips at this place when staying just round the corner. Haddock was the only fish offered on the pretty large menu but was perfectly acceptable, with not too much batter or oil, and a sensible sized portion of chips.

If your in Comrie then you have to try the fish and chips they were lovely and well worth a visit....

Called in after walking the Diel's Cauldron circular walk. No queue but the food is cooked to order so there is a wait. It's worth it though as the fish suppers are great.

Thick coating, but light and crispy, on the fish - we had the haddock supper take-away and it was more than we could eat. Very much a friendly, local feel in this tiny place - no room for tables for eating in.

Delicious chips and a refreshing drink after an 8 kilometre walk which set everyone up well for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's expedition of 70kilometres
