Great selection of German beers for oktoberfest

We stopped here for a quick pint after a long walk and ended up staying all afternoon and into the evening because of the great atmosphere and friendly staff. Great selection of Ales, Lagers and whiskey. They have some whiskey of all kinds and for all tastes, some I have never seen outside North America. The barman was so friendly and chatted us up all day, as a lot of the patrons since we were clearly from out of town. Highly recommended for a great pint and friendly atmosphere.

Always friendly, different rooms/ vibes for your group dependent what feel you're after. We go regularly! Great options for real ale and for gin!

Stopped there on the way home from football at Barnsley. A fantastic array of drinks and a good selection of food. But best of all was the welcome and service, which was excellent. Thanks.

One of our local pubs known for it’s fantastic array of gins, whiskies and ales also serve fabulous homemade food – and of course their infamous Chip Butties that are BIGGER THAN YOUR HEAD!! The weekly Chip Butty Night is every Wednesday and it’s amazing; order from their usual menu including lots of indulgent toppings, or check out their weekly special. The chip butty toppings menu including anything and everything from cheese, beans, bacon, chilli con carne, fried egg, the list goes on. There is also a changing weekly special that has so far including things like Cauli-Cheese, Prawn Thai Curry, Paneer Balti (my recommendation -pictured above!), Guinness Cheese Dip etc. I know what you’re thinking, some of these sounds crazy, but they totally work. Make your own creation and just enjoy it. One of my latest creations – Chinese Salt & Pepper Onions and Peppers and a fried egg. This was salty, spicy and the egg really complimented the whole thing. I ate the lot. Ben’s Butty – Good old chips, fried onions, cheese & gravy. The gravy was so good. A perfect butty for a northerner. Prices start at £3.20 and your meal really will be “cheap as chips”. Support local pubs and go give this a try – let me know what you think and what creations you come up with. The Commercial also started Sheffield Distillery which is onsite where they create their own selection of Gins and Vodkas or which you can enjoy at the pub, or buy to take home. Plus not only are their Chip Butties something to rave about, but they have a decent pub grub menu served daily (menu sample below) and do various specials as well. The Commie is a very traditional pub scene and has a local but welcoming atmosphere. First time in this pub.(wont be the last ) Lovely food. Great drinks. Very cheap to what i normaly pay. Staff (landlord/landlady ??????? Were brilliant told us all about there vodkas and gins. Bit early for me but i tried their Honey Vodka. O M G. I cant wait to buy a bottle. My mother who is very hard to please is already planning on another visit next week. See u all soon. X

Had to go after seeing their chip butty night go viral. It didn't disappoint. Gorgeous chunky homemade chips on a fresh bap. We kept it traditional just having mushy peas and curry sauce with ours, but really we were spoilt for choice. I will definitely go again. Recommend you book though because it was busy. Great to see a local pub so full on a Wednesday night

Great selection of real ales, went on a Wednesday night which is a chip butty night, different chip butty every week, also a selection of favourit chip butties or traditional pub meals, I had the meat pie and chips, lush and good value 😋

Good choice of beers and lots of gins and other shots 👌 did not have a meal so can not say much about that and they do☕️ has well

There a guy cold ben behind the bar he dont take rubish but tell you what hes a good worker and trys to put a smaile on everone really nice staff but that guy stood out defo go back if hes on

Used to be better... Selection of Scotch was why we went as before COVID they had an enormous selection...even had a scotch menu. That's gone, selection is good but random...overall the place has gone downhill. Five if ya went for a scotch tasting night and all said not happy with the place anymore... Will not repeat.

Came earlier on today for dinner was so lovely I had meat and potato pie mushy peas chips was gorgeous my friend had burger lovely atmosphere nice place definitely have to go again

Had a nice lunch here. A pub that sets it's stall out to offer a range of excellent beers, properly looked after and served with pride.

Great atmosphere. Real ales. Visited on "Chip Butty" night. My wife and I had chip butties with Bratwurst, mustard & curry powder 😋.

Good pub with a good selection of beers but the night was spoiled by a lad behind bar called Ben, he was rude and aggressive in tone when he ordered us to move away from the bar after buying our drinks, needs to learn how to approach people, its a shame as a large crowd of us go in regular, wont be returning from now on and taking my custom elsewhere.

Fantastic traditional pub. The food is amazing. The drinks this pub as is just wow. Over 200 whiskeys and over a 100 gins. Plus real ale. What else could you ask for. Our new pub when we go out.

Great pint, with always a warm and what a collection of Whiskeys, wow!!! also if your a fan of Vodka or Gin it's worth a visit as they have their own distillery on site and if that wasn't enough their Cip Butties ate to die for!!!

Excellent selection of drinks especially gins and whiskies and cosy atmosphere. The chip buttys on a Wednesday night are fabulous.

Went for folk night. Outstanding collection of gins and malt whiskies, well kept cask ales. Loads going on and a good upstairs room. Staff smiley and helpful. What a pub should be.

The whisky tasting evening was well worth the visit. We tasted 3 Whiskies and 1 Bourbon all of which were very good. Paul gave information with each one. The drinks + sandwiches +chips for £18 were excellent value. I look forward to attending the next special event.

Been going here with my friends for years. Always freindly staff, good products available, whisky night is a real eye opener.

Saturday late evening visit . Pub had very few people in it but I was interested in the place as it was first time I'd been. Lots of choice behind the bar and several staff ready to serve us. We ordered chips and they came quickly and tastefully to ease our hunger . Good selection on the juke box too . Big open room at one side and smaller seating areas at the other.comfortable and clean place

Lovely old style local, with a fabulous selection of cask ales. Only slight drawback is the narrow corridor bar, which is usually cramped with locals so you have to fight your way through to get served. Visited again 27/03/22 still a great range of cask ales, with a huge selection of whisky and locally distilled vodka too.
