The Collon Cafe & Takeaway in Derry

This was one of the worst restaurants i’ve tired i was so excited to try but had the worst experience when i got it. I ordered a Chicken curry baker and salt and chilli chips. I sat down to eat and the red onion smelt like dog and tasted like did as did the chicken curry which completely put me off the salt and chilli chips however the salt and chilli chips where okay but as of trying the baker it had put me off i got the kinder cheesecake and the kinder piece on told of it was stale was horrible worst experience definitely won’t be back again waste of 25 pound for something that smelt and tasted of dog

The works dog is the best hotdog in the city. Food is nice, have had good experiences take away and when sitting in. Plenty of parking if your going to sit in.

Order came completely wrong and when I rung them back they told me they didn't have what I ordered in the first place and just apologised .. food, drinks and dips all wrong ,nearly £30 down the drain just to tell me the owner is on holidays and there sorry absolute joke

Food was fantastic. Out of this world. Prices are very reasonable and I would highly recommend. Their menu has something to suit everyone's taste

Amazing wee family chippy They go over and beyond what is expected Kids love there meals Wife loves the veggie options especially the cajun Halloumi burger My favourites are the chicken box Baker is I'm being good or the Mexican Hotdog for the hangover days don't think I had anything bad 100% recommended 👌

Pretty average food, nothing too amazing, but nice enough. But for the price, the food for me is not up to the same standard as the price suggests sadly.

Visited here while in the city and looking for a place to get lunch. Great wee spot. Proper hearty food and great portions with a large menu. The loaded hot dog was great, as was the curried chip with cheese. Proper chippy chips and curry sauce. The lemon tart was also delicious. Would 100% recommend here for anyone who knows what proper cafe food is and likes that quality home cooked cafe/chippy vibe.

Called to place an order for collection. Specifically requested no cheese on my order. Stressed no cheese to the guy taking the order before the call ended. On collection of my order, I again advised what my order was...without cheese. When I got home my food was covered in cheese. I called to advise of their error. A lady apolosised advising they were busy and this was the reason my order was wrong ? I asked if she could arrange my correct order to be delivered. She said she could...but it would take over an hour to do so. It's very annoying when you try to support local business even when this means paying more for the privilage and then receive such a poor customer experience in return.

Ordered a delivery from here the other day, thought we'd give it a go as we've not had a delivery from here in a while. Firstly the delivery was really quick, the food was packaged very well indeed... Now onto the food as with the delivery being so quick it was piping hot which shows that the chef making the food takes pride in what he/she is doing, compliments to the chef!.. I ordered the Collon Combo Burger and honestly I wasn't expecting anything special but how wrong I was, it was easily the best burger I've had in a very long time 10/10 the beef patty was cooked to perfection as well as the battered chicken fillet, I've never had pepperoni on a burger but it really works well with the meats and beautiful crispy onions.. The other half ordered a chicken baguette and told me she will be ordering again as it was amazing... The kids had cheese burgers and chips and they loved them too... Will definitely recommend and will certainly be back.. 10/10

I don't normally buy from fish & chips shops in Derry because the quality is awful but I thought I would give it a try with all the good reviews. I wasn't surprised, same awful quality. Ordered 2 fresh haddock suppers and got 2 small fish wrapped together with 1 bag of chips. Never again.

Good selection on the menu and tasty food.

We have found this little spot recently and it is amazing at first look doesn't seem that much different from the usual chippy food we are all used to but dont be put off very clean and staff are amazing and OMG everything is amazing and they literally will do or try and do anything you can ask for my favourite is the baked potato's best in derry and beyond my husband loves there fresh fish my kids are very picky but every time we mention a wee meal out the collon wins they love it and there homemade desserts you'll be spoilt for choice We are grateful to have such an amazing little place so close to us

This place is amazing staff so friendly when you phone always take the time to help when you're placing an order and so quick at delivery no 3 hour wait in this place love it

Had a few people for a meeting the guys an I had no time so we stopped and seen this little cafe bit small but they moved a table together for us to sit closer the guys were more than happy to help we had tea and coffee at first then we had food I had the fresh haddock was absolutely amazing best I've had other meals we had were the steak sub lovely fresh and tender also homemade chicken goujon with crispy batter and fresh salad we also had a few desserts great big portion yummy ice-cream it was a shock how good the food was and the fellas definitely done the place proud Great wee gem will definitely be back

On my recent trip back to Derry City i had alot of eating experinces of which i miss while living in England, in my early years i grew up in Derry where i was introduced to the "chicken box" back then one of the first places to do it was the "collon takeaway" they served these boxes which comprised of chicken, chips, onion, garlic mayo, taco sauce and other mysteries which all tasted great once together. on my recent trip i was asking around where was the best place to get one that reminded me of the good old days as the place was taken over a few years ago and their chicken boxes didn't taste the same, upon giving up and just deciding to go there again, i found out the place i had previously a bad experince with had actually been knocked down and the petrol station which had been there was re-developed and this little gem of a cafe was there. Upon entering the shop i relised it wasn't the same place i had been to on my previous visit, the food smelt good, the menus had great varities and most importantly they served a chicken box. the price was perfect and upon the first bite i experinced the bliss of remembering what a chicken box should taste like! i haven't tasted a chicken box that good since 10+ years ago, all the flavours were there, there's also so much more on their menu which sounded highly appealing however i was on a 14 day trip and although i had over 13 takeaways as it was a food, friend and family trip i just couldn't do everything :D Sadly no photo on this review, i believed i had taken a photo however my phone seemed to not have saved it.

Mouthwatering restaurant quality food for half the price also some new amazing boxes and healthy products
