The Coffee House in Peterborough

Excellent little coffee house (discovered on google / trip advisor) very conveniently located just over a mile off the A47 Peterborough Road. We were travelling with friends from Nottingham to Norfolk so this was a very suitable half way stop. Very clean well decorated premises - very welcoming & friendly staff. Excellent choice of snacks / sandwiches (freshly prepared for you) and wonderful cakes. Interesting quirky lamp shades - upside down teacups and saucers! Highly recommended (so much so we stopped there on the way home too!) ps Don't judge a book by it's cover aka don't be put off by the fenced off rough ground adjacent to the coffee house! TheCoffee House offerings are very good indeed.

I have visited the Coffee House several times over recent years but am afraid I have recently paid my last visit. The prices , I find are now too high and having paid £3.25 for a very small scone and butter think the value is poor . It’s a shame but a sign of the times !

Absolutely cracking find and so pleased we did. Food very fresh and well priced. Staffed by young folk who were attentive and good at their jobs with a sense of humour too. 10/10 and thanks.. 👍👍😋

Can’t say much as I have only had the pleasure of dining at this establishment once but what I can say is absolutely astounding!! The cheese and ham toastie is exquisite, it truly made my day. I thank the owners and staff for grace me with such a glorious lunchtime meal. This establishment is also apparently quite good for those riding equine creatures (horses specifically) as there is a beautiful seating arrangement just across the road which really gives you that natural feeling!

Close tables crammed together is the only real letdown for me. Apart from this a good cosy design. I’ve always had good cakes when I’ve been but I know some people who have complained about cakes being too dry. They sell local produce from shops from other villages, like eggs and bread. sometimes in the summer they put the tables and chairs out across the road, so keep this in mind A nice small cafe that recently changed hands. Would only stop if I couldn’t go anywhere else.

Stopped for coffee and a spot of lunch. All was very tasty and served by helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely stop there again.

Any hot food is sadly cooked in a microwave! One to avoid. Sorry I don't like leaving bad reviews but just dont want other people thinking it's amazing food and making a trip out as we did. They don't have any other cooking facilities. Bacon, eggs and even the chips are bought in precooked from cash and carry and warmed up in a microwave. So whilst you think you're at a nice local cafe with fresh cooked food you're getting anything but. No idea what the full english breakfast on the menu would be like from a microwave. Atmosphere seemed OK at first but the young guys serving were sat on the counter whilst we were there, which was very odd. Then they kept sniggering like school children, just strange. Sadly would now avoid due to knowing how the food is made and a nearly a fiver for a microwaved bacon sandwich with paper thin bacon - seriously, you'd be better from a van at the side of the road, at least it would be freshly made food not warmed up. Oh and as for the microwave chips that were served old. The server grinned and said, yeh, we generally have problems with those. Er, so why serve them? Sadly one to give a swerve to. Really wanted it to be nice food. I really feel for the owner, who was a really nice guy. So much potential but let down by the food and his juvenile waiting staff.

Lovely place to stop for lunch. We stopped here on our way to Norfolk lodge and woods. We had lunch and coffees all excellent and freshly made It’s nice to support local businesses

First time in a while I’ve been to the Coffee House and had a great time. The food was lovely and the coffee was just right. Had a chat with the staff who were very friendly and welcoming. The place has been transformed since the new owners took over. From what the staff told me anyone who writes a positive review about the Coffee House gets a nasty threatening message telling them to take down their review. I’ve wrote this review to support this lovely coffee shop and I suggest everyone to come together and support their local Coffee Shop against bullies. Highly recommend anyone from the village or just passing by to pop in. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Cappuccino was burning hot with barely any frothed milk. Brownies were very dry.

We love it here visit twice a week and ten of our friends are there every Wednesday lunchtime !

During our cycling trip from Peterborough centre to Ailsworth, we made stop here for a bite to eat and a drink. Charming coffee shop that gets busy, especially at lunch time. Friends had recommeding it, so I am glad I got to give it a shot.

The whole point of a coffee house is to make good coffee. What I received instead was boiling hot burnt milk. I hate leaving bad reviews but it’s just not acceptable to allow your main product out the door if it’s not up to any standard whatsoever. Brownie however was excellent.

A pleasant independent cafe with a nicely varied menu that both the bacon person and the health conscious will agree on! There is seating across the road on the grass as well as outside seating in front of the shopfront and indoors. Some come for a meal, some to hang out, some for a quite cuppa or coffee. Parking in a layby outside is quite limited. 4 cars?

Friendly staff and atmosphere. Tasty food. Good selection of beverages. They have a loyalty card system, where for every 10 cuppas purchased, you get one free.

Great little cafe to go past if you ever visit Castor / Ailsworth , good coffee and selection of cakes

We had walked from the ferry meadows campsite through the country park which the campsites are in,through meadows to castor the 3 pubs in village 2 were closed and one being worked on. We found this lovely cafe had a full english breakfast and tea from a teapot ( how quaint) and at a reasonable price staff were polite and cheerful. Would recommend highly.

Quiet unassuming village coffee shop catering for breakfast and lunches, does good business with the locals, and invites passing trade with a warm welcome. We have a friend who stays in the village, and speaks quite highly of the shop,always happy to recommend a visit.

Beautiful little cafe. Always stop here when out cycling. Staff are so lovely nothing too much trouble. Back today for first time since end of last summer. Nicola always remembers us and greets us with a friendly smile.

A great community buzz. We stopped here as a mini detour off the A47 having never been to Castor before, to break up the journey. We had tea/coffee/hot chocolate and scones and a sausage role. Delicious. I highly recommend this place. Cosy, friendly atmosphere with beautiful decor, good quality and tasting food and drink with much variety. There are also some great local things to buy if you want. We will stop here again on the way back I think.

If you want a good coffee, but a change from the "usual suspects", then this is a great short diversion off the A47.

Still love coming here, great food and drink options with delicious cakes too. The additional tables on the green are great if you're out cycling too. Great to see they've updated their menu with more savoury food too, although they could do with a better heating method for the sausage rolls to avoid soggy pastry.

Booked a table for 2 as recommended. No prices on the menu which I find difficult to budget, fortunately cost was not important that day but I like to know what I am letting myself into. Quite expensive which is what I expected with no prices on show. Service slow on that day as wasn't sure of their order system. A very pleasant cafe with choice of eating inside or outside on the green. Very popular place. Bought some lovely cake to take home.

Can’t handle a lot of customers at once. Food ok. Chips are meagre I had 11 on a plate. Teapots drip when pouring

We often stop here for coffee and panini or some cake, which are all delicious. Sitting on the little green opposite, in the sunshine, is wonderful! Staff are all so friendly. Lovely place to visit!

Nice cake but coffee is so poor, been a few times and now have coke which seems daft given name of the place. Update: tried again months after review above but same result, coffee is really weak.

I brougt my polish friend for coffee today. Before we came, I called asking for a gluten free fresh cake, the lady said they were available, but it wasn't there. Very long waiting time for only coffee and outside sitting. Bad service. I don't recommend. Very disappointing.

This place is amazing. We have taken items away several times but we decided to sit in and booked a table for the next day. Unfortunately on the day our little ones nursery was unexpectedly closed due to staff illness so we took our two little ones with us including our 3 year old Autistic son. He did not settle well and was upset by the noise of the coffee machine. The staff were absolutely incredible. They really made an effort to help him settle and they were really helpful and friendly. They warned us every time they turned the coffee machine on so we could help him with the noise. The food and drinks were amazing, really fresh and excellent quick service. I was blown away by this place and would definitely recommend it

Great little coffee shop. Gorgeous cakes, good coffee and very friendly staff in the middle of a stunning proper village, love it and will be going back for more.

Since the Covid restrictions its not good. I do hope it returns to normal soon and I will then give 4/5stars but not right now.

Really wish I could rate this higher! The decor itself is very lovely and it’s placed bang in the centre of Castor, which is beautiful in itself. However, I really wish this place could stand for its name as from my multiple visits, I’ve gathered that coffee is definitely not their strong point. None of the coffees I’ve had ever were what they say on the menu. Flat white? More like a latte. Iced coffee? More like a milky water with a drop of coffee. I didn’t even ask for milk! The coffee itself always tastes bitter, burnt and over-extracted. One of the times I’ve also ordered food which they also managed to get wrong. I really want to love this place but after giving this place a few good go’s, I wouldn’t come back and definitely would not call this a *coffee* house.

This is my favourite cafe! Bev is such a friendly owner and so helpful. The coffee is lovely and there are always new types of cakes. I also love the sandwiches. My toddler loves going here! Very friendly and would highly recommend. Perfect location - 10 mins drive from Peterborough and 15From Stamford, In the beautiful villages of Ailsworth and Castor! It’s lovely to go to a non chain place for a change! Enjoy :)

I’m a regular in the Coffee House. I can recommend the bacon and sausage baps (ask for a big one!). All freshly cooked and using high quality ingredients. Never any rush to get you to leave. It’s my little bit of heaven. Oh and the coffee is wonderful. Proper leaf tea in china cups and the cakes are to die for. Possibly my favourite coffee shop of all.

I was lucky enough to turn up and get a seat, but I would recommend booking as they have had to remove a few tables to keep with covid restrictions. Had quick and friendly service, I can't recommend the warm dressed cheese scone enough! Followed with the tastiest chocolate pumpkin cake which really is worth the calories. There is plenty of seating out on the green opposite, unfortunately with winter on its way it may be a little hit and miss with the weather, but that is the times we are in. I felt very comfortable with how "covid secure" the shop was, with all effort being made towards safety. Highly recommend.

Delicious coffee and cake with my bubble friends. So nice to catch up in this lovely friendly, Covid safe cafe. Coffee is particularly good. Nutty flavours, no bitterness. Social distancing on the pavement outside, screens between tables, outside seating and individual shelter on request for tables on the green if the weather is inclement.
