The Cock & Pye in Ipswich

Popped in here with my teenage daughter on Sunday lunchtime (3rd Nov) for a light snack. What a gem of a place it is: Welcoming very friendly staff, excellent food and drink and very reasonably priced. I had the steak sandwich which consisted of fresh chunky bread with succulent beef that was cooked to perfection (they asked beforehand how I'd like the beef cooked). My daughter had the Halloumi Wrap which she said was delicious. Highly recommended.

Sorry...but when I use to use this pub a few a few years ago, when I lived and worked in Ipswich, I enjoyed the place and good good on offer. I popped today,and how disappointing I was. I appreciate that any Public House has to make a profit, but it needs to entice the customer's with a healthy and clean environment, especially when food is served. The tables, sticky, the ambience none exsisting...everything looked worse for wear. Toilet doors did not lock, needed maintenance, and a good clean too. Menu's looked old and yellow , everything needs updating, decorating and staff taught how to acknowledge customers. Obviously not returning and intended to eat, but the food leaving the kitchen, was not presented in a nice way. A good old pub, with a lot of history...going to the dogs....shame.

A nice little pub. The food is so good, would recommend to anyone and everyone. All the staff are very friendly and would go above and beyond :)

I went in there today for a drink old lady behind bar was rude asked me for Id which Im 40 didn't think I needed n I got refused to be served she's blind I would understand if I looked under 18 but I don't so I hope this gets sorted or will take my complaints further thank you

Katie who works here greeted us from the moment we walked in . Very friendly and so polite and helpful, such a lovely person, she should be a manager , food excellent

Met a couple of friends for a pint and decided to have a bite to eat. Beer was good and the food was OK.

Strange experience, in men’s toilets got a camera right above the urinals, strange behaviour and they think it’s acceptable to ban someone for covering the camera, asked to speak to the manager but wouldn’t come speak to me about it, no hand letter givin to say “banned” just got the security to not let me in

My old drinking hole from my uni days in the 90's. Although the bar has moved to the other side of the building it still had those homely vibes.

We came across this lovely pub as we were walking round Ipswich. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and created a nice atmosphere the pub has a nice sun trapped garden, The drinks were tasty and fresh. We ordered a couple of small food dishes the nachos and sticky chicken and it was absolutely lovely.

Went in for breakfast ,I still cannot believe what we received for £4.95 ,see photo,cooked very well ,great quality of all items toast coffee comes as extra ,lovely surroundings, good service ,asked twice if all eas OK,and didn't break the bank ,will definitely go back when in town .

Pub looks small on the outside but is quite pleasant and roomy inside. Service was friendly enough, prices reasonable but the food was excellent. One of (if not the) best steak and ale pies I have eaten. Tasty, good pastry, plenty of meat and gravy. The rest of the family said their food was excellent also. Would highly recomend for familes friends or couples.

Great pub for all needs, was here for the Liverpool v Manchester United game on the 7th of April, great drinks, great food, great atmosphere and staff are lovely, personally was served my Monica at the bar, great customer service and all round good vibes.

Recently popped in before the Ipswich /Southampton game. On match days its an Ipswich fans only pub. First time I had been in for years and the pub had a lovely vibe. We easily purchased drinks and food which was quickly delivered to our table . Just a short walk away from the ground it’s an ideal stop off.

We visited the Cock&Pye on a Saturday night and it was very busy mainly with youngsters but never any trouble.We decided not to have food here as it was to busy to relax.

We had a lovely afternoon at the Cock and Pye. Friendly staff and excellent service. I would highly recommend this pub in the centre of Ipswich.

Great place to drink with friends. Decent atmosphere. Served by Cherrelle who was professional and a good laugh. Music is great as well.

The staff are really friendly. Jelly shots are banging. Cherrelle was really nice and friendly. They have a good range of ciders such as old mout, rekorderlig and a wide range of beers.

The food was not very good I had the bbq chicken and the chips were over done the onion rings were just batter and over done and a very little portion the chicken was in a terrible bbq and onion sauce it was more like a bbq and onion relish rather than a sauce and three little tomatoes on the side that felt like they had nothing to do with the main course itself very underwhelmed with the food.

The Cock and Pye is a great pub, never silly busy early evening but is relaxed atmosphere , great pub pre -Regent gig, lovely food served quickly and a good range of beers. Great and friendly, very welcoming and helpful staff team.Had the Mix & Share Pub Plate, one dish unavailable however serendipitous as the alternative was wonderful. Try the pretzel and beer cheese dip and thank me later! Recommended, they are not doing Sunday lunches at the moment, but have the Greene King Hazy Day beer on trial and only 1 of 40 pubs to do so, very nice if you like a Blue Moon, definitely worth a visit.

My friend got the police called on them for acting weird when he is autistic, when he is literally just having a good time. Everyone in our group is neurodivergent, I thought we’d be safe there but apparently not.

The staff, Monica, was extremely welcoming and helpful, gave superb recommendations on the menu choices. The food was perfect, well prepared and delicious. I'd definitely recommend a visit to the Cock and Pye.

Great beer, footie on big screen, service top drawer…staff know their products and the customer always comes first…what’s not to love!!

This is superb venue in the centre of Ipswich, we enjoyed our lunch with good food, nice wine and a pint of IPA perfect!! The staff are wonderful Alex,Katie and Ben make us elderly customers so welcoming it’s a pleasurable experience.

One of the best pubs in town. One of the original places to be at. Great service, food - pub grub. Chilled daytime atmosphere and weekend nights get lively. Recommended

As we walked in I got a strong smell of urine Staff were really friendly and attentive The pool table was to close to the wall to be able to play a decent game We did not have a meal so can't comment on the food And then I see the chairs as in picture I wounder if this is where the urine smell was coming from Nearly all the chairs where like this

This is a great bar. The staff are awesome. They were super attentive and also had great customer service skills. the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is pretty decent. All in all well worth a visit

Great pub in the town centre of Ipswich. Serves delicious food, sports shown (also have a big screen) and DJ entertainment at over the weekends! Team are always friendly and provide a fast and efficient service. 5*'s all round!

I come in here a lot recently after walking past it countless times, it’s a great spot that can easily be missed due to the location but seriously worth going in. I go during the day when it’s more of a restaurant/pub feel, but I know in the late evening it is quite lively with more of a bar/club vibe especially on weekends. It’s a Greene king pub and the menu isn’t massive but it’s got a lot of good dishes on offer. I go for the small plates as it’s great value and the options are expansive. The staff are always lovely, all seem to know very well their craft. Atmosphere is usually chilled unless it’s game day, the decor is very chic and nice for a pub!

I popped in there on Sunday, which I don't normally do, but I'm a bit of a sucker for a nice ale and pretty much every time I go in there the barman JJ recommends an ale he think I might like, and he'd told me about Hazy Daze being on ... It was a nice day and I like the beer garden. So I had to pop in and have one. It was spot on, and whilst I was enjoying that one of the kitchen staff, Christian was on break and was telling me about the food menu.. I was almost tempted by the food but I'd eaten already. But I might pop back for some food at some point because he was speaking highly of it. I'm reasonably regularly in there but all the staff make me feel welcome and it's a homely place when it's quiet and a dancy party vibe when it's DJ / music time. And it's slap bang in town so it's a decent location.

Booked for my 60th birthday party of 12 this pub had been recommend. I certainly wouldn't recommend nearly everything we ordered from the menu wasn't available. They blamed it on the cricketers being shut. Funny we'd been there earlier. When we eventually found something on the menu they had they couldn't even get that right. Bit embarrassing really for my party of friends.

Contracted security are bullies, willing to assault people for peacefully standing their ground.

Had the lunchtime meal deal. Food was fantastic. Would definitely go there again

We have visted this pub before, it is a fine no frills kind of place. The food we had was okay, as were the dtinks. Service okay also.

We went in with the dogs today, who we've been in before multiple times, only to be told they can't allow the dogs in. Very strange for this pub chain.

Staff really hard working and efficient. Food was poor, sorry. Over cooked steak, sliced up and shriveled when served covered in pesto. I don't mind pesto but you should ask what sauce people want on steak. Wilted salad. Fries were gorgeous. We'd pre booked but not been told pudding stopped being served at a certain time so alot of is left a bit hungry still. Everyone else in my party had a burger that they loved though. Drinks reasonably priced.

Booked a table for a family Christmas meal on 20/12, at 17.45 pm , we booked it a week ahead, had several emails before the night , confirming the booking , so we were all looking forward to a nice meal and drink for Christmas. Arrived at the Cock and Pye only to be told , After we had ordered and paid for our drinks that the kitchen had closed early. When we pointed out we had heard nothing, we were informed that the contact details they had were no good , even though we had already had 2 confirmation emails from the pub . When we pointed this out all we got was a shrug of the shoulders , not even an apology or explanation why the kitchen had closed early. Terrible customer service and we will not be going to this place again.

Food was delicious as it always is when we eat here. The lady and gentleman serving were so friendly and polite. Lovely wine too.

It is a shame I cannot give less stars. Great service at the bar and when I first came in. However all went sour when my food was brought out by a miserable lady with frizzy hair and glasses. I had asked for food to come as starters and then main. She brought them both together and I said one was meant to be a starter. She said oh, well, nothing I can do about it now, not going to cook you a fresh one… so ended up having to eat both together.. main course ended up cold and had to leave some. I get mistakes happen, but her attitude stunk… (also she needs to learn that people can hear what you mutter under your breath)

Visited and chose the Sunday roast ,the table we sat at was still dirty from the previous customer and we had to request it to be cleaned which seemed to be an effort and we noticed we were not the only table that had to ask this.The food was awful,potatoes were bruised and the veg looked a day old. The beef was like leather, and overall the food was barely hot. After eating a few mouthfuls, we decided to leave. Overall, I am very disappointed as the service and food are normally spot on. This has put me off from visiting again.

The food is excellent and at a very good price, staff are attentive. Waiting time is good, but can get really busy, they will give you an estimated time if you want. Disabled facilities, and it's very clean, table's cleaned all the time. Plenty of choice for beer and wine aswell.

Food is always been good & hot, the 3 of us had the scampi this time & cooked just how we like it. Staff are very friendly, so worth a visit if you are in the town centre

Came for a group meal last night, and it will be the last, went to bar, and girl wouldn't fine the gin that was on the app.. when she did it was empty and had no more, ordered food, when it came out, the lady said "I don't know what this is?" Then came out with the other food, and we had left 5 of the dishes in the kitchen, as she thought our was the order over, I'd got to bar to get cutlery, and was told it's come out with the meal, when she came back (food has been out about 7-10 mins by then) and asked about the cutlery as food was getting cold, I was told, in busy and we only have 2 kitchen staff. ... sorry, if your bring food out, you need cutlery to eat while it hot. She can back and dumped on the table!! Not enough napkins or forks.....

Popped in just before food stopped being served, but barman squeezed us in. Food was tasty and good value. Place was clean. Not very busy on a Sunday evening. Would go again.

Great drinks and atmosphere, good for a game of pool. A wide selection of drinks. Unfortunately a small section of food, used to be much more extensive. I wish they'd add more. One of our favourite pubs tho.

The food was almost spot on, although the sourdough bread they gave me was stale. But everything else was very tasty especially for a greene king is up there!

Friendly staff but the men’s toilets are a bit of a shock. No lavatory paper, vandalised and cover panels covered with very questionable stickers/content. Good selection of beer and wine, didn’t eat food on the visit. Would visit again.

Girls nights out. The Dj is a hit and miss as you ask for things and he just plays stuff to keep the young clientel happy not the over 40s

Burger was 10/10 delicious ... However as expected drinks were very pricey !

Barman knocked a pint of ale over and went all down my leg. No apology, no help to dry off my jeans, just thought it was funny.

Great place to meet. The steak pie is second to none! Great choice of drinks and really friendly staff. And right in the middle of town.
