We had a great meal on Thursday evening. Really good value and the staff were lovely with the children!

Yesterday had a lovely meal there the staff and were Very helpful and good behaviour.

We had a lovely meal at The Cock Horse last night. The two women behind the bar were super friendly and really lovely with our children. The food was very good value (with good sized portions) and tasty and they were happy to bring out a surprise birthday cake I’d made for my sister’s birthday afterwards at no extra cost. We felt very welcome, were very well looked after and had a really nice evening.

Nice little pub, good food, and in a very historic location. I recommend if in the area.

Called ahead for a table for Sunday lunch. Waited in the bar way past the time of our booking and had to ask staff if our table was ready as they didn’t come and get us. We finally sat down nearly half an hour after our booked time with no explanation or apology for the wait although we had phoned through only 20 minutes prior to arriving. Restaurant was not overly busy. My husband and I both ordered a beef roast. Vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were nice but roast beef was grisly and inedible. My husband asked for steak knives as we couldn’t cut through the beef which he mentioned to a member of staff who seemed unconcerned when it was mentioned. There was no usual check that everything was ok. Husband struggled on with his beef and ate it but I couldn’t eat mine even though by then we were both very hungry. When our meal was collected and we reported again that it wasn’t ok the staff member apologised but queried why my husband had eaten his. A staff discount was taken off as I couldn’t eat mine but honestly for the price it was a complete letdown. A staff member also dropped some cutlery on the floor and picked it up and wiped it on his sleeve! Large cobweb across the window where we were sitting as well. Very disappointed and would definitely avoid at all costs!

Poor service staff spent more time with customers in the bar music to loud long wait to order drinks food and bill.

Lovely pub & restaurant with decent cocktail selection. We popped in for dinner and were really looked after, staff are friendly & engaging. Food is lovely, easy 4 stars.

4 of us went and none of us really enjoyed our main course. Pushed to find any fish in the fish cakes, and heavy stodgy vegetarian burger. Sharing starter saved the day!

We had a Sunday roast which was nice.

We had a lovely late lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. Pleasantly surprised still serving food at past 2pm! The fish menu was available and the moules et frites were really tasty with plenty of flavour. Varied menu suits all tastes. Downside was the restaurant is quite open so noise travelled from some of the bigger groups of people at tables, so sometimes hard to hear. Staff were pleasant and attentive.

Service was pleasant and friendly with a neat atmosphere. Food was average though and the price on the menu doesn't match the price on the receipt 😂 (although the difference is small - it's the principle)

Nice restaurant with some international foods and beverages. I didn't expect to see Birra Moretti and could't resist :)

Went for a light lunch. Waw. It was seriously good and plenty.... only a short walk from this wonderful very unusual village where Harry Potter was filmed. Plenty to see here. The church opposite this pub is worth a visit as well.

Great service. Highly recommend the Ploughman’s Lunch. Delicious and great value. Sorry; no picture. I ate it too quickly.

Very nice. Lovely food and drink.

First of all, the service and the employees were great ! However the food was not very good. We've ordered a cheddar sandwich on the kid's menu which was only bread, butter and cold cheddar on it. Too bad it was not melted. Our son didn't want to eat. The rest of our food was basic. The lemonade tasted like sprite. However, I insist on the quality of the service because they were great !

Just went for drinks but lovely place

Excellent food and service, have been here many times and food is always very good and fairly priced with good selection on the menu.

First visit on the spur of the moment and very pleased. Great food, cracking beer - Sharps Atlantic Pale Ale, very good staff and even a great playlist for the background music! 🎶 Definitely not our last visit.

Lavenham is a must see place. Pub was friendly and prices good

Unfortunately we were unable to eat here as they do not practice good allergen control in the kitchen and informed us that they have two friers but use them for "everything", meaning my wife with a crustacean intolerance couldn't have the majority of items due to cross contamination from their scampi.

Probably the best value pub with a great menu in the village. Fantastic food except the onion bhajis need to be cooked for much longer. Fantastic staff.

We stayed for one night in Lavenham we noticed the pub earlier on in the day and decided to have a wander up. This pub is extremely dog friendly, there offer a dog menu and the 2 ladies that served us gave our dog a lot of fuss and attention. We have already decided that we will back. The food was also amazing. Such a lovely place to with or without.

Invited friends to join us for a meal, 1st time and we all left totally satisfied. Staff made us feel welcome from start to finish and as for food, well it was absolutely delicious and we look forward to returning Fantastic pub that delivers Keep it up and we look forward to our next visit

Food was great! Environment was also pleasant!

Very quiet but excellent burgers , would recommend. Burger and chips were piping hot and full of flavour. Much improved from the awful Thai green curry I had a couple of years ago when I said I'd never step foot in there again.

Good food - all done fresh to order. Was in for lunch on a Monday and it was decently filled with 14/16 people enjoying lunch. doesn't look too great from the outside but please ignore that and go in, it does really just need a good clean & tidy . dog friendly also was lovely to see with various treats and beverages to boot..

Chairs are too low for the tables.

Very disappointing, went for lunch, and it was a letdown. My partner ordered a burger, chips & and salad, I ordered an Ox cheek cottage pie, plus some drinks. The food arrived. My partner was OK, and mine wasn't. Mine should have had mash on it, but it had a savoury crumble on it! I tried the cottage pie, it was cold! I informed the waitress, she said sorry and took the plate away, asked me if I still wanted my meal I said yes. She did return a few minutes later and told us the cost of the drinks would be taken off the bill, couple of minutes later she brought a bowl of chips, and said chef was sorry, your meal will be with in in 5 minutes. I had neither asked for or wanted the chips. By the time my meal did arrive, my partner had finished his lunch. My pie this time did have mash on top, but there was more mash than anything. The filling was only just warm when I was asked if everything was OK, I did explain my disappointment at not eating the same time as my partner and the quality of the food. The reply was, " Well, we've taken the cost of your drinks off." Not really the best service to give, we won't be going back, and I would tell people to avoid it!

A pleasant Sunday dinner with friends ruined by roast beef that was inedible. Felt sorry for the nice waiting staff who had to hear our complaints. Very noisy dining area with zero atmosphere. A first and last visit to this so called "pub of the year"

Large restaurant at the far end of town opposite the church. Food and prices are good. Shame about the state of the tables though - apparently used in the week for arts classes. All the tables are like it so no point moving tables. Think about what the tables are actually meant for, like eating on? Shame really as the waitress was nice and the food good. Just get the tables sorted and it would be a great place.

Had a lovely meal on Sunday after we had to check our livery yard for flooding, Which iam glad to say didn't flood, because we are hoping to build a wellness centre, so a great day with great food, well done 😊😊

Nice pub. Sadly it was fully booked for meals on Sunday lunchtime so check before you go. The food looked lovely.

We attended a pre wedding get-together, and the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. It was quite a large gathering, just for drinks, but the three kids ate and really enjoyed their meals.

Awful experience and terrible service. Went for lunch at half 10, left at 12pm after having had no food brought out. Front of house staff blaming the kitchen for being slow and yet it was the front of house staff that were serving every other table and standing around. The other tables (that came in after us) were served before us and their food was shortly followed. The front of house staff did apologise after an hour and 15 minutes of waiting however didn’t even offer anyone any more drinks despite the empty Glasses. Ended up leaving

Terrible service. Booked a table for 10 people at 10:30. Very slow with ordering drinks. Very slow with ordering food as well. Two groups of people came in after us and had their orders taken before we did. Had to go up and ask for someone to take our order at this point, it was 11:15. Front of house did apologise to us but blamed the kitchen for being to slow. Was not kitchens fault as they got orders out for the other tables. Sat there with empty cups, no offers of drinks or someone to take another order of drinks. Eventually cancelled all our orders because we waitied so long. Just a really bad experience.

As a gluten and dairy free diner I often have difficulty finding something suitable that I like on a menu. I had a few options for my main course, very limited for starters and dessert. As we ate at about 5pm the place was practically empty, we were sitting inside, most people sat outside. The quality of food and portion size was excellent. My son had all three courses and thoroughly enjoyed them! Service was good and not intrusive. Would recommend.

Friendly pub with large dog friendly room. Friendly service, lots of staff. Good value food with wide selection. Friday lunchtime fish and chips and a bottle of wine deal looks excellent value!

Had a light lunch of a goat's cheese sandwich. The beer garden was closed for some reason so we sat outside in their front garden.

We parked in the free car park next door and visited the town before returning for lunch here. They had everything we wanted- a specific beer, hot meals and sandwiches. They even serve afternoon tea (pre-order). We were served quickly, both in taking our order and serving it even though they were quite busy. The hot food was hot and delicious. The cold food was delicious too. There was general pop music playing in the background. There is a separate bar area, beer garden and front patio area. This pub benefits from being dog friendly too, they even have dog food and treats to buy. We will certainly visit Lavenham and this pub again.

Recently popped in for a drink during this hot weather, as the front garden is a perfect sun trap! Have been coming here for years, but something seems to have changed since last summer. Service at the bar is prompt and smiley, but venturing out to the garden, the glass table surfaces are grubby and stained. Many of the tables have empty glasses and plates to be collected, and remained there for the duration of my two pints. Maybe I’m expecting too much, but it wasn’t busy, and it doesn’t take much to tidy up. Maybe they’ve decided to just rely on their prominent position in the village, but that would be a shame, as this pub was once truly great! It’s like someone’s stopped taking pride in the place, and seems not bothered about cleanliness. I had intended on eating, but I’m never going to eat at a dirty table. An A-frame sign sits in the garden thanking customers for voting them ‘Pub and Restaurant of the year 2021.’ I truly hope they up their game and manage to get that accolade once more. This pub should be aiming to be a viable alternative to any of the Chestnut Group pubs, but they need to get the basics right.

Had a super Sunday roast with a goats cheese and avocado starter. Warm atmosphere friendly staff as always.

Had an amazing and great value breakfast! The restaurant itself is bright and welcoming and more importantly clean!

Popped in when visiting Lavenham after we had been to the lovely church across the road. Nice décor in lounge and very comfy sofa we were directed to from the bar's friendly staff. Good selection of beers and my pint of DoomBar went down a treat. My wife had an Aspall cider, again no issues. I cannot comment on the food as never had any, unless you count a packet of Nobbys nuts! Some people were eating and food looked ok. There were a few people inside the bar area. I would say locals, if the language was anything to go by, not judging and probably what to expect in any pub bar in the UK. Some people outside, so not busy. Worth a visit if in the area.

Excellent welcome and service. Bacon bap was the best we've had. Hot tea and coffee, and a comfy sofa, great.

Quiet at 10.40 am but breakfast served and presented well. Dull cold day so very much appreciated.

Went for a birthday meal with my husband. He ordered mixed grill. Meat was all cold. It was taken back into kitchen and ‘obviously’ microwaved to heat up as same half eaten sausage still on plate! If we had wanted a microwaved meal would have gone to Tesco and paid a fraction of the price. Very bad experience for a pub of the year!

It's ok. Tables need a clean and a better choice than Doom Bar would be good

Fantastic, COVID friendly, sit in the front garden. Fish & Chips with the Government picking up most of the tab was seriously good food. The tartar sauce was a delight as were the mushy peas. Fish beautifully cooked, although, the "chips" were wedges, skin on and thick, but ... wow very very tasty. No hesitation on a 5 star review, well done.

Spacious dining area nicely decorated. Helpful and friendly staff. Good Sunday roasts if required, other main dishes need bigger selection. Didnt like sticky and grubby edges of tables. At my request they were wiped again with no change to the sticky feeling or grubby marks. Waitress returned after consulting her manager advising there was nothing she could do. Waitresses were very polite and helpful.

Lovely restaurant which wasn't too busy when we arrived. Unfortunately hot chocolate which was gorgeous was served in a chipped mug and scone cream and jam came up as scone butter and jam and when I mentioned it afterwards was dismissed with a well I don't think we have any cream.

Worth the walk up the hill, got a local pub vibe, very friendly, food was excellent and good value and beer was cheaper than my local! Best pub in village IMO.

Restaurant and staff were perfectly pleasant, however our meals were another matter. I choose the mushroom risotto; it was served in a wide-brimmed dish (the centre volume holding less than an average cereal bowl). My meal filled around two-thirds of this indentation and was priced £12 or £12.50; I found it completely lacking in taste. My friend ordered the Thai chicken curry. This was served in the same manner with rice, a five small pieces of chicken, minimal serving of curry sauce and three asparagus spears... costing her £14.50. In fact we were so hungry we walked up the street and bought ourselves a meal deal from the co-op as we were still very hungry! It was such a shame as we had heard only good reviews recently. I would not recommend ..... and it was definitely not good value for your hard earned pennies.

Great food, Great drinks and Great atmosphere every time we visit (frequently!). Staff always go above and behind for my family, kids and dog.

Food was okay, service a bit slow, music genre perhaps not suited to the venue

The burger in here was good, sadly the bun with scorch marks was not warm or hot, but in fact it was very cold, not very nice to go with a hot burger, only 2 other tables with people in the whole venue when we went, staff were friendly, food came out quick, I think the prices are a little high for what it is.

Great and quick service, friendly place and affordable prices, the Sunday Roast sold as an everyday roast. The dish was cold and of an average quality. However the cheesecake was good and well presented, the choice of teas was fantastic. If not of the service then it would be 3* for the quality.

Worst fish and chip I've had. Frozen tilapia fish and it's mushy. Hard heavy very oily batter.

Went for my wife and daughters birthdays. Got a lovely welcome, great food for all 10 of us. I had a roast that was perfect and a crumble for dessert that was simply the best. All this with some brilliantly attentive and trained staff. Recommend to all. Thank you.

After reading good reviews and seeing reasonable prices we thought we would try here for Sunday lunch. .. deep fried roasted potatoes never go down well for us …

Lovely meal out with family, food good plenty of parking. Would return if ever back in area.

Supposed to be the best roast in the area. Beef on the day we went, it was still very pink, too pink,not cooked enough. Couldn't cut it very well, and so chewy, I left mine on side of plate. Had roasts in other pubs which have been far better!!

They dealt with an enormous party of hungry WI ladies, and the food was excellent - and reasonably priced. My main wasn't good, but everyone else was delighted - so they still get my 5 stars!

Went to art evening, staff are excellent have a fantastic night.

Extremely friendly, prompt and professional service. 17 excellent meals served effortlessly and efficiently. This establishment deserves each and every one of 5 stars. Thank you especially to Emma for looking after us and to the chef for the high standard of meals served. Highly recommend.
