The Cock Horse Inn in Babergh

This pub/restaurant is excellent value- and certainly compared with their rivals in the village. The hosts are very friendly, very welcoming with our dog also, the food is good and the portions are generous. Having Sunday lunch there was one of the the best we have eaten out and their deal for 'Curry Night' was fantastic value for money and again, very plentiful portions.. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Went for Sunday lunch. Food was reasonable for the price. Service good as well. My pork was very fatty, but my wife enjoyed her chicken. Vegetables were fine. Unfortunately the seats (the blue cushioned ones) were incredibly uncomfortable and way too low for the tables, resulting in the food being about shoulder height! All those old chairs need replacing.

My other half & me went in for a midweek lunch. Jo had fish & chip which was good & nice crisp batter. I had a steak which was lean, tasty & served with a sauce, reasonably priced & a good selection of drinks.. Ella, The barmaid/ waitress looked after us well & was attentive with a Good sense of humour… We look forward to returning when we are in Lavenham Suffolk again.. Kind regards Col & Jo..

Wow what a place. Food is amazing and the staff are fantastic. My wife struggles to eat meals and the great chef created a dish for my wife which she absolutley loved. Highly recommend and weve booked our nex visit.

Sunday lunch had the beef terrible so tough couldn't eat it couldn't cut it the cabbage with the veg was tough as old boots as well we were also asked after finishing our dinner while finishing our drinks if we could leave our table as soon as possible as they needed the table. I for one will not be returning to the Cock Horse

We has a very positive experience at the Cock Horse today. We had the fish and chips which was very fresh and plentiful. It was served with garden peas and a generous portion of tartar sauce. It was on on offer today at buy one get one free, I had an elderflower cordial and my husband had a Guinness which amounted to £19.55 which we thought was excellent value! The service was also great and the staff looked happy in their work and were very polite and friendly. An added bonus was we were able to sit outside on the lovely outside tables with sun shades. Thank you, we shall be popping in again very soon!

A lovely day in Lavenham spoilt by a bad lunch at The Cock Horse. A ploughman's for two took an hour to arrive. Presented poorly on wooden board. The "Artisan" bread proved to be a sliced loaf straight off a supermarket shelf which wasn't even crusty. All the ingredients taken straight from packets and slapped on the board in an unappetising way. Poor ingredients. Told there would be a delay of 20 minutes as the chef was on his own. This turned into an hour and then informed that they had run out of sausage rolls (part of the so called ploughman's. What a shame and disappointment.

Was looking for evening meal and tried the cock horse inn. The menu wasn't appealing but as it was one of a few open on a Monday evening decided to try it. Got to the pub on a sunny day and immediately was put off when all the outside tables appeared to not have been cleared. Also the smell was just of a greasy fry up which put me off straight away. Decided not to bother and bought a ready meal instead. Get your act together. Clear the tables quickly and refine your menus and you should do better. Take it from someone who has been in the trade for 20 years

We booked a table for 2.4.24 back in February as we knew we would be staying in the area and it would be busy. A few hours before our booking, we received a strange email from the Cock Horse, stating that they were running out of food (on a Tuesday when all the shops were still open) and would have to close the kitchen early at 18:30. Our booking had been for 19:30. We were asked to change our booking to accommodate the kitchen closing early. It quickly transpired that they had not run out of food at all. The chef was predicting a quiet night and wanted to get off early. I would have had little respect for the restaurant if they had been honest. They had accepted the booking and should have honoured it. However, lying to customers is unacceptable and I have no respect whatsoever for this behaviour. We decided we had no desire to be served by a disgruntled chef and had to hastily ring around restaurants to find an available table in the middle of the Easter holiday. I have attached the complete email trail with names redacted. It’s worth knowing that the kitchen might close without notice and, even if you have booked, they may be reluctant to honour the booking. 面 || Cockhorse wrote: Good afternoon, I am emailing from The Cockhorse. Nice setting and ambience. Five of us for Sunday lunch and very impressed with the food. Light bites as starters were great and the roast beef was well prepared and presented. Only slight negative was the speed to serve drinks but this might have been to a last minute staffing issue. Would recommend and would return

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Food was great and very good value. Its the only kid friendly place to eat in lavenham in the evening, nowhere else has a kids menu. This place is just lovely; nice decor, relaxed vibe, such friendly staff and is totally dog friendly too, not just dog tolerant, with blankets and even a dog menu! A couple of clearly marked and very tasty vegan options but would love more please! :) Second time I've been here because its fresh and tasty food, and will be nice to return in warmer weather to enjoy the lovely outdoor area. Recommend the fab cheesecake!!!

We were disappointed with the Sunday roast , with tough roast beef . We asked for no cabbage and got some ! It wasn’t very hot . The waiting staff were attentive though ignored our ‘no cabbage ‘ request . The children’s portions were way too big .

An afternoon tea at this lovely venue. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Tea was nicely presented and very tasty. Sandwiches of brie and cranberry, chicken and pickle or tomato and avocado. Great scones and a delicious selection of mini cakes.

Nicely decorated and friendly staff but I have to be honest the food was shocking!. Definitely not freshly cooked and believe this was all reheated in a microwave and worse than a weatherspoons. That said you pay for what you get in a weatherspoons and is expected at a fraction of the cost so fair play to them . Sorry for the negativity but I wouldn’t recommend this to anybody unless you just wanted a drink😞

First time we have tried this place. Ordered our meal and drinks, and drinks came quickly. Then it went downhill. My partner ordered the burger and chips, and I ordered Ox cheek cottage pies with mash, veg, and side order of sprouts. The meals areived my partners was OK. Mine, however, wasn't. To start with, there was no mash on top of the pie it was a savoury crumble. I asked the waitress where the mash was, and she said she would check for me. I then tried the pie, it was stone cold! Waitress came back, I informed her about it, and she said sorry, took it away, and said it would be remade for me. 5 minutes later, she came back to the table with a bowl of chips, which I neither asked for or wanted, I was then told they had taken the 2 drinks off the bill. My meal did arrive as my partner was finishing his. This time, the pie did have mash on it. There was more mash(as you will see from the photo) than ox cheek fillings. It was warm. When asked if everything was OK, I did tell them I wasn't impressed with the food or wait. Her reply, " Well, we've taken the drinks off the bill," then walked away. We was really hoping this would have been a new place for us to eat, that won't be happening.

First the positives… the staff were all friendly, welcoming and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Frustratingly the quality of the food didn’t match the quality of the service. One fish dish had to go back because one of two cod portions smelt off (the other was ok and therefore useful comparison). On other dishes there was some pretty chewy chicken, dry Yorkshire puddings and bullet-like peas. The desserts were an improvement. All in all it was a shame because we all thought the front of house staff deserved to be better backed up by the food they were serving.

Very disappointing,we had just driven a long way and fancied a drink-three handpumps,but only one functioning-Doom Bar,which was terrible.Didn't risk a second. The decor,obviously undertken a great expense,is totally inappropriate for a period building.

I love visiting the Cockhorse. It’s such a lovely modern meets village pub in that it’s the friendliest welcome and amazing food. Totally recommend for families to come for a hearty dinner or for groups to enjoy the bar.

Stopped in Lavenham for the beautiful houses and came across this lovely pub. The service was first rate, and staff were lovely. The food was excellent and it was a pleasure to sit in a well paid out restaurant. My apologies for walking into the door on my way out!! It brought a laugh. Will call in again on my next visit to beautiful Lavenham.

After reading positive reviews we decided to visit for a family meal. Initial observations was that the place was empty, somewhat surprising for a Friday evening. Sad to report the food was mediocre at best, all straight out of freezer in my opinion. None of it fresh and hugely disappointing. Won’t be returning.

Been wanting to come here for quite a while! Easy to book, however there were dogs in the restaurant…as someone who is allergic I find it a little bit uncomfortable around food! The waitress stroked the dog and I am hoping she washed her hands. Service was a little slow however it was pretty busy! Breakfast was nice, however it was all a little bit dry and cold. Also got my drink wrong, I asked for a mocha and got a latte, but nevertheless it was still lovely. Would like to come back for lunch or dinner :)

Visited this well appointed pub 3 weeks ago and enjoyed a lovely meal with a good pint of Doombar at a comfortable table served by smiling staff. Booked a table for an evening meal two weeks later as we were attending a concert across the road, this sadly is where things were certainly not so good,no Doombar or any other real ales only American IPA on offer, a pub with out a real ale!!, my partner enjoyed her tacos saying how lovely they were whereas I was served the smallest extra large haddock ever at a cost of £18, not a nice fillet but 2 small squares, served with skinny (frozen) skin on fries and not chips as stated on the menu, not even a wedge of lemon, after questioning the waitress I was getting no where, after we finished the plates were collected and the waitress asked if everything ok, again I replied no but again no satisfying response from her, I asked for the bill and told her that I would not be leaving a tip as I believe a tip is to say thank you for a lovely meal, the waitress was even more sullen when she returned with the change plonking it down and walking of without another word, one tip or maybe two I would leave to the owner is to have staff that would try to resolve issues rather than shrug there shoulders and walk off, second tip is when Fisherman's Friends are playing again opposite is to ask them to bring a few decent size fillets of haddock with them for sale at this pub, shame as we live so close and thought we had found another place we could enjoy a meal at locally.
