Popped in to see a mate...looked and seemed alright to me.

Wooden pub with lots of space :)

Needs a good clean. Beer flat and poured out of sight.

Very reasonably priced and great food and staff

Plenty of seating area's, hot food available, check if booking needed.

So disappointed in the condition of the ales. Had 2 different beers and both were lifeless, no head and completely uninspiring. Such a shame, as the pub was warm and welcoming and a good atmosphere

A comfy traditional pub. The drinks were good and so was the service. I can't comment on the food because I didn't order any.

My family and I love this pub. I genuinely think this is one of the best ones in the city. The bar staff are lovely and the atmosphere is brilliant. I haven’t had any of food yet but it is very reasonably priced and does look scrumptious from what I have seen. I’m sure I’ll be back in again before I know it.

Lovely cosy pub, typical man’s pub, meaning lots of locals (men) use it, but had a warm welcome from barman . We sat in the corner and played a few card games while the locals watched the tv.

The food was nice but limited choice for vegetarian food 😋

Lack of atmosphere and lack of choice of cider. For a real ale pub. Pity a more positive approach to real ciders.. or anything apart from aspall... Norfolk has some amazing ciders..... Use them..... almost empty on a Saturday late afternoon..

Great place, nice staff , excellent beer.

Will not ever set foot in here again. The last review I gave was 5 stars, but now it has gone downhill in a massive way. No dogs allowed. Why? I've always been in with my well-behaved dog and no complaints. You would not have known he was with me as he is so quiet and everyone who sees him admires him. What has gone on with this pub? Such a shame.

Great pub, more traditional feel to it, prices are ok, friendly staff, the place can be a bit quiet at times but good if you want a chat over a pint. Not quite as busy as pre pandemic days but one of the only few decent pubs left in the city.

Claimed to be super dog friendly and wasn't. Went in the door and were met with 'no dogs in the bar' exposing the myth as described on their website. To be fair to them, the staff were pleasant about it and were 'only following orders', but we all know where that can lead... They had a decent selection of ales, but when they aren't well kept, you might as well drink Heineken. I'd have walked out if a friend who got there first hadn't just bought one of their dodgy pints. We were shepherded to a characterless barn area where the only people in were football fans. We left pretty sharpish and found a much better reception and beer (Batemans) round the corner at the Champion. This is a pub I will not be returning to - there are many far better boozers in Norwich, some very close by.

Love this pub. Great beer and tasty food all at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. Staff are always friendly and it's one of the best pubs in Norwich.

Loved the whole atmosphere and food superb and landlord too.

Love the place. Original old bar with all the features. Roaring fireplace when it cold. Great selection of beers/ales on tap. Food was superb at the time, not sure kitchen is still functional. No Sunday roasts.

Apologiues for originaly posting wrong review went to loads of places in Norfolk over two weeks. Was stopping in local hotel. Visited twice the same day 3 people the first time .First quick pint was OK. Later that evening visited with 3 friends the barman didn't recognise any of us the pub was v quite , The Barman was Stocious ,taking each pint order one by one and aggressively telling each of us to stand aside. After several attempts went to get order from cellar a couple of step down evey time he went to cellar he fell on steps. On return with drinks they were being spilt .Two beers were compleatly flat ,the 3rd was cloudy, my friend didn't drink it and we were reluctant to complain. The place also smellt not sure it was drainage or off beer. There were a couple of other guys visiting who couldn't stop laughing about the situation lucky for them they were drinking larger as were the couple of locals at bar. I hope this was a one off everyone has bad days but in my 65 years I've never seen anything like this.If its not a one off please get some help. Lovely old building inside which is why we popped back in hope of a good pint.

Good, honest, friendly boozer with generous array of ales, tapped from the barrel in tip-top condition. The stones throw from the city centre makes it a definite for those wishing to escape its more pretentious and pricey neighbouring competitors.

Really original olde world pub, good choice of food prices are excellent. Good place to meet up with friends.

A really great city pub. We went for lunch on a Wednesday. The pub was nice and busy, and warm on a cold day. The menu here is very reasonably priced, and the food is excellent - I wished that I'd had the ham, egg and chips which looked delicious. Great selection of well kept ale and friendly staff who checked that the food was ok and said goodbye as we left. We'll certainly go back. Well done.

Popped in here whilst on weekend break and enjoyed a cider one evening, the staff where friendly aswell as the locals, I wouldn't hesitate in coming back. P,s a nice selection of real ales are on offer aswell.

Considering it was a Saturday night, there was only about 4 people in the whole pub... not an issue but the bar man made us wait and then it was such an effort which is weird considering he wasn't rushed of his feet!

Cracking pub, really friendly staff, we were staying at a hotel 5 minutes down the road so walked up for a couple of drinks on the Friday evening, Great atmosphere and even though we had never stepped foot in the place before, we were made to feel very welcome by the bar staff and other customers, drinks are inexpensive compared to other establishments in the area.

Couldn't fault it. Friendly, psychic, staff. Reasonable prices for the drinks in the city centre, very reasonable for ales. Nice, cosy ambience and clean, if functional, toilets.

So, great old building with depths of character and a classic pub feel. Boasting up to 10 ales and 5 on during the week, however, an extremely generic range which you can find nearly anywhere else. Woodforde's staple range, Adnam's staple range and the horrendous Greene King (much like all GK because cancer company) Abbot Ale. Doesn't serve food weekday evenings despite their website still stating weekdays lunch AND dinner. Was told only Friday evenings since covid. Lastly, not what I would consider dog friendly. We were told we had to take "the dog" (spoken in that manner) to the courtyard. The courtyard is converted into a characterless, cold feeling without atmosphere sports bar. Not very welcoming at all. Now, why we were told we had to sit there instead of the main bar with our dog? No idea. 2 stars because the main pub is still old and has tons of character.

Great pub in Norwich City centre

Love this pub, we chanced upon it whilst away on work and popped in for a couple of pints before our evening meal. We sat near the fire which was very warm indeed. The whole place was pretty relaxed and old fashioned just like pubs should be. The beer was exceptionally well kept, hence we had to pints!

Just out of the city centre, cheap and tasty food and a good selection of drinks at very reasonable prices.

Weren't in there long but great atmosphere and love the look of it. A proper British pub in my eyes.

Very pleasant Aged Building with much history. Large outside seating area..will return in Spring/Summer. Sadly no food available, but Very Acceptable Takeaway next-door.

Recommend by many Locals. Found it on my last day in Norwich. Friendly, great choices of Ales .Pleasant outside seating area. A must for Sports Fans .Menu looks interesting, will return.

Cosy city pub with good range of beers

I was first in the pub with my dad in the 80's so I've always loved the place.

Amazingly I don't think I had ever been in before until Tuesday 23rd November. Sat and had a diet cola and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps, apparently the only sort available at the time.

Enjoyed the visit, atmosphere drink and very good for a city pub

I’ve Been in many times but with the new rules my friend came with me, we had to sit down so we decided to sit by the bar and sat by a lovely chap called Keith. Must have been six people including us and the bartender and we all had a great few hours, as we left and we were waiting outside for our taxi the manager came out and thanked for our company and asked to come back very soon. That made us feel so welcome Coachmakers we will be back with love
